Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Nintendo Switch 2 Special

Daniel36

Well... since all the Switch 1 cases are comparably a million times better than that ugly red border on top, it's really a battle between MKW and DKB. My choice is MKW, but DKB is nice too.

@aardvaarkchi Agreed. Baffling that they still keep it. The EU one looks like he needs to go to the toilet real bad and tries to hold it in. US one is amazing!

Re: Select EU Retailers Are Abandoning Nintendo's Suggested Retail Price For Switch 2 Games

Daniel36

@Wisestfool There is a fast food item in my country, which right before the change to the Euro cost about 50 eurocent for two at one particular place. They were more expensive before that, most places had them for 50, but that was the lowest. So 25 eurocent per item. They now cost 2,50. Some sell them for 3,00.

So sure, the Switch 2 and their games are more expensive... but it's to be expected. And let's all be honest too. Our backlogs are way more expensive.

Re: ICYMI: Nintendo Is Hosting Another Direct Later This Month

Daniel36

@tdub154420 They should add all of the racers from that game in here as well.

If you are going to call it Mario Kart World, you should add all the world in there. Now, maybe not make it the kart version of Smash Bros, I kinda disliked Link being in MK8, but DK is part of the Mario World, so by extension so are Diddy's racers.

Re: Elden Ring Coming To Switch 2

Daniel36

Haven't played it yet but heard good things. This might be my ticket. I do have a PS4, but have never used it... so...

Which reminds me, my kids got a CD stuck in it. Maybe I should fix that for them.

Re: Rumour: GameCube Revival Planned For Nintendo Switch Online

Daniel36

It sounds like a given, but then again, I wouldn't hold my hopes up for any particular game.

Let's be honest here. Nintendo could've thrown a huge wad of cash towards everyone and just dump every single NES and SNES game ever released on NSO within a few months. Instead we get these IV drips with such random titles that really don't do too much for anyone.

Then again, each and every publisher could've just picked up their own catalogue and release it as well. You'd think they'd care a bit more about their legacy, but everyone is just min-maxing their profits...

Re: Final Fantasy 9 Remake Hopes Rise As Square Enix Teases Anniversary Projects

Daniel36

@Durians Thanks for the replies. I don't think I will go for it though. I simply lack the time and mental room to dive into a game such as this, masterpiece or not.

And like I said, I never really liked the whole aesthetic. I remember feeling absolutely nothing for the characters. They didn't strike me as characters I wanted to know more about. So... I guess it's just not for me.

@Jeronan "Playing Division back in the day"

My goodness, there is a confronting statement if there ever was one. I remember oogling over the first gameplay trailer, which ended up not being the gameplay in even the slightest...

And now, three seconds later, we are talking about "back in the day". I had to look it up. The trailer I saw was from 2013.

I am furious! Who is in charge of the time?

Re: Random: Chances Are You've Been Pronouncing 'Balatro' Wrong

Daniel36

I feel confident enough to admit I have been pronouncing it wrong and would also like to put it on record that I have no intention whatsoever on rectifying my mistakes.

Now, when it comes to @-wc- , your little English lesson does put me, as a teacher of English as a second language, to shame a little, because you use such pretty words as vernacular and colloquialism, and my tired brain feels embarrassed to admit I had to look it up...

Well, I doubt I will forget again, so I can add it to my lexicon for good now.

Re: Chrono Trigger's Lifetime Sales Have Now Surpassed The Five Million Mark

Daniel36

@Suikoden_1986 On the one hand I am hoping for a new sequel. On the other hand, that new mobile phone game (Star Trail?) doesn't look like it will capture the Suikoden magic, and the DS and PSP games were... well, they weren't Suikoden games, that's for sure...

Not saying that mobile game will be bad, and I am sure the devs have poursd their heart and soul in it... but from what I have seen so far, it seems more like an Eiyuden game than Suikoden, and that one failed to capture the magic as well...

I am scared a "true" sequel will miss the mark as well...

Re: Chrono Trigger's Lifetime Sales Have Now Surpassed The Five Million Mark

Daniel36

@Yosher wait... how many times did I blink?!?!

Time goes by toooooooo quickly!!

@Suikoden_1986 Suikoden is my absolute fave series. I love it to death. But FFVI introduced me to JRPGs and the impact it had was just more monumental than Suikoden was. As a series though, Suikoden all the way!!

I am not going to rank them, because they are vastly different games with different emotional value, but as a standalone release, I'd have to say FFVI is my number 1. Chrono Trigger stands at a joint number 2 spot with... well, all the Suikodens.

Yes, including IV!

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Nobunaga's Ambition (SNES)

Daniel36

Being European, the US box would be found among many other very exotic looking games in the local import shop, for which I have very fond memories.

Not sure if THIS box was among them, but it gives me warm fuzzy feelings.

So, sure... the JP one has more going for it, but those dark, foreboding black boxes of the US variety just do it for me!

Re: Chrono Trigger's Lifetime Sales Have Now Surpassed The Five Million Mark

Daniel36

Final Fantasy VI had the biggest impact on me, but Chrono Trigger is a very close second. Both of them come with VERY fond memories of the import store I bought them from.

The best thing Square Enix can do is give us an HD-2D remake with the option of switchibg to original graphics. I'd support a full remake such as the FF7 one too. Dragonball Z and Dragon Quest have proven time and again that full 3D can look amazing.

Either way, I would love it.

@Mariotag You have to see it in the context of the time period. Gaming, and especially JRPG gaming, wasn't NEARLY as popular as it is today. So these lifetime sales are nothing to scoff at.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (22nd March)

Daniel36

@wollywoo Do that.

It is, of course, a very classical turn based RPG, so that should be taken into account, but it has a few fun sub-systems and sub-quests and such. Also, once the story goes, it goes! At least, I think so!

If anything, as you may be aware you can find up to 108 characters and finding them all triggers some things, but don't feel pressured to find them all the first time around. The games are short enough to do a chill playthrough first and a 100% run next.

@JohnnyMind Cheers, mate!

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (22nd March)

Daniel36

@JohnnyMind I am not going to advise you to try it, as I have been following your comments for a while and there are currently 53636 games you got but haven't had time to play yet and another 373627363736 that you are interested in trying at one point, and I don't want to be responsible for giving you the straw that breaks your back.

I am teasing you, obviously. I think Various Daylife can be played in short bursts, much like Denpa Men, but it can easily become a time sink. It's very much a sim first, RPG second, so it's not for everyone. But I enjoy it.

Re: Review: Various Daylife (Switch) - A Simple Yet Repetitive JRPG Best For Bite-Sized Sessions

Daniel36

So I finally bought it when it was on sale and I had a gift card. Yes, I know this review is ages old.

6/10 is right, but these days I am often more in the mood for 6/10 games. I also love Kairosoft games, so take that into consideration.

I love this game for what it is. It greatly reminds me of Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles - My Life as a King. It's more slice of life.

Reading about the action instead of performing it, if you view it more as reading a book, where you have to fill in a lot of blanks yourself as well... then you might understand the appeal a bit more.

Also, by not having to travel a (usually pretty empty) world to reach some ultimate demi-god final boss, the world starts to feel larger. At least for me. Because you are confined to just one place, it just shifts the perspective. I personally love these more "low stakes" RPGs.

So, for anyone reading this review and the comments; my two cents, which seems to be a very different currency to the comments above me. It's more a life sim than an RPG, but there are certainly people who enjoy this.
