@Maxz not only that, but Cloud saves as well. When you backup your save data for a Nintendo Classics app, it backs up the save data for every game in the collection, no exceptions. Considering all of the Pokémon games that are compatible with Home are not compatible with Cloud Saves, I think it's safe to assume that even if Pokémon Home could work with Nintendo Classics, odds are it will never happen.
@Fiskern Yes, but they're being incredibly vague on whether or not it'll eventually support all Pokémon up through Gen 9, and I think transparency matters here, because we haven't had a game that supports all Pokémon since Sword and Shield, and a lot of people, including myself, are hoping that this will be the solution to that problem.
I don't understand why only certain Pokémon can be used with this app. It would make sense if they were talking as if certain legendaries and mythical Pokémon couldn't be rented, such as was the case in Pokémon Stadium 1&2 and Battle Revolution, but they're saying that you can't even transfer these Pokémon over from Pokémon Home, and they aren't being specific about which Pokémon can't be transferred over, and that is bothering me. Why would you make this big battle simulation game with Mega Evolutions, Dyna/Gigantimax forms and Terastalizations, and then draw the line at specific Pokémon? What's even the point then? At the very least, this game should support 85% of Pokémon out the gate, with the other 15% planned to be patched in later, and Pokémon from Winds and Waves to be added after those games are released. This is supposed to be the most lucrative IP in existence, and they can't outdo Pokémon Showdown!, something fans created for free? Be for effing real.
If we're just talking about the design, I would probably pick the original 3DS XL, because I would rather attach a Circle Pad Pro than use that god-awful C-nub. But most games don't use it, and the New 3DS XL gets a small performance boost that makes Xenoblade Chronicles 3D possible, so that model gets my vote.
I have to wait for my Eevee to ship out before I get the points I need to get this set. I'm hoping I'll be able to order it before it's scalped to hell and back (are points-based rewards like this even feasible for scalpers?), but if not, the Crabmeat Lego set is still available at least, and I am a Sonic fan, so that'll be my backup plan. EDIT: I managed to secure my order. LEGO's greed knows no bounds. Unlike Nintendo, where you can redeem your platinum points for physical rewards and just pay shipping, LEGO only lets you redeem your points for a promo code to apply during checkout, meaning you have to buy something else to get your Pokémon Center. Well, seeing how I wasn't getting Crab Meat, I did pick up a set with Knuckles and Silver in cars. I already have Sonic with his race car, so they'll go well together at least.
Super excited to play this with my girlfriend! Just for laughs, I'm try to get a Pokemon Pokémon with perfect IVs, personality type, I'm going to learn the ins and outs of old school competitive Pokémon raising. Maybe I'll even take it a step further and make a whole team!
Absolutely happy to have this one here! This was one of the first two Game Boy games I owned! I really hope Donkey Kong '94 gets added to the service too! The penultimate stage in particular had a really good track!
@RupeeClock That really does seem like a shallow reason to lock this DLC to Switch 2; a throwaway gimmick that could also be done with gyro aim, even if somewhat unintuitively.
I still don't understand why Meetup in Bellabell Park can't be played on Switch 1. I can't remember if it uses the camera or not, but It just seems like a weird thing to lock people out of new story content that the game desperately needed in my opinion, just because they didn't buy a Switch Pro.
I didn't just buy both versions of the game, I also gave my brother and girlfriend eShop cards so they could download their preferred version and we could play together. Yes, I'm part of the problem, but I also think that these games should sell well so that TPC will release more classic games; I would love to see HeartGold and SoulSilver re-released next! I don't agree with the price, but I also know TPC isn't going to lower it anytime soon, but I want to play the game soon, and with my girlfriend.
I'm disappointed that there seemingly aren't any filters... This just looks like a straight ROM drop. Probably doesn't even take much for Pokémon home to read the save data to transfer Pokémon... $20 please.
My endgame team ended up using four Gen 9 Pokémon, then one from Gen 7 and 8. I'll go back and vote for the Gen 7 and 8 reps I had in my party, because I don't have much experience with those Generations otherwise, but for the most recent generation, I have to give it to Ceruledge, or as I called him during my playthrough, Cervantes de Leon (named after the dual sword wielding ghost pirate from Soul Edge/Calibur).
