Re: Sorry Nintendo, But The 3DS Really Is Dead Now

DarthFoxMcCloud

It might not be selling but those that have them are still playing them. I see them on the bus all the time. And every time I go to a Comic Con or some big event like that I see people with their 3DS' playing games and collecting StreetPass tags. I still think Nintendo should release a firmware update that brings StreetPass functionality to the Switch, especially now that the Switch Lite is a thing. But all Switch systems should get this. The device itself is portable enough and I know the fans miss this. Wouldn't require any hardware revisions, it's purely a matter of software and Nintendo's willingness to provide.

Re: UK Charts: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Gets Number One, Almost Doubles Awakening's Launch Sales

DarthFoxMcCloud

Picked up my special edition pack for Fire Emblem! At the time I was super excited to have secured a pre-order and now that I have it I'm very impressed with just how good it is. I'm also incredibly surprised Nintendo even bothered to release a special edition here in North America, given that they seem to only shower Europe and Japan with love these days. So far, addicted to the game and loving the story.

Re: Soapbox: Sorry Nintendo, Joy-Con Drift Means I Won't Buy Switch Lite At Launch

DarthFoxMcCloud

Definitely not getting one but it's not because of Joy Con drift. I simply don't have a good enough reason to want the Switch Lite when the regular Switch works great as the hybrid device the Nintendo Switch WAS ALWAYS MEANT TO BE. The Switch was never meant to be a 100% portable or a 100% console system. It was always meant to be hybrid. That said, I'm worried that the new Neon Purple/Neon Orange Joy Con coming in October (that just went on Amazon Canada for pre-order) will also inevitably break. I've only ever had 1 set of Joy Con ever that didn't break on me, and it was a set my hubby got me from an Etsy seller who re-shelled a grey pair of Joy Con with transparent orange shell to make it look like those transparent N64s from back in the day. It's the only pair that I haven't had a single issue with, and they're not even "Nintendo Official" albeit the parts inside are genuine Joy Con parts.

Re: Nintendo Releases Statement About Switch Joy-Con Drift Issue

DarthFoxMcCloud

My Splatoon themed joy con got the drift issue after their warranty expired so I never bothered to fix them. Now the replacement Joy Con I got when I had to exchange my Switch for a faulty screen have also decided to no longer work. The left stick either drifts on its own or sometimes no movement registers and my character on screen does nothing (this happened during the last Splatfest when I was playing at a friend's house and forgot my Pro Controller at home). So now I have to play solely with the Pro Controller. I don't trust the Joy Con.

Re: Doug Bowser Says Nintendo Is "Closely Watching" Streaming Technologies

DarthFoxMcCloud

@Alucard83 The problem with that is Nintendo is not an Internet Service Provider. In Canada, that's Rogers, Bell, and Telus. I don't know about other countries but good luck convincing any telecom to give you anything for free. That's why I argued that we SHOULD NOT have a streaming-only future. I prefer physical games with the choice of digital downloads for those who want...but NEVER streaming.

Re: Splatoon Producer Hasn't Thought About The Future Of The Series Just Yet

DarthFoxMcCloud

Another reason why the team should not have abandoned Splatfests. Go to bi-monthly or quarterly and recycle Shifty Station stages from older Splatfests to cut down on development resources but to outright cancel was shortsighted and wrong. Sure the first game on Wii U had a similar fate but that system was dying after its first year and Splatoon on that system, while popular, never reached the user-base that Splatoon 2 has. I would be more forgiving if I knew Splatoon 3 was incoming but if development hasn't even started now, then we are looking at several years before a new one releases. And even then, it's likely not coming out until the Switch's true next-gen successor. There's not a whole lot you can do to improve the game past Splatoon 2. The whole point of the game really is online multiplayer, with the offline single-player as more a bonus than a true equal mode. And Splatfests have a tendency to increase the game's online traffic and was a good justification for keeping Nintendo Switch Online. Nintendo should have handed off the Splatfest management to a small, dedicated team. Really all that needed to happen was some dialogue drafting. Otherwise Splatfests pretty much take care of themselves. Again switching to bi-monthly or quarterly instead of monthly would have freed up Nintendo developers to work on other projects (like ACNH) but they would also keep the Splatoon community happy and engaged. For now, it feels like a slap in the face to the fans for no good justifiable reason. End rant.

