It's time for our regular Monday fix of Nintendo Download Update news for Europe, with this week's releases not bursting at the seams with new content. We do have a particularly good Game Boy title on offer, however, while there are some tasty discounts including some of the best games for Wii U and one of the all-time NES greats. Let's get to it.
Wii U eShop Temporary Discounts
Assassin's Creed III (Ubisoft, €9.99 / £7.99 until 28th August, normally €19.99 / £15.99)

Wii U Virtual Console Promotion
The following discounts are available if either NES Remix or NES Remix 2 have been purchased on the same Wii U system.
Super Mario Bros. 3 (Nintendo, €3.49 / £2.44 until 21st August, normally €4.99 / £3.49)
Donkey Kong 3 (Nintendo, €2.49 / £1.74 until 21st August, normally €4.99 / £3.49)

3DS Virtual Console
Mega Man III (Capcom, €3.99 / £3.59) — The run of Mega Man games in Europe continues with the third Game Boy entry, with Dr. Wily's latest masterplan involving the capture of an oil rig. Drawing elements from the third and fourth in the series on NES, this is a strong entry on the beloved portable, as we explained in our Mega Man III review.
3DS Retail Download
Me & My Pets 3D (TREVA Entertainment, €29.99 / £24.99) — Yet another pet-sim for the 3DS, this one with a hefty price and a physical retail version apparently available. We were scathing of this game, however, in our Me & My Pets 3D review.
3DS eShop Temporary Discount
Hotel Transylvania (Avanquest, €12.99 / £9.99 until 28th August, normally €19.99 / £17.99)

2 new games , very bad week.
This is a pretty good week for discounts though!
Rayman Legends and Child of Light for me!
Wow. 50 % rayman, 50 % nothing.
So many discounts, so little time...
Already bought rayman physical but going to buy digitally. I knew it was a mistake buying it just last month. I'm gonna buy Child of Light too.
Also NO WiiU VC?!? Unacceptable! Castlevania 3? Megaman X3???
Man, if I had some spare cash I'd tottaly be grabbing AC and Zombie U! But alas, I have to save for comic con Scotland.
Digital 4 Lyfe Rayman Legends me up, yo!
I'd get the Assassin's Creed games on Wii U if we had guarantee of all the DLC, and the upcoming games... no point getting used to playing them on Wii U. May try Splinter Cell Blacklist but I'm not exactly starved of something to play right now so I probably won't bother.
If you don't own Rayman Legends and Child of Light though, this is your week.
I hope there are no strings attached to the discounts this time. Last week, to get Abyss for €.5 it turned out that you must own Unepic.
I already have Rayman Legends but I might get the digital copy just for the sake of having it available on the system at any time. Child of Light is teasing me as well but for some reason I never felt as 'charmed' by it as a lot of people who seem to love the game, would appreciate if someone could give me some insight.
I'm undecided if I'll get ZombiU and Splinter Cell too to go along with CoL and Rayman..
@OrangeCluster Child of Light is ace. It's a platform-RPG, with gorgeous artwork, a haunting soundtrack and characters that insist on talking in rhyme. It has an interesting cast-interrupt mechanism with the fighting. It's really good, just buy it
@chrisy Thank you for the help, are there any 'strings' attached to it though, as in DLC?
Why are they releasing Megaman piecemeal instead of all at once and spending the update slots on the 3DS for something genuinely NEW in the remaining weeks? This is all stuff the NA region has had for a while now, after all.
I would have actually download splinter cell as that's a good price.
Wii U pathetic storage capacity means I can't though.
@OrangeCluster There is some DLC, Oculi packs and things that aren't necessary. There's a Golem pack which is part of the deluxe version, which gives an extra character and a bit more story. That's quite nice, but not essential.
If the ZombiU discount comes to the US e-shop, I'd get that.
Dam, I realized that these Ubisoft games are expensive. It will come with a 500GB or 1TB hard drive price tag.
@kobashi100
Well, the external drives aren't that expensive. I bought my 1TB WD Elements for 78e for WiiU. There it sits, quietly and ready for the games.
The crappy thing for the games are that you cannot buy and then download later, you cannot buy a big game if you don't have the space.
So Ubi is having a sale again. Too bad I own AV 3 and 4, ZombiU and Rayman Legends. Legends is such a great game!
Also, Child of Light - it's just wonderful!
(ps. lower the price of Ken's Rage!)
Well I just sacrificed a hard drive to be able to download W101 so space is no longer an issue....
Jeeez, tough call between Child of Light, Blacklist and Black Flag... I really should be saving my cash but ...VALUE
At least the deal is active for two weeks rather than the usual 1 week.
@Finntendo
What, you can't buy and download later without having enough space? CoL and maybe Rayman only then if I could free up some space. I hope my 128GB SSD with only 1 USB connector will work.
Going to get a few of the Ubisoft games. Hopefully they'll release more for the WiiU if we buy their existing games...maybe..please?
