Re: Random: Spare A Thought For The Kid Whose Dad Returned Zelda: A Link To The Past

Daniel36

@Ryu_Niiyama Thank you for sharing. Quite courageous. I hope yuo will be able to enjoy your favourite pastimes for a long time to come.

It almost feels like people are supposed to feel guilty for not liking Link to the Past, haha. It's not for everyone. Personally, I strangely never owned it, but I did play and finish it. I loved it, but even when I have a MASSIVE amount of nostalgia for it, it doesn't hold a candle to Zelda II for me. That's the definitive Zelda experience for me.

I do not view these games as being in the same universe. They are different stories to me. Zelda II is a direct sequel to I, which I didn't play on release but which has also shown enough age to not be something I feel the need to finish. Zelda II was an epic story for me though.

Zelda III is a far more contained vibe. The world is smaller. The princess is more approachable. The entire vibe is a village compared to Zelda II's country.

That doesn't make it a worse game, mind you, it's just that the vibe is more SHUDDER... cozy?

No... Scratch that. Homely.

Zelda III had a more homely vibe, and one that I resonate STRONGLY with, but is in such a stark contrast to the epicness of Zelda II, that it honestly feels like something entirely different. I guess you could compare it to playing Breath of the Wild versus Link's Awakening, which coincidentally I view as a direct sequel to III, but I guess that is pretty much canon.

I actually feel like BotW has taken a lot of inspiration from Zelda II, actually. But that's a different story altogether.

Anyhoo, enough ranting, I need to get back to work.

Re: Dragon Quest Creator Chimes In On Characters Showing Less Skin In Upcoming HD-2D Remake

They should've given more options. Clearly male, slightly androgenous male, middle, slightly androgenous female and clearly female, and not call them anything but say "Choose the look you like the most".

And then do the same with clothing. Bikini armor, bikini armor with leather, bikini armor with gambeson or something, and then something else clothed, even better protected.

Because while we are all putting our panties in a bunch, I think both options are lame. The most naked one the most lame, but I still wouldn't choose the female fighter all the same for wearing such a ridiculous outfit.

Nor would I choose the male option because he looks weird too.

Maybe we can all agree that having the option would be best? More options is better representation and still allows you to choose the option that would have been the default.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom?

Daniel36

I asked my son to rate it. He gave it a 9.
The game is super fun, but it's not like it's the BEST game ever. And it is a bit similar to Link's Awakening, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but you know...

It's fun though, not using a sword but instead different things. It's a lot of fun.

He should go into journalism!

People who gave this game a 1 are... I am not taking them seriously.

Re: The First Review For The Legend Of Zelda: Echoes Of Wisdom Is In

Daniel36

@Maubari I understand the sentiment, but BotW was the first Zelda in a looooooong time that gave me the right feels. To me it felt like a re-imaging of Zelda II, which was my first Zelda and one I fondly remember.

TotK was too over the top for me though, didn't even bother.

But before that, the last Zelda to truly captivate me was probably the SNES one. So honestly only Zelda II and III. I guess I liked the original Link's Awakening too, but never finished it. So I guess I really did enjoy BotW, otherwise I wouldn't have played it to the end.

Re: Fantasian Neo Dimension Releases On Switch December 2024

Daniel36

While the setting is again the overly ridiculous, no suspension of disbelief whatsoever "epic" of most sci-fi-esque JRPGs that I personally really dislike, the fact that they used tabletop scenery builds makes the wargamer in me very giddy.

Mayhaps if the price is right. It's not like I have time to play all these JRPGs. I still haven't finished Triangle Strategy, Eiyuden Chronicles or Unicorn Overlord, because why finish one before going to the next, right?

Didn't finish Octopath Traveler II either, though I am content with what I have played. Possible Spoiler alert about the first game > The impossible final boss of the first game kind of put me off of going any further, though I do love both games.

Re: Lunar Remastered Collection Revives Beloved '90s JRPG Series On Switch In Spring 2025

Daniel36

Not my favourite game ever, but it has very certain charms that make this a definite buy for me. Though I am not looking forward to that wizard's tower? Can't remember exactly, but it had a sequence of doors you had to do correctly, and I never got past it.

