There is absolutely nothing wrong with system exclusives. I feel like XBox and PS gamers are all like, no you can't have this and if you want to play it then buy the system. But the moment it's a Nintendo exclusive, the same people are all crying that it's not coming to other systems and boo Nintendo for not playing nice with others. Screw that. You want to play Bayonetta, buy a Switch. Simple as that. Without Nintendo, Bayonetta 2 or 3 wouldn't exist so I hope Nintendo holds firm saying the Umbra Witch is exclusive to Mario's house!!
Using my last remaining Nintendo Switch Online game voucher to get this. But since Nintendo is still iffy on the whole transfer thing, I'm not going to download the game with my voucher until I have my Animal Crossing Limited Edition Switch picked up from the store and I've done my system transfer. Then I'll pre-download the game (because the system releases one week before the game does in Canada).
@cgpwns I think the West isn't mentioned yet because our release date (in Canada at least) is March 13, one week before the game releases. In Europe I think it launches the same day as the game because they have a download code with their systems. Japan was getting the system a month early, sometime in February. That's likely why they're affected. But I wouldn't be surprised if a delay is announced for other regions if the virus continues to worsen.
Nintendo really needs to sort out the system transfer issue with Animal Crossing New Horizons then before the game releases. Lots of us are trading in our current Switch systems for the new ACNH model. If we don't get our systems on time, then we definitely can't play the game. Obviously peoples health and safety are PARAMOUNT but I feel like this is a problem Nintendo has caused for itself by its weird policy on no system transfer for this game only.
Couldn't agree more with this soapbox! I really hope Nintendo figures things out. I had a launch Switch that ended up breaking, the screen died on it. I had to get it replaced and do a system transfer. If that had happened after Animal Crossing had launched, I would have lost all the hours of gameplay I had sunk in to it, through no fault of my own (it was a hardware defect after all...not something caused by me). There needs to be a way to rescue the data in the event a Switch has to be replaced, or even if someone wants to upgrade their Switch. I'll definitely be waiting until I take delivery of my new Animal Crossing Switch system when it launches on March 13 in Canada before I pre-download off the eShop (not that I can do that now anyway as the NA eShop doesn't have pre-download ability for ACNH yet) just to be safe. I'll do my system transfer first, then pre-download the game if the eShop allows me.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, cloud based gaming won't be the big all-end all that these companies are touting it as. Infrastructure isn't there yet. There's so many countries that don't have the high-speed internet that's required. Heck, Canada has some of the fastest internet in the world in our urban areas, but 95% of our landmass is northern, remote, and rural. Even America has crap internet speeds depending on which county you live in. Until there's some kind of universal coverage for the whole globe that is reasonably affordable, nothing will come close to the reliability of physical disc/cartridge media or digital downloads on a hard drive. Not to mention but when tornadoes and hurricanes and other global warming type events knock out the locations of these cloud servers, that means your super expensive cloud based gaming console is nothing more than an overpriced paper weight.
You know what, I'll stick with my Apple Watch Series 5 thanks. I can make a variety of gaming watch faces & it's actually a hell of a lot cheaper than this. It's a nice watch, don't get me wrong. But not worth $2,500. LOL.
You can cross all the fingers you want, but this is typical Nintendo that only ever do things like this in Japan. Case in point, the Pokemon Let's Go Joy Con.
That's a bummer about digital only. Both my hubby & I were interested in playing this and we like to buy our 3rd party games on Switch whenever possible to help add to the stats that there's an appetite for such games on Nintendo hardware. And we would have shared the game card but being digital only, I guess we could still buy it but won't be day 1 for us. Will wait for a sale on the eShop, and also March is already going to be busy with Animal Crossing.
I'm logged in with my valid Nintendo Network ID linked to my Nintendo Switch Online account and there's still just the standard "Out of stock, check back in January 2020 for additional information." Well it's the second-last day of the bloody month and there's no new info and no "Add to Cart" button. Geez. *EDIT I should say I'm on the Canadian shop so this must be yet another example of Nintendo Life not realizing that North America is THREE BLOODY COUNTRIES because this might only be available in the U.S.
@peanutbuttercup Same! I was just about to post that Canada likely won't receive anything because we never do. I think I'll just be redeeming my final Nintendo Switch Online voucher for this game anyway. But it would have been nice for Nintendo to actually acknowledge us with something.
I think we can do without another Pokemon game this year. Unless it's Let's Go Johto. Sorry but I do want that! But if it doesn't come, I'm fine taking a year off Pokemon, the Sword/Shield expansion pass will be more than enough for that series right now. I'd love to see Breath of the Wild 2 and agree, it would be the perfect game to keep Nintendo in the news as the PS5 & new Xbox get released.