Re: Doug Bowser Says Nintendo Is "Closely Watching" Streaming Technologies

DarthFoxMcCloud

I hope this is NOT the future of gaming. Internet speeds and availability are not uniform across the globe. Heck, they're not uniform across a country or even a city. Speeds and bandwidth vary from region to region and company to company. This would leave a lot of gamers out if the industry switches to this model. And don't get me started on the impact of climate change. Storms cause power outages or worse, full-on destruction. All it takes is a few servers to go down and boom, no more gaming. Or you're at the whim of a power outage if you're able to play or not. Sure home consoles are already impacted by power outages, but systems like the Switch circumvent that by offering an internal battery (and the ability to connect an external one) for handheld/portable use. Imagine in a power outage due to intense storms and to pass the time you wanted to play some Xenoblade or have a local Mario Kart match going....well you can't in an all-streaming future. Give me my games on cart and as digital download, that is the best future and it gives the user a choice and offers some means of circumventing power outages, server disruptions, and inadequate internet providers.

Re: Preorder Luigi's Mansion 3 And Grab A Ghoulish Glow In The Dark Steelbook

DarthFoxMcCloud

I'm getting real sick and tired of Nintendo continuously ignoring North America (specifically Canada) with their steelbooks and special editions. Frankly I hope this one doesn't go to Europe because you all got the Pokemon Steelbook, the Link's Awakening Steelbook, the Mario Maker 2 steelbook, etc. Plus your special editions have been incredible while in North America, we're lucky to get an art book for the same price as the cool special editions and available 2 per retailer. UGH

Re: Video: We've Been Playing Fire Emblem: Three Houses And Now We're Excited For More

DarthFoxMcCloud

Great video! I'm definitely thinking of leaning towards the Blue Lions, but that just might be the Ravenclaw in me, HAHA. I like the colour scheme. I hope that the game has same-sex marriage in it like Fire Emblem Fates did. But I hope that it's more than just 1 specific same-sex character. Don't get me wrong, I LOVED Niles but I'm hoping if Nintendo did bring this feature back, that there are more than 1 character that we can enter in to a same-sex marriage with.

Re: Nintendo Has "No Plans" To Add Switch Lite's D-Pad To Future Joy-Con

DarthFoxMcCloud

@Dirty0814 Actually I don't think saves will be swap-able between devices in the way I was referring to. Yes you can transfer your Nintendo Account over but it can only be on one Switch at a time. What I was referring to and what an earlier article on NintendoLife was talking about is the ability to play through a game like Breath of the Wild on your Switch connected to your tv and then you have to leave so you put that Switch to sleep and then pick up the Switch Lite and immediately carry on from where you left off (without having to go through the time-consuming process of moving your Nintendo Account).

Re: Nintendo Has "No Plans" To Add Switch Lite's D-Pad To Future Joy-Con

DarthFoxMcCloud

I've said this on several pages on this site but if you want a D-Pad and you already own the standard Switch, then buy a Pro Controller or buy a Hori 3rd party Joy Con. Way cheaper than shelling out for an additional system that won't even have shared save files as a Day 1 feature (as pointed out by another article posted here today). If you have a family and are looking at adding a cheaper additional Switch, sure buy a Lite. But if it's just you and you've been itching for a D-Pad, there are cheaper options than buying a second Switch.

Re: Soapbox: The Nintendo Switch Lite Has The One Thing I've Been Waiting For All This Time

DarthFoxMcCloud

Solely buying a Switch Lite for a D-Pad is kind of a stupid reason to buy the system, especially if you already have the regular Switch. For starters, all Pro Controllers come with a D-Pad on them and it's cheaper than buying a whole new system. And as the Soapbox already says, there's 3rd parties that make D-Pad Joy Con. Now if you're buying this to have a second, cheaper Switch in the household for a family, then buying one of these makes sense. Or for those who don't own a Switch and have no intention of wanting to play in Docked or Table Top mode, then sure. And for those who are trying to emulate the characteristics of a 2DS, sure. But to just pick one of these up in addition to owning a regular Switch because the Lite has an integrated D-Pad....there are better, more financially responsible things to do with your money.

