Glad to see eating is still a thing here--loved that mechanic in Three Houses. Though from the look of the screenshot, it seems that we're playing as the guy with the purple hair. I wonder what significance he has to the story and lore of Fodlan.
@UltimateOtaku91 Yeah while Xenoblade isn't a big hitter like Zelda or Pokemon, the fact that it's coming out close to the holidays like Xenoblade 2 did (December 1, 2017) shows just how far it's come as a franchise. It went from being relatively unknown a decade ago and now it's selling millions per entry.
But yeah, Zelda being pushed back gives them extra time for those that like that game. I'm just concerned about Splat 3 offering enough new stuff to justify buying it when I've already played Splat 2 to death (and got bored of it).
@VoidofLight It's funny because that's what a lot of people said about 2. A lot of people were calling Splatoon 2, "Splatoon 1.5" and saying that it just felt like an expansion to the original plopped on Switch.
With this releasing on the same console as 2 though, it needs to do a good job of making itself different from 2 as people simply won't buy it if it's not worth it. Nobody wants "Splatoon 2.5" on the exact same system as 2, but we'll have to wait and see if that's how it turns out.
@Varkster I think it was a "WTF?" sort of thing from his perspective since he probably had no clue why the character would say this. In the original Xenoblade, Shulk actually says, "Alright I'm feeling it."
"I'm really feeling it!" is a line he specifically gave for Smash so he probably didn't get it right away since Shulk was added to Smash 4 about 8 years ago now and those lines were reused for Ultimate.
Regardless, it's super cool that he played along and gave us that reference. Xenoblade sure has come a long way from being unknown outside of Japan.
Xenoblade was completely unknown outside of Japan in 2010 but is so popular now that it has multiple sequels and is being referenced by official Star Wars media in 2022. Let that sink in.
Am I the only one that doesn't mind the new characters over the Miis? People claim they look like "soulles Xbox avatars" but they really remind me of a hybrid between Inklings and Animal Crossing villagers. Plus, the customization options for clothes give them much more visual variety than the Miis.
I dunno. I get why everyone misses them, but the era of Miis and their reign is over due to the Wii U's failure. They're still usable in game at least. But I for one, welcome the Sportsmates.
@vio
Paladins has crashing issues.
I have Apex Legends, but this is a BR game.
I do have Overwatch but like Paladins, it's a hero shooter.
I've heard Warface is rather low-quality.
I'm looking for a more grounded, high-quality, team-based TDM style shooter which is something that only COD can satisfy.
This better include all of the DLC they released for it. If so, I'm def interested. Say what you want about Activision as a company, but COD is still the king of FPS gameplay for the most part and lacking a game like this on the Switch is super glaring. Outside of Overwatch, there really isn't any other team-based military FPS game on this system so I'd be willing to play this. I played COD4, BO1 and MW3 on Wii and BO2 and Ghosts on Wii U. Had fun with all of them.
@Jmjfrank To be fair, Toad Circuit is no different from how it was in Mario Kart 7. It serves as the "tutorial" track as the first course of the Mushroom Cup in that game similarly to GCN's Luigi Circuit, DS' Figure-8 Circuit, Wii's Luigi Circuit, and 8's Mario Kart Stadium.
Imo it's a track that serves its role as a more casual, down-to-earth, "driving" level that the game somewhat needs since 80% of the tracks are insanity.
@Anti-Matter To be fair, this is the first 8 of 48 new tracks. 40 more are on the way and I'm sure some of them will use anti-grav since that's what's featured on the pass' promotional material here:
@Silly_G To be honest, I think they're doing this as a way to give the MK team more time to make a brand new game for the next console. If you look at it that way, it's not that bad. Plus, these tracks could easily appear in the next game's launch roster which is how the series has always been anyway.
They brought all of this onto themselves. Don't release money-hungry business models in a retail-priced game next time. The sad part is that a lot of people say that it's actually fun to play, but ultimately, no one is gonna wanna play something with such an awful set of monetary mechanics surrounding it.
