I’m still playing Breath of the Wild and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I’ve been playing nothing else for getting on for two months now, and really can’t see myself giving either game a rest anytime soon.
I’m also thinking of picking up NEO: The World Ends With You over the weekend as it’s currently half price on the eShop. I adored the demo, so why not, right? Or should I stump up an extra £25 and pick up Xenoblade Chronicles 3 instead? It looks gorgeous… but with very complicated combat. I really can’t make my mind up. NEO or Xeno?
Much like the past month or so, I’m playing two games. Breath of the Wild and Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The former, I’m replaying for the first time since launch, the latter with me being unfashionably late to the party. Well, to the series actually, as it’s my first AC game. Both, in my opinion, are utterly exceptional.
@nimnio Well, I had Persona 4 Golden on Vita back in 2012 and the game now has a very special place in my heart. Plus I just really want to play it again in HD.
My playtime is about three hours per day at the moment. Yep, I’ve put in over 40 hours in the last two weeks… but that’s purely because I’m unfashionably late to the party and only just started the game. Like a lemon, I’d just let New Horizons sit in my backlog for the past 18 months, but I’m doing my absolute best to make up for so much lost time.
This is my first Animal Crossing game and I’ve fallen head over heels for the island life. Man, this is one very special game!
I have P5R downloaded on my PS5, but haven’t yet played it as I’m waiting with interest to see how the game looks and runs on Switch before committing to a 100 hour playthrough. Though, if I’m honest, Persona 4 Golden is the game I’m really waiting for!
I’ve said this before, but I wasn’t exactly head over heels for Breath of the Wild back at launch. But I’ve been playing it again for the past several weeks and this time around, however, I’m having a blast and absolutely adore the game. I’m two Devine Beasts down with two more to go, but I really am taking my sweet time exploring Hyrule.
I’m also playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the first time. I started it a couple weeks back and I’m currently about 30 hours in. I just can’t put the game down. Well, except for Zelda of course.
Between Zelda, Animal Crossing and my recent holiday overseas, my PS5 hasn’t had a look in for over two months now. And I’m back in love with my Switch. Crazy what a holiday and a portable console can do for your gaming enjoyment.
The Wind Waker is the game I’ve wanted on Switch for some years now. It’s possibly my favourite game in the series. If Twilight Princess is bundled in, then that’s just a bonus.
@RetroxNL @Radbot42 Whether or not it resembles this particular title in any way, Ghost Trick: Phantom Detective is certainly a game I really wish was available on Switch!
@Rpg-lover My sincere condolences my friend. I know how that feels and all I can say is time will make things easier for you. I lost both my parents within six weeks of one another back in 1999. Mum and dad were only 47 and 51. I still miss them every day, but like I say, it does get easier. Stay strong, and I’m here if you want to talk.
Having only started it just over a week ago, I’m utterly enamoured with Animal Crossing: New Horizons, so that’s what I’ll continue to play over the weekend. In fact, I’ve put a few hours into it today already. Such a relaxing game!
Now, how to get the recipes for a ladder and slingshot?! Can’t be that much farther before I get them.
Like the last few weeks, that’s a nice mix of games/platforms. Nice to see continued PS5 representation, too. What I’d love to see at the top of the charts though is a Super Mario Odyssey 2. Come on Nintendo!
I actually started Animal Crossing: New Horizons this week. Despite not thinking it was my type of game, I still went ahead and bought it shortly after release, but just never got around to giving it a try. I thought I’d finally give it a crack earlier this week and, to my surprise, I’ve kinda fallen in love with it! I intend on playing a LOT more of AC over the course of this weekend.
I’m also still playing The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which I’m enjoying way more than the first time around back at launch. With these two Nintendo Switch stalwarts, I’ll have my hands full for this and many more weekends to come. And I couldn’t be happier.
For me, after Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Virtua Racing (Sega Ages), Horizon Chase Turbo is the third best racer on Switch. Heck, I even have it on PS4 and iOS, too, but despite the systems lack of analogue triggers, I play it most on Switch. Great game.
I’m now 80 hours into my first playthrough of Breath of the Wild since, I must admit, giving up about halfway through back at launch. Unlike back then, this time around, I’m absolutely in love with the game.
I think back in 2017, it was just too much of a departure from the tried and trusted Zelda formula for my tastes, and as much as I tried, I couldn’t get over the absence of proper dungeons and items. But with five years to get used to the new direction for the beloved series, I’m having a blast and struggling to put the game down.
In between longer Zelda sessions, I’m also finishing off Kirby and the Forgotten Land, which has been a lot of fun. I should have that wrapped up before the weekend is over. After mostly playing PS5 for the past twelve months, I’m back into my Switch in a big way. Both in handheld mode and on the TV.
Nice to still see a good mix from my two favourite consoles, particularly my game of the year so far, Gran Turismo 7, back in the top ten. Shame to see XC3 drop down to tenth though.
Sounds good. Crypt of the NecroDancer is one of my favourite indies. I started playing it on Vita then put in another 60 hours on Switch. Funnily enough, despite owning Cadence of Hyrule since launch, I’ve still not started it. Perhaps I should finally get around to sorting that?