Re: Nintendo Switch Lite Officially Revealed, Launches This September

DarthFoxMcCloud

Not interested but this is also not geared towards me. This is the Switch version of a 2DS meant to be cheaper for parents to buy for kids who might not be ready for the standard model with its small parts and expensive price tag. This satisfies those who fall in to this but no longer want or play a 2DS. They get to play their Switch games they've been wanting. But for me this also goes against the original mission statement of the Switch, which was supposed to unify the handheld and tv console business of Nintendo. The hybrid system really is the best of both worlds and I like having the choice on where and when I play my games. But again this isn't designed for someone like me. Now call me when the Switch Pro releases and I'll surely purchase that! Something that I know won't be totally in-line with the PS4 Pro or Xbox One X but something close which could run more graphically intense 3rd party games and be a bit more future-proofed. I'm sure something like that will be coming sooner rather than later. For now I'll stick with my good ol' standard Switch!

Re: Nintendo Is Actively Investigating 5G Technology

DarthFoxMcCloud

@duffmmann Exactly. While having mobile data on something like the iPad makes sense, it doesn't for something like the Switch. The iPad is more than a multimedia device, it's a computer alternative meant for work and personal use. The Switch is purely a gaming platform that doesn't need constant internet access. Unless they start by reviving things like Miiverse, bring out Netflix, and maybe some kind of online StreetPass, 5G on the Switch in its current form is just cost overkill. What I'd prefer is for Nintendo to implement a user-accessible web browser which would allow us to connect to public wifi hotspots like those in Starbucks and other restaurants that require you to click on an "Accept" button through a browser before accessing their wifi. That I think would be better for the Switch than throwing in an expensive 5G chipset.

Re: Orange Island Is A New 8-Bit Adventure RPG Eyeing Up NES And Switch Releases

DarthFoxMcCloud

Looks cool and if it arrives on Switch, I'll probably download it. But I'm not going to back it. I backed a game called Indivisible several years ago at this point from BackerKit and it still hasn't released. Haven't received any updates on when it'll be released despite seeing gameplay video and character design that looks pretty much finished. None of their emails make it clear when the ETA for the game is. So I'm not going to ever back these kinds of games ever again. I feel like Indivisible developers took my money and ran with it.

Re: Fire Emblem: Three Houses Expansion Pass Detailed, Now Available To Pre-Purchase

DarthFoxMcCloud

This is nothing new, pretty much every modern FE release has had an Expansion Pass. It's one of the series that I actually do buy it because the additional content is worth it. That said, I feel like Nintendo should have bundled the Expansion Pass as part of the Limited Edition. I preordered that and it was pretty expensive, would have been nice to have thrown the Expansion Pass in with that for the avid fans!

Re: Nintendo Opens Technical Support Twitter Account In Japan

DarthFoxMcCloud

Nintendo's current Twitter accounts aren't that much social either. Nintendo Canada and Nintendo America do not respond to comments or inquiries. There's not even a corporate talking points response to questions. I don't think anybody at Nintendo actually reads those comments, they simply use their social media feeds to just post advertisements and that's about it.

Re: Video: Nintendo Kicks Off Its Fire Emblem: Three Houses Coverage With The Black Eagles

DarthFoxMcCloud

Can't wait for this game, 3 weeks is a long time to wait. HAHA. I don't know which house I'm going to choose, guess I'll wait for the other leaders' videos before making my decision. I have the special edition preordered though!! I just hope that Nintendo and Intelligent Systems takes a little break in the FE series though after this. I'm such a fan but it's been very over-saturated in recent years. I would love it if they took a few years off Fire Emblem and instead brought out a new proper Advance Wars series as their next AAA title, ideally for Nintendo Switch!