I played the original Legend of Zelda at friend's houses, a little bit at my grandparents' house, but I never found the first dungeon and it would still be a while yet before I owned the game in any capacity.
Similarly, my parents rented Ocarina of Time for me and my brothers to play, but being the little coward I was, I didn't like it. The inside of the Deku Tree and especially the Redeads in the Royal Tomb kept me from playing any further. I didn't play any horror games growing up, this was the most terrified I've ever been in a game.
Fast forward to 2002, I got Wind Waker for Christmas, while my older brother got Metroid Prime. The first Zelda game I owned, and even though the Redeads still terrified me, they showed up much later into the game, to the point where I couldn't just turn off the system and never touch the game again. So I kept going, and Wind Waker became the first Zelda game that I ever finished. It ties with Majora's Mask as my favorite game in the series!
@Polley001 Huh. Guess I never noticed before but like, why the heck are all the Pokémon soundtracks like this? Is Nintendo not able to secure the rights to looped Pokémon music or something?
This is a great soundtrack, but the way they handled it does not meet the standard that every other soundtrack has set. None... I have to stress this... NONE of these tracks can be looped to 15, 30, or 60 minutes. This marks the first soundtrack on Nintendo music to not feature looping options.
When Nintendo released the soundtrack for Paper Mario: The Origami King, I found it interesting that they didn't announce that there would be no soundtrack for the following week, like they did when they dropped the soundtrack for Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. When we didn't get a soundtrack on Monday, I figured they were probably going to release something later in the week and drop a soundtrack based on whatever that may be. We didn't get a soundtrack for any Virtual Boy game, but this is pretty good too.
I can tell you the most likely reason these aren't part of NSO is because of Save Data Cloud backup. Nintendo Classics: Game Boy Advance supports Save Data Cloud Backup. When you back up your save data for the app, it backs up save data for every game contained within the app. It wouldn't be good if you could just download your cloud save after trading your Pokémon to someone else, least of all if these games are compatible with Pokémon Home. That's why you can't backup save data in SwSh or ScarVi.
On one hand, I'm glad that I held off on playing Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition (I just had other games I wanted to play). On the other hand, I don't think we're getting a Nintendo Direct until late in March at the earliest. This seems like something they would have announced at a proper direct if we were getting one this month. Still, glad it's happening, even if it was a poorly kept secret. I'm pretty sure there was code in the game to run at 60 FPS, which is why people were speculating that an NS2E was happening at some point in the first place. Hopefully we get more NS2Es, like Paper Mario TTYD.
If only they didn't patch out duplication glitches in Tears of the Kingdom. That game is ridiculously bloated with things to do, I would appreciate upgrading my armor being significantly easier.
@Kilroy I would love Nintendo to put randomizers in their own games, but the amount of settings that they would include would probably pale in comparison to what fans offer for their unofficial randomizers. Still, Nintendo is known to take baby steps... Maybe one day in 2089 they'll actually have competent emulators for N64, GBA, and GameCube that fix graphical issues and don't have ridiculous input latency on or offline!
They should be fine, as long as they aren't being funded through Patreon to develop these emulators. Besides, it's not like people are going to be playing games early as frequently, especially once Nintendo stops making Switch 1 games. The entire point of Nintendo taking down yuzu was because people were playing Tears of the Kingdom before the game even came out.
A physical release... from Ubisoft???
I refuse to believe this is character development, so either I must've hit my head and this is a concussion-induced dream, or I got Isekai'd into another dimension, hopefully one where I'm a millionaire!
@obijuankanoobie I was under the impression that because of the size, the Switch 2 isn't compatible with Labo, like the OLED wasn't compatible.
