Re: Review: Fashion Dreamer - Some Decent Dress-Up, But Lacks Style Savvy's Depth

MagicEmperor

Style Savvy: Trendsetters is, honestly, one of my top favorite 3DS games, regarding enjoyment and nostalgia. I enjoyed the Style Savvy games very much, and I guess I wanted Fashion Dreamer to be like that series, but in HD! And (if desired) on the TV! Based on this review and others, no, this isn't what I'm looking for. Ah, well! Maybe if the price goes down drastically.

Re: Site News: Nintendo Life Turns 18 Today

MagicEmperor

Happy 18th Birthday, NintendoLife! 🎂 I can date when I first learned about this site (via a podcast). It was when The Calling on the Wii was coming out. I’ve followed this site since, which happens to be one of my primary sources for Nintendo news!

Re: Talking Point: What's The Most Difficult Mainline Mario Game?

MagicEmperor

If one is very lousy at typing on the keyboard, Mario Teaches Typing is brutal!

In seriousness, I’ll also chime in on Lost Levels and Sunshine. 3D World’s Champion Road was a vicious beast that I eventually tamed with all characters (Yikes!), and a casual gamer friend of mine is having a devil of a time with Galaxy 2.

Re: Memory Pak: Making Contact With The "Ungoogleable" Game I Couldn't Quite Remember

MagicEmperor

Let's see. In the 1990s, I played an arcade game that had a top-down perspective of the violent action, and, sometimes, the playable character would get launched upward toward the camera, with a gaping hole in his abdomen. For some bizarre reason, I never figured out the name of that game, even with Google searches. Or I simply didn't dig deep enough. Ah, well!

For the Sega Genesis, there was a cartoony strategy game where you played as a (again, cartoony) general, and there were museum-esque busts of said generals eventually. I think.

One more, also for the Genesis! A possibly isometric-perspective CIA/some kind of special forces agent game that had a level involving a limousine that you had to protect.

Yeah, I got a few, heh. To give an example of a game that used to be "ungoogable" to me yet I eventually figured it out: Mixed-Up Mother Goose, a computer game.

Re: First 4 Figures Unveils 'The Great Mighty Poo' From Conker's Bad Fur Day

MagicEmperor

Many years ago, I was part of a selfmade RPG with a group of friends. To make a long story short, at one time, Sailor Mars battled with the Great Mighty Poo. Ah, those were the days!

Back on topic. If this was within my budget, I’d have strongly considered it. I was a big Conker fan back then. Alas, I’ll save the promotional images and leave it at that!

Re: Mario Movie Crosses $1 Billion Mark At The Global Box Office This Weekend

MagicEmperor

Princess Peach has always been my favorite Nintendo character, from kindergarten to now. This movie doesn't quite nail into the "games Peach" to "badass Movie Peach" transition as well as I think it should've. Before you aim your Bullet Bills at me, I liked her Movie version! I just... well...

Personally, if I could've added one short scene to make that transition go smoother, to my taste, it'd go like this: We first meet Princess Peach not in the throne room, but in the kitchen. She's baking a cake, or other treats, maybe softly humming to herself chirpily, in a manner more aligned to the original games. Then--long story short--she has to clonk a rascal/bandit/antagonistic character on the head with a rolling pin, or even a straight-up punch, no assistance needed. And from then on, she's revealed to be far more athletic and battle-ready than how we usually know her.

A Toad: "Princess! We just got word that Bowser (blah blah)!"

Peach: [her face goes from 'cute' to 'sternly serious, ready for action'] "Call everyone for briefing, at once! I'll be there."

Something like that, if I may be selfish and entitled, heh! Because, for me, personally, the range between "original games" to "borderline out of character" is cranked up way too hard for her. I'd like to have had some form of transition.

But, hey! No matter! I still enjoy the movie, having watched it twice, and I'm definitely getting the eventual Blu-Ray. 7/10!

Re: Talking Point: Which Nintendo Franchise Should Illumination Tackle Next?

