This is exactly what happened when PVZ Battle For Neighborville released on Switch. All MTX present in the other versions of the game were removed and you were able to unlock everything just by playing the game.
Never say that your voice doesn't matter. Always vote woth your wallet. These companies have to eventually give in.
@Sambuc
Not really. They're pouring a ton of resources into only one last-gen version as opposed to spreading resources across three last-gen versions.
Focusing on just Switch is an objectively better idea since it may run better now that Saber is involved. They're the ones who brought Witcher 3 to Switch which is a notoriously well-made port. I'm optimistic.
The fact that Stryker is back has me excited. He's genuinely one of my favorite characters because he's just a normal cop dude with no powers. Love him.
@Serpenterror I have decent hopes for Omega Strikers. This game's peak player count reached 20K players on Steam compared to Knockout City's 6K (and it's shutting down).
Given the recent gameplay and trailer additions, I have confidence that Omega will have decent replay value.
Nah this gives me more Torna The Golden Country vibes than Persona. Persona doesn't really have an emphasis on pianos and heavy metal as its music (from 5 at least) is more of a relaxed, jazz fusion that's much less energetic overall and one of the reasons why I actually didn't like the soundtrack for Persona 5 all that much. It wasn't very exciting like Xenoblade music tends to be which is generally what I prefer. Gimme heavy metal and rock riffs any day.
Such a shame but it's ultimately due to the lack of manpower at HiRez. The Switch has Overwatch, Fortnite, and even Apex Legends but these are all from massive companies that can afford to expend resources on Switch. HR simply does not have the proper chops to keep this game updated and working on Switch, as evidenced by the constant crashes and texture problems that still aren't fixed five years later.
Shame. If you like hero shooters but only have a Switch, Overwatch is your only option but it's managed by Blizzard which isn't exactly the best company in the world. It's times like these where I wish Battleborn was still around.
@Hydra_Spectre
TMS characters would likely be Switch exclusive since they're part of Nintendo's Fire Emblem series but Touma on his Cain motorcycle would be perfect. I'd also like to see mainline SMT characters like Flynn, Nahobino, and Hell Biker, as well as Tatsuya from Persona 2.
The Valkyria Chronicles (a SEGA RPG) series also has potential. Welkin and Alicia in the Edelweiss for instance or Claude and Raz in the Hafen.
I'm actually very curious as to how this will run on Switch. Not that I necessarily think the Switch is weak, but because this game ran horribly on all systems and even PCs. Will be neat to see how it performs.
Nice to see Samba come back. Really hoping Sega considers bringing back Jet Set Radio. Recent games like NEO The World Ends With You and HIFI Rush have gotten a lot of praise for their style, so JSR would fit right in the modern gaming ecosystem.
@Zimon I'm not so sure. The game isn't doing so hot, but the brand of Ninjala itself is fairly sizable in Japan what with the merch and anime that's still going.
I give it another year maybe. Might just outlast Fall Guys.
It's a crying shame. Games like KO City are very creative and neat new concepts that have never been tried before until now. A multiplayer dodgeball game was a genius concept, but I suppose it simply didn't catch on.
It's the direction I feel Ninjala is heading towards. A creative idea that ultimately won't get anyone's attention and eventually get shut down.
It sucks how new ideas tend to flop in the gaming industry while only the tired, rehashed ones work.
It's funny when much less profitable games like Fire Emblem and Persona feature full voice acting. Pokemon makes way more money and should be able to have this.
And for those that say, "Well I don't mind it being silent." Good for you. Then you can just mute the voices if they ever do add them. But that doesn't mean the rest of us should have to play through a JRPG in 2022 in absolute silence.
Don't really care about Nier personally and would honestly prefer the Astral Chain twins myself since it's a Nintendo Switch exclusive. Loved that game and its style with the dual-action combat.
No shade towards the people that like Nier though.
@VideoGameEnjoyer
Never played BOTW so I can't really grasp that comparison. My GOTY for 2017 was Xenoblade Chronicles 2.
But if you say so. I liked how challenging Tokyo Mirage Sessions and SMT V were. But P5 having a lack of challenge is already a bit disappointing for me.
I also hate Joker's guts but that's mainly due to Smash Ultimate making him an annoying punk of a character that I hate playing against lol.
@VideoGameEnjoyer
Really is a shame, but that's just how it goes with updated re-releases nowadays. The original versions are impossible to play without the original hardware.
At some point, I'm still gonna pick up P5 on Switch since it's my sole gaming platform. I just wanna see what all the fuss is about and why everyone loves this game so much. I'm looking to see if it's worth the praise that everyone has been throwing at it ever since I found out about Joker through Smash.