Doesn't look like it'll be an option given the diagram above, but I wish the Pokemon GO feature allowed us to upload and download Pokemon but it looks like it's just upload, same as the Let's Go games and Pokemon Bank. Kind of sucks that only Sword and Shield allow two-way Pokemon storage.
Can't hurt to try! I'm just legit surprised that Nintendo Life actually acknowledged the existence of countries other than the United States in an article mentioning North America. Even though Canada is a Commonwealth country and Queen Elizabeth is our sovereign and you know, we stood by the British Empire while traitorous Americans rebelled, Nintendo Life probably couldn't find Canada on a map if it tried. @dartmonkey
I love Fire Emblem but I feel like this was the lazy creative choice. The Fire Emblem series is already way over-represented in Smash & again I love Fire Emblem but I could go for a few years of Intelligent Systems focusing on something like Advance Wars over putting out another one. Anyway back to Smash, I would have preferred either another 3rd party character or something so obscure from Nintendo's own vault. They have a vast legacy of characters and it could have been something really fun. I'm sure I'll grow to love Byleth in Smash just like I have in Three Houses but these DLC characters are a chance for Sakurai and the Smash team to experiment and get funky, kind of wish they had gone a bit more out of the box than this.
@Silly_G Seriously, smart phones from the last 5 years have better cameras than whatever this leaker was using. This looks like one of those spy cameras you could get when you send away 2 proofs of purchase from your favourite cereal box.
Dragon Quest XI S has been my first foray in to the series and I'm really happy it's on Switch. Here's hoping that Dragon Quest XII will come out on the Switch at the same time as other consoles!
Both my husband & I want to pick up this game & we would have over the holidays had it received a discount either physically or digitally but it's been an expensive couple of months and we couldn't justify a $79.99 +tax CDN game. So if it goes on sale, ideally physically so we can share a cartridge, then I'll definitely pick it up.
"Likely find some of these in North America." Maybe in the U.S., but Canada and Mexico (two countries that NintendoLife prefers to pretend they don't exist)? Fat chance of that happening. Canada NEVER gets pre-order goodies nowadays.
NO NO NO NO NO NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HARD PASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The infrastructure isn't there yet and on top of that, not every country has great fast unlimited internet. And some that do don't offer such things affordably. Forcing us in to a streaming-only future is BAD for consumers who don't live in Los Angeles or New York. I'm Canadian, and our unlimited high speed internet is bloody expensive (because we have zero telecom competition in this country) and it's not available outside the major urban areas. Not only that, streaming requires optimal conditions to work. What if there's a major storm that knocks the internet out (hello, climate change) or there's a server failure. Well now your very expensive game system has just become a very expensive paperweight. Physical media make it possible for you to play your games to pass the time when things like this happens. Especially Nintendo Switch, with it's battery in portable/tabletop mode. In my city back in Fall 2018 we had 6 tornadoes hit on the same day that knocked out power for days. But I could at least pass the time with my Nintendo Switch and a giant portable USB battery pack. I couldn't play online but I could play offline with downloaded games & physical cartridges. If the system was limited to streaming only, it would have been useless. People don't think about that. And with climate change, power interruptions are going to happen a lot more frequently. We should never, ever, EVER go to an all-streaming future.
Well that's a bummer. This game was originally coming out around my husband's birthday and he really wanted it. Now I'm gonna have to figure something else out.
I do wish that Nintendo would hurry up and release more SNES wireless controllers on the My Nintendo website. I feel like (in Canada at least) they were available for 2 seconds and sold out for the last 4 months....soon to be 5 months since the site just says check in January for the possibility of more, it's not even confirmed that's when they're getting restocked.
I played Starfox 2 on the SNES Mini/Classic and it honestly gave me such a bad headache. But maybe that's because the controller cable is so short on that system that I had to sit too close to the television. Maybe it'll be better using the Switch & wireless controls. Also super pumped about trying Crystalis. I've wanted to play that game for a long time. Never tried the NES original or the GBC remake. Was going to buy the SNK Anniversary Collection on Switch to play the game but now I don't have to! I've heard Crystalis is a great game and the NES version is actually better than the GBC remake.
Basically content that the Wii U version had through Amiibo. I think Nintendo really missed an opportunity to include Amiibo functionality in this game, but have it be optional obviously. Those of us with large collections would be satisfied and newcomers wouldn't have felt pressured to diving in to the collecting madness.
