Re: Best Of 2020: An Ode To The 3DS, Nintendo's Workhorse Console

MagicEmperor

Literally, as I’m typing this right now, I’m looking at a poster on my wall. A poster of “Professor Layton vs. Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.” A quick glance to the right, and I see my current New Nintendo 3DS, resting on its laurels (as in, a large game case of 3DS games). I’ll admit that I have almost entirely shifted my focus to the Switch, but the 3DS is such an important chapter of my hobby.

I can practically see a montage right now: The time when I first got my 3DS; The time when I finished moving into an apartment, and took a break to play Super Mario 3D Land, as I sat on the floor and rested against boxes; That dangerous time when I was hospitalized, and the 3DS was one of my dependable companions before and after my stay; That night when I was invited to a friend’s wedding, and even though it was the best wedding I’ve ever been to yet, and although we all had fun with the celebration, it happened to be the launch night of Pokémon X&Y, and so some of us downloaded either game at 9PM, since we were in the Pacific; The first time I ever fell in love with Professor Layton; And the night when I drove to a Nevada desert, started a bonfire, and danced a rain dance in order to make a new Kyle Hyde/Hotel Dusk/Last Window sequel happen!

The last part didn’t actually happen, at least, physically. I have begged and pleaded for such a game mentally, for years and years. Ah, CiNG. Well, the 3DS has meant an awful lot to me, and I will always be grateful for it. I’m clearly affectionate and sentimental, as you can tell, but it REALLY mattered so much to me, before the Switch got my focus. With all of that having been said, I still occasionally play my 3DS. And the last new game I ever bought for it was WarioWare Gold.

@Ralizah Thanks to you, I’m now obsessively imagining Charles Foster Kane living reclusively on the outskirts of my village! Maybe I should change a neighbor’s catchphrase to “Rosebud”?

As for my answer. For many reasons, I took a lengthy break from the game and missed out on some things, so I couldn’t vote for a couple of these options out of honesty. With all that said, I was surprisingly pleased with Turkey Day. The music got stuck in my head, heh. And I, of course, like Halloween a lot! But also the cherry blossoms... if only I could’ve picked a three-way tie!

@Qphlat27 You may have been unimpressed with the events, but I’m very impressed with your avatar choice! I love Wild Guns!

Re: The Wii U First Launched Eight Years Ago Today

MagicEmperor

The Wii U was the first gaming console where I had to meet a delivery truck driver to pick mine up, in person, due to circumstances. My first Wii U addiction was Donkey Kong’s Crash Course in NintendoLand.

Overall, I loved the Wii U and played some amazing games. I loved Super Mario 3D World, loved Tropical Freeze, and by this point, I have a nostalgic soft spot for a genuinely terrible eShop game, The Letter!

The Wii U did me well, but I confess... the moment the Switch was revealed, and how the Switch handled in my hands, I knew the Wii U was more or less done for, regarding my time and attention.

I love you, Wii U! Warts and all! Yet, as of this writing, my Wii U is not connected to the TV, and is instead safely tucked away in my gaming closet.

@MysteryCupofJoe Oh, it’s very, very slow, haha! As much as I like it, I’ll be the first to say it’s not for everybody. Molasses-like pacing, and it’s repetitive; you find a key on each floor (stage) and ascend, and I think there’s, like, 60 floors. But I really got into it. I liked playing it, but also, Tower of Druaga reminds me of hanging out with my great aunt. I suppose some of my fondness comes from those memories of her. At any rate, happy gaming, yo! 😄

Re: Every Smash Bros. Ultimate Stage Has To Be Reworked For Minecraft Steve's Inclusion

I had an unusual feeling of schadenfreude as I glanced at extremely and over-the-top negative reactions to the reveal. We all have our vices, I admit!

I was never what you’d consider a pro at Minecraft (ah, who am I kiddin’, I’m forever a casual), but I’ve played on and off with others, mainly relatives. I smiled at the reveal, and now I’m truly amazed by how much work is going into this. I commend Sakurai and the whole Smash team!

@ThanosReXXX Deep, nostalgic exhale Ah, I'll never forget the first time I ever watched Princess Mononoke. A local theater screened it, one night only. I live in a rural town, so it wasn't like the biggest cineplex our small community (which boasts a colossal number of... four auditoriums, with wildly varying sizes) fought tooth and nail to screen it. No. Where it was screened was in one of the oldest stage theat*re*s in my state (Mark Twain attended there, it seems), and said theatre is not made to serve as a modern movie auditorium.

Yet, they made it happen. They had Princess Mononoke, they had a film projector, and they assembled a serviceable screen that was charmingly shabby, or shabbily charming. I mean, it practically screamed, "Shucks, fellas, let's put on a show!"

And they did. It was the English dub, but I would watch the original Japanese version the nanosecond I got it on DVD, later. Funnily enough, before I ever watched a single frame of the film, I was thoroughly introduced to it because I got Joe Hisaishi's score music (on CD) beforehand. The music was my introduction. To make a long story short ("Too late!"), I listened to the score repeatedly and thought, "If the story and animation are anywhere near as good as its music, then Princess Mononoke must be gold!"

To summarize, yeah. Yep. I love it. Very much. One of my top favorite films--inside or out of the "animated" category. Most of my closest pals are big fans, too, and we've made silly running gags or inside jokes about the movie. I once imitated the Ape Tribe but made their voices sound like they going door-to-door to sell useless junk.

AHEM Hi, I'm here. Now I will speak of the poster. I'm preaching to the choir; while I don't care for Link's design, I really do like the background.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl #52 - Mega Man 2

The funny thing is, every time I see the North American box art, I immediately think of, not the game, but the children's novella that was adapted from it. I remember reading that in, third grade? Something like that.

Edit: "Worlds of Power."
