@JohnnyMind There's plenty of different types of games set in the 40K universe, but honestly, you're not reallly missing out on much. It's an amalgamation of several different sci-fi stories all wrapped up in a million tropes. It's fun, for sure, but only if you are invested in it.
Bought the game for my son, don't think he ever played more tha 10 minutes. Neither did I for that matter. I am sure it's a fun game, but takes a bit too long to get into.
@JohnnyMind This game will have very little in common with Warhammer 40.000 proper, besides the obvious characters and enemies. I wouldn't advise going down a 40K rabbit hole, as it will eat up your time and finances.
The correct and perfect kind of absolutely ridiculous, mind you.
I am glad to see GW showing their goofy side for once again. I have severely disliked the path they have been walking on these past many years, starting with Age of Sigmar, but this... this is good.
If the price is right, I might just buy it for the support alone.
@Archius9 - Well, it's at its heart basically just a re-skin of Vampire Survivors, so of course it is really good!
My pokédicted son loves it, but well... that was a given. I watched him play it for a little bit and got overstimulated from all the neon lights and frenetic music. So a no for me. Also, I never really liked Pokémon's battle mechanics all that much. Loved the first game, but that was pretty much the last one I ever played up until Arceus, which I enjoyed for what it was.
But, as always... and I am starting to sound like an shadowy version of @JohnnyMind - I simply do not have time to play ANY games, let alone ones I don't own yet.
Also, never heard of that game. Looks cool for a few minutes. Tower of Druaga looks severely masochistic, and I am guessing that was level 1? My goodness, those wizards looked scary!
I wasn't going to watch it anyways, I am still recovering from overstimulation from the first movie, but when I heard Fox was in it, it made me want to watch it even less.
I hate crossovers so... so... so so much!
They should've just made a Star Fox animated show. But oh well, I am not the target demographic for this anyways.
Happy for anyone who is enjoying the movie. My kids are going tonight.
@Aquinas I understand some of these, but what I don't understand is how some people could vote for a literal trashbag, seeing as we are on the subject of trash.
I am not saying you need to add the most iconic fighters on the front cover for every single game, but I am saying you really want to put the most iconic fighters on the front cover of every single game.
I know, I know, they are there, completely washed out in the background of the EU/JP one, but honestly, they could have just as well not have been, they are hardly noticable.
This just... Neither really do it for me. I will not vote.
@Spider-Kev That's the creepy house one, right? I will admit, that one gave me comparable vibes to the OGs, maybe even creepier.
But then the vampire lady one just went completely gonzo, to my tastes anyways... And I am too autistic to not take that into account when trying to enjoy other parts of the series.
Peronsally, I feel the series has steered so incredibly far from what it originally seemed to be, that I have no interest in ever catching up.
I enjoyed RE1, RE0 (never did get far in 2 or 3), RE4 but more for the Wii controls than the story, which was already veering in my opinion, and then RE5 was alright. Umbrella Chronicles was cool too, but the second one had the worst added story ever, and nothing that came after went in any direction I fancied, so...
@Vyacheslav333 Heck, partner with fans who have already done that work. Seriously, soooooooooo many fan translations. I am going to dare bet that just their names in the credits on an official release using their translation work is all the reward they need anyways.
@Bluelink45 I agree with you. It looks a bit sterile and disjointed, and the first thought that popped into my head when I saw the characters was "asset flip".
It feels a bit disrespectful to say that, undoubtedly the creators have poured a lot of hard work into creating this game, but that is a little bit what it felt like. So not to be a tool about it, because that would just be nasty, but it feels like a passion project of people who haven't had the most experience with creating games yet and bought some animé assets to throw into their game.
Which is FINE, mind you, and I would probably do the same if I were to ever create a game, but that is kind of what it feels like to me. The characters don't feel like they belong to the aesthetic of the rest of the game.
