Re: Deals: Get 10% Off Switch eShop Credit And Top Games In The Nintendo Life Store Sale

Desrever

I figured since I was about to throw down $60 on Splatoon 3, I may as well save $6 in the process and get the double gold points for pre-ordering while I'm at it.

Unfortunately it wouldn't let me complete the transaction. I re-entered everything more carefully but I'm not sure where the problem is coming from. I know I've bought eShop credits from this site before and I didn't have any issues last time.

I'm honestly more salty about not being able to provide commission fees to NL for the affiliate links than I am about paying the extra $6.

Re: Splatoon 3 Demo Server Tick Rate Is Apparently 30% Slower Than Original's

Desrever

For Smash Bros, if I'm playing in handheld mode or docked off of wifi, its far too laggy to be enjoyable. Once I got an ethernet adapter, it became smooth as butter.

For the Splat3 demo I only played one round on handheld over wifi, and honestly didn't notice anything TOO terrible, though there were a couple instances where there was about a full second delay after hitting someone that they actually got splatted. Docked over ethernet it was unnoticeable.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think Of Tricolor Turf War In Splatoon 3?

Desrever

Tri-color was rough since there wasn't really any explanation. Also tough coordinating with randoms.

When I did play a couple rounds with a full team of 4 friends with voicechat, it was a much better experience. We could have one person get into the Rock base, and another player in the Paper base to distract them, and then the other 2 defending the ultra signals. At that point we finally started winning some rounds.

Re: Dead Cells' 'Enter The Panchaku' Free Update Gets Slight Delay On Switch

Desrever

After putting this game down for the better part of the year, Ive recently gotten back into the swing of things.

I had been stuck at 2BC for long enough that I threw in the towel, but with the accessibility options they added, I've turned on the option to have 3 extra lives restarting at the begenning of a level if you die.

It does feel cheap and a little like I'm cheating if I'm being honest, but its allowed me to pour many more hours into a game I thought I was done with, so that reason alone is all the justification I need.

Looking forward to this update now.

Re: Talking Point: Has Nintendo Done Enough To Justify Splatoon 3's Existence?

Desrever

As someone who was worried that this wouldn't warrant a full sequel instead of DLC for 2, I think it qualifies.

Weapons and gear aside, there's plenty new features that would have required a huge overhaul of the current UI design.

Also, what I'm very eagerly looking forward to is the "Big Run" event where you need to do battle in Splattsville Square to fend off the kaiju fish.

Re: Oops! Nintendo Almost Leaked The Splatoon 3 Direct A Day Early

Desrever

When I was at the height of playing Splatoon 2, only a few of my friends had a Switch and those that did weren't really interested in playing.

At this point, even a couple of my non- gamer friends own a Switch, and I'm betting that I can get a team of 4 together a lot easier these days. For that reason alone, I'm hoping there a Testfire soon that might just get them hooked.

Re: Backlog Club: Have You Seriously Not Played Portal Yet?

Desrever

I played these games long long ago, so this isn't my first go around.

I had about $25 in eShop funds, and I was trying to decide between Neon White & Portal Collection. I went for Portal, and despite kicking myself to favoring the well-trodden path instead of branching out to new experiences, I'm having a blast playing it again.

I've also let friends who were over play it for their first time*, which honestly is worth the price of admission all over again.

(*I'm secretly tricking them both into playing so that they'll get good enough to play the multiplayer co-op with me, which I have never played before)

Re: Talking Point: What's The Highlight Of Your Game Collection?

Desrever

Its game related. I have the limited edition faux-leatherbound edition of Hyrule Historia with the gold gilded edges still wrapped in plastic. (And a regular copy that I don't mind getting my grubby little fingers all over)

I got it for about $75 and, judging by current ebay prices, going for around $250-$450. Which probably makes it my most valuable item.

Other than that, my NES collection has a couple gems like Rescue Rangers 2, and TMNT Tournament Fighters (NES ver.) that I know sell for a lot.

As far as sentimentals go, for our anniversary several years back, my partner got the Link Between Worlds pre-order bonus that was a little treasure chest that made the "da-da da daaa" noise when you opened it, and could hold a few 3DS games. It was available in the UK only, so she had to coordinate with someone she knew in Manchester to have them ship it over state-side.
(And upon closer inspection, I'm fairly sure that one of these is used in the image for this article)

Re: Watch: Is Five Years Between Splatoon Games Too Short A Wait?

Desrever

I fully believe that they could have just kept adding on more to Splatoon 2 and kept with semi-regular Splatfests.

Alas, they did not. When they announced Splat3 I felt like it was too soon, but in the months since I have started to feel the itch for a new Splatoon game after all. I now welcome the game with open arms/tentacles.

Re: Random: Elected Official In Japan Is Looking To Legally Preserve Games

Desrever

In certain cases, the original hardware may not be functioning a decade from now. This goes for the original controllers as well as games. (Maybe aside from that one Gameboy at World Nintendo that was bombed)

Granted, we already have ROM back ups galore of just about every game since Pong. But having them preserved in a more official, and legal, capacity is still important.

Re: Random: Nintendo Issues Switch Warning As Japan Swelters In Heat Wave

I currently live in Maryland where its been hovering around 85⁰f/30⁰c which is pleasant for me.

That being said, I'm from Texas and most of my family lives there currently. Texas is on its own power grid from the rest of the country, and when everyone has their AC cranked up there have been mass power-outtages.

Its been around 105⁰f/40⁰c over there lately, and my mom's AC just died. We've been trying to get her a new one, but twice now the order has been canceled due to low inventory. I love my native state, but I frequently find new reasons to be glad that I left.

Re: Nintendo's Official Infographic Showcases All Games From The Direct Mini

Desrever

@Not_Soos Honestly, its both. Playing around with the Portal gun is legitimately fun to do and the puzzles really make you approach using it in creative ways.

But even on the simple stages where nothing major happens and the puzzle is fairly straight forward, GLaDOS's banter is hysterical the entire way through. Even if you already know what the ending is, there's so many deeply precious moments along the way that there's still lots to enjoy.

Re: Nintendo's Official Infographic Showcases All Games From The Direct Mini

Desrever

@Not_Soos In regards to Portal, as a fellow "not big on FPS's and puzzles" guy myself, its absolutely worth it. The puzzles can be tricky, but they're not so hard that you'll get so stuck to the point of giving up.

Both games have a much deeper narrative than you would expect from the basic premise of "human test subject stuck in a lab with a robot" because that only scratches the surface. Especially so in 2's case.

And for @Anti-Matter, I'd suggest the same. Maybe change Portal from a 'Red X' to a question mark. While the concept can seem a little creepy, its a delightful and humorous game that my younger nephews absolutely enjoyed. Entirely non-violent aside from trying to knock over a robot turret with a cube.