Should've been good at launch. No one will be playing when the game is suddenly good in 4-5 years--assuming it even survives for that long.
@NinjaWaddleDee
Unfortunately, characters don't make much of a difference in a kart racer as they'll play the exact same. Diddy Kong would be another Bowser Jr., and Funky Kong would be another Donkey Kong--they would all have the exact same stats so there's little point. As much as I would like to have them, you can see why they're focusing primarily on tracks and not characters. Tracks are what adds value to this type of game because that's new gameplay whereas characters don't offer new gameplay.
@PBandSmelly You won't have to worry for much longer. Bobby Kotick and the people who were being abusive within the company are being kicked out once the merge is complete. You can now enjoy Blizzard games morally again.
@PapaTauren You're not the only one. It literally feels like any generic mobile title with F2P screens everywhere except you have to pay 50 dollars just to get in. Fortnite has more respect for itself and its players than this.
So long as they start improving how they handle things from now on, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Overwatch is my most-played game on Switch with about 2300 hours logged. I want to see this game improve because it's fun and I love playing it with my friends.
@RupeeClock Ah, I looked and have updated my post accordingly.
Even still, it's a very slippery slope. Who's to say that someone else won't adopt this idea in the future now? And as you said, people who don't spend extra are now pressured even greater...on a FIFTY DOLLAR GAME.
@Yosher
If it was simply a F2P game, then I'd be perfectly fine with this. But the fact that they have the gall to charge 50 dollars up front and then dare to ask for more money afterwards is borderline criminal when other products on the Switch (Mario Kart, CTR) offer a better experience.
@Degenerate_Mii
If you want to spend money on this game, go ahead. I'm simply informing everyone of the awful nature that this game holds in store. A nearly-full priced game with paid currency and free currency that EXPIRES is inexcusable by any standards.
Stay away from this game, everyone. It's a nearly full-priced title with F2P nonsense like Battle Passes and currency. What's more, is that the currency you get for free expires after a certain period of time, forcing you to use it within a certain amount of time or it disappears forever--literally stealing time from you. Something no other game on the market does. I'm fine with in-game purchases if a game is free--but Mario Kart Tour this isn't.
I know NL gave it a positive review, but now that the game is out and these awful mechanics have been uncovered, I don't think you should bother with this. Get the MK8DX DLC instead--it's a whole game's worth of tracks for half the price of this atrocity.
I'm still kinda salty that the characters featured in the original ad are nowhere to be found in the game. Princess Charm was a great idea that was wasted on a short ad. Besides that, a mashup of different video game characters/styles (FPS soldier guy, orc guy, sci-fi chick, and pixel princess) would've been sick.
@Synecdoche Probably because it's way simpler to make since it's the same exact shape to mold. Both Byleths have unique poses which would've required too much resources. It's the same reason why Joker didn't get his school alt and only DQ11's Hero got the Amiibo and not the other three.
Shame. After playing SMT V, I was excited for more SMT games on Switch since it's the only platform I own. But since it's not coming to Switch, I no longer care about it.
@Hero-of-WiiU Even if someone isn't interested in this game, they should still see it as Intelligent Systems taking their time with the next game which is an objectively good thing.
Three Houses also had really lacking map variety. I'd rather they take their time so we can get more interesting maps in the next major game too. They shouldn't feel pressured to rush their games.
@UltimateOtaku91 Well with the Switch being an infinitely stronger console and having larger games that take more time to develop for...that's just how things are I'm afraid. The 3DS was rather easy to develop for because it was a low-spec system and assets between games were easily reusable. On Switch, that's simply not the case.
For all the people disappointed that we didn't get a true FE title, look at it this way: 3H Warriors is meant to hold fans over until the next major game which means "FE17" is going to be more polished and have better launch content than Three Houses did.