MagicEmperor

@ComfyAko Hotel Dusk! Your comment is the first to make me slam my desk and point to your suggestion with a finger snap. "Yeah!" I'd love to slip into an alternate dimension where Hotel Dusk has already been adapted into a solid movie!

Um... I'd like to see a Luigi's Mansion, but as has already been said, I'd dig a Punch-Out!! or StarTropics movie.

Re: Mario Movie Already Set To Be The Highest-Grossing Video Game Film Ever

MagicEmperor

Three of my dear friends and I promised each other two, three years ago that we'd wait until we could get together to watch the then-announced Mario Bros. Movie. Long story short, we waited for the movie to be released, and then waited some days more, just so all of us could check it out. I knew that, regardless of how I felt about the movie (7/10), it would become a favorite "event movie" experience for me, forever!

Re: Video: Is 3DS StreetPass Dead?

MagicEmperor

I posted this in the video's comment section, but I'll reiterate it here. I have so many fond memories of getting hits in StreetPass, especially from two people in my rural town. Strangers to me, I didn’t know ‘em, but they were StreetPass buddies. For months, I’d get flashes of green on my 3DS and see their Miis at my gate. Over a year later, my family went to Disneyland (which is far away from my rural neck of the woods), and I got two StreetPass alerts. I looked, and at the gate… those pair of StreetPass buddies from home! At first, I figured I got their Miis from before the trip and forgot to go to the Plaza to greet my collected Miis. But, no! The next time I got their passes in Disneyland, hours later, they wrote similar messages: "WHAT THE?" “RU IN DISNEYLAND” It was surprising but also very cool. It's a small world after all, har-har.

When I finally did meet them in person, back home and 'after the fact', we shook hands and pretty much laid a great StreetPass memory to rest, only to begin a new one in real life. All thanks to StreetPass!

My favorite StreetPass memory outside of those two people? Playing Mii Force's Cerulean Tower immediately after a trivia tournament, in a hotel lobby. That stuck out to me.

Re: Metroid Prime Engineer "Let Down" By Exclusion Of Original Credits In Remaster

MagicEmperor

I read about half these comments then gave up and scrolled to here, haha! Guess that says something about me. Well, personally, I think the original staff should still he credited, but a generalized one-liner’s better than nothing. Still, I’m really enjoying this Remaster, so thanks to everyone, past and present.

I do like to stick it out with credits in games and movies, mostly because I have a strange feeling of completion.

Re: Review: Smurfs Kart - Not As Smurf As Smurf, But Surprisingly Smurf

MagicEmperor

I was really into The Smurfs when I was a tyke (one of my childhood gifts is a production cel of Smurfette talking to another Smurf—still have it), so I’m glad to hear that some new Smurfs game isn’t so smurfed. I’ll also keep an eye out for a discount!
This smurfy coincidence might also explain why I’ve been humming the music from the GameBoy Smurfs games recently…

Re: Super Mario Bros. Movie Composer Gives Fans Sneak Peek At 'Mario Suite Part 3'

MagicEmperor

Unless I’m mistaken, the only score of Mr. Tyler‘s I’ve crossed paths with is the Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers Movie. I distinctly remember thinking the music was the best thing about that flick, so I’m totally on board with this project! The recent teaser completely turned around my previously grumpy-grump-negative mindset, and I couldn’t be happier! 😄

Edit: Oh, I’m totally mistaken. I’m definitely familiar with other movies he’s scored. Guess that one was just fresh on my mind. Either way, cool!

Re: Rumour: Possible First Look At Mario's Movie Face Appears Online

MagicEmperor

Considering I hated the idea of this movie when it was first announced to be from Illumination (and this was well before the voice actors' reveal), the fact that I looked at this and thought, "Huh, a lot better than I feared!" is a very, very good feeling. Whew! Well, it's just me, of course. And speaking of "it's just me," I thought this looked like a mish-mash of Nintendo's Mario and Captain Lou Albano's Mario from "The Super Show." So, I'll Do the Mario for the remainder of the day.
