Amazing game and while I don't care for all the DLC characters, I got Byleth, Pyra/Mythra, and Kazuya so I'm happy. So many amazing games and characters are represented with amazing OSTs and I couldn't be happier.
@Marioracer
In all fairness, "Ultimate" is what the game is known as overseas. In Japan, it's called "Special" likely in reference to the fact that this is a special occasion with every character returning.
I still think the fact that FE Three Houses won two Game Awards is pretty awesome. Shows how a great Nintendo game can prevail even at a show that prioritizes Sony.
While I've never played Melee, I can't ignore its significance. This is the game that brought loads of rather (at the time) obscure characters to the series such as Game & Watch, Ice Climbers, Marth, and Roy.
Marth and Roy are particularly significant because their inclusion in Melee is what sparked interest in the Fire Emblem series in the West and is what caused all future games in the series to be localized. If it wasn't for that, the series likely would've been cancelled by this point and wouldn't have the significance it does today (Three Houses winning 2 Game Awards for one thing). It's crazy since they were originally considering dropping Marth and Roy from the Western release of Melee entirely. No other Nintendo franchise has had this much of a turnaround from obscurity to worldwide popularity.
Not to mention Marth and Roy were the first "true" swordfighters of Smash. (Link was more of a multi-tool character while the latter two used nothing but their sword skills.) And I imagined that Marth and Roy laid the groundwork for every other sword-based character that was added after them such as Ike, Shulk, Sephiroth, and even Sora.
So yeah, even though my first game was Brawl, I'm still happy that Melee exists. It's partially because of it that my favorite RPG (Three Houses) is even a thing.
@MrHonest
Yes I've read it. Yes there are quite a few ports on Switch.
But there are still more brand new, original Switch games made by Nintendo than there are ports of previous Nintendo games which makes your previous statement claiming that there are more ports than new games incorrect.
One look at this post will show you that Nintendo has released more new games for the Switch than ports of older ones. Whether you like these games or not, it's irrefutable.
@MrHonest
If you don't care, then why comment on an article of a game you're not interested in? When I see an article for a game I don't care about, I just keep scrolling.
@MrHonest
Most Nintendo fans who had a Wii U have never played these games so they're going to appeal to a majority of people. I never played things like Disgaea, Neptunia, God Eater, Mana, Valkyria Chronicles, or Dot Hack because these games weren't present on Wii U but they are all on Switch now. Same goes for the Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Ys series, and other JRPGs.
This is for people like me who haven't experienced these games before. Switch has essentially become one of the best systems for JRPGs.
@OnlyItsMeReid It's a difficult situation--would you rather the game not get as many players and potentially die because people aren't as interested in a game they have to pay for?
I know I'd be more willing to try it if it was free. But there's no clear answer here.
@Qwertyninty Good. COD is a shell of its former self and doesn't deserve to make money off of the Switch or its users. All it is now is an obligatory Madden-style annual release with little to no innovation except when it comes to monetization. Even the hardcore fans are annoyed with Vanguard which is pretty significant.
I stand firm on the fact that the last good one was Black Ops II which was coincidentally the second-to-last one released for a Nintendo system--being the Wii U (followed by Ghosts which nobody really liked anyway). But that was back when Activision cared about making good games which they clearly don't anymore.
@Kobeskillz
I mostly mean in reference to the fact that Sony Interactive Entertainment (owner of the PlayStation brand) is based in California and has recently adopted censorship-happy policies that Nintendo doesn't follow.
Just today on NintendoLife you can find an article about how a developer made a family-friendly version of a risque game and replaced the women with rabbits likely as a way to spite Sony on PS4/5 while the Switch version has all of the lewd aspects intact. Meanwhile, hyper-violent video games like God of War and Last of Us are okay for PS4/5 somehow.
So yeah, California is terrible and I'm super glad to see Nintendo leave this state and make sure everyone gets new work in other areas without issue.
