Re: Sonic Team's Boss Wants To Put More Sonic Characters In The Spotlight

JR150

I hope Amy especially gets a big push because Sega has a real problem with not giving their female characters the same spotlight as their male counterparts. Amy has always been the leading lady of the Sonic franchise yet for a while she was characterized only as an obssessive fangirl and only recently does she feel like a decent character. Not only that but other female characters like Cream, Blaze, and Wave don't get nearly as much publicity or care from Sega. That's why I'm glad the IDW comics introduced so many neat new female characters like Tangle, Whisper, Surge, and Lanolin. It needs a better balance.

So I really want Sonic Movie 4 to do well not just to help Amy shine but to also convince Sega that their female characters are just as important. I really hope they let her have a super form in the movie too since Origins and Superstars confirmed she can access it. She should be seen as an equal to Sonic and Shadow--not a sidekick damsel in distress. Plenty of girls love Sonic and should be able to see themselves reflected in this franchise.

Re: Japanese Charts: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds Can't Compete With Mario Kart World

JR150

Japan simply doesn't like Sonic. Izuka himself even admitted that he's fully aware that Sonic is more popular outside of Japan than inside. That's why they're adding characters like Hatsune Miku, Joker from Persona 5, and Ichiban from Yakuza to help get Japanese audiences interested.

Unfortunately it doesn't seem to have worked. Japan has spoken and Mario (Kart) seems to be the preferred choice. It's a shame because I like Crossworlds and find it on par with MKW but Sonic simply has less appeal. When it comes to animal mascot games, Pokémon pretty much has Sonic beat on that front too.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds

It's about time. All these years of hit-or-miss games and Sega has finally managed to make a decent Sonic game and fun Kart racer. I've played Riders 1, Zero Gravity, All Stars Racing, and Transformed. The Riders games always felt way better to me while the Sonic kart-racers felt like they were simply copying Mario Kart and lacked any real identity of their own.

But with the CrossWorlds demo, I finally feel the same joy I felt with Riders all those years ago. Between the ring portal system, gadgets, and return of Extreme Gear from Riders, this game actually feels like it stands on its own two feet for the most part (some of the items still feel like clones of MK. Green boxing gloves that bounce off walls while red ones home in on someone? Where have I seen that before...). But things like the Rival dialogue and character interactions make this game feel alive with characters who've never interacted before finally getting the chance such as Jet and Cream or Shadow and Blaze.

I don't just feel like I'm playing Mario Kart with Sonic characters slapped on--it feels like its own unique game and serves as the perfect companion game to Mario Kart World. Between these and Kirby Air Riders, this is probably the best time to be a kart-racing fan.

Granted, it's still very pricey and I don't like the DLC roster being non-Sonic characters with no voices but I can at least ignore those and pay only 60 for this game on Switch instead of the 70 it costs elsewhere.

Re: Reminder: Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds 'Open Network Test' For Switch Is Now Live

JR150

Been playing so far and it's decent but the price and content/quality have me concerned.

CrossWorlds is 70 bucks at base and you only get 26 characters at launch and 24 tracks. Compare this to Mario Kart World which is 80 dollars yes but you get 50 characters, 30 tracks, and a fully traversable open world with lots of single player missions and collectibles to find. Even worse, the deluxe edition is 90 dollars and still doesn't offer as much content as MK World.

The gameplay itself is good but a lot of elements feel MK inspired (which isn't a bad thing of course) but I think both games can coexist since they have their pros and cons.

I'm also just not a big fan of the post-launch roster pandering to Nick characters. It's a Sonic game and I want more Sonic characters.

Re: Dragon Ball: Sparking! ZERO Switch And Switch 2 Performance & Resolution Detailed

JR150

I think everyone is forgetting that this game uses Unreal Engine 5 which is rather beefy and is very difficult to optimize correctly.

To put things into perspective, one of the things that killed Multiversus was the sudden remaking of the game from Unreal 4 in the beta to Unreal 5 when the game launched. Doing so essentially broke the game and made it far less fun to play for those that enjoyed the beta version which (among other things) led to the game's shutdown. Unreal 5 simply isn't optimized well yet.

This is also why Borderlands 4 is only 30fps on Switch 2. It also uses Unreal 5 which is very taxing on the system. I'm shocked that Switch 2 is getting this DBZ game at all let alone Switch 1.

Re: GungHo's Switch Free-To-Play 'Ninjala' Looks To Be Winding Down Major Support

JR150

Man I used to enjoy this game but the hit detection and monetization kinda killed my enjoyment after a while especially with less people playing resulting in only high skilled players staying and making things tough. Nice to see it go on for so long but I imagine a lot of it is due to the anime and merchandising which was really popular in Japan.

Re: Tekken 8 On Switch 2 Would Be "A Lot Of Work", But Director Isn't Ruling It Out

JR150

Namco might wanna consider it soon. Street Fighter 6 has been appearing rather consistently on the eshop's best-seller list which shows that there is absolutely an audience for fighting games on this thing. With over six million consoles already sold, Namco is leaving money on the table by not putting Tekken on Switch 2. I loved Tag 2 on Wii U and would gladly buy 8.

Re: New Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Physical Switch Release Spotted

JR150

They don't deserve praise. Rockstar is a multimillion dollar company and GTA is one of the best-selling game franchises out there. They should have offered a proper physical release of 20 year old games from the start. It's especially bad when RDR1 was fully physical on Switch. No excuse.

Congrats for doing the absolute bare minimum I suppose.

Re: Poll: How Many Hours Have You Spent In Mario Kart World So Far?

JR150

Have nearly 50 hours in it so far. After spending nearly 1000 hours in 8/Deluxe across the Wii U and Switch, I'm so happy that I can finally move on from that and play something new. World is a huge improvement in nearly every way so I'm eager to spend more and more time in World. Can't wait for more updates and features!
