Re: Talking Point: Our 2024 Nintendo Gaming Predictions

Desrever

I think we'll get an announcement for Switch's successor this year, but won't see a release until 2025. I'm sure that we'll have one more solid Direct drop another big game or two, but nothing too crazy. With the recent news that Smash Bros will be adding new spirits for games like TotK and Mario Wonder, I'd be willing to put money on a re-release with all DLC characters included.

I'm honestly astounded that after all these years, we never got any custom themes for the home menu. Not even an extra color option.

@ottoecamn @blindsquirrel
He's in the Twisted Metal TV series, which you can find streaming on Peacock. I only know this, because he mentioned Peacock a couple times during that disjointed speech. Also, the event was held at the Peacock Theater, which probably answers a few questions about why all that went down.

@nessisonett Oh yeah! I remember that!
Geoff Keighley is such a tool, that I'm going to drop the charade, and just start spelling it "Jeff Keely" the way it should be.

Re: Anniversary: Zelda II And Castlevania II Both Turn 35 This Month

Desrever

Both games are fantastic NES titles that offer a lengthy adventure and replayability.

The only issue they have going against them is the fact that they are part of a franchise that have much stronger offerings in comparison. In both cases, the 3rd installments for NES were masterpieces of their franchise, even by today's standards.

Is Zelda II a bad Zelda game? YES! But is it a bad video game, overall? Absolutely not, and don't ever let anyone tell you otherwise.

Re: Best Nintendo Pinball Games

Desrever

I got PinBot for the NES when I was a kid, and played it obsessively for a good long while.

Imagine my surprise when as an adult going to a retro arcade/bar, and finding out for the first time that PinBot was an ACTUAL pinball machine. It was amazing looking at the table and realizing what the mess of pixels was trying to depict.

Re: Reaction: What's Your Gut Feeling On The Zelda Movie News?

Desrever

The Mario movie was perfect for what it needed to be, but what Zelda needs to be is far more than just bright colors and non-stop game references.

Zelda has a very rich lore, and even if they go the route of an all-new Hyrule and Link instead of taking the plot from a game, there's still a lot to tackle in a 90-120 minute film.

I would have felt more optimistic about a miniseries or a planned trilogy.

Re: Grab Some Spooky Savings In The Switch eShop Screaming Deals Sale (North America)

Desrever

Echoing what @Rykdrew and @CJD87 said, but Inscryption comes HIGHLY recommended, and just happens to be a perfect fit for spooky season.

But DO NOT look up anything about the game before playing it. It truly is best to go in blind and let the story unwind itself as you go. Even a brief screenshot of late-game content can massively spoil some of the surprises the game has in store.

Re: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Director (Sort Of) Explains What Happened To Sheikah Tech

Desrever

Let's be fair, people... If after the big scary evil thing was slain, and then all the guardian tech did the "glow-blue-then-turn-to-spaghetti" thing and teleported away shortly after, I wouldn't think it necessary to go digging into why they disappeared. It seems like an open shut case.

That being said, it would have done a lot to actually have this said IN the game. Even a throw away line from an NPC would have gone a long way.

Re: Talking Point: Would You Buy A Digital-Only 'Switch 2'?

Desrever

I prefer having a mix of physical and digital, as there's some games, like Metroid Dread, that I will play through once every year or two, and don't need it at the ready at all times taking up storage space.

Splatoon 3, on the other hand, I tend to pop in regularly for a few rounds between other games I'm playing. I went digital despite the file size, the collectors aspect of a physical box, and the appreciating resale value of said physical box down the line for the sake of convenience, and I dont regret it.

But for me, I guess it comes down to HOW much of a price difference we're talking about. If its significant enough, I might go for it.

And also, if my current digital library would transfer over. That would be pretty huge determining factor.

Re: Upcoming Prodeus DLC 'The Elder Veil' Looks Utterly Ridiculous And Brilliant

Desrever

@smithyo That's completely valid, especially when your muscle memory has been wired that way from a young age. I also have friends who tend to move around more when playing, or make jerk reactions when the game gets more tense, and loathe having those real world movements reflected in the game they're playing.

Honestly, it's just best to offer the option for both

Re: Upcoming Prodeus DLC 'The Elder Veil' Looks Utterly Ridiculous And Brilliant

I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one here with a hard line stance on gyro controls. I was never quite able to bridge the gap between WASD+Mouse and console controllers until Splatoon showed me the way.

I hit a wall when playing Doom 2016 where I couldn't beat the stage I was on. As soon as they updated the game with gyro controls, I was able to effortlessly pass the point I was stuck on. From that point on, gyro options became essential.

The graphics looks gorey and gorgeous and the gameplay really drew me in. Just tell me there's gyro and I'll fork over the cash.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (September 30th)

Desrever

I saw my boy The Defect on the article image and came running in. I'm STILL playing Slay the Spire, despite finally getting 100%, and beating the 20th Ascension with each main character (sorry, Watcher, but you don't count)

With nothing left to accomplish in the game, I put it down for quite a while before being drawn back in and deciding I'll try to beat the 20th Ascension WITH the 3 keys to fight the heart at the end. SURELY this will help my squeeze several more hours of playtime out if this game.

Also, F-Zero 99 and TotK

Re: Jurassic Park: Classic Games Collection Adds Two Sega Genesis Titles

Desrever

As soon as I saw the article's image of the T-Rex on the home page, I knew exactly what game was being showcased. And to find out its part of the collection is icing on the cake.

I grew up with the Ocean game on NES, but my friend's had the Sega version which I was always jealous of. The bass-heavy ambient music really gave it a memorable atmosphere.
This collection is the best of both worlds, and I'm 100% buying this now.

Re: Takaya Imamura Expresses His Love For F-Zero 99, Awaits 'Revival Of The IP'

Desrever

This was probably the biggest surprise for me out of the entire direct. The formula lends itself very well to the "99" format of games.

Tetris 99 was, and remains, an excellent title. But the Mario 35 game was a novelty at best. And Pacman 99 fell far short of the mark for me.

If the game still has a solid player base a few months from now, then this just might be the boost in popularity that F-Zero needs to score a new entry in the series.
