I think others mentioned this, but just faster access to your various items, such as specialty boots, shields, etc. The 3DS version perfected this with the lower screen, which obviously isn't an option here, but a "quick access" wheel accessed with one of the shoulder buttons might work.
I would LOVE to see a line of Joy-Con and / or Pro Controllers with designs based on classic Nintendo console control pads: Famicom, NES, Super Famicom, SNES, N64, etc. There were a few skins and pricey custom designs for the original Switch Joy-Con, but an official version would be lovely
Fun fact: Street Fighter II on the Super NES was Capcom's best-selling game on any platform for more than 15 years, at 6 million copies sold. The record stood until Resident Evil 5, of all games, blew past it in 2009.
I'm a bit surprised by the general negativity of comments so far. I think Super Yooka-Laylee Kart looks great! I love the art style and I'm definitely going to pick this up.
I replayed Rayman Legends last year (Definitive Edition on Nintendo Switch). It still holds up great, looks great, and plays great. It's nearly perfect.
I get the sense that Ubisoft found a way to easily "upgrade" a beautiful UbiArt Framework game into 3-D, high-resolution via Snowdrop, and so they're doing this to make a quick buck without too much in the way of development costs. I know that sounds cynical, but I hope I'm wrong.
@BrokenCiv when I read longtime fans' reaction to this, that was what killed any interest I had in the Shenmue series. If you can't conclude the story arc over three games in 20 years, you don't know how to do it and likely never will.
@kkslider5552000 I had the same thought! Hololive Treasure Mountain did this first, and it's on Switch already.
EDIT: I got curious, and both Hololive Treasure Mountain and the original game, Fruit Mountain, were developed by BeXide, which is developing this Namco version as well.
My guess is they were making Yet Another Live Service Game, then saw Concord and Highguard lose a bazillion dollars, and decided to quietly back away into the hedges like the Homer Simpson meme
I feel lucky I got Heavy Burger before its removal. Surprisingly well-made and a LOT of fun, considering its original publisher's mixed track record. It's a shame City Connection hasn't republished it!
I would expect this loophole to get closed pretty quickly. In theory, someone could upload a video to YouTube with a link in the comments that could then be used to load malicious code onto a Switch 2... or who knows what else.
I always give the Pokemon I catch nicknames based on what I would call them, or mockeries of their official names. Examples include Metalgross, Dragondeez, Feesh, Axe Cop, Togetakiss, Copypasta, SpoonyBard, Red Guy, Aggro Bro, and Ihateit. See if you can guess which is which!
The weekly Nintendo Download used to be one of my favorite features and something I looked forward to every Thursday. It's been an indecipherable slop trough for a couple of years now. Nintendo Life staff, PLEASE do these differently! List the "featured" games (those from interesting indies and trusted publishers) and dump the obvious trash where it belongs.
I enjoyed The Procession to Calvary, but I didn't finish it. I think I got stuck on one of the areas and ended up losing a ton of progress, and just didn't want to go through all that anymore. It might be worth revisiting if there are a few more checkpoints, assuming that's what the developer means by QOL improvements. Regardless, the writing is great and it's one of the funniest games I've played in years.
@dartmonkey may I suggest another "Fake OS" title for a future list? Check out Needy Streamer Overload. Most of the game takes place in a simulation of a Vtuber streamer's PC desktop and streaming software. It's sort of a visual novel / dating sim, but it has some heavy, dark themes and is not appropriate for everyone.
I won't knock the game since I haven't played it, but the lack of Mii sharing is a nonstarter for me. Glad to see most players are enjoying it, though!
Perhaps equally important to its price increases is Sony's decision over the last decade or so to basically surrender the Japan market in favor of North America and Europe. (I could swear I read something about this on PushSquare last year or the year before, but I can't find the original post...)
Loved this feature! It was a lot of fun looking back at the reviews for these great games. I generally agree with the majority, with a couple of exceptions (glares at Skyward Sword).
A few omissions, at least in my opinion:
Vampire Survivors (endlessly addicting, created an entirely new genre)
OutRun (either 3DS or Nintendo Switch, it's flawless)
Mega Man X (really the biggest omission on this list, I think)
SteamWorld Dig 2
Fire Emblem: Awakening perhaps also deserved a shout. It has aged exceptionally well
I somehow managed to play this game quite a bit when I was a kid, and I loved it. I'm quite happy to enjoy it again on the Nintendo Switch, though I've already been able to do that with its inclusion in the Namco Museum Archives: Vol. 2 collection.
Anyway, I don't care for either box art. I'd love to see a modern interpretation from the Game Freak artists!
All three of these games are already available on Nintendo Switch in the Namco Museum Archives collections, if you don't have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription. Either way, Mendel Palace is a bit of a hidden gem on the NES and well worth your time! Great visuals and music, and a few of the enemies look like sort of proto-Pokemon.