Then again, I really haven't tried using it, not even with BotW - NS2E
I'm glad that Konami is finally off of their pachinko/NFT nonsense and is back to making actual games, but the damage has been done. We're likely never going to get another Castlevania game developed by Koji Igarashi, and whatever new Metal Gear they're developing is not coming from the mind of Hideo Kojima. It's going to be interesting to see how they progress without them. They managed to do well with Silent Hill so far, so I've not completely lost hope.
I'm guessing they know that it's probably better to outsource Castlevania to Castlevania fans, and that's why the Dead Cells team is helping with Belmont's Curse, and I can only hope that they learned their lesson after Metal Gear Survive.
I'm glad that Ubisoft is actually including multiple versions, and getting an unreleased SNES build is huge! That said, though, this is still Ubisoft, and I need to see what they're doing in the future before I start supporting them. This will be on my wish list though for when I can comfortably say that Ubisoft has redeemed themselves, but they have a long way to go.
Would be nice if Splinter Cell got some re-releases/remakes. I never actually owned any Splinter Cell games, but I did play the demo of the first one on GameCube, and I really would like to play the whole game.
I think both of the questions in the poll should be multi-answer. I think all classic Pokémon games should come back, but if that can't happen under NSO, then they should be sold individually on the eShop, or in bundles with a physical release (RBY, GSE, RSE, FRLG, etc.) like Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation, but without being tied to a BS special edition that prices out most people who just want the game on physical. I'm sure TPC would overcharge for these games, but they'd at least connect to Pokémon Home.
I will never understand Nintendo. They will include widgets for Splatoon 3 in the NSO app and Nintendo Home, but Nintendo Music, an app that would only make sense to have widgets like so many other music-playing apps? Nope.
I'm already loving Hollow Knight, and if Silksong is supposedly better as many people have said, then I think I'm in for a real treat once I'm done with the game I'm currently working on!
@ShadLink I corrected it. This is what morning brain looks like lol. Come to think of it though, Nintendo didn't make Splatoon 3 on their own, they also had Monolith Soft helping with it. As far as I know, Camelot is working by themselves, with maybe some help from Nintendo.
Camelot really needs to take a page from Nintendo's book. The Splatoon games are multiplayer focused, but offer enough single player content that can be revisited.
If Ubisoft wants to start redeeming themselves, actually paying attention to the IPs that got them to where they are today would be a good start. Maybe they could actually work on Beyond Good and Evil 2, and not ask fans to make all the assets for them for free, and not use AI to do it either.
It's about time! Gonna be listening to Snif City while I'm working tomorrow! Can this game and TTYD just have a baby together already? Need something with the world exploration and cinematics from TOK, but with combat from TTYD!
I remember when I was in middle school, I saw Pokémon on the cover of TIME Magazine, and flipped through the pages. Iirc, the article was called "Show me the Poké-money," and it was about how the franchise became a multimedia juggernaut in such a short time.
Kind of glad I chose the cardboard set, and not just for financial reasons. I don't have anything in my apartment that I could realistically set the plastic virtual boy replica on that would allow me to comfortably put my face up to it. I'd rather lay on my bed while holding the cardboard set to my eyes.
I already played it with a multiplayer mod on PC when I visited my brothers. It's already one of my least favorite Tales games, why would I want a worse version of it that runs at 30fps and doesn't even natively support multiplayer? Oh, and it's a GKC? No thank you!
@SirLink Do you read what you type before you send it? Genuine question.
"No one's forcing you to buy it" is not the gotcha you think it is. It's nice to know that you don't have standards, but I myself would prefer to have novelty games priced as such.
I don't mind spending $8 for Super Mario Bros, heck I did it for the arcade version. But the only way I'd even think about buying a game like Ice Climber is if it was around $3.
Also, the hell you mean I'm fine with VC ending? I never said that. Just because I'm okay with the subscription service, that doesn't mean I was okay with them pulling the plug on Virtual Console. The whole reason we're having this discussion at all is because we are finally getting a means to buy games that we would normally hope to appear on Nintendo's subscription service. Now we have two outlets for retro games appearing on modern consoles aside from collections for specific franchises: Nintendo Classics and Console Archives, and one of them lets you outright buy the games you want to keep. Overall, this is positive, but Hamster needs to do a better job with pricing than Nintendo did with VC.
