I ended up finally playing Rise with the NSO Game Trial these last few days. So much better than the pre-launch demo, I actually was able to find weapons I liked (Dual blades) & progressed through several of the 1 & 2 star hunts both solo and online. I like that my save data will carry over to the game if I do end up buying it. I can honestly see now why people enjoy it, it was fun. I might have to try and get that fancy Special Edition with the steelbook & amiibo that I think is a GameStop exclusive in North America (hopefully that includes Canada as companies tend to forget the continent is more than just the US).
Dear Nintendo...if you read the Nintendo Life forums....STOP RELEASING EUROPE-ONLY SPECIAL EDITIONS. Give gamers regardless of their regions the ability to preorder these special editions in their home countries. It actually is better for the environment and gives collectors/gamers easier access.
@Strictlystyles Had to do the same thing. Bought the special edition from the UK and hopefully it'll arrive here in Canada soon. But you think you have it bad in the U.S., Canada isn't even an afterthought to these companies.
Ok this is adding insult to injury. First the special editions are only in Europe and now the pins are only on the Euro My Nintendo stores? UGH, come on. There's fans of this game here in Canada (& I'm assuming in the U.S. too), they should make these pins GLOBAL!
I absolutely NEED this. Square Enix seems like they won't be content until they bleed my wallet dry this year. Hope it's a Christmas release so I can try and beg someone to gift it to me - Also here's hoping a special edition is announced that comes to North America so I don't have to import.....looking at you, Triangle Strategy.
The vast majority of games I buy are physical. I only buy digital if it's a first party title I have zero intention on ever wanting to sell/trade like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or Mario Odyssey (basically anything Mario). And if there's a special edition offered for a game I want, I will always try for it instead of digital. I just wish Nintendo would start showing all regions some special edition love and not just dump them all in Japan or Europe only (I'm looking at you, Triangle Strategy, Pokemon Arceus, Link's Awakening, and a slew of others that never saw a North American special edition).
Given that Canada got absolutely no bonuses for preordering, I'm just going to grab this game digitally off the eShop during one of many Square Enix sales that usually happen. I'm not in a rush to pick this up, especially at full price with none of the special edition collectible goodies available to anyone outside Europe yet again.
I'm on the Nintendo website and I do not see anything about registration. A whole lot of articles through online searches like this one indicate that you have to register, NONE of them (including this one) detail how.
This is a whole lot of buzzwords to hook ignorant investors. Seriously means nothing. But if they're able to actually build a world where I can raise Digimon for real, then fine I'll eat my words and be a happy Digimon Tamer! Everything else, I don't care about.
@EVIL-C Nintendo had an office in my hometown? How am I just learning this now? I thought the Canadian offices were simply a broom closet in Richmond, BC for tax purposes?
@Lizuka I was about to tweet to GameStop Canada asking what about our country and then realized yeah this isn't shiny and it's widely available in-game. And it's not that hard to craft Feather Balls....so I think I'll save myself the gas and stay home playing.
Absolutely no pre-order bonuses from any Canadian retailer. I'm so sick of Nintendo giving us absolutely nothing. The UK gets every kind of bonus there is, and while America still got something, even they don't seem to get anywhere near the level of preorder bonuses that Nintendo UK offers. But yeah, Nintendo doesn't even think Canada exists so we get shafted again and again.
So if I understand this correctly, you just register for each tournament and battle at least one time in each tournament. Then win or lose, you receive that tournament's shiny Pokemon? Never done one of these tournaments before and I know I'll lose hard so I just want to make sure that I can just register and battle and still receive the Pokemon because that's all I really want.
I ended up preordering the Earthmate Edition physical special pack at EB Games Canada. I didn't want to get this game digitally because I was so disappointed with Pioneers of Olive Town that I wanted to have the option to trade in Rune Factory 5 should it also not meet expectations. I am a sucker for special physical editions of games too so we'll see. I hope the game is actually good with a lot of depth. I am happy the English version will be more diverse with its marriage candidates than what the Japanese got at launch.
I think Splatoon 2 could have had a longer life had Nintendo not axed the Splatfests so soon. It's hard to sell a multiplayer game when you cut big in-game events like Splatfests that were a large driving factor for long-time players and new players alike to turn on the game. It was nice to see some return for the early stages of the pandemic but that only proves my point. They were not events that took a lot of effort by Nintendo to pull off. A small dedicated team or even just a couple of programmers could have easily run regular bi-monthly or even just quarterly Splatfests to keep the fanbase engaged. Instead they did away with them and frankly the game cartridge just sits in most of our cases without getting touched except for the odd desire to vent some COVID-19 frustrations by blasting Inklings. I hope Nintendo keeps a Salmon Run type mode for Splatoon 3 & keeps online tournaments like Splatfests going for much longer than they did for Splatoon 2.
