@sunny63 First and foremost, if you've played BotW, try your best to detach the experience from OoT. I've said it before, but while BotW is one if the best videogames ever, its the least like a traditional Zelda game.
This is more of a "trick" than a tip, but the fastest way to get around is not by rolling forward, but by Z-Locking and doing side-jumps. You will be able to ride on a horse, but not until the later half of the game.
Eventually you will get to a water temple. Its notoriously tricky, and just about everyone gets stuck for a couple hours in this dungeon. It helps to remember that there's a floating platform that will take you up to the next floor that you can swim underneath to access a flooded version of the floor beneath you.
And lastly, if you have the time to kill and haven't done so already, it may also be a good idea to play LttP on the SNES first. Its a solid game through and through, and helps establish the pace of the next several Zelda games.
I obsessed over this game for years after it came out. Such an important game in Nintendo history.
But I also have to cut some slack for anyone playing it for the first time. There's a couple decades worth of QoL improvements that have been common place in games, and its hard to readjust. The original LoZ for NES is one of my favorites, but its not a great starting place for the modern kids.
Also, just wanted to add-on that the video was way more emotional than it had any right being. Probably the most somber SMW slide whistle outro transition in the site's history.
Once upon a time, back in my convention-going days, I had a fully completed street pass puzzle collection. Even had some that were JP only. I had several games like Kid Icarus and Bravely Default where I sent out my most helpful data over to others.
That 3DS got pick-pocketed from me on the bus one day, which broke my heart. I replaced it with the galaxy themed New 3DS XL which was beautiful, but I'm never getting that data back. I never even bothered to turn Streetpass on for the new one.
But honestly? The part I miss the most was the Activity Log. It was so much fun being able to pull up a date from years ago and see my spike on steps taken while on vacation or at an event, and seeing the patterns of me falling in and out of all the different games I had. R.I.P. buddy. May the guy who picked you up at a pawn shop enjoy all the silly 3D pictures I took with that camera.
I like this plan, and support the endeavor! Currently in a bad place financially and had to discontinue my monthly subscriptions, but hoping to have a stable full time job in the coming months. (If anyone needs a salesforce/crm admin, hit me up!)
Instead of the next Smash game just trying to out do Ultimate, a proper Melee remaster would absolutely have a dedicated audience ready to jump on board.
If nothing else, this should be done to keep competitive players from having to carry around bulky CRT televisions wherever they go.
Last year, I was star gazing in New Mexico, and having weird issues with my telescope. I kept checking the lens but couldn't find an issue. Then this "person" walked up to us all hunched over, covered in a long cloak. (I say "person" in quotations because they were much taller than any normal human I've ever seen)
I was startled by their size and asked if I could help them out with something. I could barely make out their words, but they mentioned something about needing to get back home, and asked if they could have my telescope. Even though it was having problems, I spent a lot of money on this telescope and I wasn't willing to give it up to some stranger. I asked if there was anything else aside from my telescope that I could help them with, and they bent over getting uncomfortably close to my face to the point where I could smell them and they said
"I could use about three fiddy"
I couldn't believe it! It was the Loch Ness monster trying to swindle me out of my money again. I said "Hell no, you go get back to whatever body of water you came from."
I'm so deep in the ink at this point that I actually know the names of all the different made up bands, and would spend my actual hard earned money to watch a hologram performance live.
Labo really sold us on the idea that the Switch is capable of so much more than traditional controller input, and Im honestly surprised we don't have more games like this available. A+ for effort, and I legit might be picking this up at some point.
@gcunit As a self-proclaimed pun aficionado, I must say, you are truly gifted.
There truly has not been a 'bad year' in the way other consoles have had in the past.
The Switch's launch year was remarkable, ESPECIALLY hot off the heels of the Wii U, it was like night and day.
But I gotta say, 2018 was the year the Switch said "This was not a fluke. We're here to stay" and established itself as a heavy hitter for years to come.
Honestly, considering that 2 players can play online simultaneously for an NES title, and that the framework from emulation is already in place, online trading isn't off the table. I wouldn't even rule out Pokemon Home compatibility.
