I'm all for games having tie ins to features found in the app. Splatoon 2 did a good job of this with the store having exclusive gear.
But honestly, nothing in the Nintendo app beats what we were able to do with Dreamcast VMU cards. That was the perfect use of "playing while away from the game" and I'm surprised it still hasn't been achieved since.
I remember playing Jarassic Park on my friend's Sega Genesis (the one where you play as Grant or the Raptor) and then getting the Nintendo version that was developed by Ocean. It was a very different kind of game, and I was disappointed. Then one day, after being bored of playing the other games I had beaten, I popped it back in and thoroughly enjoyed it, eventually deciding that it was the superior version.
I've played other Ocean games since, but this one stands out the most.
Wow! What a great list of indie titles. I own most of these games and highly recommend them! Also, realizing that I connect deeply with a list of games for mental health awareness serves as yet another reminder that I should probably go seek therapy.
Honestly, all 4 selections are deserving in their own way. Some of the contenders didn't quite hit the mark, so I'm glad to see these were the ones chosen, specifically.
@Jimtendo64 Are we talking inline foil where the image is printed over a metallic background, or is it a hot foil stamped over the image after its printed? That little part of my nerd-brain that specializes in print and graphic design is dying to know
Having worked for years at a printing company that offered logo design services, I can absolutely confirm that clients would request dozens of small adjustments stretching a small project out for days and weeks, often times just to settle on one of the first couple options that was sent their way in the begenning.
And to be fair, I get it. Even the slightest change in colors can evoke an entirely different feeling from looking at it. And from a printing standpoint, there's always compromises that need to be made when shifting from an RGB image from a glowing monitor screen to a printed out CMYK ink on paper. And unless they wanted to pay out the ass for custom Pantone inks, that rich royal purple was going to need to calm down and look more like a grape flavored candy wrapper.
While I have beaten the Heart of the Spire with 3 of the characters, it took hundreds of hours of playtime, and I realize that kind of commitment isn't for everyone. I haven't beaten it with the Watcher though, but she's hardly my fav. Speaking of:
-Which is your favourite character?
Defect, all the way. With The Silent in a close 2nd
-Did you play with The Watcher? What do you think?
She can be fun, and there's certain builds that have been great, but I'm not a fan.
-Who is your nemesis in the game, and why?
Those 3 blobs in Act 3 that you have to be killed by the same turn
-Which boss do you find hardest (not counting the Heart)?
Probably the the 2 shapes (Donu & Deca I think their names are?) Unless I have a specific card like Corpse Explosion, they wreck me.
-Do you think strategy or luck is more important in Slay The Spire?
Strategy for sure, though luck is heavily needed.
-Would you rather have one extra energy per turn, or two extra cards per turn?
Gimme that energy
-Did you like the biscuits?
Yes, but you mentioned something about fetching a frozen pizza earlier? What kind of toppings?
One of my friends wanted to run a tabletop Shadowrun campaign for our group. I rolled up a silly pun character, and then read up on the entire setting of the campaign, and was extremely interested. I rolled up a second character that was more fitting of the game setting after I understood it a little better and wanted to take it more seriously.
Then he chickened out and never actually ran the game, and I read through an entire rulebook for nothing.
I think I'll give these a go, if for no other reason than finally getting to put some of that knowledge I gathered to good use.
I'm not sure of this is the sort of app I want to take up storage space on my phone with. But I'd be lying if I said its a dumb idea.
I think this is actually a good step for Niantic to take. There's clearly a market for a Tamagachi style 'virtual pet' game, especially if they apply what they learned over the last 7 years of Pokemon Go (my god... has it really been 7 years?) and create a fresh IP that they won't owe residuals and licensing fees on.
Pokemon Go has grown so far beyond that buggy little crash-prone app that launched in 2016, but I really think that they've hit their full potential at this point. There's plenty more pokemon to add in, sure, but there's no real 'new' features that will considerably change how the game is played like when they added in trading and PvP.
Its a Longshot, but the timing is right, and I can see this potentially becoming the next "big thing" that might even outpace Pokemon Go. I can also see it being a huge flop that will have the servers shut down within the next year.
I've been chipping away at this game slowly for years now. Its my favorite game to play when I dont feel like having to bother with reflexes and hand-eye coordination.
Just as of this morning, I've managed to somehow clear the Spire with The Silent on Ascension 15 with a poison heavy run, and then IMMEDIATELY after, beat it again on 16th Ascension with a Shiv heavy run. I'm astounded.
I've made no progress in weeks, and suddenly I'm so much closer to the 20th Ascension than ever before.
Already cleared all 20 with The Defect, and now I'm at 17 with the other two. (Watcher doesn't count. I'm only on 4th with her) Once I hit 20 with everyone, I may finally put this down for good.
Absolutely a solid 10 for me. Most Star Trek video games fall short, and now I realize it's because they don't include musical minigames based on each crew members favorite instrument.
I've been watching that McElboy play through LttP with the Guy Fieri mod, randomized treasures, and one hit kills. I've never done a randomized run, and it looks like it's own special kind of hell, but I kinda want to dip my toes into that pond and give it a try.
The true answer varies wildly depending on the series. Zelda is a fantastic example. BotW is the least "Zelda like" game in the series. I absolutely recommend this to first timers, because the most you'll miss out on is "Hey, this one mountain has the same name as that one character from way back!"
In my humble opinion, A Link Between Worlds has the highest level of "Zelda feels" and perfectly taps into that nostalgia. For THAT game, LttP should definitely be a prerequisite. And to fully appreciate LttP, original LoZ really helps flesh out how the game has evolved, and helps explain how the Zelda franchise gained the reputation that led thousands of nerdy folk to get a triforce tattoo. (I am guilty of this as well)
I have to admit... I am a sucker for video games tied to musical experiences, as well as concept albums.
While I've never heard anything by Red Ribbon (that I'm aware of) the guitar strums from the trailer hit my ears in a way that I find it agreeable enough to give a spin.
Glad to see the $4.99 price point, otherwise I'd have put this on my "only buy if it's on sale" list
Not trying to say the sync button should be anyone favorite, but don't forget that it is a way that you can quickly turn the controller off.
Especially helpful when trying to switch from my Pro-Controller to my 8bitDo. Instead of fiddling with the connection menu, I just hit the sync button on the pro controller to turn it off, then activate the 8bitDo as P1.
I've completed all 20 Ascension levels with the Defect (17 with the Ironclad and 15 with the Silent... only like 4 with the Watcher... she's not my fav)
Can't quite say this is in my 'backlog' since I've played it in between other games off and on for years now.
I know the direction that the Star Trek franchise as a whole is taking is a hot button debate amongst the Trekkies, but I think that Prodigy is a fantastic show and a great way to branch out to younger audiences who may not have otherwise been interested in watching any Trek series at all, and would actually end up preferring Star Wars incorrectly.
The game sounds like it might be hot trash, though.
I can be off of work by 3pm to watch the presentation live, as long as I'm convincing enough to my co-workers about the family emergency I have to attend to.
I came here to post about how the one I really want is the N64 controller.
So, its not just me, huh?
I have the 8bitdo SNES style controller that really scratches the itch for retro D-Pad controllers. There are options for 3rd party N64 controllers, but the official Nintendo ones are actually a solid choice.
I feel bad because I already managed to nab an N64 controller last time they popped up months ago, but I want ANOTHER ONE for the one or two times a year that I have someone over who wants to play a multiplayer N64 game. I realize that there are those who need it more than I, but if they're not habitually refreshing Wario64's Twitter account at all times of the day, then do they REALLY deserve it over me?
The tidbit about how the seeds of E3 were planted during this conflict is really interesting. Pixel gore content aside, Mortal Kombat remains one of the most impactful games to change the course of the video game industry.
Honestly? Bowser Jr and the Koopalings was probably the one I enjoyed the most overall. Other characters were more shocking or had more elaborate production value, but Ithink overall that was my fav.