A movie, like a game, does not have to be considered "good" by critics in order to be fun and / or enjoyable. The first (animated) Super Mario movie wasn't particularly good, but it was still enjoyable for fans. I think this one will be much the same.
My cinephile girlfriend refuses to see it. Too hung up on films with a "coherent plot" and "strong cinematography." I'll go see it with friends lol
I wish I could just be surprised and delighted and blown away again by something just one more time. It's a great feeling! But it never happens anymore, because everything gets leaked, or in this case deliberately shown to everyone because some imbecile in Marketing thought it was a good idea.
Awesome surprise character in an upcoming movie? Nope, you're not allowed to be surprised. Surprise remake of my all-time favorite game? Not anymore! Someone leaked it for Internet Cred and Aura Farming or some nonsense.
This crap is why my enthusiasm for gaming and entertainment in general is nearly at a nadir. Nobody wants to surprise and delight anymore. They just want to make money.
I was livid when Epic bought Aquiris. I love Horizon Chase Turbo, and pretty much everything I feared has happened; Aquiris was no longer allowed to make racing games, but instead moved to being a Fortnite support studio. No more Horizon Chase games would be made after Horizon Chase 2. Now this absurdity: delisting a game that has no reason to be delisted!
HCT doesn't have licensed cars or tracks, and the Ayrton Senna DLC is licensed but could easily be delisted by itself if there's an expiring license involved.
My best guess is that the excellent soundtrack, composed by Barry Leitch, is owned by him and Epic doesn't want to renew it.
Epic sucks. Tencent sucks. Wall Street sucks. I hate what has become of the gaming industry.
I loved The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! as a kid. I had some of the VHS tapes and re-watched them endlessly. Not sure it's held up well enough for me to watch it now, but at least it's available for everyone to enjoy now.
I'm very happy about handheld boost mode, but it seems strange Nintendo would just put it in a system update and not have a more significant announcement about it. Maybe a promotional video will come later.
Super Mario Run could have been a really great game. Instead, it's merely an average one, stuck with pretty much all the same content it launched with (checks notes) ten years ago??!?!?!?
This week, I am down-loading the exciting new action platforming video-game "Super Mario Brothers" for my Nintendo Entertainment System TV game console. It looks like it might be fun!
As noted, neither the Joy-Con nor the Pro Controller has analogue triggers. Sony / Polyphony Digital are not going to release a high-precision racing game on a platform with those limitations. (Imagine making Gran Turismo for Nintendo Switch "GameCube controller required" LMAO)
The 3DS was my all-time favorite games system until I spent some time with the Nintendo Switch. I owned an original 3DS, a 3DS XL, a New 3DS XL, and a New 2DS XL. I still have the latter two. Such a wonderful handheld platform.
I have the original release on PS4. DuckTales is by far the best game of the bunch. DuckTales 2 is mostly OK. The Chip 'n' Dale games bored me, Darkwing Duck wasn't much fun, and TaleSpin is probably the worst Capcom game I've played this side of Trojan.
I'm still getting the Nintendo Switch 2 version of this because I've always wanted a physical copy, but overall I can't really recommend this beyond anyone with nostalgia for multiple games, curiosity about the new SNES additions, or just being a really big DuckTales fan like I am.
I first played on an NES at a babysitter's house in 1988 or so. I was intrigued by the gold cartridge. So shiny! I loved the game, but my eight-year-old brain couldn't make heads or tails of it. I didn't actually complete a start-to-finish playthrough until I was in college, I think.
@JimNorman the poll is missing Nintendo Switch Online, I think.
I have an original Virtual Boy, and I got this thing. @Damo is 100 percent correct in his assessment; the biggest problem is, then as now, the neck / back strain I experience even with the most ideal setup I can manage (VB on the very edge of my desk, office chair lowered all the way, sitting with the edge of the desk pressing against my stomach).
As an original Virtual Boy owner (I got one for Christmas in 1995), there is a ton of nostalgia here for me, but geez I wish Nintendo would just allow us to play the games on TV in 2D. There's no reason not to!
The games are pretty decent overall. The problem is the Virtual Boy itself. I have an original VB, and the Nintendo Switch / NS2 accessory is an excellent, highly-accurate recreation... for better and for worse. I found it nearly impossible to set it up and play in a way that did not cause me severe neck and back pain from being hunched over.
I just wish we could play the games in 2D on a TV.
I have my original Virtual Boy (I was one of those weirdos who got one new). I had it restored a few years ago to fix some common problems with the aging hardware, excitedly put it together and turned it on... and I had an intense headache within minutes.
I'm a sucker for punishment so I got the official accessory and I'll do it all over again. I'm like that guy from The Kids in the Hall who keeps pouring salt in his eyes in spite of repeated warnings to stop doing that.
