There are times when a new objective appears on the map, and the next time you open the map it forces the map to pan to that location for a moment before relinquishing control. It takes about five seconds, and it's not that big a deal.
MacKenzie, when he radios in, takes about that long to say his line and he's gone. The game doesn't pause; control is never taken from the player; it barely counts as an interruption of any kind. It's far less annoying than what was already a minor inconvenience with the map objectives, yet it's all some people want to talk about.
Certain people decided months before the game came out that it would be terrible, and there's no changing their minds. Play it for yourself if you're interested. I think it's a great game.
Despite its better art style, the Japanese cover lacks the color and the scene of the NA cover (and looks too similar to the previous five Japanese covers).
Retro pulled a double Flaahgra with the Carvex, didn't they? I personally love missable scans--not too many, mind--but I always end up playing these games over and over, so if I miss one I'll get it on a future playthrough.
@John_Deacon Thank you for the clarification. I disagree that the opinion is necessarily the result of cultural bias, but that's beside the point. Glad to understand you better.
@CANOEberry Things like what? That its original lack of western localization wasn't the due to the contempt of colonial-minded Japanese businessmen for people outside their own country? Because I would have, if I had seen someone claim that it was.
Please take the time to read what I said. I never said that adding language options was a bad thing. I never even said that it wasn't newsworthy. (What counts as "newsworthy" on an entertainment site, anyway?) Instead, I took issue with @John_Deacon's insinuation that the @Dman10's opinion was the reflection of an oppressor mindset. It's baseless and it's offensive.
Time to post another comment on the best-of list for my favorite series. Hrm, hrm, hrm. What to say, what to say?
I still haven't finished MP4. I think I'll need a second playthrough, on hard mode, before I can rate it.
I've recently come to the decision that, not only is the original Metroid still a really good game, but it's better than its remake, Zero Mission.
I'll contribute to the Other M appreciation. Solid game with a terrible story and storytelling.
I've given 10/10 scores to Super, Prime, Prime 2, Fusion, and Dread. (Prime Trilogy, too, but that's a compilation and shouldn't be on this list. Neither should MP: Remastered.) Anyway, at least 5 10/10 scores. What an amazing series.
So are there legitimate reasons to hate LRG, or do we just resent the fact that niche products aimed at collectors necessarily come with high price tags?
@Fornkly I think you only need half the crystals in the game for all rewards. After the last reward the green crystal meter restarts from the bottom and fills in a different shade of green as you continue to collect crystals.
@Apebitmusic They kind of addressed that for the shot upgrades, with Myles modifying the chips for your cannon. So the obvious solution is to include Myles in EVERY game going forward.
I'll rate it when I've finished it. Maybe after I've finished it twice. Usually takes at least a couple playthroughs before I can evaluate a Prime sequel, given how high my expectations always are.
I can say the boss fights are among the very best of the series.
Rating Mario Kart World is tricky. Purely in terms of how much I've enjoyed it, it's a 10. But, the missing modes, the dull open world, the online nonsense, the annoying idiosyncrasies...honestly, I could see someone giving this a much lower score based on all the problems surrounding the core game. Anyway, I gave it an 8.
The hardware itself is wonderful. Playing Switch games on Switch 2 feels like an upgrade even when it's the same game.
Software's a bit of a mixed bag. Mario Kart World launched in a seemingly incomplete state and got worse after that one infamous update, but it's an extremely good game at its core. Kirby was a weird choice for the launch window, especially given the redundancy with Mario Kart. Bonanza is apparently great (haven't played it yet) but lacks the wide appeal of a Mario game. Other major titles (Pokemon Z-A, Metroid Prime 4) are also available on Switch.
But I've enjoyed my Switch 2 (and the 370+ hours I've put into MKW) quite a bit. More importantly, I bought it for the next several years, not for six months.
@moevot138 I'd add to that the drama* around amiibo unlocks. If you're genuinely angry about not being able to change the color of a pretend motorcycle in a video game, then you've got a problem.
*Drama that exists only among a small but disproportionately loud subset of people on the internet.
@MCHuddle Agreed. It's not a valid complaint about the game being reviewed. If Retro had opted not to create amiibo-exclusive content at all, it would in no wise have affected the experience of playing this game sans amiibo.
I liked what they were going for with the characters in MP3 but felt they missed the mark due to corny dialogue and mediocre voice acting. I like the look of these characters a lot, and the VA has been, from what I've heard, shockingly good. The dialogue has been...not great, but not terrible. Decent enough by video game standards, at least.
Kirby Air Riders is not at all my thing, but it did send me on a Kirby kick. I'm replaying Dream Land 3 this weekend (along with regular sessions of online Mario Kart World, of course).
This was my first M&L game (of two). I found the battles tedious and the dialogue more so. I attributed these faults to this being the consensus weakest of the series, but after playing the first game I've decided they're characteristic of the series as a whole. At least the overworld puzzles are neat.
Nintendo hasn't known what to do with Star Fox since Star Fox 64. I think the fact that SF was created by another studio is a big part of the reason. (I say this as someone who has enjoyed post-SF64 games.)
Setting aside how I feel about the game itself, I thought it was a terrible decision to release Air Riders when they did. It surely would have benefited from a larger install base and more temporal separation from Mario Kart.
On the other hand, this game's very existence probably has little to do with marketability, so in that light its poor timing shouldn't be a surprise. This is Sakurai's reward for his long years of toil in the Smash mines. Good for him, I guess.

