Re: Warhammer Brings Its Own 'Vampire Survivors' Game To Switch 1 & 2 This Year

Daniel36

This is absolutely ridiculous.

The correct and perfect kind of absolutely ridiculous, mind you.

I am glad to see GW showing their goofy side for once again. I have severely disliked the path they have been walking on these past many years, starting with Age of Sigmar, but this... this is good.

If the price is right, I might just buy it for the support alone.

@Archius9 - Well, it's at its heart basically just a re-skin of Vampire Survivors, so of course it is really good!

Re: Miyamoto Expected "Significant Resistance Internally" To Fox In The Mario Galaxy Movie

Daniel36

I wasn't going to watch it anyways, I am still recovering from overstimulation from the first movie, but when I heard Fox was in it, it made me want to watch it even less.

I hate crossovers so... so... so so much!

They should've just made a Star Fox animated show. But oh well, I am not the target demographic for this anyways.

Happy for anyone who is enjoying the movie. My kids are going tonight.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl: Duel - Capcom Vs SNK 2 EO (GameCube)

Daniel36

I am not saying you need to add the most iconic fighters on the front cover for every single game, but I am saying you really want to put the most iconic fighters on the front cover of every single game.

I know, I know, they are there, completely washed out in the background of the EU/JP one, but honestly, they could have just as well not have been, they are hardly noticable.

This just... Neither really do it for me. I will not vote.

Re: Feature: Where The Heck Do You Start If You've Never Played Resident Evil?

Daniel36

Peronsally, I feel the series has steered so incredibly far from what it originally seemed to be, that I have no interest in ever catching up.

I enjoyed RE1, RE0 (never did get far in 2 or 3), RE4 but more for the Wii controls than the story, which was already veering in my opinion, and then RE5 was alright. Umbrella Chronicles was cool too, but the second one had the worst added story ever, and nothing that came after went in any direction I fancied, so...

End rant.

Re: Mechs And Turn-Based RPG Combat Collide In 'Starbites' On Switch 1 & 2 This May

Daniel36

@Bluelink45 I agree with you. It looks a bit sterile and disjointed, and the first thought that popped into my head when I saw the characters was "asset flip".

It feels a bit disrespectful to say that, undoubtedly the creators have poured a lot of hard work into creating this game, but that is a little bit what it felt like. So not to be a tool about it, because that would just be nasty, but it feels like a passion project of people who haven't had the most experience with creating games yet and bought some animé assets to throw into their game.

Which is FINE, mind you, and I would probably do the same if I were to ever create a game, but that is kind of what it feels like to me. The characters don't feel like they belong to the aesthetic of the rest of the game.

So it would depend on the price if I were to be interested. Supporting new devs for a feq quid? Yes! Pay premium for a game that doesn't feel premium? Not so much...

Re: "The Flavour Tends To Get Lost" - Dragon Quest's Yuji Horii On English Translations

Daniel36

@KingMike Oh, I am not taking that as the standard at all, was merely pointing out that Horii here probably hasn't experienced the full breadth of translation and localisation quality, so who is he to talk?

I don't know much about him, but I would dare say he doesn't have a very full grasp of the English language to say such a thing. There have been crap translations and great ones, and there have also been crap games and great ones coming from Japan. It's such a narrowminded thing to say.

And not only that, Japanese and English are completely different things, they are so incredibly far apart from one another. And Japanese and American consumers/fans are different too, so what is so wrong to cater to the crowd at least a little?

Even if he wasn't trying to be condescending, it's just a weird thing to state.

@A_WINNER_IS_Mii You have said it better than anyone can say here, and since it's your profession, you know what you are talking about. This guy right here, people. This is it!

Re: "The Flavour Tends To Get Lost" - Dragon Quest's Yuji Horii On English Translations

Daniel36

Methinks mister simply is being simple and has a understanding of the language.

Sure, Japanese is way more flowery in its use of language, and obviously cultural context gets lost in translation. But you can replace that with other cultural mannerisms. Their language is directly tied to their culture and their culture is very focused on rules.