@Ulysses Haha, reasonable question, my dude. Metroid Dread was a gift from my wife, along with the OLED Switch, for my last birthday! Well, she gave me a piece of paper with the pre-orders on it as my birthday was three months before their release! She’s a wonderful and super supportive partner who I’ve utterly adored for nearly thirty years now. Man, time really does fly!
@GuyProsciutto Thanks for the concern, but I have every single game (well, except the ones I didn’t end up caring for at all) downloaded onto a bunch of SD cards. My favourite games are on my main 500GB card that stays in my current Switch.
@Not_Soos I like your passion, man, and I’m happy to read any long posts that come from such a place of care and thoughtful consideration. Good for you.
And go for your dreams. Chase them, even. No one else will chase them for you, that’s for sure. You’d have at least one subscriber right here, my friend. Take care my dude!
I plan on picking XC3 up when I return from my holiday next week. I’ll probably download it from the eShop though as, except for Metroid Dread, all 800+ of my Switch games are digital.
I’m now into the final few days of my holiday in Mauritius (first time away in fourteen long years) and, same as last weekend, I’m still playing a level or two of the fabulous Kirby and the Forgotten Land every day. Seriously, the game just gets better and better.
I’m also around 40 hours into my first playthrough of Breath of the Wild since way back at launch. I think I’d go as far as saying that I’m enjoying it even more this time around. Back in 2017, I remember feeling a little bummed about the lack of true dungeons and series-staple items, but I’ve long since accepted their omissions and, as a result, I’m having more fun this time around.
I was planning on playing Dragon Quest XI S: Echoes of an Elusive Age while I’m away, but I’m enjoying Kirby and Zelda so much that I haven’t gotten around to it. Maybe I’ll save it for the 12 hour flight home?
Have an amazing weekend, everyone. Enjoy your families and every game that you get to play! ♥️
I’m continuing with my fresh playthrough of Breath of the Wild and I’m also on the third world in the incredibly charming Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Both play wonderfully in handheld mode while I’m on a beach in Mauritius – my first holiday since 2008.
I’ve also just picked up Pocky & Rocky Reshrined and Neon White, which I’m excited to start later today. Can’t wait!
Having not finished it the first time around back in 2017, I started a brand new playthrough of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild last week. I’m currently 35 hours in and enjoying it even more the second time around, so that’s what I’ll be concentrating on this weekend.
Additionally, despite owning it since it launched on Switch, I’ve never actually played Bayonetta 2. So what with the announcement of an October release for the third instalment in the beloved series, I plan on finally getting around to playing it. Probably concurrently with BOTW while I’m away on my hols!
Pretty rare for me, but I haven’t grabbed any of these yet. Though I did play Shredder’s Revenge on Game Pass and, sadly, it didn’t really grab me, but I will give it another try in the future. Neon White, ElecHead, Little Noah and the Portal Collection, meanwhile, are all on my wishlist.

On PS5 meanwhile, I’m also playing the fabulous Returnal, which is another ludicrously fun game to play.
I had my second Covid vaccination yesterday and I’m feeling pretty rough, but it will not deter me from tackling Cuphead’s exquisite Delicious Last Course. Speaking of DLC, I’m also back into the fabulous Dead Cells in a pretty big way. The recent update really helps progression.
With my wife at work today, I’m also watching the last two Stranger Things (Season Four) episodes. With all the ramped up horror elements, it’s by far my favourite season yet.
I tell you what I’d love to come to Switch, Muramasa Rebirth, Dragon’s Crown Pro and Odin Sphere: Leifthrasir. Much like P4G, they all ran just fine on Vita, so Switch should be no problem. Plus they’re also published by Atlus.
From third-party studio’s, all I want is Persona 4 Golden and the long-rumoured Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster ports. Anything else would pretty much be a bonus.
As well as Drainus, which looks absolutely incredible, ZeroRanger is the shmup I want most on Switch. Will either ever happen? I can only hope so!
[EDIT]: By the way, it’s great games that aren’t (yet) on Switch – like Drainus, ZeroRanger and a certain Persona 4 Golden – that make me really want want a Steam Deck.
As I never got around to actually finishing it the first time around, I’ve started a brand new playthrough of the fabulous SteamWorld Dig 2. And I’m having a blast with it, too! Have absolutely no idea what stopped me the first time around, but it’s so addictive, I can hardly put my Switch down.
I’m also playing God of War (2018) on PS5, which is so amazing, it’s mind blowing. I’m trying to knock a few games off my backlog while I’m waiting for Pocky & Rocky Reshrined to release on the UK eShop.
I haven’t really touched my Switch in a while, but this weekend, I’ll be giving the OLED some attention and I’ll try and get back into Octopath Traveler if I can. Other than that, I never got around to playing the Bowser’s Fury add on from the Switch port of Super Mario 3D World, so my plan is to start that, too.
Oh and if I can find time, I also want to start Return of the Obra Dinn. I’ve had it on my Switch since release, but like so many other games, it went straight into the ever growing backlog. After reading @KateGray’s 'Metroidbrainia' article last night however, it’s motivated me to jump in and play it. Oh and I completely agree with Kate that Her Story should absolutely be on Switch. Such a great game.
Sounds like SteamWorld Heist 2 is in development, with a helping of lovely caramel, but I’d love to see a proper SteamWorld Dig 3, too. I’ve played through the first one multiple times, usually in a single sitting each time, and the second game was even better in pretty much every department. Bring on the inevitable third.