Now, getting those 'mons transfered to the N64 for Pokemon Stadium is another issue altogether. THAT might be a bridge too far.
I thought I would have to die a warrior's death to go to Sto'Vo'Kor, but here it is on earth, for the price of an admission ticket
For an east coast US nerd, the plane ticket to California vs the trip to Japan will save me so much money that I will immediately spend on official trinkets and merch.
Not a fan of the "Aquafresh Toothpaste" color scheme of Dread. Least favorite outfit. But by the end of the game with full upgrades, it became my absolute favorite.
Anyways, I picked The 3DS Samus Returns. Big shoulders = Big fun
While admittedly Ocarina is the gold standard here, my vote is for Minish Cap. I loved the "my childhood bff just happens to be the princess of this kingdom" vibes.
Not to turn this into a Midnight Suns thread... but Im really bummed that we have no Switch date yet. It makes me worry that that project will get cancelled down the line. The game looks really interesting, and I dont have PS/Xbox money right now.
They sold me with the "Magneto Was Right/Cyclops Was Right" clothing options
Bubble Bobble was one of my fav games on NES, and I played a TON of Bust-a-Move when I inherited my older sister's PS1.
While I'm probably not going to be picking this game up myself, I'm always glad to see Bub and Bob show their faces, and genuinely want to see these lil round dino guys stay relevant for years to come.
I dont find the choices to be all that creative this time around.... but as I was typing this just now, I realized that its a Valentines theme without being about Valentines. So I suppose that makes a little more sense.
I never beat this game. I got pretty dang far, then got really stuck on the stage where you ride a sliding block across spikey pits. Other games came out, and I never picked it up again. I really liked it a lot, and need to double-down and finish it.
My only reservation for a Switch release is that it cannot be played properly in docked mode. Touch screen is the only real way to move the cards around quick enough in the short time limit games where every second counts. Moving the cursor around to select a card, then selecting the column to place it on is just not intuitive enough, unfortunately.
Dig 1 & 2 are so much fun. The gameplay loop is so addictive that I could literally start up a new game of Dig at the drop of a hat.... and speaking of "drop of a hat" I absolutely loved Heist as well.
Quest is good. Its not as great as its other Steamworld counterparts, but it is definitely a good game. I beat it, but could not bring myself to 100% the game the way I had all the others.
I'm like 3 years late here, but I played a campaign over the holidays while visiting my sister, and we had a blast. Went home, picked it up on sale, and am slowly clearing out the lore store.
This really scratches an itch I've had for a while. Its NOT a perfect game my any means, but its imperfections come off more as "quaint"
It doesn't FEEL old per say, but I have caught myself shocked that I've had 3 different jobs and changed career paths twice since 2017 when I first played BotW.
I'm a sucker for special editions and steel book pre-orders. I do enjoy owning the physical cartridge, and not having to take up a chunk of gigs. Buuuut....
The convenience of loading it up without having to swap out cartridges, especially when playing away from home, is a HUGE benefit.
I got Splatoon 3 digitally, because I knew it would be the type of game I'd load up for a quick round here and there. I sort of regret not getting MK8/Smash/BotW digital.
Then there's games like Metroid Dread and Fire Emblem Three Houses. I'll play them obsessively, and even do post game content, then put it away until I get the random itch to revisit it down the road. Those games are perfect for physical.
I don't spend money on app games, but I would have opened my wallet for this one... except that I'm an android user. Unfathomably saddened by this news.
After attending a few gaming conventions, I was able to collect all puzzle pieces and 100% clear Find Mii 1 & 2. That one got stolen from me, and after I got a replacement and had to start fresh, I didn't even turn on Streetpass again after that.
3DS remains to be packed full of more features than the Switch, and to this day feels like a more complete system.
Good for them! Once these kids are inevitably let go by Nintendo, they can start a podcast about their time working with the company, a la Kit & Krista, and they'll be making bank well into their pre-teen years.
If this were 15, maybe even 10 years ago, I'd probably have geeked out and pre-ordered it, but I'm kinda over VII now. I think my interest peaked at Advent Children, and a fizzled out shortly after that.
