@SuntannedDuck2 Okay, so blatantly copying and slightly altering character designs is not a rip-off, but blatantly copying gameplay design is? That is kind of what I am reading here.
Nobody would have batted an eye at that sheep monster if that was the only design they got inspired by. Nintendo doesn't hold the rights over cute animé looks, and a sheep is a sheep. The point is that almost every design was a slighlty altered copy, including the more recognizable amd unique ones.
And yes, I know that was not what the lawsuit is about. But the intent was for Nintendo to shut the game down, and the lawyers took the approach that they felt was best, and I guess they couldn't make the case strong enough going for the designs. I don't know.
But this reminds me of another hobby. Games Workshop completely altered their Warhammer game world when they basically killed off all of their "generic" fantasy factions and replaced them with more unique ones. They did so because they saw third parties making models for their game and they couldn't do anything about it, since they didn't own "generic elf" and "generic dwarf", so they had to make their own game more unique and trademarketable.
Kind of like that sheep. Doesn't explain to me how they couldn't go after the more blatant designs, but I guess there you have it.
But power to you for enjoying Palworld. I hardly played it so I am not bothered by the similarities, and Palland is cheaper so I am going to love playing that.
Played it a bit a few years back. It was insanity. It was short, agonizing (for my char) and fun. But I was predisposed at the time. Might get it on Switch.
Please jist stop. The original Donkey Kong was a game. Taking Mario from that ibto the Mushroom Kingdom was probably a literal mushroom trip from the devs. Everything after that was just more "horizon expanding" substances to come up with the next game.
As much as I adore continuity a d would wish for it, autistic as I am, it doesn't exist. Not with Mario, not with Zelda, not with Donkey Kong.
I mean, if a giant lizard kidnapped a princess, I wouldn't partake in go karts, tennis, baseball, soccer or any other sports with said lizard.
Wow, they want feedback? Are they going to USE the feedback? Because that'll be a first.
I am not interested in this game though. I don't care for hack and slash and I loathe time travel things... except for Dr. Who, that is... so this game isn't for me.
More hyped for OT zero, but I must admit, haven't touched any game the past few months already... If only I had time...
@Tyranexx It's a pretty amazing park. And again, I find it quite baffling how not many people outside of the Netherlands know abaout it. I personally love how even the queues are part of many of the rides. The queue in the Flying Dutchman is basically an experience unto itself.
@Tyranexx If you ever need any additional info down the line, @ me and I will help you out. Tell you which rides are worth it and which are less, stuff like that. It's funny how Efteling is kind of a hidden gem, because it's famous in our country.
@Tyranexx It is very much a fairy tale theme park. Quite a few things aren't even rides, just "experiences". Unfortunately they replaced my absolute fave, the haunted castle, and replaced it with something more action-packed, but I can't complain. Even most of the actual roller coasters have theme and background stories to them.
One piece of advice, make it at least a 2-day trip. The park is too big now for just one day. They also have a themed hotel and a bungalow park, but those are pretty expensive. Plenty hotels in the regiom though.
Oh, and there is a dedicated app that gives you directions and estimated wait times for all the rides. Prettty useful!
Anyways, US is better. Cool art and it conveys a fighting game. With the EU one, I'd expect a game like Populous, or Powermonger, or something... it's not a bad cover, it would pique my interest, but for the wrong genre.
@KociolekDoSyta I've noticed a definite shift in mentality there, from various sources. You can also see it in how developers speak now versus years ago.
They've become more direct, more aggresive and blunt too. They used to be way more polite.
I really need to start giving these games a chance. My kids adore them, and they contiuously make fun of my favourite "ugly" games, which are pixelated all the same, so it must be something special.
Wow... I am not a huge ai hater, but this... this is just plain ridiculous.
I was semi excited for this game. Loved the original, though I never got far....
But not buying this.
@Pickettfury You can take shortcuts... I mean, I am no stranger to shortcuts, and I have asked ai to create some textures for me, but there is a difference between asking ai to upscale something and just drop the result into your game, or asking ai to upscale it and then fixing up the mistakes it made.
And I understand there will be plenty of people who will say those are the same thing, both are equally bad, and I understand their sentiment, but I can somewhat understand relying on ai to do the first part for you and then finishing up the rest, but this is just asking ai to do everything and use the half-baked result it gives as a final product.
@Samalik Fair enough, the road towards most ai is paved with theft.
I still love the ideas I generate while using ChatGPT. I've had a lot of fun using it for my hobbies.
But yeah, should I use it for commercial gains, it's basically stealing from others. It's a deliberately grey area, I suppose. Not a lot of people give it much thought.
@VoidofLight I get what you are saying, but it's kind of the same as asking a farmer not to use machinery and rely on hoes to do his farming. Or a cook to produce his own vegetables and spices in his own garden.
