I hope this game gets a Switch 2 Upgrade Pack at some point. I think I'll still buy digital. Cozy games are just so much easier to swap between when digital.
I find it odd that this announcement was made WITHOUT the announcement for Prime 2 and 3 Remastered. Some of us never played the GameCube and Wii originals (I tried to play Prime Trilogy on Wii when that was released but the game was so literally dark, I couldn't tell where to go or what to do). It would have been nice to have the entire Prime saga on one system so where's Prime 2 and 3 Remastered? Are those going to be released or do you think Nintendo just wants to forget about those games at this point?
I don't know.....this game will release at full MSRP even though at this point it REALLY shouldn't. I don't think I'll get it, I already have the Wii and 3DS versions. Was hoping for an actual new DK Country game on Switch.......and for DK64 to have been added to Nintendo Switch Online but alas, not meant to be.
I already have the TotK Switch OLED so I won't be getting this Switch Lite system, but I'm definitely picking up the game. Was hoping they would have announced a Special Edition for it....maybe closer to launch!
In Canada, the physical deluxe set preorder is the same price as just preordering the digital version off the eShop. So there's literally no reason to not choose the physical set with all the bonus collectibles. Unless you have no space for it, then sure go the digital route. But in this case, it was super easily justifiable because the Deluxe Set is at no additional cost.
I wish Nintendo would fix the shoddy voice chat part of this app. It happens so many times in games like Mario Kart or Splatoon 3 where there's a communication error and we all get booted from the voice chat and then when we go to create a new room, the voice chat doesn't re-enable. There's no button to select to connect to a new lobby. Closing the app and restarting it does nothing. And before people say "just go use Discord." Their latest update is absolutely crap and for some reason some days it works with my AirPods Pro and other days it won't accept them as a microphone making it utterly useless for voice chat.
I loved playing this game on MS-DOS way back in the day. I remember having to add a whopping 4 additional MBs to my computer so I could play it. Wow I'm old, HA. I'll still be buying it on Switch, it's the system I play most on simply because of the hybrid nature.
@graviton It's not "a year" delay. First of all, nothing has been announced therefore nothing is delayed. Second, at earliest Nintendo would have launched the next Switch for holidays 2024 because Switch 1 still has games coming for the first 2 quarters of 2024. So delaying to potentially March 2025 is literally 3-4 months...not a year.
Good reasoning and frankly I'm 100% sure that everybody clamoring for a new Switch actually has a sizeable backlog on their current Switch that realistically even with an extra few months delay likely won't put a dent in regardless. We're still in a cost of living crisis in most of the West, especially in Canada. Even if the Super Nintendo Switch launched this year, I know several people (myself included) who wouldn't buy at launch simply because we have bills and other nuisances of daily life to get through before finding any discretionary funds to purchase a new console. Also any slight delay (and this is a rather small delay that headlines are kind of exasperating out of context frankly) will give developers a chance to get more games out and flood the launch with a lot of titles, rather than a repeat of just BOTW and Snipper Clips like we had in 2017.
I would love to see these games brought to Nintendo Switch Online - GBA. I also want to see a new Legends game set in Johto, or a new Let's Go set in Johto because gen 2 is still my favourite games in the entire series. I think Pokemon really needs these older games added to NSO, be it on the GB & GBA respective apps or their own app (but if its their own app, then every single retro Pokemon game needs to be there to justify its likely inclusion in the Expansion Pass).
@nimnio To be fair, the Nintendo 64 "gimmick" was that it was Nintendo's first foray in to 3D gaming AND it was the first console to have four player multiplayer built-in natively without the need for an adapter. The N64 was a TRUE multiplayer machine (& my first home console growing up as I only had a Game Gear and a Game Boy up to that point) and it holds a special place in my heart for that reason. The GameCube's "gimmick" was that it ditched cartridges in favour of a proprietary mini-DVD system. Still loved the system and I will defend Starfox Adventures with my dying breath.
@SailorDonut @Pokefanmum82 Wound up playing a lot this past weekend and now I'm hooked so I took advantage of the 25% off sale Fae Farm currently has on the Canadian eShop, and used another $20 worth of Gold Coins to knock the price down even further! Can't wait to continue building out my farm!
Thanks to the Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial for Fae Farm, I downloaded the game to continue playing my save file with the 25% discount it currently has as part of this sale on the Canadian eShop. I also used up some Gold Coins to knock another $20 off. It was quite the steal and the game is a lot of fun....especially with such a huge discount!
