@Krull It was a big deal in the early days of CD-ROM. Fun game. The company who made it is now doing the Jackbox Party Packs, which are similar in some ways.
I was kind of excited to play this because I'd heard so much praise for it over the years, and then I did and remembered: I don't like sports games. So it's kind of cool what they did with the story mode, I guess, but I'll let this and Mario Golf both pass.
I enjoyed the first movie, but on a re-watch it became apparent just how incredibly thin the story is. (Still a fun movie.) So, I'd like a more substantial story.
And that's all I was going to suggest, until everyone else mentioned they'd like less licensed music, and, yeah, that'd be an improvement, too.
Such a fun game, and it only gets better the more you play, getting better acquainted with the mechanics and controls. The only time I notice the lower framerate is watching a video of the game on another platform.
@Sonicka The controls are actually great. Not sure why you're having so much trouble.
@Fiskern Similarly, I wish reviewers would stop trying to force some kind of false objectivity into their reviews, and acknowledge that, ultimately, their review is their opinion, and write accordingly. (I'm not targeting anyone specific here.)
@rex_rex It's moderately challenging, but I often hear people talk about games that I consider fairly easy as if they're hard, so maybe my perspective is skewed. But it's a game that rewards you if you play well, i.e., you can finish a level easily enough, but completing it quickly is much more challenging. High ceiling, as they say.
I want to love DK94, but I can't. Mediocre platforming and mediocre puzzling do not combine to make a great hybrid. As was said about Mario vs. DK in its recent review, DK94 is "fine."
MM3D is a much better remake than OoT3D. OoT3D rates so highly due to fondness for the original. As a remake, this version of the game does almost nothing to merit such a high placement.
For me, an RPG lives or dies by its battle system. Golden Sun has a lot going for it (maybe not the dialogue), but I just can't enjoy a game whose battle system is as dull as this one.
@Anachronism Finally played Ori 1 a few weeks ago and I have to agree. Beautiful game, but a chore to play. I quit about halfway. The sequel is apparently better, but there are too many other games for me to worry about it.
One popular take is that Golden Sun is overrated because of its target demographic and the lack of original RPGs on the GBA. I guess now I can finally discover the truth.
I can still hardly believe they went with that first Sonic design before the backlash. Was it ever confirmed whether it was made deliberately ugly to get attention for the movie?
I've never traded in a Switch game, but I've sold a handful: the Azure Striker Gunvolt pack, the Spyro and Crash trilogies, and Octopath Traveler. I keep the really good ones (and I have plenty of those).
Didn't see the need to play it after Octopath 1. Great battle mechanics and graphics couldn't completely offset some shallow mechanics and the thoroughly poor writing.
I played the first Trilogy only recently, and after finishing it I looked ahead at some of the events in the lateral games and was deeply disappointed that one key event in T&T was never followed up on. I imagine I'm not the only one who feels that way.
This collection inspired me to play Arkham Asylum, which I've had on my PC for a few years. It's good, though a bit shallow gameplay-wise. Production values are top-notch, of course.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Mario Golf (GBC)
Funny how badly those 3D renders that were all the rage in the 90s have aged.

Stiff competition. Probably all these games deserve to be in.

I keep forgetting Gargoyle's Quest is on there. I need to play that one.

Super Mario 3D World is practically on par with any 3D Mario (and better than Sunshine).

Going to 100% story mode on PBB before I start to focus on time attack.

Re: Community: What's The Best Switch eShop Game We Missed? (February 2024)
I'm sure it's due to the recent surprise release, but we haven't yet seen a review for Penny's Big Breakaway.
Take your time. It's a game you have to come to grips with to fully appreciate it.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (February 24th)
Penny's Big Breakaway, for sure. Maybe something else on the side.

Re: Every Nintendo Switch Online NES Game Ranked
A lot of these scores are comically low. I guess age takes precedent over actual quality, eh?
Re: Five More Classic Rareware Games Come To Nintendo Switch Online Today
Nice. I own two of these physically but I'm looking guard to all 5 on my Switch.
Re: Surprise! Penny's Big Breakaway Is Available To Download Right Now
Getting this one right away

Re: Oops! Nintendo May Have Accidentally Revealed More Princess Peach: Showtime! Transformations
Do we really need a spoiler warning in an article titled "Oops! Nintendo May Have Accidentally Revealed..."? It insults the reader's intelligence.
Re: Review: Mario vs. Donkey Kong (Switch) - An Easygoing, Kid-Friendly Remake That's Just Fine
"Fine" is how I would describe the original, too. I thought from the start this was an odd choice for a remake.

MM3D is a much better remake than OoT3D. OoT3D rates so highly due to fondness for the original. As a remake, this version of the game does almost nothing to merit such a high placement.
Re: Talking Point: What's The Best Nintendo Remake Ever?
Wind Waker HD, Majora's Mask 3D, Samus Returns, and Zero Mission.
Re: Jim Carrey Returns As Dr. Robotnik In Sonic The Hedgehog 3 Movie
I quit the first Sonic movie 20 minutes in and didn't watch the second, but I get a kick out of how much Carrey seems to love playing Robotnik.

HD-2D, and fix the busted battle system.
Re: Soapbox: After Years Of Lengthy RPG Tutorials, Golden Sun Feels Fresher Than Ever

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Metroidvania Games
@NintendoDad Both are excellent. Hollow Knight is one of the few Metroidvanias I've played that measures up to a real Metroid game.
