Donkey Kong be looking retro

I didn't like DK's design at first but it's growing on me a little bit

I kinda hate DK’s design. Wish they would have used the returns and tropical freeze design.

Like with Mario and Peach, DK just looks...weird. lol

Look! I spotted Diddy, Dixie and …. is that Swanky?

Cranky, Diddy, Dixie, and Swanky (in his DKC3 attire) appear on the bottom right of the DK poster.

By the looks of it, the place where DK and Mario fight seems to be a mix of the environments of the original arcade Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Country Returns.

Peach is looking like a Disney princess lol. I like it.

I really don't like their eyes. Besides Peach, I can mostly put up with the character designs, but the eyes are just weird.

I'm pretty sure Funky Kong was in the new trailer in the Rainbow Road scene.

An unusual pose for Mario and Peach but ok, nothing that makes it bad. I think DK's head looks smaller than what it looks like in the trailer.

Okay, those look way better. Bravo. They'll do. Not something I'd ever want to put up on my wall, or even near my wall, but ...they'll do.

The editing for these posters look pretty darn bad in my opinion...

Peach seems rather... sinister... in this one.

I like Luigi's and toads the best. DKs stands firmly at second and the others all tie for third.

Yeah, I'm good. Easy pass.

I feel like each of these character poster represent a certain genre in the movie categories:

Mario = Action
Luigi = Horror
Peach = Drama
Toad = Adventure
Donkey Kong = Comedy
Bowser = Sci-Fi

I don't know why they didn't just use the character art style from the games.

@the_weakest_link I betcha not everything seen in the trailer will be in the actual movie. Just like every other movie most of the time a lot of the scenes in movie trailer tend to end up becoming deleted scenes and would be shown via DVD or Blu-ray only.

Why does peach look evil

I like how badass Peach looks

Peach is a big no for me. She looks either too realistic or too cartoony, as if they couldn’t make a choice.

Did anyone really ask for all of this?

I think I know what it is now. Her hair looks like realistic hair with individual strands, but then the haircut itself has a really stylised shape. The same thing happens with the eyes. They’re extremely symmetrical and cartoony, but have creepy details that only belong in real eyes.

@nib0 : Exactly my sentiment. Sure, they could stand to be a little more detailed (e.g. more realistic fur on Donkey Kong, more realistic hair on Peach, and more realistic scales on Bowser), but they appear to have remoulded these characters into the grotesque image of typical 3D/CGI animated Hollywood films, which I never considered to be visually appealing. And then, there's the stunt casting... which is even more irritating because they didn't even bother to drop names on the above posters.

Peach's new look is probably my favorite redesign.

@Sisilly_G Totally agree, those things are off-putting. That said, I'm sure this movie will be massively profitable and a big success.

Toad...I'm not sure what they were going for here, just enjoying the starry sky and fire flowers I guess.
DK looking retro as someone above mentioned, awesome (and yay for Cranky, Diddy, Dixie, and Swanky in the background).
And finally big bad Bowser doing what he does best, looking big and bad.😂

DK looks glorious and back to his cartoony self. Much better for a film I would think.

@Coolmusic That's the same vibe I'm getting from Peach's poster.. sinister. Let's hope this isn't signposting for a big last-third plot twist.

Could just be that Peach shares the same face & eye shape as Megamind.

Edit: Also, the character they've changed the least is Bowser.. yet he's definitely giving out that Jack Black energy.

@Serpenterror I would prefer the character depictions to be visually consistent with their past representations. As others have mentioned here, the visual aesthetic of CGI movie characters isn't as charming as how these characters have appeared in games.

@ModdedInkling Yeah, I definitely like it, too. And after watching her in the trailer, I can definitely get behind it. I've been saying for years that Nintendo has to let the whole "Princess Peach gets captured by Bowser" thing a rest, and it looks like they may do so in the movie, which makes me happy in so many ways.

@calbeau @Eel I wouldn't so much say sinister or evil as sassy and strong-willed. Like this time around, she won't take you-know-what from anyone, not even Bowser. We frankly need that kind of Peach this time around, after her getting kidnapped too many times in the games, the generic, cookie-cutter damsel-in-distress role for her is getting stale.

Man I hope these come out as physical posters. I really want the Luigi and Peach posters for me and a mate of mine.

I want all of these posters! I think my favorite two are the Toad and Luigi ones. The Toad poster is awesome!

These are all fantastic, but the Luigi one is my favorite and one that I would love to have hanging up on my wall

in the Donkey Kong one there are a whole bunch of monkeys and Kongs I think in the background

Everyone else here saying Peach is looking all villainous in the poster, but I'm just looking at it and seeing some craaaazy bedroom eyes.

Like for real, Illumination knows what they're doing with this. LOL

Peach is just weird. Too much Illumination for her character.

Hope there's some Roxette in it. Almost Unreal was one of the few good things about the 1993 movie, and I know for a hard fact that Seth Rogen is a fan.

@nib0 Well you're not playing any of them in the movie so of course they won't be charming yet, either that or just wait for the movie to come out. Mario and crew had been in CGi since the GameCube era, like it or not they aren't going back to polygon or sprites that is unless another Mario Maker happen. Also this movie is the first time they got Mario's plumber costume colors correctly, in past media he usually wore red over blue but in this one he wore blue over red just like in the game. You want them to look like the game versions and you got them.

The posters look promising but why does Peach have an evil smile. Did she became a villain all of a sudden and join Bowser's side. Lol. Anyways, I might watch the film but still not amused by Chris Pratt's Mario.

I love these posters, and the trailers have been a lot of fun so far too. I'm super-stoked for this movie; c'mon, April!