I still don't understand where to find Gigantamax Pokemon. I go to those glowing pads looking for the Butterfree that's around right now and I never find it. I always find Pokemon I already have. Are the glowing pads the wrong place to look? Is there a way to attract the actual Gigantamax Pokemon instead of just regular Dynamax ones? And is there a way for GameFreak to stop using these ridiculous naming conventions? LOL. Ok that last question was not a real one, but I'm legit trying to figure out where to find these Mons because they never show up in my game.
I'm hoping Pokemon Home launches close to then because I have Pokemon from past generations I'd like to bring in to Sword and Shield. I also wish Nintendo would patch in the ability for Pokemon to gain EXP when put inside the PokeBall Plus. It's weird the feature was omitted when it works in Let's Go games. I really don't think it would be that complicated and would be an added bonus for people who already own the accessory, plus people have been buying them alongside Sword and Shield and I'm sure it was a rude awakening for many of us when we found out you can't gain EXP any more.
@Jimez A store like this would thrive in shopping centres/malls globally. I've said this before, I'll say it again. Nintendo has brand recognition and loyalty on par with Apple. They could expand their retail footprint and still be very successful. I don't think every city should have a Nintendo Store but I do believe large urban centres in almost every country where Nintendo already has a presence would find successful retail opportunities. In Canada for example, I know for a fact that Nintendo would have profitable stores if they set up in Toronto and Vancouver. While I wish my city, Ottawa, would get one, I doubt we'd have enough of a population to sustain a Nintendo store. But Toronto isn't that far away (5hrs by car), it wouldn't be that difficult to get there. But my point remains, stores in major urban centres across North America, Europe, and the U.K. would give a serious cash injection in to an already successful Nintendo. It's time for the company to expand beyond just New York and Tokyo (sure they're in Tel Aviv but that's a weird one. But if they can open there, they should be able to open EVERYWHERE)!
I have yet to come across one of these. How do we find them? Is there a special light coming out instead of the regular red beam? I'm confused as to how to actually find these as most of those places where Raids occur (even with the beam of light shining out) end up being empty by the time I get there.
HAHA, that is probably the funniest thing I've read in a long time. Kid got what he deserved. There's a whole generation out there now living life on the internet, and not logically thinking through consequences. He got what he deserved. Had he actually read the Terms & Conditions he probably would have made different choices. It's a life lesson for him and others.
I'm becoming a broken record, I really want Nintendo to open a store in Canada. Seriously they are one of the few companies that would make sense to enter in to the retail field. They're similar to Apple in terms of brand recognition and rabid fanbase. A global network of retail stores in major urban centres would work for them. I know in Canada, stores in Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver would be exceptionally popular and successful. Even Ottawa, as the seasonal kiosk in the Rideau Centre proved to be. I really don't understand why they haven't expanded their retail footprint. It took forever for them to open a store beyond Nintendo NY and that was in Tel Aviv....now we have Tokyo & even the Pokemon Centre London pop-up. But at this rate, we could be well in to the next century before they decide to actually open another store. Good grief.
@Thundertron55 I know most prefer physical copies but at least on 3DS, many of those hard-to-find games can be bought off the eShop. Fingers crossed Nintendo doesn't deactivate the 3DS eShop anytime soon.
If Nintendo would just do away with pop-up shops & commit to going the Apple route by opening Nintendo Stores and/or Pokemon Centres in major urban centres across the world, then this situation would be greatly reduced. Yeah there will always be scalpers but Nintendo & The Pokemon Company could cut in to the scalpers business by actually meeting the demand of their fans. And if they won't open physical stores then at least expand their online retail footprint to most countries. The Canadian online Nintendo store is a joke, mostly just sells replacement power cables & adapters....maybe the odd cool nick nack but really it's rather pathetic.
I'm good to wait. I've still got Dragon Quest XI to get through, and Luigi's Mansion 3 is incoming tomorrow, not to mention Pokemon Sword & Shield & I'm still working through Link's Awakening. I'm also hoping that I'll be getting Switcher 3 as a Christmas gift so I have more than enough to play to keep me busy.
Seems like Europe got spare steelbooks and they don't know what to do with them. Nintendo should allocate those to Canada, actually give us something special for a change.
This & Switcher 3 are on my list for getting eventually. I want to support 3rd party developers & show them there is a market for games like this on the Switch, when ported correctly and with the care and attention that Switch gamers deserve.