Re: Get Your Hands On Real-Life Splatoon 2 T-Shirts And Posters To Celebrate The Final Splatfest

DarthFoxMcCloud

Ok, Europe is never allowed to complain again when it comes to Nintendo. They have the best My Nintendo program outside of Japan, they're getting the best limited edition of games (Pokemon Sword and Shield, Link's Awakening), meanwhile Canada is getting ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Heck, not even the U.S. is getting cool collectibles. Nintendo & their partner companies must seriously hate money.

Re: Nintendo, Sony And Microsoft Band Together To Fight Tariffs On Video Game Consoles

DarthFoxMcCloud

These companies can band together to fight the tariffs....or they can stop building in China. I'm a staunch supporter of all companies finding alternative locations to make their products. China is terrible when it comes to labour rights and protections. Yeah it's because they're super cheap and lax with their laws so companies make higher profits there but we as a species need to do better. Pull manufacturing completely from China and build in countries that actually respect workers rights & the international rules-based order and therefore companies will avoid the tariffs and teach China they can't bully the international community. Signed - a pissed off Canadian.

Re: Nintendo Acknowledges Switch Mini Rumours, Says It Is "Always" Developing New Hardware

DarthFoxMcCloud

Like many comments here already, I too don't care about a Switch Mini. The Switch is already small enough for a handheld. I'd rather see a spec boost that would benefit the docked play & I would also like Nintendo to add a firmware update to all Switch models that would enable StreetPass functionality to be brought back. StreetPass requires absolutely no new hardware, it's all firmware and it would be nice to have that come back, especially for large gatherings like Comic Con. I was at my local Comic Con back in the spring and while I saw many people in line still playing their 3DS', I saw even more people playing Switch. Seems like Nintendo should have kept that functionality & the good news is, it really is a matter of Nintendo flipping a switch and releasing a new app for a StreetPass Mii Plaza 2.

Re: Limited Run Games To Release Physical NES And Game Boy Star Wars Cartridges

DarthFoxMcCloud

Would have preferred if they had released a collectible game card featuring all three of the Super Star Wars games that would have worked on Nintendo Switch. That would have been a fun collection to have. Regardless I have a modded SNES Classic with these games on that already and they play incredible, including taking advantage of that system's Save option. So I'll probably just stick with that.

Re: Nintendo Finally Opens A Second Official Retail Store

DarthFoxMcCloud

I've said this before and I'll say this again, Nintendo needs a Canadian store. Whether that's a brick and mortar location in Toronto or an online store similar to Nintendo UK. Canada is a HUGE market for Nintendo. We may be small in population, but numbers continually show Nintendo sells incredibly well in this country, sometimes even more than the U.S., and certainly more than Israel.

Re: Secret Of Mana Veteran Recalls How Game Releases Have Changed

DarthFoxMcCloud

I love articles like this. I also miss the old school way of promoting games. 90s commercials for games, albeit many were cheesy, were still pretty epic!! I think this summer since work won't be quite as taxing, I'm going to bring in my SNES Classic/Mini, plug it in to my tv at work and play through some good ol' 16-bit classics!!

Re: We Believe In E3, Says Nintendo

DarthFoxMcCloud

I still enjoy E3 and I think Nintendo has been doing a great job with a mix of Directs & Treehouse Live content. It works great for them and it's even better that it's all livestreamed for those of us who can't attend in person!

Re: Feature: Behind The Scenes On Collection Of Mana And Trials Of Mana

DarthFoxMcCloud

I have the physical version of Collection of Mana preordered through EB Games Canada. I really hope the artwork that's on the outside and inside of the Seiken Densetsu Collection from Japan is the same for the North American release. It's the only reason why I didn't buy it just digitally, I want that full box art on the outside and inside intact!

Re: Is This Our First Real Look At Nintendo Switch Mini?

DarthFoxMcCloud

I'll stick to my regular Switch thanks. I like that I can mix and match Joy Con. Frankly I don't see a Switch Mini making that much sense. All the mock ups look the same size as the regular Switch and frankly you wouldn't want the screen to be any smaller. Sure you could remove the Joy Con aspect but then you're basically just making a Vita and the price difference likely won't be that much. If parents want a budget first video game system for their kids, there's a 3DS/2DS with incredible value and a huge library. Then when they get older and can handle a more complex system, get them a Switch!