Some really exellent discounts, brilliant timing as I get paid on Friday
Might get DK3, Metroid, Wrecking Crew, Gravity Badgers &/or Blacklist. Everything else I'm interested in I already own. Lots of discounts!!
I knew it was worth holding out on ACIV. God bless Ubisoft and their discounts.
@outburst
Yup, I noticed this on Christmas while I tried to download RE:R Thankfully local store and 30% off everything between Christmas and New Year and hubby bought external drive before the offer ended
I think it's the only time I've yelled at my console and Ninty.
@OrangeCluster Child of Light is boring and repetitive game with loads of charm and amazing artwork. It is also on the short side and has no replay value once you end it. It's only compelling if you play on the hard mode
On topic: the ****? Nintendo, we needs game you know? VC would be cool since...er...there are no games? so...oh, I see, you don't want my money, that's fine!
I think it's ridiculous that people are buying Rayman Legends physically and digitally. It just seems like a TOTAL waste of money to me, but okay.
Upset with this weeks eShop news. I'm waiting for a Guacamelee sale and at least some new VC games. I'll just have to do with CoL.
Child of Light and AssCreed 4 look the most interesting in that list.
Also of course if some have not yet got ZombiU or Rayman Legends, with these prices you definitely should.
The Ubisoft sale could be compelling and for me is an acceptable replacement for VC this week.
AC4, Splinter Cell, Rayman and Zombie U are of interest and yet to be played or purchased. Perhaps this week will be the week for one or more of them.
Lets see on thursday.
First, Mega Man III, brilliant game. Then, Metroid on discount
ZombiU and Rayman Legends are must buys at those prices! I'm seriously considering getting digital copies as well
the Virtual Console Promotion really makes me want SNES Remix games so we can get SNES Virtual Console Promotion and I can buy my favourite SNES games for the umpteenth time, without paying silly prices..
I just paid full price for Child of Light, but I'll get Rayman Legends and Assassin's Creed IV. And maybe Splinter Cell. So still money saved.
No Wii U Virtual Console listed. I wonder if there'll actually be a surprise release that hasn't been found kind of like Super Mario Kart's release on NA Wii U VC, if not then extremely disappointing.
I've been waiting for Child of Light discount. I'll probably pick up Assassin's Creed IV too.
Still waiting for darksiders 2 discount. might get splinter cell though.
Oh dear. My external 2TB HDD was just waiting for these discounts. I have the disc versions for a lot of these but at these prices! You can't beat the convenience of having it al available in the Wii U menu.
Going to need a Wii U menu update soon. Bring us folders! The menu is getting too cramped.
That's very strange, no Wii U Eshop or VC games? I'm sure this is the first time this has happened.
The discounts are very nice though but i already own all the games i care about on that list.
Edit: Remembered its Gamescom this week, i'm hoping they have a surprise download for us this week.
So I'm really thinking about ac4, but not sure yet. Is it far less boring than ac3 was? The reviews seem to imply that it is much better than ac3 for all the right reasons but I'm unsure whether or not this is still the case.
Really hope the Child of Light discount makes it to the US.
@Finntendo
Thanks. I just tried connecting my 128gig SSD without Y cable and I was able to format it. I guess I'll use that one just to buy the ones I'm interested in and get a proper hard disk later with higher capacity.
On topic, I'll get DK3 and Wrecking Crew as well since I already have SMB3 and Metroid. Not interested on Baloon Fight and the rest. Still, WHY NO WII U VC NINTENDO?!? HOW COULD YOU ALLOW NOT RELEASING ONE?!?
@erv It IS better than ACIII but it doesn't make it a good game either. You'll get awe at the first 15 hours but then it gets repetitive and boring as the flaws in the mechanics are very evident. I'd go for Deus Ex or Splintercell (if you like stealth games)
Hoping those discounts make it to North America.
@erv Personally i loved the sea combat and boarding ships but hated the insta fail stealth/follow missions. I don't get hung up on visuals but AC4 is technically terrible it was actually giving me headaches due to the frame drops and scaled back textures. Its hard to explain but when you play it you'll likely notice it, when your at sea however the issue clears up for the most part.
Just went and bought both AC games on Friday as physical copies. Never mind, at least they won't take up the precious disk space.
I hope Zombi U and Splinter Cell got only couple of %'s because every one already had them.
What about Shovel Knight and all the other shiny Games like Pier Solar n'stuff?! Man, I am very angry right now. ((
Double dipping on these Ubisoft titles.. fools with money here seriously.
My money is safe for another week (until SMT IV) though I will say that €15 for AC IV is very good at that price and would be equal to a steam sale price.
To anyone who didn't play ZombiU or Rayman Legends yet, DO IT! Both games are great for Wii U, and they both prove a lot of fun when playing local multiplayer, with both players doing different stuff. Single player for both is full of great moments that will last in your gamer's memory forever. And they're both pretty friggin' "hardcore" when played to the fullest.