@Serpenterror - Suikoden III sucks? Well, I beg to differ, my good sir. Sure, it's not as great as Suikoden I or Suikoden II, but that's okay. The story for me was incredible, and I LOVED how it wrapped up some stories starting even from Suikoden I. Very emotional ending.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch Collections And Compilation Games

Daniel36

You know what I wouldn't mind? And I know it'll never happen, but I would love to have a Switch cartridge exactly like the bootleg 31 in 1 Multicart NES cartridge that I had a long, long time ago.

There was something extremely magical about that. A hint of illegality, which for a young boy was somehow kind of tantalising, but mostly it was a collection with games that one would NEVER find in stores, so there was this exotic feeling as well, mysterious. The art on the cartridge was MAGICAL!

My goodness. Karateka, Mappy, Battle City. Fond memories.

I had a friend with a different cart with even more exotic games on it. Sometimes I feel like revisiting them, but I forgot the names of almost all of them.

Re: 'RPG Maker With' Demo Now Available On Switch eShop

Daniel36

@AstroTheGamosian Well, as I said, Unreal is free and also one of the two biggest engines, that professionals use. I'd wager about half the games you play are made with it.

It is a huge program but many tutorials exist.

Start small. Learn the basics through online tutorials. Don't start with your dream game, you will get discouraged if you bite off more than you can chew right off the bat.

Good luck!

Re: 'RPG Maker With' Demo Now Available On Switch eShop

Daniel36

@AstroTheGamosian Don't know your background, obviously, but if you are serious about wabting to make games, this is not the product for you.

Unreal Engine is free, and a pretty much literal million times more powerful.

RPG Maker is really only good for one thing, and that is create 16 bit style JRPGs with a very limited palette of graphics and gameplay styles. Clever and creative folks can create clever and creative games with it, but they will probably be using the PC version, which allows for a bit more than this one.

Re: Cyberpunk Goes Turn-Based In New Rhythm JRPG 'Keylocker'

Daniel36

I feel like terminology is meaningless these days. At least to me. What makes this a JRPG? Because it doesn't look like one to me, for sure.

@calbeau - For what it's worth, it looks like her name is B Zero B Zero, though I might be wrong.

Still, people will read it as Bobo, which I assume isn't a nice thing for Filipino players, so your point is still valid.

Re: Palworld Developer Responds To Nintendo Lawsuit

Daniel36

@RygelXVIII They are not being bashed for trying something new. The main game idea is new and kinda cool.

They are being bashed because they CLEAAAAAAARLY made this as a "What if Pokemon had guns and stuff" game.

If the creatures looked differently, they would have NEVER made as much cash as they did.

They chose the name Pocketpair as their dev name. That is no coincidence. They are CLEARLY banking on Pokemon's popularity and the very distinct similarities in design of their monsters.

Is this a Pokemon clone? No. Are the creatures Pokemon clones? Yes.

Re: Minecraft Live Returns Later This Month With News, Updates And Much More

Daniel36

Honestly the only thing this game needs is better towns (and cities), with better ways of interacting with the villagers, and a way to build your own town and attract villagers.

I know there once was this way of getting villagers with golden apples or something, but that is just a convoluted mess to get a village.

Honestly, this game would be so much better if there was some actual life in the world, not just mindless mobs.

Re: 50 Best GameCube Games Of All Time

Daniel36

@Kienda For you and everyone else hereafter, so I will caps lock it to make it stand out. So I am not doing it to sound like a smartypants towards you, but...

THIS LIST IS BASED ON USER SCORES AND THEREFORE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

So if a game is missing, not enough people have given it a score.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Emio - The Smiling Man: Famicom Detective Club?

Daniel36

I won't grade it as I've only played a little bit, but the entire game system frustrates me unnecessarily. Give me meaningful choices or none at all, but not this "That doesn't work" nonsense, trying out a million things before finally figuring out we just needed to contine "talking"... Just continue the conversation, it makes no sense.

That annoyed me. There also seem to be very few consequences for doing something wrong, so it's just wasting my time.

I love the artwork though. I could easily find myself enjoying this if not for the needlessly archaic "game system".