So it would depend on the price if I were to be interested. Supporting new devs for a feq quid? Yes! Pay premium for a game that doesn't feel premium? Not so much...
I love this game. Sadly don't have the time to really get into it, but I've come pretty far already. It's not perfect but it is defintely one of my faves. Now if only I could get back to when time went slowly.
@KingMike Oh, I am not taking that as the standard at all, was merely pointing out that Horii here probably hasn't experienced the full breadth of translation and localisation quality, so who is he to talk?
I don't know much about him, but I would dare say he doesn't have a very full grasp of the English language to say such a thing. There have been crap translations and great ones, and there have also been crap games and great ones coming from Japan. It's such a narrowminded thing to say.
And not only that, Japanese and English are completely different things, they are so incredibly far apart from one another. And Japanese and American consumers/fans are different too, so what is so wrong to cater to the crowd at least a little?
Even if he wasn't trying to be condescending, it's just a weird thing to state.
@A_WINNER_IS_Mii You have said it better than anyone can say here, and since it's your profession, you know what you are talking about. This guy right here, people. This is it!
Methinks mister simply is being simple and has a understanding of the language.
Sure, Japanese is way more flowery in its use of language, and obviously cultural context gets lost in translation. But you can replace that with other cultural mannerisms. Their language is directly tied to their culture and their culture is very focused on rules.
Not only that, and without trying to be condescending towards the passion that a localisation team undoubtedly has, their efforts aren't by definition the highest art forms of the language in question.
The only games that I found had struck a seriously good vibe were Final Fantasy 12, and the PSP remake of Final Fantasy Tactics. Those had characters that I felt belonged in their worlds, especially Tactics.
Comparing that to translation work such as Working Designs, with puns about Bill Clinton in there, or JRPGs where everyone sounds like the worst cliché of an American jock teenager... If that is your reference, then sure... it's probably a simple language to your ears.
I am sure there are also Japanese people or media that are "simple" in comparison. There are PLENTY of animé series which, should I watch only those, would make me assume that every Japanese person screams and is angry, and that every Japanese person can only focus on breasts. One Piece is Japanese, the Japanese are not One Piece characters.
Only two players? That is kind of a bummer. Especially since the blurb says only He-Man, Man-at-Arms and Teela can save the planet, kind of a bummer one has to sit on the sideline.
I actually prefer the S2 visuals for 99%. The only thing I dislike is the look of her hair. That one looks better on PS. Everything else though looks plastic on PS and the right amount of washed out slightly on S2.
I dislike them all, but I dislike the US one the least. Green looks nicer than red as a background to the quite reddish character. Japan's is just bland. At least in the other ones he crashes through something, even if non-descript.
Talk about an eclective mix of titles to start with.
My autism always burns bright when I see "collections" start with a part 2 and not release part 1 of anything, such as here starting with Ninja Gaiden 2. It hurts me and I am not even the target audience, haha.
@Craigsouthern If you read my post, you would see that I present those as additional thoughts, not the main one. I also didn't say the S1 version is better, I simply compared several things.
@EarthboundBenjy @Craigsouthern I'd day sharper visuals don't necessarily mean better visuals. I actually prefer a slightly washed out look, though I haven't compared them side by side.
If you already played OT1 and 2, then the Switch version of OT0 will be fine too.
There's a lot less max items you can place in your town though, which I don't know yet if that will be a dealbreaker... depends on how much you want to play house.
I only have a Switch 1, so I bought that one, and so far I haven't hit max items yet by far.
Also, the Switch 1 boxart doesn't feature a horrid red border, and the game cart actually holds the game. So there's that.
Seeing as the red makes me nauseous even on static screenshots, this is a welcome addition.
Not that I will be playing it, but nonetheless... I can't be the only one who gets that, so anyone who would like to play it and this makes it easier, welcome addition!
@Thomystic I was going to say the same thing but struggled to find the words. Then I scrolled back and saw your comment. Well put, I agree.