@SailorDonut In addition, I see the Nintendo Canada website says the game is 25% off on the eShop between now and December 3rd, in addition to the NSO Game Trial!
@Pokefanmum82 This website doesn't believe Canada exists (when they do lump us in to pre-order articles, all the links are for US retailers anyway) despite us remaining loyal to the Crown.
Completely forgot this Splatfest was even a thing. I was too busy playing Hogwarts Legacy and Super Mario RPG. Splatfests and Splatoon 3 in general just haven't been that fun to me, Splatoon 2 was perfect and had the weapons I truly had a blast with. Splatoon 3 is just......there.......I guess. If there's a 4th, I doubt I'll buy it.
Honestly I think the only "remake" it needed was the enhanced port it got on 3DS. I loved that version and played it from start to finish with the 3D slider turned on! But there's also something incredibly charming about playing the original cartridge on N64....but also the game through the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass and the N64 wireless controller (if you can find one) with the original graphics intact. It's a part of video game history and I feel like that is the version that should be preserved. There's something truly incredible about appreciating a work of art (and video games ARE ART) as they originally were and preserving that for future generations to enjoy.
Bummer it's not available for North America. Hopefully soon because Fae Farm is a game I'd love to try out, I'm just not 100% sold on it at $79.99+tax CDN. Especially since I've been burned by pretty much every Story of Seasons game that's been released on Switch thus far & Stardew Valley is still the gold standard of the genre.
This doesn't even include the list of great 3rd party games either that are coming or just released. Just started Star Ocean The Second Story R and have been enjoying it a lot. Plus I still need to at some point pick up Fae Farm, given Sun Haven will never see the light of day on Switch I think.
@Dm9982 I just want Nintendo to seriously double-down on NSO releases across all the consoles it currently has. Even the N64 still has a bunch of 1st party games Nintendo could easily bring to the service, let alone the hundreds left open to them on NES, SNES, GB, and GBA...and even Genesis if Sega allows more.
Kind of a bummer there are no collector's editions for this remake and the only preorder bonus I could find in Canada was at GS stores and it's just a set of buttons that anybody could make with a button-maker and colour printer. That said I still love the game, I played it all the time growing up on the SNES & again when I got myself a SNES Classic a few years ago. I'm still getting this game but I will be wrapping it up and putting it under the Christmas tree for my spouse (& I'll play it as well obviously).
Honestly at this point, a download code for this game is better than the physical game card. Especially since the game is so old now, there's no way a physical game card even in this repackaged set would have My Nintendo gold coins. At least with a digital code you'll still get gold coins and a pair of joy con to boot. That said, this is the weaker of the two Switch focused Mario Parties and even then, I'd say just go with the N64 originals on Switch Online.
@daveMcFlave I feel you on Super Mario RPG. I LOVED that game growing up but I played it to death on the SNES (and I re-played it pretty recently on my SNES Classic). I will be getting the remake but not day 1 and likely will get it digitally because I'm not too keen on the box art (I much preferred the North American SNES box for Legend of the Seven Stars over the all-white background).
I remember playing this game a little bit at my friend's house growing up because he had a PS1 (I had the N64). Seeing the review here and catching that some retailers are doing a preorder bonus, I've decided to put down a pre-order. I love futuristic sci-fi RPGs so maybe this will scratch that itch!
I'll absolutely NEVER play this app. For starters, it'll absolutely destroy your smartphone's battery health if you have to leave your phone plugged in with the screen ON all night long. It's also been cited as a possible fire hazard by New York's fire department because on top of all that, you have to leave your phone on your bed which is frankly a heat conductor and could cause sparks. It's the Samsung Galaxy 7 all over again, just not on a plane this time. Or you can spend $70+ CDN on a Plus+ device just to use a sleep tracking app (with Pokemon Go compatibility to be fair) that frankly is done better by literally everybody else who's done a sleep tracking app (if you have a smartwatch & sleep data is that important to you....use that).
One of my favourite games growing up and I can't wait for my nieces and nephews who finally have their own Switch systems to play this! Also really hope they announce a collector's physical edition for preorder soon!
I'm really excited for a remake for Super Mario RPG. It was one of my favourite games growing up. I can't wait to share that game with my nieces and nephews who are finally old enough to have their own Switch systems! Really hope the remake gets a collector's physical edition to preorder! And of course new 2D Super Mario Bros! And Fae Farm just looks amazing, it's everything I was hoping Sun Haven would be (and it's actually got a release date unlike Sun Haven which is just sitting in limbo with no updates from the developer at all but they still advertise on social media it's coming to Switch).