I love Three Houses--in fact, it's my favorite RPG of all time--but even I can't ignore its glaring issues. The low-res textures, the occasional framerate issues, missing areas of the monastery (at launch), and general lack of map variety all slightly blemish what is otherwise a fantastic game.
But with this Warriors spin-off to hold everyone over, it's clear that Intelligent Systems is taking much more time with the next true Fire Emblem title to ensure that it'll be better at launch. I for one, would rather they take their time instead of rushing out new FE title just to meet demand only for it to have more problems than 3H did.
Even if you have no interest in this Warriors game, please do your best to have a more positive perspective and rest easy knowing that the next true FE game is gonna come later down the line and be better than Three Houses. I was hoping for another Echoes game so I was disappointed as well, but I'm not gonna let this taint how I feel about the series. I'm just gonna be patient and I might try Three Hopes out in the meantime.
The British dub gives Xenoblade a special charm that no other JRPG has. Especially when you consider many JRPGs nowadays tend to hire the exact same dozen male and female American VAs for their work. No fault to the VAs them of course, but with Xenoblade being dubbed in a completely different region, it helps the games stand out compared to all the other JRPGs on the market that tend to recycle the same talent.
@Paraka Well, unlike Legend of Heroes, you won't have any lockout issues if you choose to play these games in a specific order. That, to me, is amazing storytelling because everything fits together like a "choose your own adventure" novel without forcing a reader to deal with a specific part/parts first.
And then, you come out of one game appreciating the other more. For example, I played 2 first, then 1(DE), and afterwards, it made me appreciate 2 all that much more for how it treated its final boss compared to 1.
@VoidofLight I disagree. It's mainly due to the poor voice direction, but since he's a child, his views on the world are much different and closed-minded than the average JRPG protagonist--at least at the start of the game. But over time, even as everything is falling apart around him, he never loses his way or gives in to despair or hatred so his friends can give him the generic "you're better than you think you are!" pep talk like other JRPG protagonists often do. Instead, HE is the one inspiring everyone else around him and leads a group that contains grown adults (Zeke and Morag) towards a better future. That, to me, is why he's lovable despite his flaws.
But if you disagree, that's fine. I respect your opinion.
Honestly though, Noah has some big shoes to fill. Compared to the driven, determined Shulk and the lovable, optimistic Rex, he's gonna need to have good convictions for both himself and his final boss if he's gonna end up as good of a protagonist. I'm cautiously excited.
I think my favorite part is that they're making this game accessible for newcomers even if you haven't played 1 or 2. That way, one can go back to 1 or 2 and catch all of the hidden details and references.
My play order was: X, 2/Torna, then 1 (DE). Since I played 2 first, going back to 1 really recontextualized not only the events of both games, but the protagonists as well as the final bosses of both. It really broke my mind on how such amazing storytelling can work even if one game is played in a different order than another.
With that being said, I can't wait for 3. I loved X, loved 2, and loved 1. This is easily my favorite RPG franchise and I expect great things from Monolith.
This is the highlight of the direct for me. I've played all the Xenoblade games up to this point and it's my favorite RPG series ever. So glad to see it continue.
Also my new favorite character is the dark-skinned dude with the glasses and the birds. He looks sick.
This is amazing when you realize that the PS4 has been on the market for nearly a decade and has sold 116M systems. The Switch meanwhile is casually approaching that in about half the time.
It's crazy to think about the fact that many people thought it would fail before it came out and even through its first year or two on the market. Now it's absolutely smashed sales records and I couldn't be happier. This is an amazing system with some of my favorite video games of all time (FE Three Houses, SMT V, Xenoblade, Smash, Mario Kart, Splatoon, and the abundance of other 3rd party games like JRPGs and shooters just to name a few).
@Edu23XWiiU For me, 11 is the first MK game I've played since Armageddon as I wasn't able to play 9 or X due to not having the systems for it. Still found it underwhelming in the end with a poorly-written cinematic story, and the online-only features really dragged it down.