AI, if used correctly, is a time saver. But like any tool, there is a proper and good way to use it, and bad ways. I use it as an idea generator and I am having fun with it. I am not using it to mass produce nonsense, trying to flog it for a quick buck. Designs are still me, I just ask AI to give me the ingredients I want to cook up something nice.
@Samalik Realistic textures are almost always made from photographing actual textures. That is then no less "cheating" or "stealing".
And no, most artist don't make everything from scratch. They can also take existing things and spin it into something new. Most do. Not a lot of art isn't derivative. AI can simply speed up some processes. And yes, you can also use it to cheat, but people catch onto that pretty quickly.
I was just reading an article over at Time Extension on NES cover artwork, were games like Contra had covers which were simply redrawings of Arnie and Sly and such. Heck, a tech looking panel from Streets of Rage was lifted from an Akira manga cover. Stuff like that happens all the time. Some of your fave music artists have probably sampled stuff. Well... maybe not metal bands if that's your thing, but it's not like they made their own fx pedals to get the sound they want.
@BobbleBubble As a hobbyist artist, I appreciate a lot of what AI can do. If I need a texture of a rusty console with some buttons on it, I can A: buy it from something like Shutterstock, probably not entirely what I am looking for, B: Find it in real life or C: ask AI for a rusty console texture.
What I make of it is still me doing the work. I just asked for a quick texture.
Is that lame? Some of you will say yes, some will say no. I just feel like I saved an hour or two worth of searching and retouching a simple texture.
Consumers won't know the difference, and it's not like I cheated an artist out of money.
SNES for me. Never liked the graphics of the N64, and GC never really had the ganes I wanted. Of course I spent countless hours on it anyways, but I have better memories of the SNES. That was my high school console, so...
My kids still play it on Switch every now and again, but I loathe the way they implemented the market place and whatnot. I bought a few add-on packs, especially skins, but I can never use them for some reason.
I am done with this game. And I was a very early adopter at around 2011.
If they reverted the "Shakespearian" script and went back to plain and dull Engrish, it'll be a no from me.
Edit: Seems they are keeping the script's tone from WotL, which I am content with. Missing a few extra cutscenes and a character that feels out of place anyways won't bother me. Hopefully the VA is mutable. I dislike VAs most of the time.
Seeing as I have read plenty ofnyour comments detailing your, quite frankly, insane backlog, let me tell you something...
Do NOT, under ANY circumstance, plan to play Disgaea 1 to 6 first before this one.
These games are EASILY 100+ hours per game, 200+ if you want to do a lot of the added content. These games are ridiculous. Leveling up your characters to level 999, your ITEMS to level 999, trust me, you do not want to get started on that.
Buy this game if you want, but expect a TIME sink. Also, there are cameos but the stories aren't that connected. You can easily start with 7.
And this is how you do voice acting. Voices that feel like they belong in the setting, with a script that feels like it belongs. None of this '90s Hollywood cool kids nonsense so many JRPGs are cursed with.
I'm glad there's an easier option included. I love the story, but I've outgrown the gameplay a little, I'm afraid.
@mlt That is 100% an issue of that is the best scan found online. Colour saturation and clarity should never be taken into account when voting on a Box Art Brawl, because especially with older titles, there is a big chance the art shown is from a photograph or scan, and not the source graphic, hence differences in picture quality.
@awp69 the Kemco then is a hugely different thing from the Kemco now. Sure, they released mediocre stuff back then as wekl, but also some really amazing stuff. Shame all they release now is basically low effort RPG Maker stuff.
@nhSnork Ahhh, I had one bootleg NES cartridge, and I LOVED it. Battle City was on it too, and it was amazing. A friend had another bootleg cartridge which felt even more exotic. Good times!
@timp29 Haha, no worries. There are multiple ways to interpret this entire story, and I am not even sure it's necessarily Grindr either... Though I would wager it would attract more male gamers than female ones, especially with the very apparent tongue-in-cheek name, but I also don't think there are that many people who are both Smash Bros gamers ánd gay.
Never heard of this before. Teacher here too but I didn't see my students do this. Did see the play another clicker once, but that was short lived.

@-wc- Don't know when you usually post comments on NL, but I'd wager it's during "idle moments"? Though those moments may be very short lived. I know I sometimes slouch off on my sofa and open up NL and TE to "recover" with. I should just rest entirely when I do though...
Right now I am in the train though, so might as well...
However, never ever will I waste my time with a clicker game. There are way better time wasters out there.

Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Super Adventure Island (SNES)
The correct answer is "not NA".
It's just plain awful.
Also, the US one says:
Super Adventure
Island
Which makes NO sense whatsoever. Awful. Just awful.

Re: "The Will To Resist Is In Your Hands" - Final Fantasy Tactics Creator Shares Heartfelt Message
Probably not a day 1 for me.
I bought Tactics Ogre day 1. Now, constantly half price.
I bought Unicorn Overlord when I finally saw a copy out in the wild, after months of being totally sold out everywhere. It is HEAVILY discounted now.
Same with Triangle Strategy.
And I barely touched those games, I never seem to find enough time to play.