To be fair, Cassidy is an extremely common surname in Ireland. It's a bit different when you name someone directly after you're working with as opposed to making up a name that doesn't reference anyone in particular. Plus, Butch Cassidy was born nearly 200 years ago and isn't a part of our current culture anymore. Like you said, any name can be linked to someone unsavory from the past (Benedict [Arnold], Ivan [The Terrible], Napoleon, etc). Just don't name someone directly after someone alive.
Do people not realize that the people who make Overwatch and the heads at Blizzard who allowed the toxic working environment are two different sets of people? The Overwatch dev team is simply taking the measures they can to distance themselves from someone who was a horrible person in real life. They can't radically change the entire work environment for everyone else at the company overnight. Yes, Blizzard as a whole needs to change but this is all the OW team is capable of doing right now.
@FNL Eliwood is from Fire Emblem: Blazing Blade (the prequel to the game Roy is from) and eventually becomes a Paladin (horseback rider) in subsequent games. Marth cannot become a Paladin in any Fire Emblem game. They're two completely different characters.
While I don't care for KH whatsoever, I have full respect for Sakurai and his team at Nintendo for going through all the hoops involved with Square and Disney to get this character that people have wanted for so long. Hope everyone is happy with the end result.
@CharlieGirl
Don't forget that Fatal Fury's Terry Bogard's appearance in the KOF series is what inspired Smash to begin with!
Which is funny because KOF was inspired by Art of Fighting's Ryo Sakazaki's secret boss appearance in Fatal Fury Special. Which is arguably the first video game crossover ever.
@ATaco I for one am happy to see a game get continued support three years in. The pandemic has pushed everything back--and if it wasn't for that, we probably would've been done with the fighter passes in 2020.
@Krull Bruh I literally did lmao. Look near the top of the comment section.
Currently playing VC1 on Switch and I'm loving the WWII setting being turned into a JRPG so I'm planning on getting VC4 soon. I'd be hyped to have another one.
@UglyCasanova Considering both games are F2P and cosmetics are the only way to make money, I'd say it certainly is a priority.
In Fortnite, it's annoying and painful because you have to hope and pray an outfit you missed returns. And if you see an outfit you like, you are essentially forced to spend money on it right away due to FOMO.
In Ninjala, no such thing exists. All outfits and cosmetics are available at all times which means there is no FOMO and you can obtain what you want, when you want. It's miles better than what Fortnite does and makes it a better experience because the player is not psychologically manipulated into spending money under a time constraint.
@JeanPaul
Yeah. Every single character in Smash Bros shows off personality in some form whether they speak or don't speak. From the overconfident Ken to the cold, cunning Sephiroth. From the happy-go-lucky Min Min to the timid, relaxed Luigi. From the bold, yet ruthless Ike to the devilishly devious Wolf. Everyone shows who they are with their animations AND sound design.
One of my favorite lines is actually Chrom's "Sorry!" when he gets KO'd. It's as if he's apologizing to the player which fits his clumsy, yet well-meaning demeanor he shows towards Robin and Lissa in Fire Emblem Awakening.
Even characters who don't speak like Pac-Man, King K. Rool, Isabelle, Ridley, and Kirby have personality thanks to their animations.
This game is just...nowhere close to what Nintendo accomplished. The way Smash Bros brings every character to life is seriously underrated.
@Aerona @jump Personally, it's not so much the cards that turn me off, but rather the fact that you'll get random ones every single time you play. I don't like the idea of not being able to plan out what I want to do because I may end up with abilities that put me at a disadvantage and I may desire to restart the level to reroll my cards, thus rendering the random aspect moot in my eyes.
It's okay if you guys like it, but I don't--and not everyone else will either. Different people like different things.
@Dr_Lugae Oof. This looks pretty bland. What kills it for me is the general lack of defensive terrain/tiles along with the bloated size of everything. This just looks like it'll take forever to get through.
