I’ve not really touched my Switch in a while, but I’ve been aching to finally start a big game on the handheld. Maybe something like Dragon Quest XI S or Astral Chain, perhaps? Two games I’ve owned for absolutely ages, but still not yet got around to playing. I did manage to start the excellent Octopath Traveler several weeks back, but despite having a blast with it, I only got as far as the opening couple of hours before getting distracted by Gran Turismo 7 on PS5. Either way, I’ll be playing one of them this weekend, but which one? 🤔
@zbinks @Specter_of-the_OLED Oh I couldn’t agree more. I didn’t mean it’s a hardware issue where the Switch isn’t powerful enough to run the game properly. I meant that it runs well on PlayStation, so the performance issues are simply isolated to this platform. Clearly, it is 100% down to optimising the programming to run properly, and not down to the game being too much for Switch to handle. Hope that clears up what I was trying to say.
@Hck @tyranny_life Push Square rated the PS4 version 7/10 when they reviewed it via backwards compatibility on PS5. They didn’t mention any performance issues, so I’m guessing yes, it looks like it may well be hardware related.
@Specter_of-the_OLED We desperately need Muramasa on Switch. Imagine how gorgeous it would look on the OLED model. I miss my Vita for that game more than any other… well except for Persona 4 Golden maybe!
On Switch, it’ll be my regular Saturday afternoon session of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the kids, while over on PS5, I’ll be playing my Game of the Year (so far) Gran Turismo 7 and The Empire Strikes Back episode of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga.
Have an amazing weekend, everyone. And happy gaming!
I’ll be playing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with the kids later today. We’re really enjoying the booster pass courses in particular. If I manage to get the TV to myself at some point, I’ll no doubt be booting up Gran Turismo 7 on PS5. Two very different, but equally amazing, racers!
I’ve been playing Tunic on Series S since it released last week, and can confirm that it is indeed an excellent game. It’s pretty tough, but my gosh is it beautiful and does it play well. Here’s hoping Tunic makes its way to Switch and PS5 when the exclusivity deal ends with Microsoft.
@Damo Would love to see a review for this one. The game is utterly gorgeous in my opinion, and while I can’t buy every game I like the look of, a review could certainly push me over the edge and hit the 'buy' button.
Not at all surprised. I love my PS5, but at the equivalent stage of its release, I equally loved my Wii U. It was a fantastic machine and it had something PS5 will never have; Wind Waker. But will the Switch ever get it? I surely hope so!
Absolutely disgusting. How this could get onto the App Store in the first place is beyond me, but the fact that someone would rip off any game to such a like-for-like degree is appalling to say the least.
As someone who’s never got into Pokémon, and only ever played just one game in the series (Black/White), I have to say that Arceus sounds pretty cool to me!
While my wife and daughter are in bed with Covid, I’ll be continuing my playthrough of Death’s Door on Switch. On PS5 and Xbox respectively, I’m 6 hours into Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy and about halfway through Ori and the Will of the Wisps. That’s three top drawer games, so happy times! Well, for me, not my family, unfortunately.
After more than 200 hours of playing, dying and repeating, I’ve kinda dropped off of Dead Cells for the time being, but I’m still going to buy this latest DLC to keep my digital copy of the game 'complete' and support the fantastic development team in the process. I do, however, intend to swing back round to Dead Cells at some point in the future, but man, that backlog!
Dead Cells (91 hours) Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (69) Link’s Awakening (44)
All older titles, but I still played 43 new games this year. I spent 74% of my gaming time in docked mode, which would have been even higher if it wasn’t for that fantastic screen on the new OLED model.
Great little game, this. The only thing that bothers me, of all things, is the home screen icon. There’s a weird line across the bottom making it look like it wasn’t framed correctly.
@GhostGeneration I also bemoaned the lack of a map in the first couple hours, but the levels are so intimate and well designed, I really didn’t need one in the end. I usually have a terrible sense of direction, so, for me, that’s really saying something.
Death’s Door is not only my indie game of the month, but also my overall Game of the Year, just edging out Metroid Dread. It really is that good. In fact, it’s the best Switch game I’ve played since the Link’s Awakening remake.
I’m still enjoying the fabulous Metroid Dread. I just don’t want it to end. Other than that, after finishing the PS5 version yesterday, I’m now playing through Death’s Door again on Switch. Yes, it really is that good!
@Medic_Alert Agreed, Death’s Door is my game of the year, too. I’ve been playing it on PS5 for the past week and it’s an absolute joy from start to finish. I don’t give many 10/10 scores, but this is definitely one of them.
I love it so much, in fact, that I’m going to double dip and buy in on Switch, too. No doubt it’ll look fabulous on the OLED model.
Wait, what? Dodonpachi Resurrection is out next week? Oh man, I can’t wait to pick that up. Having one of my favourite ever shmups on the OLED is a marvellous prospect.
I didn’t get to finish off what is fast looking like my game of the year, Metroid Dread, last weekend. So that’ll be my first port of call whenever I get the chance. Over on PS5 meanwhile, I’m knee deep in the fabulous Ghost of Tsushima: Directors Cut. I guess I’m about halfway through both games.
Well, at least they’ve finally gone on record, I suppose. While I’m just as angry as anyone else, I certainly would not condone fans being vile or harassing the Grove Street devs – no matter how much they probably deserve it.
Not that I mind in the slightest, I noticed that she stopped following me as soon as I stopped covering PS Vita stuff over on Twitter. She must have moved on to Switch as well now though.
We spoke a few times and I can also attest to the fact that she’s a nice lady. I’m just happy that our wonderful hobby is shared by such a diverse age group. I’m knocking on the door of the big FIVE-O myself now and I certainly won’t be giving up my favourite pastime any time soon!
This has nothing to do with the game, but my youngest daughter is a huge BTS fan. Through their music, they teach kids about self love and self worth, which helped her through years of bullying, low self-esteem and, ultimately, depression. It nearly broke me to see her in tears every day after school, but thankfully, she’s through the worst of it now, and that makes me a huge fan of the band, too.
The two games I most want to see pick something up on the night are Metroid Dread and Returnal. Both games are utterly brilliant and genuinely special.
Two fabulous games for me this weekend. On Switch, I’ll be finishing off Metroid Dread. I’ve had it for a couple weeks now, but I’m having such a fun time with it that I really don’t want it to end. Over on PS5, I’m still making my way through Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut. Such a beautiful game.
Was gonna buy digital on Switch and physical on PS5. Now I see this is a 4/10 rush job and PS5 isn’t even getting a physical release. Well, at least I’ve saved £105. Guess I’ll go back to GTAV via backwards compatibility.
This is fabulous fun on Apple Arcade, but the eShop screenshots looks pretty jaggy on my Switch OLED. Hope it still looks the part as presentation is a big part of Super Impossible Road.
The overworked and harassed staff in these teams flat out deserve more time to make these games to their full potential. These delays therefore can only be considered a good thing.
Shame to see Metroid Dread drop out of the top ten so soon. Really hoping it can do the numbers necessary for Nintendo to green light more top drawer entries in the franchise like Dread.
I have Dusk downloaded on my OLED, but Metroid Dread has stopped me from starting it. I knew Dusk was good, but this review cements its quality and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in. Maybe as soon as this weekend.
My wife bought me Metroid Dread this week, so that’s what I’m playing at every opportunity this weekend. It’s absolutely amazing, so that’s all I’ll be playing. Nothing else!
Diablo III Eternal Collection on Switch was my first foray into the dungeon crawling world of Diablo, and I really enjoyed it. I may well pick D2 Resurrected up too at some point, but I’ll more than likely wait for a sale first.
