Re: Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Imprisonment Has Been Rated For Switch 2

KayFiOS

I really hope Age of Calamity gets a Switch 2 upgrade that enhances the frame rate, because it's still locked to 30 FPS, so it'll be kind of hard to go back to after Age of Imprisonment. Not only that, but after I finish my 100% Master Mode playthrough of Breath of the Wild, I think I might replay AoC, so it would be nice if that game ran smooth like butter by the time I get around to it!

Re: Zelda: BOTW & TOTK Are "Transformative" On Switch 2, Says Digital Foundry

KayFiOS

I figured I'd finally take a crack at 100% completion, and the Zelda Notes app is indispensable! I've tried using a Korok map on IGN, but you still need to figure out where you are in relation to the map on the website, and then you have to mark each Korok seed as acquired as you go along. With Zelda notes, that's a non-issue, since it automatically tracks everything you do, and you can see where you are in the app itself, plus, if you really want to keep your eyes glued to the TV, the voice navigation system is useful for that as well. All the other features are neat, like new achievements, daily bonuses, transferring items to the cloud (which I immediately used to get the Hylian Shield early from my last playthrough, since this is my first playthrough on Master Mode). My favorite inclusion however has to be the voice memories. It's nice to get extra context on top of what you can normally find in memories/dialogue.
Side note, this is the first playthrough I've done where I have actively been preventing blood moons from happening, and it feels pretty good ridding Hyrule of as much evil as I can with the knowledge that nothing ever comes back as long as I enter a shrine or dungeon by midnight!

Re: Around 1 In 3 Switch 2 Owners Bought New Pro Controller Despite High Price Point (US)

KayFiOS

I didn't know that the charge grip also had grip buttons on the back, but I now have a Pro Controller, and it's probably one of the most comfortable controllers Nintendo has ever made. I especially love using the GL button as the down button on the D-pad in Breath of the Wild, since I can hold it and mash B to Whistle Run, and it feels a lot more comfortable than trying to do it without grip buttons.

Re: iFixit Performs A Full Teardown Of Nintendo's "P**s-Poor" Pro Controller

KayFiOS

@AnnoyingFrenzy I had to buy a second Pro Controller because my Splatoon 3 Edition Pro Controller started drifting, so I opened it up and replaced the insides with those from the normal Pro controller, and then adjusted the color settings for the grips in the Switch UI on a computer. I probably took a more convoluted route than was necessary, but I was just that frustrated with my best controller drifting.

Re: Donkey Kong Bananza Developer Has Been Revealed

KayFiOS

"Of course, this might not be the most surprising news for those who have followed the game's marketing up to this point."
Really, it had been rumored well before the Switch 2 reveal that the Odyssey team was working on a Donkey Kong game.

Re: Mario Kart World Has Been Updated To Version 1.1.2, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

KayFiOS

@Kilroy Glad you enjoy them, but people chose random to avoid them, and this change feels like it was made to spite those players, as if to say "How dare you want to play this like a classic Mario Kart game?! You will drive on long straightaways and LIKE IT!"
Maybe instead of simply forcing players to play in the intended way, Nintendo should take note of this and add a classic mode where all races take place on one of the 32 courses, and last for 3 laps each, so it doesn't interfere with the other modes. Just a thought.

Re: Check Out This Extended New Systems Trailer For Everybody's Golf Hotshots

KayFiOS

A few weeks ago, I was watching Kaze Emanuar trying to get the trees in a level's background to look JUST right in a game he's been working on for a long time now. There are probably a few terms you can use to describe this, like obsessive compulsive, anal retentive, or perfectionistic, but I see a degree of passion that you simply can't replicate by using AI-generated assets.

Re: Another Yoshi Soundtrack Joins Nintendo Music, Here's Every Song Included

KayFiOS

Unfortunately, Totaka's song and the Super Happy versions of the level themes are not present in this soundtrack. I'm glad we at least got K.K. Song on this service, but that's now two soundtracks (First Luigi's Mansion, now this) on Nintendo Music that Kazumi Totaka composed where his theme isn't anywhere to be found...
EDIT: Actually, it's three because it also appeared in Mario Kart 8.

Re: The DK Rap Is Back In Donkey Kong Bananza, But Nobody Told Its Composer

KayFiOS

I tried looking for any instance of Nintendo crediting Grant Kirkhope for the DK Rap. I figured if nothing else, he must have been credited in Super Smash Bros. Melee, right? Oddly enough, David Wise gets credited in Smash Bros. Melee for composing the DKC series' music, but Grant Kirkhope doesn't. David Wise's contributions aren't credited in Smash Ultimate, though, only having his compositions credited to Rare Limited. It took Grant Kirkhope composing new Banjo-Kazooie music for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to get his name in the credits.

Re: Poll: So, Have You Used Zelda Notes Yet?

KayFiOS

Maybe when I get my Switch 2 I'll go for a korok hunt, but beyond that, I'm not the biggest fan of the more recent Zelda games, and I don't think this app is going to change that, least of all when it's just another menu that I get to waste time navigating.

Re: Shuhei Yoshida Says Sony Doesn't Really Consider Nintendo As Competition

KayFiOS

Honestly I don't think Sony has any competition in the console market anymore. Xbox struggles to find any kind of foothold in Japanese markets, and Nintendo continues to do their own thing, and let others follow, same as usual. If anything, Nintendo is competing against handheld PC gaming devices more than they are with Sony. The closest thing Sony has to competing with the Switch 2 is the Portal, which can't be used offline. I don't doubt that Sony is probably thinking about entering the handheld space with an actual system that isn't simply cloud-based, but until then, they reign in the console market that is slowly dying as consoles become more expensive, to the point where you may as well just buy a PC.

Re: Final Fantasy Tactics Remaster Controversially Cuts War Of The Lions Content

KayFiOS

This is something all too common when a game gets rereleased in some fashion. The Final Fantasy Pixel Remasters didn't include content from PS/GBA versions of the games, Persona 3 Reload is missing content from Persona 3 Portable, and the Mega Man Legacy Collections seem intent on never reviving content that was exclusive to the Dreamcast or PSP. It's always lame when a game's revisions over the years added content, then a modern release fails to include it.

Re: Opinion: An Ode To The Fallen Arm, Xenoblade Chronicles' Best Map

KayFiOS

One of my favorite moments in the Xenoblade series was climbing up tall walls to some rafters, then following them to the end, all the while thinking "I... remember this..." Once I reached the end, and I discovered the Secret Area, "Distant Fingertip," I found myself overwhelmed and overjoyed, because this happened when I was playing Xenoblade Chronicles 3!

Re: PSA: Got A Switch 2 Pro Controller? This Little Capture Trick Is A Game-Changer

KayFiOS

Pretty useful, although for games like Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, Xenoblade Chronicles X, and Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition, those buttons are probably better off as left and right d-pad inputs for selecting artes/items while using the control stick to move. That's currently what I use the back buttons on the Nitro Deck for. I'm a bit disappointed that there are only two back buttons, compared to the four you would get with the Nitro Deck, or any premium controllers for the Xbox/Playstation.
