Re: Feature: What We Expect From Nintendo For Super Mario Bros.' 40th Anniversary

JJtheTexan

I love the idea of the Super Mario Maker 2 update posited above.

I never forgave Nintendo for delisting and shutting down Super Mario Bros. 35. It was an absolute blast. Equally inexcusable was making Super Mario 3D All-Stars a limited release, both physically AND digitally. Limited physical copies, okay, fine, I get it, but removing it from digital sales??? Why??!?!

I got my copy, but still! What if I lose it? I'm just... out of luck??? There is no good reason or explanation for it. Preposterous.

Re: Nintendo Download: 1st August (North America)

JJtheTexan

@FishyS I have! They are definitely a product of their time, but absolutely worth checking out if you are familiar with their respective series or just want to try something different in a given genre.

My favorite so far is Silpheed. It looks and plays astonishingly well given its age and original hardware.

Re: Toad And Toadette's New Voice Actors Have Been Confirmed

JJtheTexan

I wish I understood Nintendo's thinking in replacing so many longtime voice actors. Is it just about money? It can't be saving them THAT much, can it?

I mean no disrespect to the new VAs. I just think it's terrible how Nintendo has discarded quite a few talented actors after decades of service to these beloved characters.

Re: Gender Split & Average Ages Of Japanese Nintendo Players Revealed Via New Survey

JJtheTexan

It's worth noting this only shows the data of who actually took the survey, NOT all Nintendo players. Pokemon has millions of young players, but survey companies typically do not poll children, for legal and ethical reasons. Without knowing the methodology behind this survey, we can't really draw any accurate conclusions about the total demographics of Nintendo players in Japan.

Re: Nintendo Is Seeking Player Feedback On Game-Key Cards In Japan

JJtheTexan

We can still vote with our wallets. Don't buy games on Game-Key Cards! Buy physical whenever possible.

I am lucky enough to own both a NS2 and PS5. This may very well be the first generation in which I buy more multiplatform games for PlayStation than Nintendo, if a PS5 disc version is available and a true physical Nintendo Switch / NS2 version is not.

Re: Furukawa's Defence Of Game-Key Cards Ain't All That Convincing

JJtheTexan

I'm paraphrasing ModernVintageGamer here: Game-Key Cards are plastic waste.

They have no game data, thus making them useless as a means of game preservation and / or reducing the data storage burden on the NS2. They require an internet connection and full game download, eliminating the convenience of cartridges in situations without fast / reliable internet. And they must be inserted in the console every time you want to play, eliminating the convenience of a digital download.

The only benefit is that you can trade or sell one to someone else when you're done with it. For me, at least, the hassle makes Game-Key Cards a terrible deal.

Re: Review: Nintendo Switch 2 Camera - An Elegant But Nonessential GameChat Companion

JJtheTexan

@Iconoclysm "As confirmed by Digital Foundry, the system currently reserves 3 GB of RAM and 2 CPU cores for the OS, which will likely contribute to getting GameChat running without issues, although it's clear how the new feature could be rather demanding, as the system's SDK allows developers to test their games as if the feature is running without having an active session."

Re: Witcher 3 Celebrates 10 Years, Announces Mod Support For Consoles

JJtheTexan

I first played The Witcher III on my Nintendo Switch. I couldn't put it down, and 150 or so hours later, I had completed everything in the package. I loved it so much, I bought it again (on sale) on my PS5 and once again completed it, though now in glorious 4K. Seeing and playing it the way it was meant to be shown made a huge difference, and Nintendo Switch 2 needs to get an enhanced version!

Re: Feature: Universal Won't Say Anything About A Zelda Theme Park, But They Don't Have To

JJtheTexan

@Ziondood in your opinion, is Super Nintendo World worth the price of admission if you skip the rest of the Epic Universe park?

I have been wanting to check out one of the Super Nintendo World parks since the California one opened, but I have zero interest in the rest of the Universal theme parks. It doesn't seem like either one is stand-alone; I'd have to get a pass for the entire park and go to SNW from there. Not a great deal unless there's enough to keep me busy for 5 or 6 hours at SNW.

Re: How Well Do You Remember Super Mario Galaxy 2?

JJtheTexan

@Stwert no shame about that. I, too, HATE motion controls. I own both Super Mario Galaxy games, and I dragged myself through the first one on Wii. I did not like it very much, but I finished it because I was sure I must be missing something since everyone else said it was one of the all-time greatest games. I never bothered trying SMG2. If they ever release a controller-based port for Switch or NS2, maybe I'll give it a try.