I'm still kicking myself for not grabbing Harvest Moon 64 before the Wii U eShop was taken offline. I really hope now that NSO has the SNES original game that maybe Nintendo will see fit to bring Harvest Moon 64 to western NSO subscribers soon, and/or the Game Boy Color & Game Boy Advance titles as well!
@Martijn87 Because the point of Link is to be the player's avatar in this world. The devlopers have said this time after time, that is why he isn't voliced. Every player is meant to se themselves as Link. Frankly I agree, and I think Nintendo has done a great job with Zelda stories, including BOTW & what little I've sunk in to TOTK. I don't get the hate. There's other games offering fully voiced characters if that's what you're looking for. Not all games need to be the same, nor should they. I love that Zelda games do their own thing. Nobody is forcing you to play them.
FINALLY I was on a winning team! Congrats to Team Power!!!! And respect to Wisdom & Courage, you all fought valiantly. I'm so happy it was a clean sweep though! Judging by some of the more recent comments here, there's a lot of salty hate towards the victors. Oh well
Remote Raiding was what actually rekindled my interest and ability to play Pokemon GO. Most of Niantic's userbase aren't actually kids, they're us late 20-somethings, 30-somethings, and even 40-somethings who grew up with Pokemon in the 1990s and who actually work for a living now. It was way easier if a friend across town had a legendary raid pop up, and we all managed to find a few minutes to coordinate on our messaging apps to start the raid and attempt to get that elusive shiny. I would argue the vast majority of us do not have the time to drop what we're doing and go drive/take transit to go to that raid at a moment's notice or to even roam around on our time off, not with life's other various responsibilities getting in the way. To raise the prices of and put a daily cap on the use of Remote Raids was adding insult to injury. I think Niantic has really miscalculated just how much Remote Raiding was a positive to their bottom-line and not the hinderance they seem to claim to justify their actions.
I know it'll never happen but I really want an HD Remaster of Rogue Squadron on Switch (or at the very least, put the N64 version up on Nintendo Switch Online along with Shadows of the Empire)!
The first home console I got to own as a kid was the N64 and my first time wielding the Master Sword (and first Zelda game) was Ocarina of Time. That game spawned my deep love and appreciation of the series that has continued on well in to my 30s! I didn't get to play A Link To The Past until years later when the game was released on the Wii Virtual Console.
The hype is definitely overtaking me right now, can't wait for this despite having just started BOTW for the 5th time again. HAHA. I love that it seems to be just more of what we loved about the previous game, just more refined and expanded! So happy to have the Collector's Edition preordered & waiting for my TOTK OLED to ship out!
My only complaint is the voice acting. It all seems a bit dull that doesn't quite match the overall energy of Advance Wars (that said I haven't started AW2 yet so maybe it improves). I've loved this series since the GBA so I've had the voices in my head for decades now so it's likely just an expectations thing with me. Otherwise I love the care put in to this & I hope this series does make a full comeback with new entries. I love Fire Emblem but I think now that Engage is out, Nintendo & Intelligent Systems need to let that series take the backseat so Advance wars can have a true resurgence!
In Canada, just tried to collect my Gold Coins for the game and I've received Error Code 2016-0406 "You cannot earn Ny Nintendo points for this software." - WOW sometimes Nintendo just really doesn't think logically about their decisions. Yeah these carts were likely produced a year ago and now no longer eligible for Gold Coins.
I went out and picked up my preorder from GameStop Canada as soon as they opened this morning. I wanted to make sure the cartridge was in my hands before Nintendo would last-minute change their minds and once again postpone/cancel release of the game. Advance Wars 1 & 2 were some of my favourite GBA cartridges growing up and it still bums me out that I have misplaced those originals in one of the many moves I've done over the years. So I'm glad to finally have the games again, on Switch, in a fancy new box for my shelf & hopefully the game sells well enough for Nintendo and Intelligent Systems to give this series a brand new entry (yes remakes of Dual Strike & Days of Ruin would be cool, but I want to see this game get new entries and the same love that Fire Emblem gets with their nearly bi-annual releases).
All of those North America links are for the U.S. divisions of those retailers only. This continent has THREE countries NintendoLife. Hell, one of your staff lives in Canada. Do better. Post Canadian links in your article or at the very least just say U.S. when posting links because your North America section is utterly USELESS to your Canadian and Mexican readers.
