What's that Japanese game with the red cover in the cover picture?

Maybe I should download that. Now is as good a time as any to get back to gaming, which has been a WHILE! Still a little bumned that the town max size is smaller on Switch 1, but it probably doesn't matter much. If anything, I need to be more selective in who to allow in my town.

On an unrelated note, to any staff who reads this, there seems to be an issue with Time Extension on mobile, unless it's just my phone, but I can no longer read anything there.

Sure, it's kind of copying Octopath's style, but it's a style I love immensely so I don't care. It's the natural evolution of sprite-based RPGs, as far as I am concerned.

I cannot lie, if I saw that US box art in the store, it would have definitely piqued my interest.

But, young me not knowing anything about Dragonball, would have been even more interested in the Japanese version.

So, I do not hate the US version, it has that NES charm that would have made me very interested in the game. But the Japanese one, along with the European one, has that too, but more.

Pretty amazing, considering its age, that the original beats almost all of these in terms of animation.

But Akira was an AMAZING piece of animation, so much of it looked so realistic, way before 3D could be used.

Games like this one has the unfortunate effect of making me feel too guilty to return after a long absence, so I doubt I will return.

I really enjoyed Arceus, my main criticism beng it was the perfect excuse for a town building experience, which it didn't have.

That would have made it an 11/10 game for me.

@Anti-Matter Yeah, but I don't like that. Instant turn-off. How you dislike gory action games, I dislike games that give me time pressure. Without it I would absolutely LOVE this, I am sure.

The game looks amazing, but I cannot stand timed days where every day goes by in minutes. It makes me feel stressed out, and that is exactly what I don't need in a "cozy" game.

But glad the game exists. I am sure a lot of people have a lot of fun with it.

Japan's is better. The lil dude looks just as awesome, cuter compared to US, but equally great, and the rest of the box is just better allround.

@Teksette Except it's probably not even developed to solve all human problems. Maybe some companies have that intent, but most of them created it to solve having to pay people.

I enjoy using AI for certain things, but it's mostly a speedier search engine and idea generator for me. I don't use it to steal labour for my own monetary gain.

@ShieldHero I will admit, I am GUESSING they make money off of it, but why else would a company exist but make money, especially in the tech business.

For the record, I don't have strong feelings against AI. I understand and enjoy its uses, but to be fair, I do see more negatives than positives at the moment.

@dskatter Feel free to be snarky with me, but read along and see I am far from the only one feeling this way. It's obviously good they listen, but it devaluates the cartridge. I can certainly name a game where I wished the dev HAD listened to feedback, but that wasn't a cartridge game.

@Andee Same. With this game, I bought it for my kid, she loves it, so it's not that big of a deal, but I guess I am glad I didn't start it myself yet. I just don't like this practice.

@Bobobiwan When I first saw a movie on Blu Ray on high def, it was the ugliest thing I ever saw. Sure, you could see every pore and every pimple on the main character's face, and there you have it.

Ultra sharp graphics are not necessarily better looking. Maybe the S2 graphichs have an ever so slight wash over them? I prefer that.

I lost touch with RE after 4, played 5 a brief bit, but I feel like they veered into a direction I do not like. I liked the very hard sci fi angle from the first few, and it feels like they went more into a mix of fantasy thrown in, which I already felt in RE4 and didn't particularly like there.

But!! I never played anything beyond a small bit of 5, so correct me if I am wrong, please.

@Polvasti I appreciate the listening, but... one day all we have left is the cartridge, with no way to re-download any post-release updates, and that is sad.

Sure, by then there will be rom sites, and probably definitive editions on newer platforms, but it just doesn't feel right, the way things are organised these days.

Bug fixes are all fine and dandy, but I so wish developers would stop adding new features to already published games. Either take longer dev time, or save it for a sequel or something.

Japan, for the reason that it does indeed look like an animé video, but I like that!

My son bought me the first one for PS4. Very sweet of him. Game looked beautiful, sure, but it wasn't for me. The original wasn't my favourite FF to begin with, I hated all the swearing and cussing, which they decided to up even further in this one.

Maybe if that wasn't present, I may have loved it. Even then, I think the feeling the original gave me topped the remake.

I also never played any of the other games, AC, BC, CC, etc.

Reminds me of that really weird cat game from a while back, that was full of AI, uncanny cat's eyes, and which never materialized.

This... is sort of that.

I went to check the cutscenes from the PSP version, and while they are lovely, I am actually not as sad as I had expected to be that they were cut. They are reslly nice, but theu also kind of not gel with the game's graphics as much as I had thought.

Anyways, this will NOT be a day one for me. I have been burned too often now. Bought Unicorn Overlord the minute I saw another copy in the wild after they were completely sold out EVERYWHERE, only to find them deeply discounted a few weeks later. Won't make that mistake again.

My favourite Zelda game, together with Link to the Past, though I view them as very seperate entities. Link's Adventure is more epic saga, Link to the Past is more fairytale.

@GamerGrandpa Yeah, the Netherlands did its own thing, I guess... especially back then. Nowadays we get easy access to everythimg with Netflix, Prime, you name it, and digital tv gives us a few international channels too, but back then we didn't have that many channels, so we got whatever was probably the cheapest or most promising programs to air. We did have Cartoon Network in the 90s, surprisingly enough.

These games should be laid back. This type of time management gives me a huge amount of unneeded "stress". Obviously not real stress, but not the laid-back feeling I am looking for when playing a game like this.

@GoproGO I had to look it up. Spongebob began airing in my country in 2002, but not yet on a Nickelodeon channel. So while I may have had the chance to see the logo in the cartoon, it wouldn't be shown full screen. So I wouldn't have known Spongebob to be a Nickelodeon affair. Same with Rugrats, which was definitely aired in our country mid-90s, but not on a dedicated channel, instead on our BBC-equivalent channels.

The Nickelodeon channel has a very confusing timeline here, with digital channels and timeslots galore.

Best I could find was that I personally would have only gotten into easy contact with it around 2015. Before that it was either on small timeslots on niche channels, or not even available to me through my provider of coice.

I am sure I would've heard the name by then though, as I was online a lot, so I guess I would've known the name and its associated brands through online exposure, but definitely not as a mainstay in our household.

I like the look of this game a lot. Important question though, for those who've played it;

Is there a day-timer? Like, does it take my character half an hour just to walk to the door? Another half an hour to pull some weeds out of the ground? I severely dislike such a mechanic.

Seeing as the name Nickelodeon only became a thing in my country well into the new millenium, it surprises me they were around during the 16-days.

My eldest is pushing me too. I just don't have the time. I simply don't. Maybe soon.

@Ulysses Do the Ivalice worlds differ? I would one hundred percent say they are not in the same world. I am sure there are people who will disagree and place them in different eras of the same world, but stylistically they are just so far removed from one another. Any hints of them being related are fortunately locked behind optional sidequests that I simply don't pursue.

So everyone can safely disagree with me and you should just accept whatever lore you feel most comfortable with. I personally loathe what is now referred to as isekai stories, people being whisked away to a completely different world, so I choose to regard the GBA game as non-canon to this one, and any optional paths, DLC or else that introduce different worlds to this game, I will simply not pursue, to keep the experience a pure one for myself.

I am sure if you ask 10 people who worked on this very game, they will give you at least 3 completely different answers to the question, so... Just choose what you like.