Re: Censored Dispatch Artwork Spotted On Nintendo's Digital Storefront
I don't really mind the "censorship," but it does seem a bit silly to change this image when you have all those cheap "hentai" games on the eShop.
Re: Feature: The Best Hidden Gems And Underrated Switch 1 & 2 Games Of 2025
I haven't played any of these because I'm incredibly basic.
Re: Talking Point: Does It Bother You That Big Games Companies Are Using GenAI?
"It's an inflammatory subject online, that's for sure."
EVERYTHING is inflammatory online.
Re: UK Charts: Nintendo Performs Admirably In Its Last Christmas Push
I'm happy to see MP4 on the charts three weeks in a row.
Re: Review: Despelote (Switch) - An Irresistible And Appropriately Beautiful Game

Re: Reminder: It's Time To Rate Your Switch 1 & 2 Games Of The Year
My vote is Silksong, but I still haven't played DKB.
Re: Opinion: Rayman 2 Is An Overlooked Platforming Classic About A Rebel With A Cause
My brother had this on the Dreamcast (the best version, apparently). I've always wanted to play it.
Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online N64 Game Ranked
@Bunkerneath I 100%'d it a year or so back, so I don't think there ever was a problem.
Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online N64 Game Ranked
Thought the score for Yoshi's Story was too high and discovered that I was part of the problem. I'd given it a 7 for some reason.

So that eliminates the glitch that renders the tires on Mario Bros. Circuit intangible, I take it?
Re: Fire Emblem Shadows Makes Metacritic's "Worst Games Of 2025" List
First time in a while I haven't heard of any of the games on the worst-of list.
Re: UK Charts: Metroid Prime 4 Falls From The Top Ten
I've put nearly 400 hours into Mario Kart World, but Metroid Prime 4 is the game that makes me really happy I bought a Switch 2.

@John_Deacon "Just reinforces the colonizers view: what's not about themselves could and should be silenced."
That's taking things quite a bit too far.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (13th December)
Started my hard mode playthrough of MP4 yesterday morning. In true Metroid Prime fashion, this game gets better the more you play it.

Just waiting till Thursday to snatch up my copy of Metroid Prime 4!
Which has little bearing on this topic because I don't live in the UK!
Re: Random: "Splendid Game" - Shigeru Miyamoto Was A Fan Of Banjo-Tooie
Indeed a splended game, and better than its predecessor.
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Bionic Commando (NES)
The Japanese box barely convinced me to not vote for NA. Honestly, none of these are bad.

@swedetrap Pretty much my thoughts. So many cool ideas in this game squandered by extremely shallow gameplay. Whole game feels like a waste.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - SNES Classic Mini Console
NA, Japan, Europe.
NA has a great asthetic and several game logos. Japan has color and style.
Europe can't be bothered with visual appeal; it's too busy plastering age ratings and ac adapter notifications all over the box.
