@OmnitronVariant Bad choice of words. What I meant to say was blatantly ripping off. Not the same as stealing, I know. My apologies. I'll amend my original statement.
Well, I wasn't on the side of Palworld, because they were blatantly ripping off stuff, but if true, this is taking things into a completely idiotic opposite kneejerk reaction from Nintendo.
Edited: Originally I said "blatantly stealing stuff", which is blatantly untrue.
@FlyingDunsparce You raise an excellent point. If one good game is in there and would have been sold seperately, score it as the rest being bonus. Unless the rest being there increases the price of the product, then it might be lower as well...
Anyways, I see others have continued the discussion in a lot of ways and right now I don't have the time to read all, but from the small parts I am reading, I seem to agree with most people here.
Anyways, I am unfortunately too busy to get into it, as much as I enjoy this kind of banter.
@FlyingDunsparce I feel like the score woud have been a 2 or 3 if the presentation wasn't good. So it sounds like a fair assessment. It's obviously the games being reviewed, and they gave some points for at least the presentation.
Had to watch a trailer to remember I played it. Vaguely remember it, but it looks like I probably rnjoyed it back in the day.
Both art is poor. I like the face but not the way the title looks on the US one, and the title is better on the EU one but othernthan that extremely bland.
@seinfeldfanatic Everyone, dude. It's not like it's secret information what platforms the game releases on.
So you don't have to tell SE to F themselves based on platform availability. You can, however, be annoyed by the S2 game key cart or the fact that the bigger platforms have a higher cap on town buildings.
And before you go "says who?", it's in the other OT 0 article on this site, and undoubtedly elsewhere, if you just do a quick search on the internet.
The difference in town size is a rather sad fact. Obviously we don't know enough of what the game will be to know whether double the buildings will mean double the fun or not, but still... Kinda sad.
I don't have the latest gen consoles, and I had my eyes set on the Switch 1 version, if I was going to buy it. Now, with this news, I may decide to forego it. OT1 was my absolute fave game of this past generation (even if I never managed to fully finish it), and OT2 was wonderful too. I liked 1 better, but still, it's a series that I really enjoyed, and I LOVE town building, but now I might decide to not even bother.
Not that I have any time for videogames these days anyways...
Voting on "Would I buy this going purely for box art?", which I did a lot back in the SNES days (including this game) and it has to be Europe. It is mysterious and screams that you will be in for a treat!
And people comment on how the EU art doesn't convey the game's vibe, and I will disagree. The only thing is the farmer feels like a silhouette of an older man. And sure, the game is more animé, but the box art doesn't detract from the vibe.
Sure, the others have the animé characters, but the farmland graphics are so boring.
@Picola-Wicola This is exactly the reason why I won't play this. 10 minutes just to get to the front door, an hour just to walk to the shed. It makes no sense and it makes me stressed.
Should I ever build a similar game (I won't, but... you know...) you can just select when you want to head into the next part of a day. Morning - Midday - Evening, take your sweet time on each.
@Hoshiko If you were a kid right now, the sense of wonder wouldn't be there. Had this been released as is in the 90s, sure, it would have blown our collective minds. But these days? They don't care for graphics. My kids are only playing Roblox, even though I have a pretty extensive library of games. They don't care. Roblox is easier. Ugly as can be, but easier.
Been on my wishlist for a million years, but I also haven't played a single videogame in about as long... where do people find time these days? Feels like I blink and a week's gone by. Sad face.
@Regelion1 What? I think you greatly misinterpreted my statement, because I wasn't saying the game is bad, just that the person I responded to can like games others deem bad and dislike games others deem good. I didn't mean Starfield is a bad game, but if it was, people are still allowed to like it.
I probably could have worded it a little better, but that is what I meant.
@the_beaver Well, you are entitled to love objectively bad games and hate objectively good ones... so if you like it, that's perfectly valid. If you don't, same.
@SuntannedDuck2 Okay, so blatantly copying and slightly altering character designs is not a rip-off, but blatantly copying gameplay design is? That is kind of what I am reading here.
Nobody would have batted an eye at that sheep monster if that was the only design they got inspired by. Nintendo doesn't hold the rights over cute animé looks, and a sheep is a sheep. The point is that almost every design was a slighlty altered copy, including the more recognizable amd unique ones.