Not only that, and without trying to be condescending towards the passion that a localisation team undoubtedly has, their efforts aren't by definition the highest art forms of the language in question.

The only games that I found had struck a seriously good vibe were Final Fantasy 12, and the PSP remake of Final Fantasy Tactics. Those had characters that I felt belonged in their worlds, especially Tactics.

Comparing that to translation work such as Working Designs, with puns about Bill Clinton in there, or JRPGs where everyone sounds like the worst cliché of an American jock teenager... If that is your reference, then sure... it's probably a simple language to your ears.

I am sure there are also Japanese people or media that are "simple" in comparison. There are PLENTY of animé series which, should I watch only those, would make me assume that every Japanese person screams and is angry, and that every Japanese person can only focus on breasts. One Piece is Japanese, the Japanese are not One Piece characters.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Rayman (GBC)

Daniel36

Ooooh first vote! That's a first.

I dislike them all, but I dislike the US one the least. Green looks nicer than red as a background to the quite reddish character. Japan's is just bland. At least in the other ones he crashes through something, even if non-descript.

Re: Octopath Traveler 0 Receives New Update On Switch And Switch 2

Daniel36

@EarthboundBenjy @Craigsouthern I'd day sharper visuals don't necessarily mean better visuals. I actually prefer a slightly washed out look, though I haven't compared them side by side.

If you already played OT1 and 2, then the Switch version of OT0 will be fine too.

There's a lot less max items you can place in your town though, which I don't know yet if that will be a dealbreaker... depends on how much you want to play house.

I only have a Switch 1, so I bought that one, and so far I haven't hit max items yet by far.

Also, the Switch 1 boxart doesn't feature a horrid red border, and the game cart actually holds the game. So there's that.

Hope that helps.

Re: Random: Disney's Terrible DS Game 'Cory In The House' Is Now Selling For Hundreds Of Dollars On eBay

Daniel36

@HammerKirby Well, in that case...

Pure insanity.

Spending well over a 100 bucks for a meme.

@Thomystic I was going to say the same thing but struggled to find the words. Then I scrolled back and saw your comment. Well put, I agree.

@sportymariosonicmix I am too lazy to read the reviw, but judging by your comment, I guess the reviewer saw two similarities between Cory and Kenan and Kel, and that's both being a tv show with a black lead. And games based on shows historically being sub-par, he probably assumed the games were alike.

I'd doubt he even played the game for more than ten minutes.

Re: Zelda's Next Lego Set Is Based On Ocarina Of Time's Final Battle, Out March

Daniel36

I have to say it... Why does Lego insist on making things so bland and unappealing?

Animal Crossing were tiny house with the backside non-existent. Far from enough to recreate a cool little island vignette with.
Mario was... well... a world map node thing...
I liked some of the Minecraft sets, at least those felt like you could create a cool litte world with, though the more recent ones are all awful.
I guess the Deku Tree was alright, but so many sets are just incredibly lacklustre.

Maybe it's just me.

Re: Hazelight Founder Josef Fares On EA: "Let's Be Honest, There's Not A Publisher In The World That Hasn't F****d Up"

Daniel36

@GammaPhonic @nessisonett - Maybe a better analogy would have been "The bully was nice to me, so...", but we can't deny that sentiment.

This studio was lucky amongst a ton of less lucky ones. EA is a horrid company for many reasons though. I think we can agree on that. Doesn't mean there aren't any good folks there doing their darnest to create fun products for us, but the top dogs are only in it for the dough.

Re: Site News: Please Welcome Mai, The Newest Member Of Our YouTube Team

Daniel36

@Not_Soos You can pay me in exposure. Haha, just kidding... I also dislike video editing. I am alright at it, made a few pretty good looking music videos, if I do say so myself, but all for the love of the craft.

Also thought about starting a YouTube channel but the hassle wasn't worth it to me.

I hope the video game music thing pans out, but I am not holding my breath. We shall see. Maybe it's time to start those house tracks now.

Good luck on your endeavours!