Blech. MK11 wasn't as great as I hoped with a wack story mode and awkward kombat. The features that demand a constant internet connection like the Towers were also annoying. Here's hoping they take time with the next one.
@anoyonmus I think a remake is more probable. They've already done remakes of FE1 (Shadow Dragon), FE2 (Shadows of Valentia), and FE3 (New Mystery) so FE4 (Genealogy of the Holy War) is likely up next.
And don't worry. Aside from Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn, they rarely make direct sequels. Three Houses having multiple endings would make it impossible for them to do one since none of the endings are the definitive "canon" one.
And since it's been about three years since 3H's release, I think it's time for a remake first before we get a new game.
Call it a tinfoil hat theory, but it's possible a new Fire Emblem is coming soon which explains the Byleth reprint. If I had to venture a guess, it's probably an FE4 remake.
@Erigen No matter where you are in the world, being rich is the ultimate scapegoat.
The silver lining is that he will no longer have any influence over the gaming industry and abuse cases will hopefully start to fall once Phil Spencer takes over.
Fun fact: The main character is a creep with a borderline abusive attitude towards women and is voiced by Chris Niosi--a voice actor who was let go from the role of Byleth for his abusive nature IRL as well as breaking NDA.

Re: MonolithSoft Director Shares Insights And Hints On Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Re: It's Official, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Is Launching On Nintendo Switch This September
This is the highlight of the direct for me. I've played all the Xenoblade games up to this point and it's my favorite RPG series ever. So glad to see it continue.
Also my new favorite character is the dark-skinned dude with the glasses and the birds. He looks sick.
Re: Nintendo Switch Has Now Outsold Both The Wii And PlayStation
Re: Mortal Kombat 12 Seemingly Teased By NetherRealm Producer
@Edu23XWiiU
For me, 11 is the first MK game I've played since Armageddon as I wasn't able to play 9 or X due to not having the systems for it. Still found it underwhelming in the end with a poorly-written cinematic story, and the online-only features really dragged it down.
Re: Mortal Kombat 12 Seemingly Teased By NetherRealm Producer
@GannonBanned
If you liked the game, that's fine. I respectfully disagree. It just wasn't as great as I thought it would be.
Re: Mortal Kombat 12 Seemingly Teased By NetherRealm Producer
Blech. MK11 wasn't as great as I hoped with a wack story mode and awkward kombat. The features that demand a constant internet connection like the Towers were also annoying. Here's hoping they take time with the next one.
Re: Three Kirby amiibo Appear To Be Getting Reprints (North America)
@anoyonmus
I think a remake is more probable.
Re: Three Kirby amiibo Appear To Be Getting Reprints (North America)
@anoyonmus
A new FE game is probably coming soon I'd wager.
Re: Three Kirby amiibo Appear To Be Getting Reprints (North America)
Call it a tinfoil hat theory, but it's possible a new Fire Emblem is coming soon which explains the Byleth reprint. If I had to venture a guess, it's probably an FE4 remake.
Re: Activision Blizzard Boss To Leave When Xbox Deal Is Done, Report Claims
@Erigen
No matter where you are in the world, being rich is the ultimate scapegoat.
The silver lining is that he will no longer have any influence over the gaming industry and abuse cases will hopefully start to fall once Phil Spencer takes over.
Re: 'YIIK: A Post-Modern RPG' To Receive Free Definitive Edition Update This Year
Fun fact: The main character is a creep with a borderline abusive attitude towards women and is voiced by Chris Niosi--a voice actor who was let go from the role of Byleth for his abusive nature IRL as well as breaking NDA.
Just thought people should know.
Re: Good Smile Company Releasing Fire Emblem: Three Houses Byleth Figure, Pre-Orders Are Now Live
At least people can stop complaining about her not getting a Smash Amiibo now.
Re: Bravely Default Mobile Spin Off Releases In Japan This Month
Wow this almost looks better than BD2--almost.