HUGE Sonic fan here. I bought the Genesis controller for Nintendo Switch Online just so I could play Sonic 2 with a proper controller just like back in my youth! I might have to actually give in and buy Monster Hunter Rise and try to learn the controls (because I did terribly with the demo). Kind of wish this was also coming to Monster Hunter Stories 2 since that's the only MH game I currently have. Maybe MHR will go on sale for the holidays.
Doesn't bode well for the cloud versions of Kingdom Hearts incoming. Just reaffirms my position I will NOT be buying those. And definitely not buying this game either.
I wonder how many of them are like me and absolutely super disappointed with the game? It's absolute crap and I find myself going back to FOMT and Stardew Valley instead.
I still don't see why these couldn't have been optimized ports for the Switch sold on cartridge and as full eShop downloads. Cloud-based means I WON'T be buying these. The point of being able to play games like this on Switch would be to play anywhere, with or without an internet connection. If I'm forced to stay home where wifi is prominent, then I might as well boot up my PS4 discs. Also, cloud-based versions are dependent not just on your own internet connection, but whether the servers are actually running. And what if you lose power (or where the servers are located lose power)? At least with a cartridge/download version on Switch, you could still play the game in handheld mode (something the PlayStation or Xbox can't do and would have been a killer feature for Switch in this new climate change-crazy world where freak storms knock out power systems routinely) but cloud-based you have to rely not just on your own infrastructure but that of some far-off community where the servers are located. And then there's the control lag.....in a game like Kingdom Hearts when things get frantic?....NO THANK YOU!
This is ridiculously foolish given the pandemic is on the rise yet again. Nobody should be going to a store just to get a Pokemon code. Especially since these codes don't require a purchase so the store gets nothing out of it other than another possible exposure. Nintendo should just have these be a Mystery Gift digital distribution and gamers get both Shinies just by logging on between certain dates and downloading. There, simple, and no unnecessary exposures. Save going out of your home for tasks that are ACTUALLY important.
This will mean absolutely nothing in terms of getting "GameStop exclusive" promos here. EB Games already had those. And I agree with other commenters. GameStop's name has a really bad reputation all over the world. EB Games Canada kind of avoided that because it wasn't in your face that the two companies are actually the same. I actually see in Canada this backfiring on them.
I loved this game but the LGBTQ+ representation touted by Nintendo was extremely lacklustre. It was a mistake to not make all of the heads of the houses marriage candidates to the main player regardless of your gender. Instead all we got was Edelgard able to romance a female main character. At the very least, Claude should have been able to marry male Byloth. Hopefully if the series continues, Nintendo will start actually doing meaningful representation instead of just paying lip-service. Also I'm actually kind of happy Fire Emblem is taking a bit of a break so that Advance Wars can have a new lease on life this Christmas!
This game has been such a disappointment that I've just gone back to Stardew Valley. I'm really looking forward to Sun Haven if/when that finally arrives on Switch (seems like the developers have been teasing its Switch release for forever now). But Pioneers of Olive Town has just been so boring & I find it incredibly annoying how things have to be spaced out on the farm and not allowed to be placed right next to each other. It's such wasted space. And the expansion pass areas have been incredibly dull. My favourite part of the game so far has been the stuffed bull plushie I got when I bought the game.
While not a Rise specific comment, I wish Capcom would have given us the ability to scan in a Palamute amiibo in to Monster Hunter Stories 2 to receive a Palamute sent to our stables. I hate that they are locked to endgame content. Why would I try to get all the Palamutes if I can't actually use them on my team during the actual game? I don't usually like to play RPGs after the end credits roll. The games are so long as it is and I've usually moved on to another game after I'm done so these cool Palamute are just sitting in my stable at level 1 with no use. Instead it would have been nice if Capcom had included the ability to scan a Palamute amiibo for those of us who bought one to just get a standard Palamute rather than just useless stickers these Rise amiibo give in Monster Hunter Stories 2.
I think people wouldn't be getting angry if Nintendo would stop the trickle of new games and either open the floodgates or release more than 3 games per month. Maybe release 2 batches of 3 games in a month or a new game each and every week. I think Nintendo should be releasing these obscure games nobody has heard about on the service, I'm not arguing against that. It's a great way to give these games new leases on life and for video game preservation for the next generation. But Nintendo is bringing the hate on upon themselves by not releasing these obscure titles alongside the popular, first-party games like EarthBound alongside them. Especially for first-party games, Nintendo has the power to open the floodgates. They just don't want to put the effort in.
