Re: Fans Uncover Unused Dialogue From Metroid Prime 4

Dr_Corndog

There are times when a new objective appears on the map, and the next time you open the map it forces the map to pan to that location for a moment before relinquishing control. It takes about five seconds, and it's not that big a deal.

MacKenzie, when he radios in, takes about that long to say his line and he's gone. The game doesn't pause; control is never taken from the player; it barely counts as an interruption of any kind. It's far less annoying than what was already a minor inconvenience with the map objectives, yet it's all some people want to talk about.

Certain people decided months before the game came out that it would be terrible, and there's no changing their minds. Play it for yourself if you're interested. I think it's a great game.

Re: Capcom Surprises Mega Man 11 Players With A New Update

Dr_Corndog

@CANOEberry Things like what? That its original lack of western localization wasn't the due to the contempt of colonial-minded Japanese businessmen for people outside their own country? Because I would have, if I had seen someone claim that it was.

Please take the time to read what I said. I never said that adding language options was a bad thing. I never even said that it wasn't newsworthy. (What counts as "newsworthy" on an entertainment site, anyway?) Instead, I took issue with @John_Deacon's insinuation that the @Dman10's opinion was the reflection of an oppressor mindset. It's baseless and it's offensive.

Re: Best Metroid Games Of All Time

Dr_Corndog

Time to post another comment on the best-of list for my favorite series. Hrm, hrm, hrm. What to say, what to say?

I still haven't finished MP4. I think I'll need a second playthrough, on hard mode, before I can rate it.

I've recently come to the decision that, not only is the original Metroid still a really good game, but it's better than its remake, Zero Mission.

I'll contribute to the Other M appreciation. Solid game with a terrible story and storytelling.

I've given 10/10 scores to Super, Prime, Prime 2, Fusion, and Dread. (Prime Trilogy, too, but that's a compilation and shouldn't be on this list. Neither should MP: Remastered.) Anyway, at least 5 10/10 scores. What an amazing series.

Goodbye.

Re: Community: It's Time To Rate Your Switch 1 & 2 Games Of The Year

Dr_Corndog

Rating Mario Kart World is tricky. Purely in terms of how much I've enjoyed it, it's a 10. But, the missing modes, the dull open world, the online nonsense, the annoying idiosyncrasies...honestly, I could see someone giving this a much lower score based on all the problems surrounding the core game. Anyway, I gave it an 8.

Re: Talking Point: Six Months Since Launch, How Would You Rate Switch 2?

Dr_Corndog

The hardware itself is wonderful. Playing Switch games on Switch 2 feels like an upgrade even when it's the same game.

Software's a bit of a mixed bag. Mario Kart World launched in a seemingly incomplete state and got worse after that one infamous update, but it's an extremely good game at its core. Kirby was a weird choice for the launch window, especially given the redundancy with Mario Kart. Bonanza is apparently great (haven't played it yet) but lacks the wide appeal of a Mario game. Other major titles (Pokemon Z-A, Metroid Prime 4) are also available on Switch.

But I've enjoyed my Switch 2 (and the 370+ hours I've put into MKW) quite a bit. More importantly, I bought it for the next several years, not for six months.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond - Meet The Team

Dr_Corndog

I liked what they were going for with the characters in MP3 but felt they missed the mark due to corny dialogue and mediocre voice acting. I like the look of these characters a lot, and the VA has been, from what I've heard, shockingly good. The dialogue has been...not great, but not terrible. Decent enough by video game standards, at least.

Re: UK Charts: Kirby Air Riders Narrowly Misses Out On A Top Ten Spot

Dr_Corndog

Setting aside how I feel about the game itself, I thought it was a terrible decision to release Air Riders when they did. It surely would have benefited from a larger install base and more temporal separation from Mario Kart.

On the other hand, this game's very existence probably has little to do with marketability, so in that light its poor timing shouldn't be a surprise. This is Sakurai's reward for his long years of toil in the Smash mines. Good for him, I guess.