Literally nothing for Wii U, except for some pretty great discounts. I would be all over Rayman Legends, if it wasn't 12 gigabytes! I'll just take Giana Sisters as a consolation.
@S3OL Why on Earth do you think it's ridiculous that people are buying Rayman Legends physically or digitally? I think it is ridiculous that YOU think it is ridiculous that people are buying this awesome game.
AC4 is incredible, this is an amazing value for it. Get it if you don't have it already!
Child of Light looks like a good deal as i dont think ive seen a review less than 9/10 for it plus it hasn't been out that long, for me though i'll wait for it to be discounted on PSN as its cross buy and i'd like the free PS4 copy for when i eventually pick one up, but if i didn't have a PS3 i'd be all over Child of Light on Thursday that for sure.
Wished for more Wii U VC games but I'll go for Child of Light this week. Why is the ACIII DLC never discounted?
The reason there is no new Wii U VC this week, is that there is going to be N64 VC released this week for Wii U with a special late announcement, the 1st 3 games will release this week: Super Mario 64, Wave Race, and Pilot Wings 64
That's a good price for AC: Black Flag! Shame about the lack of 3DS discounts though...
Does Nintendo ever discount North American NES titles?
@Ootfan98
source?
@OneBagTravel
Very rarely.
Metroid seems like a title I should pick up with that discount. Slowly but surely getting the original franchise entries!
Ass Creed IV, Gravity Badgers and Child of Light for me!
Edit: And Rayman Legends!
@ikki5 Brown or Red?
Wow, those Ubisoft-Discounts are really damn nice and with only a few exceptions indeed below the retail-prices! At the moment I have neither time nor space for those games, but surely some great offers are among them.
@Ootfan98 You mean during Wednesday's Nintendo Direct?
@Cosats: You think that I'm ridiculous? Ridiculous that I don't want to spend my money on a game that I already have? That makes no sense. I'm perfectly fine with saving £11.99 on a game that I already own and enjoy VERY much.
I'm not doubting that the game is great, I just don't want to buy it again because as I said, it makes no logical sense to buy a game twice.
Just another week in which I'll be waitiing for those discounts to come to NA and thrusday morning I'll be disappointed.
Nothing for me this week, guess that gives me some time to play something from my back log.
@shibbyduckegg @PvtOttobot c blacklist is a superb game dont miss it
@outburst
As long as the console sees that you have enough space somewhere, you can buy and then download later. So if you wanted, you can plug in your SSD, buy the games, cancel the downloads, and then download them to your console or another storage device at your own convenience.
@Nintenjoe64
I will never buy a Ubisoft game at launch, because you know every game it publishes will go on sale within a couple months afterward, then clearance sale within four or five months.
@burninmylight
Yeah thanks for the info. I'll do that. Anyway, same for me. I don't buy Ubisoft games at launch especially those with Season Passes and DLCs. I bought ZombiU for 6 bucks new. Rayman for 30€ which I regret now. I'll buy Child of Light and Rayman on Thursday and sell the physical copy but I don't think I'll buy ZombiU.
@Porky Exactly.
@Ootfan98 We don't even properly have DS VC yet (Brain Training was removed from the eshop after the free period) so if anything it would be something like LoZ Spirit Tracks, NSMB and Metroid Prime Hunters
If this sale comes to NA I will probably pick up a few
Man I really hope this discounts comes to NA.... I really want to get alot of games on there.
Funny thing, I looked at Zombi U yesterday. It's allready a pretty awesome deal, now I absolutely need to get it.
Dang, I just bought Child of Light!
I love these promotions but sometimes they just teach you hard handedly to wait for the promotions to come before buying...
I could consider the Assassin's Creed 4, but I dont have the hard drive for it, and I bet you could soon buy a used disc for the price. Now as for that Mario bros. 3...
Wow! I'm really beginning to wish I never spent £50 on Assassin's Creed IV on launch. It's not that I don't want to support Ubisoft, but that price would have been very tempting. I wouldn't have thought twice.
Megaman's face on PAL MMIII's cover wasn't so ugly!
Getting all discounted NES games except Mario 3.
Hope these ar US too..
Never got any interest in these eshop titles.
Child of light for me.
Having only recently bought a 2TB HDD (£59.99, Dixon's) in order to liberate enough space to take advantage of the free game offer with MK8, I'm finally spoilt for choice and not confined to 'just' physical retail purchases. With that in mind, I'll certainly be picking up ACIV (maybe ACIII too), Splinter Cell and ZombiU on Thursday. I already have the fabulous Rayman Legends and Child of Light.
I sold 4 of my disc versions. When I include the Premium points 'cash back'. My switch to digital costs me 11 Euro for 4 games (AC III, AC IV, Rayman and Splinter Cel). Feels good.
If Nintendo had been giving discounts like this every week, I'd be more willing to excuse the lack of games.