I wish Nintendo would stop being so cheap with these giveaways but still forcing us to pay shipping. Because of that, and because of the fact that Nintendo doesn't actually recognize my legal street address, I can't redeem anything from My Nintendo. And this all started after I moved last year. And their customer support continues to be useless. I know it's an issue with their billing system because I only get errors when I try to charge the shipping cost to my credit card. Every other retailer online has no problems, it's just Nintendo. And I've called my bank and they say it's not an issue with their system. I both love and hate Nintendo, they are a great and often times stupid company.
Interesting how this seems to be more of a celebrated series this year than Zelda is. I get the pandemic probably is to blame but it seems like Nintendo did pretty much absolutely no advanced planning for Zelda's anniversary.
I think I'll stick to my Digimon Vital Bracelet. It's more a workout device and I can raise Digimon while using it with a companion app on my smartphone. And battle with friends!
@Zonned Thanks for the clarification. Well if I were him, in this day in age, it’s just good business (not to mention being a decent human being) to be as inclusive and accepting as possible. But if its his choice to deny representation in his games, it is certainly my right to just not buy his game. It’s a lost sale for me and I’ll stick with Story of Seasons, Stardew Valley, and other games in this genre that choose to have options where I can more fully see myself in these types of games.
I was excited for this game but when I saw there was no inclusivity in terms of marriage candidates, I'll be spending my money elsewhere. It's strange since Story of Seasons has effectively and properly included same-sex pairings in those games but the same developers & publishers can't be bothered to bring inclusivity and acceptance to the Rune Factory series. Heck, even Friends of Mineral Town which is a remake had this added but a brand new game developed at a time when most of the Western world has fully embraced LGBTQ stories and experiences, it's a major regression to see a game like this just not bother. So if you're also concerned about that, speak with your wallets since that's the language businesses understand the most. Don't buy Rune Factory 5 (or at the very least, purchase it used so the developer sees none of the profit). There will be those who do buy it and fair enough but if you want to see better representation in gaming, don't buy this game. And lets hope Rune Factory 6 finally gets it through their heads to embrace inclusivity!
I really like my Animal Crossing Special Edition Switch system. I hope that Nintendo won't segregate their username and make games only playable on the new system because I don't really need a Switch "Pro." All the games I want to play, my existing Switch handles perfectly fine. Not everybody has 4K televisions. I hope whatever new games come out for the Switch systems will be playable on ALL models.
Got these preordered back in March, super happy about that. Also got the Loftwing amiibo pre-ordered as of yesterday! Can't wait to replay Skyward Sword, I never finished it on Wii.
I wish the developers of Pioneers of Olive Town would do the same thing. I find the days go by in that game even quicker than they do in FOMT and Stardew Valley on Switch. Would be nice.
Since Nintendo doesn't seem to recognize my new street address as legitimate since I moved to my condo, these Platinum Points have become utterly useless. Oh sure I can use them to get free physical goodies that still require a shipping fee (so yeah not free) and I keep getting errors when I try to pay even though my bank says there's no problem on their end and it's all with Nintendo. And Nintendo Customer Service is super unhelpful and won't tell me what the problem is and just gives me vague responses like "perhaps someday in the future you'll be able to order from us again." UGH. So whenever I see websites go up to earn new Platinum Points I just roll my eyes and it brings this all up all over again. Anyway I think I'll end up using Gold Coins for New Pokemon Snap and get it digitally because I want this game but there's NO WAY this is worth $90 CDN after tax.
I'm not surprised Niantic Customer Support are absolutely worthless. Not everyone can make enough noise to get their attention. They shouldn't have to, they should be treated with the same level of attention despite social media follower numbers. Niantic are terrible developers, their customer service is a piece of crap and frankly should all be fired. Zero respect for anybody who works there. I've had several ongoing issues with no resolution and I'm done being nice, and I'm done spending any real-world money on Pokemon GO ever again.
I'd say I'm a nervous but curious potential MH player. I bought the controller (mostly because I needed a new Pro Controller since my favourite Splatoon 2 Pro Controller has that annoying drift problem). But I played the demo and I used multiple different weapons and I couldn't even do the easy mission. There was absolutely NO decent tutorial or walkthrough. It threw you in to the thick of it with so many different menus and tasks to keep track of that I honestly felt like landing a fighter jet on to a moving aircraft carrier in the middle of an active combat zone would be easier than playing Monster Hunter Rise. I've been told the demos are not meant for newcomers but rather as showcases for returning veterans but that completely misses the point of a demo which is supposed to broaden the user base, not cater to the already converted. I just can't seem to bring myself to spend $90 CDN on a game that just seems impossible as a newbie to get in to. I really want to but it just doesn't seem like it's possible for someone who works full-time. Kudos to those who's first MH game was Rise & the were able to become proficient while balancing work/life struggles but I have absolutely no idea how you were able to do it.