Re: Random: Kanye West's E3 Game Pitch To Miyamoto Was Apparently "Very Moving"
Nintendo was never going to touch this game, under any circumstance.
Let Annapurna or Devolver take a crack at it, and I'm sure they could turn it into a masterpiece.

Re: Soapbox: Mother 3 Isn't Sad, It's Hopeful
@Pupuplatter It's "Mother's Day" today, which is why its popping up more than usual.
That being said, as one of the 12 fans pushing for a western release of Mother 3, I'm not mad about it in the slightest.
Re: Soapbox: Mother 3 Isn't Sad, It's Hopeful
I remember the first time I beat Mother 3 I immediately went online to look up how to get the "good ending". Nope... thats just the ending
;_;

I want to like G4 more than I actually like G4. But thats mostly just the nostalgia from back when it was TechTV talking.
Re: Rumour: Super Mario Bros. Film Might Feature Redesigns For Mario & Luigi
I'm way more upset with the potential redesigns of the characters than the musical numbers.
I'm sure the songs will be fine, and they'll just hire some songwriter like Lemon Well Miranda (or however you spell his name)

Yet, I am now leaving with the detailed knowledge of different video file compression formats.
Re: It Looks Like Nintendo's Game Boy Emulator For Switch Online Just Leaked
I'm not skeptical that we're getting a GB/GBA feature on the Switch. I feel like it's easier and more likely than the Sega/N64 was.
But I am skeptical of the leak itself.

Resident Evil and Civilization particularly stand out, but I wouldn't rule out Minesweeper.