Hopefully it lives up to expectations, but I'm not getting my hopes up too high.
@Jhena It's the polar opposite in every way. Where P5 holds your hand and is easy to breeze through, SMT V kicks you in your shins and spits on you, daring you to get back up.
SMT in general is much more gameplay-driven than its story-driven younger brother Persona. So if you don't like long stretches of pure combat in between minimal cutscenes, this might not be the game for you.
@Slowdive Yeah I'll look into SMT III for sure. Just hoping we can get newer harder games like SMT V in the future. I don't want everything watered down.
@Ralizah Shame that's the only other Atlus JRPG coming to Switch thus far. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE was stupidly difficult due to your allies being able to be combo'd by Sessions from the enemy so I was prepared for SMT V's difficulty.
I don't have a 3DS unfortunately. I'm mainly picking up Persona 5 to see if it's worth all the hype people give it.
Can't wait for SMT VI. SMT V is one of my favorite games on Switch due to how amazingly heart-pounding its turn-based combat is. Might pick up SMT III in the future too.
Until then, I guess I can give Persona 5 a try on Switch but knowing it's not as challenging is a bit of a letdown.
@Ryu_Niiyama
Pyra and Mythra are considered two separate characters in one DLC pack. Fighter 79 and Fighter 80 respectively.
Female Byleth is an alt skin and they're not doing those. It's also why there's no School Joker, the other 3 Hero's, and no Shirtless Sephiroth or Suited Kazuya Amiibo. These aren't separate characters. They're skins.
Even if they don't make a new console game with them, I hope they put these characters in another Nintendo game such ad Zelda or Fire Emblem to preserve them.
@Vil Xenoblade only has three games on Switch and Fire Emblem only has two--four if you count the Warriors spin-offs.
Meanwhile for Mario alone there's...
Super Mario Odyssey Super Mario Maker 2 Super Mario Party Mario Party Superstars Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Mario Tennis Aces Mario Golf Super Rush New Super Mario Bros U Deluxe Super Mario 3D All Stars Paper Mario: The Origami King
I get it if you don't like Fire Emblem, but please don't act as if there aren't plenty of other games to play on Switch. No one's forcing you to buy FE games.
@KBuckley27 I had given up but now that it's actually coming, I feel drained of what excitement I did have. The fact that it's apparently easier than TMS#FE and SMT V doesn't help either.
@HeadPirate I think the main difference is that Splatoon and Pokemon (especially Pokemon) are multi-million dollar franchises that people expect way more from because they should logically have the money to do more with their games.
Disgaea and Nippon Ichi Software are way smaller by comparison so expecting them to match up to the same standard just isn't going to happen. Disgaea 6 was probably going to be the last Disgaea game but it luckily sold well enough for a 7th game to be made. This franchise doesn't sell millions of copies like those other two do.
I'm honestly glad they did this. Even if they added Ike and Roy, it wouldn't have magically made FEW a great game. It still suffered from a lack of weapon variety (too many sword users and the only non-mounted lance user was DLC) and a general lack of substance. It was just a slew of random FE characters in a boring world with uninteresting protagonists. Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE is a more fun and interesting Fire Emblem spin-off than FEW1 honestly.
Three Hopes is infinitely better than FEW1 because not only is there variety in everyone's moves, but everyone has unique abilities that sets them apart from each other. (I.e. Annette and Hapi are both mages but the former has a unique attack buff ability while the latter can activate explosive magical charges that she can place on the battlefield). Not to mention the story is way better because it takes the great writing of 3H and adapts it into a spin-off title into yet another set of 3 story paths. While I still prefer true tactical FE combat, this game is a perfect distraction to hold us over until he next mainline FE game.
It's not a comment section on a Xenoblade game if people aren't arguing and immaturely attacking each other about "outrageous" design elements in a FANTASY (i.e. not meant to be realistic) game instead of things that actually matter like the gameplay and plot. It's one thing if you don't like it, but insisting on everything/everyone being akin to real life in games that are meant to help escape real life is just ridiculous.🙄
@TheJGG Rest assured, I believe recording is done at anywhere from six months to a year in advance, so at the very least, we'll be able to enjoy his final performance as Ferdinand in this game.

I guess but I don't usually hear people call a 12-year-old game "modern".
Oh well. I haven't played MK9 (or MKX for that matter) so I can't comment. Let's just hope MK1 is good.
Re: Hands On: Mortal Kombat 1's Stunning Presentation Has Us Anxious About The Switch Port
Honestly I can see them reducing the stuff in the stage backgrounds to maintain the framerate. Otherwise, I'm confident it'll run fine.