Would have bought the special edition if it was available at a like EB Games or Best Buy or even Amazon (just something I already have an account with). Might just get the digital off the eShop. I'm sick of making accounts for all these other websites just to get physical versions of games.
@Alundra-1998 I'm in Canada, we don't have GAME so I can't speak towards them. I ordered through EB Games which is my local game store. I hope they send me the plush since the special edition of the game is now sold out. I did pre-order months ago though so I should get it.
Would it be a licensing issue? Or is it "difficult" because the 3DS game relied heavily on the touch screen for gameplay and any Switch game would require either all-button gameplay or a mix of button for docked and touch for portable? I mean there's ways around this and it's not set in stone that any Kid Icarus Uprising sequel would need to follow the 3DS' control scheme at all. And Sakurai doesn't even need to be the one who develops it. Kid Icarus, F-Zero, Starfox...all these series are some of my absolute favourites and frankly I'm getting sick of the excuses from execs at Nintendo and their 2nd party partners saying it's "difficult" to offer any additional games in those series.
Useless for me since my annual Family plan doesn't expire until September. Guess that's what I get for signing up for the service on day 1 back when it launched.

Re: Rune Factory 5's Local Switch Release Arrives "Early" In 2022
I was excited for this game but when I saw there was no inclusivity in terms of marriage candidates, I'll be spending my money elsewhere.
Re: Square Enix Is Releasing A Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake For Home Consoles
Definitely will buy this if it comes to the Switch. Fingers crossed it does!
Re: Rumour: Nintendo Switch 'Pro' Reveal Expected Before E3, Out This Year
I really like my Animal Crossing Special Edition Switch system.
Re: Where To Pre-Order The Limited Edition Zelda: Skyward Sword Joy-Con
Got these preordered back in March, super happy about that. Also got the Loftwing amiibo pre-ordered as of yesterday! Can't wait to replay Skyward Sword, I never finished it on Wii.
Re: You Can Now Get A Platinum And Gold Point Coin Pin Set From My Nintendo (US)
Ohh goodie, another interesting set of items that I won't be able to order from Nintendo because they don't recognize my new address.
Re: Harvest Moon: One World Update Promises Longer Days And More Time With Your Animals
I wish the developers of Pioneers of Olive Town would do the same thing. I find the days go by in that game even quicker than they do in FOMT and Stardew Valley on Switch. Would be nice.
Re: New Pokémon Snap Interactive Website Offers A Sneak Peek At The Game And Digital Rewards
Re: It Appears Pokémon GO Is Falsely Banning iPhone Users Again
I'm not surprised Niantic Customer Support are absolutely worthless. Not everyone can make enough noise to get their attention. They shouldn't have to, they should be treated with the same level of attention despite social media follower numbers. Niantic are terrible developers, their customer service is a piece of crap and frankly should all be fired. Zero respect for anybody who works there. I've had several ongoing issues with no resolution and I'm done being nice, and I'm done spending any real-world money on Pokemon GO ever again.
Re: New Pokémon Snap Gets Its Very Own Custom Twitter Emoji
I think it's hilarious this article is meant to show off the emoji but looking at it, there's no emoji. At least in what's shown off here.
Re: Soapbox: After 17 Years, Monster Hunter Rise Finally Made Me Kind Of Competent
Re: Alex Kidd in Miracle World DX Lands In June, Along With An Awesome Signature Edition
Would have bought the special edition if it was available at a like EB Games or Best Buy or even Amazon (just something I already have an account with). Might just get the digital off the eShop. I'm sick of making accounts for all these other websites just to get physical versions of games.
Re: Story Of Seasons: Pioneers Of Olive Town Is Getting Patched, A Lot
@Alundra-1998 I'm in Canada, we don't have GAME so I can't speak towards them. I ordered through EB Games which is my local game store. I hope they send me the plush since the special edition of the game is now sold out. I did pre-order months ago though so I should get it.
Re: A Kid Icarus: Uprising Sequel Would Be "Difficult", Says Masahiro Sakurai
Re: Nintendo's Offering 10% Gold Coin Rewards for Switch Online Subscriptions
Useless for me since my annual Family plan doesn't expire until September. Guess that's what I get for signing up for the service on day 1 back when it launched.