And yes, I know that was not what the lawsuit is about. But the intent was for Nintendo to shut the game down, and the lawyers took the approach that they felt was best, and I guess they couldn't make the case strong enough going for the designs. I don't know.
But this reminds me of another hobby. Games Workshop completely altered their Warhammer game world when they basically killed off all of their "generic" fantasy factions and replaced them with more unique ones. They did so because they saw third parties making models for their game and they couldn't do anything about it, since they didn't own "generic elf" and "generic dwarf", so they had to make their own game more unique and trademarketable.
Kind of like that sheep. Doesn't explain to me how they couldn't go after the more blatant designs, but I guess there you have it.
But power to you for enjoying Palworld. I hardly played it so I am not bothered by the similarities, and Palland is cheaper so I am going to love playing that.
Played it a bit a few years back. It was insanity. It was short, agonizing (for my char) and fun. But I was predisposed at the time. Might get it on Switch.
Please jist stop. The original Donkey Kong was a game. Taking Mario from that ibto the Mushroom Kingdom was probably a literal mushroom trip from the devs. Everything after that was just more "horizon expanding" substances to come up with the next game.
As much as I adore continuity a d would wish for it, autistic as I am, it doesn't exist. Not with Mario, not with Zelda, not with Donkey Kong.
I mean, if a giant lizard kidnapped a princess, I wouldn't partake in go karts, tennis, baseball, soccer or any other sports with said lizard.
Wow, they want feedback? Are they going to USE the feedback? Because that'll be a first.
I am not interested in this game though. I don't care for hack and slash and I loathe time travel things... except for Dr. Who, that is... so this game isn't for me.
More hyped for OT zero, but I must admit, haven't touched any game the past few months already... If only I had time...
@Tyranexx It's a pretty amazing park. And again, I find it quite baffling how not many people outside of the Netherlands know abaout it. I personally love how even the queues are part of many of the rides. The queue in the Flying Dutchman is basically an experience unto itself.

@Tyranexx It is very much a fairy tale theme park. Quite a few things aren't even rides, just "experiences". Unfortunately they replaced my absolute fave, the haunted castle, and replaced it with something more action-packed, but I can't complain. Even most of the actual roller coasters have theme and background stories to them.
One piece of advice, make it at least a 2-day trip. The park is too big now for just one day. They also have a themed hotel and a bungalow park, but those are pretty expensive. Plenty hotels in the regiom though.
Oh, and there is a dedicated app that gives you directions and estimated wait times for all the rides. Prettty useful!
Anyways, US is better. Cool art and it conveys a fighting game. With the EU one, I'd expect a game like Populous, or Powermonger, or something... it's not a bad cover, it would pique my interest, but for the wrong genre.
@KociolekDoSyta I've noticed a definite shift in mentality there, from various sources. You can also see it in how developers speak now versus years ago.

@Samalik Fair enough, the road towards most ai is paved with theft.
I still love the ideas I generate while using ChatGPT. I've had a lot of fun using it for my hobbies.
But yeah, should I use it for commercial gains, it's basically stealing from others. It's a deliberately grey area, I suppose. Not a lot of people give it much thought.
@VoidofLight I get what you are saying, but it's kind of the same as asking a farmer not to use machinery and rely on hoes to do his farming. Or a cook to produce his own vegetables and spices in his own garden.
AI, if used correctly, is a time saver. But like any tool, there is a proper and good way to use it, and bad ways. I use it as an idea generator and I am having fun with it. I am not using it to mass produce nonsense, trying to flog it for a quick buck. Designs are still me, I just ask AI to give me the ingredients I want to cook up something nice.
@Samalik Realistic textures are almost always made from photographing actual textures. That is then no less "cheating" or "stealing".
And no, most artist don't make everything from scratch. They can also take existing things and spin it into something new. Most do. Not a lot of art isn't derivative. AI can simply speed up some processes. And yes, you can also use it to cheat, but people catch onto that pretty quickly.
I was just reading an article over at Time Extension on NES cover artwork, were games like Contra had covers which were simply redrawings of Arnie and Sly and such. Heck, a tech looking panel from Streets of Rage was lifted from an Akira manga cover. Stuff like that happens all the time. Some of your fave music artists have probably sampled stuff. Well... maybe not metal bands if that's your thing, but it's not like they made their own fx pedals to get the sound they want.