This is why these pop-up stores just don't work. In Ottawa, we got a Nintendo pop-up kiosk in the Rideau Centre. First of all, had no idea that was even there, no PR about it at all. And just found out a couple weeks ago that it was shutting down in November. When I checked it out though, they had very little stock of anything, and it was pretty much just demos for Nintendo Switch Lite. Instead of pop-ups, Nintendo should get serious about expanding their retail presence and actually build more Nintendo Stores. There are very few corporate brands nowadays that can succeed at retail but I'd argue that Nintendo is similar to Apple in that these stores would be very profitable and work in major urban centres. Do away with the pop-up model & go permanent retail with enough stock to satisfy demand.....and there will be demand.
It's still super ANNOYING when articles like this say, "if you live in North America" when this is clearly a U.S. only promotion. NintendoLife, how many times do I have to tell you. North America has THREE countries in it, the U.S is only 1 of those countries. The Pokemon Pass app doesn't exist in Canada or Mexico, so stop giving us false hope. Your British for crying out loud, Canada is part of the Commonwealth. Liz is Queen of Canada. FFS.
I had a see-through Atomic Purple Game Boy Color. It was actually my first Game Boy, and I got a copy of Pokemon Red when I got it. So I actually never played the Pokemon games on the original green screen Game Boy. I also remember loving The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons, which was my second game!

Re: Soapbox: Confounded By The Animal Crossing: New Horizons Cloud Save Situation? You're Not Alone
It's time for the company to expand beyond just New York and Tokyo (sure they're in Tel Aviv but that's a weird one. But if they can open there, they should be able to open EVERYWHERE)!
Re: The First Limited-Time Gigantamax Event In Pokémon Sword And Shield Is Now Live
I have yet to come across one of these. How do we find them? Is there a special light coming out instead of the regular red beam? I'm confused as to how to actually find these as most of those places where Raids occur (even with the beam of light shining out) end up being empty by the time I get there.

@YagaMaki AGREED!!!!
Re: The Outer Worlds Is Launching On Switch "Some Time" Before The End Of March 2020
I'm ok with waiting, definitely want this game on Switch.
Re: Dark Samus And Richter amiibo Are Headed Our Way In January
For those in Canada, Best Buy has the Incineroar, Chrom, and Simon amiibo up for pre-order now!
Re: Professional Fortnite Player Gets Banned For Life After Uploading Videos Of Himself Cheating
Re: Nintendo's New Tokyo Store Is Looking Great, Here's A New Range Of Super Mario Merch
Good grief.
Re: Nintendo Finally Hints That It Has Ditched Game Development On The 3DS
@Thundertron55 I know most prefer physical copies but at least on 3DS, many of those hard-to-find games can be bought off the eShop. Fingers crossed Nintendo doesn't deactivate the 3DS eShop anytime soon.
Re: Scalpers Strike As Demand For Pokémon Center London Merchandise Skyrockets
Re: The Outer Worlds Won't Be Released On Switch Until Next Year
I'm good to wait.
Re: You Can Now Pre-Order A Wireless Version Of The Afterglow Nintendo Switch Controller
I guess there's no rumble though, that's a shame. I think I'll just stick with my official Splatoon 2 Nintendo Switch Pro Controller.
Re: Early Digital Pokémon Sword And Shield Pre-Orders Also Include A Steelbook, For Some Reason
Seems like Europe got spare steelbooks and they don't know what to do with them. Nintendo should allocate those to Canada, actually give us something special for a change.
Re: Port Specialist Virtuos Convinced Obsidian To Bring The Outer Worlds To Switch
This & Switcher 3 are on my list for getting eventually. I want to support 3rd party developers & show them there is a market for games like this on the Switch, when ported correctly and with the care and attention that Switch gamers deserve.
Re: Pokémon Center London Goes From Bad To Worse, Products Could Sell Out Before Closure
Re: Get A Free Mewtwo For Pokémon: Let’s Go In The United States
It's still super ANNOYING when articles like this say, "if you live in North America" when this is clearly a U.S. only promotion. NintendoLife, how many times do I have to tell you. North America has THREE countries in it, the U.S is only 1 of those countries. The Pokemon Pass app doesn't exist in Canada or Mexico, so stop giving us false hope. Your British for crying out loud, Canada is part of the Commonwealth. Liz is Queen of Canada. FFS.
Re: Anniversary: The Game Boy Color Turns 21 Today
I had a see-through Atomic Purple Game Boy Color. It was actually my first Game Boy, and I got a copy of Pokemon Red when I got it. So I actually never played the Pokemon games on the original green screen Game Boy. I also remember loving The Legend of Zelda Oracle of Seasons, which was my second game!
Re: Random: Nintendo Knew You'd Get Sweaty Playing Ring Fit Adventure, Shares Washing Advice
Just wondering, would the grips and the leg strap be washable in a washing machine, along with other laundry?