Anyway I'm ignoring you now, because I've already been subjected to one idiotic comment from you, I'll be damned if I'm going to let it happen a second time.
@Abighoul I never asked for a subscription service. Granted, I am glad to not pay for another copy of Kirby's Adventure, but the problem that persists here is that Kirby's Adventure isn't worth the same price as Golf. Golf, Clu Clu Land, Pinball, etc were worth like $0.99 at the time they were being sold on Virtual Console for Wii, but games like Legend of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. were probably closer to being worth $5. Here's the thing though, you can't just look at how much the best NES games are worth and decide that every NES game should be given that price tag. There should be a variable pricing structure that looks at the quality of each game, and prices each game accordingly. You can defend the inflation till the cows come home, but you can't defend them for overpricing games back then and still doing so today.
Hollow Knight. So far my favorite boss fight has been against the Mantis Lords. The boss fights in general are satisfying to overcome. I feel like it's been too long since the last time I played a search action game, and I think this one's becoming one of my favorites! Better than Aria of Sorrow? ...We'll see.
@Andee9001 Inflation my foot! They've been selling the arcade version of Urban Champion for $8 since 2018! If Nintendo cut a deal with Hamster to sell NES games so that people could own them, Urban Champion would still be $8! The question is are these going to be sold at a flat rate per system, with all NES games, regardless of quality, being $8? Because Virtual Console games were already overpriced to begin with, especially when it came to the likes of Urban Champion and Clu Clu Land, games that are fun in short bursts, but not $5 worth of fun, but that was the price of each NES game. I'm asking for a little more nuance in the pricing for these titles beyond "This was on NES, so we'll charge this much."
I've heard people call this the new Virtual Console, but NES games didn't cost $8 on Virtual Console...
If they're going to overcharge for these games, then they damn well better sell games that have been unavailable for a long time, like Faxanadu, not Ninja Gaiden 2.
Why is the title being so coy about naming a boss we've already seen in the last trailer? I thought it was going to have someone we haven't seen yet, like Hisstocrat.

Re: TIME Magazine Reveals Special Edition Pokémon 30th Anniversary Covers
I remember when I was in middle school, I saw Pokémon on the cover of TIME Magazine, and flipped through the pages. Iirc, the article was called "Show me the Poké-money," and it was about how the franchise became a multimedia juggernaut in such a short time.
Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For Virtual Boy - Nintendo Classics
Kind of glad I chose the cardboard set, and not just for financial reasons. I don't have anything in my apartment that I could realistically set the plastic virtual boy replica on that would allow me to comfortably put my face up to it. I'd rather lay on my bed while holding the cardboard set to my eyes.
Re: Tales Of Arise - Switch 2 Performance And Resolution Revealed
I already played it with a multiplayer mod on PC when I visited my brothers. It's already one of my least favorite Tales games, why would I want a worse version of it that runs at 30fps and doesn't even natively support multiplayer? Oh, and it's a GKC? No thank you!
Re: Hamster's 'Console Archives' Starting Lineup Revealed, Includes More Than 10 Titles
Re: Hamster's 'Console Archives' Starting Lineup Revealed, Includes More Than 10 Titles
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (7th February)
Re: Hamster's 'Console Archives' Starting Lineup Revealed, Includes More Than 10 Titles
@XiaoShao That's the neat part. They won't!
Re: Hamster's 'Console Archives' Starting Lineup Revealed, Includes More Than 10 Titles
Re: Hamster's 'Console Archives' Starting Lineup Revealed, Includes More Than 10 Titles
I've heard people call this the new Virtual Console, but NES games didn't cost $8 on Virtual Console...
If they're going to overcharge for these games, then they damn well better sell games that have been unavailable for a long time, like Faxanadu, not Ninja Gaiden 2.
Re: The Super Mario Galaxy Movie Gets A Brand New Teaser With An Iconic Boss
Why is the title being so coy about naming a boss we've already seen in the last trailer? I thought it was going to have someone we haven't seen yet, like Hisstocrat.
