Re: Random: Mario Wonder's New Box Art Might Be The Ugliest 'Switch 2 Edition' Cover Yet

JJtheTexan

NES: Nintendo reinvents game box art and changes the industry.
Game Boy & SNES: Nintendo creates an iconic, consistent look for its games.
N64: Peak Nintendo box art creativity.
GBC / GBA / GameCube: A little boring but safe and it works.
DS / Wii: More of the same but it's fine.
3DS / Wii U: Lots of space on the cases to show off each game.
Nintendo Switch: Some inconsistencies with the spines, but a clean, consistent look with smart use of red as a standout color. Looks great on a shelf as a collection.

Re: Nintendo, Sony And Xbox Update "Safer Gaming" Principles

JJtheTexan

@Questionable_Duck absolutely. I agree everyone needs to take action to address vile online predators and hate groups and those bizarre ultra-bullies who try to get kids to harm themselves. I also wish parents took more initiative and stopped caving every time their kid wants unfettered access to every device that connects to the internet.

Re: Nintendo Renews Trademarks For 3DS And Wii U Games

JJtheTexan

Tri Force Heroes is pretty mediocre as a single-player game, but it ~could~ be a little better on Nintendo Switch / 2 with a bigger pool of online co-op participants than I ever found on 3DS.

Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash will never be re-released in any form, for any reason.

Re: Gear.Club Unlimited 3 Switch 2 Pre-Orders Release Alongside New Gameplay Trailer

JJtheTexan

The trailer appears to show gameplay at both 30fps and 60fps, so I assume there are quality and performance modes, which is great!

I own both of the first two games (there was not much racing game variety on the Switch back then) and... they're fine. I'm hesitant to take the leap a third time without seeing a Nintendo Life review. At its heart, this is a mobile game, after all.

Re: Nintendo Expands Switch Online's N64 Library With Two Classic Platformers

JJtheTexan

@N8tiveT3ch we'll probably not see any of the great N64 wrestling games get rereleased because there are so many rights issues to work out, sadly, but who knows...

Mischief Makers is a wonderful platformer from Treasure, the former Konami devs who made Sin & Punishment, Gunstar Heroes, and Ikaruga, among others. Nintendo published it in North America. I really hope we get it on Nintendo Switch someday.

Re: Reminder: Virtual Boy For Switch And Switch 2 Are Available On The My Nintendo Store

JJtheTexan

I think I placed my order, and I got a sort of confirmation email from Nintendo, but the store page crashed after I clicked the pay button, and I still cannot get the Nintendo.com store to open or let me login, an hour later.

The email from Nintendo says "You'll get a receipt with your full order details soon," but it's been an hour and still nothing. Probably just swamped with orders

Re: "It's Make-Or-Break For Sure" - Shovel Knight Dev's Fate Rests On Upcoming Zelda-Like

JJtheTexan

@bleeflooflah you're right. I misremembered the overall commitment, and I didn't mean to imply Yacht Club did too much. As I said, I absolutely love the game and the developers! I think you said what I meant in a much more clear way; they got a little distracted with the side projects.

Regardless, I really want Mina the Hollower to be another big success for them, and I am confident it will be. I could see it selling 1 million copies in its first year, across all platforms, if it's up to their standards of quality - which it will be, given their willingness to take the risk of delaying it!

Re: "It's Make-Or-Break For Sure" - Shovel Knight Dev's Fate Rests On Upcoming Zelda-Like

JJtheTexan

I would love to see an in-depth item from Nintendo Life (or any reputable gaming site, really) about what's been going on at Yacht Club. I have followed YC for years, and it sure seems like their predicament is a combination of overpromising on the Shovel Knight Kickstarter, and mismanagement since the game came out.

The initial Shovel Knight Kickstarter campaign came with a LOT of stretch goals, and the funding hit all of them. They got the base game out in a reasonable amount of time, and it was great! ...But then they had to start delivering on those stretch goals, many of which were free DLC. So, they were pouring time and resources for years after release into free content that wasn't necessarily generating more revenue.

I love, love, LOVE Shovel Knight. I love it so much, I have bought it at least five times that I know of (digitally on Wii U, 3DS, and Nintendo Switch, and two more physical copies) and I've played hundreds of hours of it and its spinoffs. I personally wanted a "Shovel Knight 64" but I'm definitely picking up Mina the Hollower sight unseen. I really hope YC is able to overcome their mistakes and deliver a great game that sells!

Re: Gear.Club Unlimited 3 Speeds Onto Switch 2 Later This Year

JJtheTexan

The first Gear.Club was mostly fine, and the only racing sim on Nintendo Switch with real licensed vehicles for a year or so. The second is largely identical to the first; it's "fine." I bought both physical editions. Both games run at 30fps which is less than ideal for this sort of game.

A GCU 3 needs to be 60fps / 1080p at an absolute minimum for me to consider it. I'm not a graphics snob, I swear, except when it comes to racing games xD

Re: Nintendo Launches 2026 Calendars, Including One Just For NSO Subscribers

JJtheTexan

@lifer that makes sense! Apologies for my American-centrism.

@Briarback in the USA it's very weird: Sunday is part of the "weekend," and most people have the day off (schools, government, typical businesses) but on calendars, it's the first day of the week. Technically our weeks run Sunday (start) to Saturday (end), so if today is Friday and something is happening on Sunday, we would say it's happening "next week."

I have no idea where this dumb and bad system started, but I'm used to it.