Not the best move while inflation is running rampant but I guess at least this is purely optional and no content will get locked behind a paywall.....for now, hope that doesn't change. Since this site doesn't actually recognize Canada as a separate country when talking about North America (despite us sharing the SAME monarch as Head of State and being in the Commonwealth together) and your Codes Shop doesn't work on Canadian digital store fronts, I see no reason to add yet another subscription to my monthly bills but I guess kudos to those [Americans] you favour who'll get to take full advantage of your incentives. For now I'll keep browsing your sites without an ad blocker so you still get that support at least.
I've been burned too many times with Kickstarter so while I love this genre, I won't be supporting it. Hope it does get made and released for the Switch but yeah I just won't ever partake in Kickstarter or BackerKit ever again. Also I'm gonna support the new Advance Wars reboot because I really want Nintendo to make a new game in the series (also Fire Emblem really needs a break....Engage has been fun and all but the series is showing that it can't really do those big emotional scenes with such stilted and stiff animation....the series needs a break so they can work on something that's truly fleshed out and fully realized with the cutscenes to convey the emotion and pathos they're attempting - and a perfect way to give Fire Emblem time to breathe is for the developer to focus on a new campy Advance Wars game)!
I actually wanted Mario Golf but not at full MSRP. It doesn't seem to ever go on sale but now I see it is and usually the US eShop and Canadian eShops run sales at the same time but I just checked and Mario Golf is STILL $79.99 CDN full MSRP. Ridiculous. Guess I'll go back to my original plan and get a set of Switch Online Vouchers to get Golf & pre-order Advance Wars 1+2 and save about $26 that way instead.

Re: Random: Oops! Nintendo's Doug Bowser Makes Amusing Zelda Typo On Twitter
I mean my autocorrect keyboard comes up with some pretty out-there results whenever I type normal words so I could see this being A.I. running amok.
Re: Splatoon 3's Zelda-Themed Splatfest Won By Team Power
FINALLY I was on a winning team! Congrats to Team Power!!!! And respect to Wisdom & Courage, you all fought valiantly. I'm so happy it was a clean sweep though! Judging by some of the more recent comments here, there's a lot of salty hate towards the victors. Oh well
Re: Pokémon GO Developer Says Reports Of Monthly Earnings At Five-Year Low Are "Incorrect"
Re: Best Star Wars Video Games - Every Star Wars Game On Nintendo Systems Ranked
I know it'll never happen but I really want an HD Remaster of Rogue Squadron on Switch (or at the very least, put the N64 version up on Nintendo Switch Online along with Shadows of the Empire)!
Re: Random: Nintendo's New Zelda Video Asks "When Did You First Wield The Master Sword?"
Re: Round Up: The Previews Are In For The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom
The hype is definitely overtaking me right now, can't wait for this despite having just started BOTW for the 5th time again. HAHA. I love that it seems to be just more of what we loved about the previous game, just more refined and expanded! So happy to have the Collector's Edition preordered & waiting for my TOTK OLED to ship out!
Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp?
My only complaint is the voice acting. It all seems a bit dull that doesn't quite match the overall energy of Advance Wars (that said I haven't started AW2 yet so maybe it improves). I've loved this series since the GBA so I've had the voices in my head for decades now so it's likely just an expectations thing with me. Otherwise I love the care put in to this & I hope this series does make a full comeback with new entries. I love Fire Emblem but I think now that Engage is out, Nintendo & Intelligent Systems need to let that series take the backseat so Advance wars can have a true resurgence!
Re: Some Advance Wars Physical Owners Are Having Trouble Redeeming Gold Points
In Canada, just tried to collect my Gold Coins for the game and I've received Error Code 2016-0406 "You cannot earn Ny Nintendo points for this software." - WOW sometimes Nintendo just really doesn't think logically about their decisions. Yeah these carts were likely produced a year ago and now no longer eligible for Gold Coins.
Re: Poll: Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp Is Out Today, Will You Be Getting it?
Re: Where To Buy Zelda Tears Of The Kingdom Switch OLED Console And Pro Controller
Re: Site News: Love What We Do? Become A Nintendo Life Supporter!
Re: Sonic Origins Plus Reportedly Out In June, Adds Amy Rose And 12 Game Gear Games
Anybody know if the Sonic Origins game is compatible with the Genesis controller from Switch Online?
Re: Warside Blasts Onto Kickstarter With Advance Wars-Inspired Turn-Based Tactics
Re: Deals: Nintendo's MAR10 Day Sale Discounts Top Mario Games By Up To 40% (US)
I actually wanted Mario Golf but not at full MSRP.
