Re: Assassin's Creed Odyssey Is Coming To Nintendo Switch, But There's A Catch

pinta_vodki

Have any of the whiners actually tried streaming gaming?

I mean, I live in the North of Russia, with Playstation Now not even launched officially here. The closest servers are in Germany like 2000 km away. And I've happily completed The Last of Us, Beyond, Heavy Rain and Uncharted 1-3 without any noticeable lag.

Would it be cool to own a PS4 and those games? Sure. But am I glad to have experienced some of the best games in the industry? You bet.

Re: Is 'Switch Tax' A Real Concern, Or Just A Myth?

Well, the US has basically nothing to complain about then with those 10%. In Russia, the region-free nature of the Switch has played a cruel joke on it. Steam games are often region-locked, and thus have regional prices, which can be 2-3 times lower than Europe or the US.

Re: Review: Tiny Hands Adventure (Switch eShop)

@SmaggTheSmug Well, it's a loose-loose situation. "Tiny Hands" remind people of a certain acting president, while "Tiny Arms" would remind people of ARMS. As for me, they could've just called it Borti by the name of the protagonist and it would be just fine.

BTW, same situation in Russian, "ruka" can mean a hand, a palm, an arm or any other part. I've seen so many mistakes based on this it's crazy.

Re: Diablo III Eternal Collection Officially Announced For Nintendo Switch

The guy in the trailer sucks until... MKBHD comes to he rescue.

Honestly though, gotta buy this for sure. Finished the original D3, but never got to expansion packs or such. Was so fun playing co-op, almost as good as like Diablo II. (Let's be honest, few things are as as good as Diablo 2.)

Plus, if it sells well, maybe there's a chance for Overwatch on the Switch?

Re: Nintendo Applies For Hogan's Alley Trademark In Japan, Could This NES Classic Make A Comeback?

Oh. My. God. Somehow I never came across this game in all my years as a conscious Nintendo fan, but now that I've seen the screenshot, I got such a vivid flashback playing it when I was about 6 or 7. Such a weird feeling. It's like the memory's been buried somewhere for 20 something years, much deeper than simply "oh I forgot it existed". Like I actually felt for a second the way I felt when I was 7. Hard to explain!

Re: Review: Pokémon Quest (Switch eShop)

I'm surprised the review didn't even mention the controls. And god, it feels so clumsy tapping on the screen. I'm never sure how to grip my Switch to do this. Do I disconnect my Joy-Cons and put them aside, which is really weird, or do I play with them on? But then my thumbs aren't long enough to reach all the areas. Or do I grip it underneath with one hand and play with the other?

Sure, you can play it with buttons, but that onscreen cursor is so awkward you can tell the game was designed with touchscreen controls in mind.

As for the game.. yeah, it's ok, but surely better suited for mobile devices. As an iPhone timekiller it could indeed be a 7/10, but as a Switch title? Nah, i'd give it 5/10 at best.

It would be far cooler to get something like co-op Rumble games. And besides, I'm worried that if Switch is seen as a good place for f2p games, the Store is gonna be flooded with trash (which is kinda happening already).

Re: Video: Resident Evil 7 Cloud Brings Both Good and Bad to Nintendo Switch

pinta_vodki

This could be great, but only if it's centralised. Like PS Now (which I've used with great pleasure on my Mac to complete such classics as The Last of Us, Heavy Rain and Uncharted), which is run by Sony, and we can say with much confidence that it will close only if Sony goes out of business.

This is what Nintendo should've included in their upcoming online service (or maybe introduced as a separate product, again like PS Now). Then I wouldn't hesitate to buy it and be sure it sticks for quite some time. But if every company does it on their own, it's a recipe for disaster and servers going offline in a couple of years.

As for the performance though, no worries here. PS Now isn't officially available in Russia, yet I signed up through a workaround, and playing on European servers (the closest of which is in Germany as far as I can tell, several thousands kilometres away) is pretty much a seamless experience except for occasional lag that doesn't disturb me much.

Got it for iOS, but it didn't quite stick. Maybe I should try again. But probably won't double dip, iOS was like 12 bucks in the Russian App Store, while Nintendo still doesn't get that thing that is regional pricing.

But meanwhile I would love a compilation of older games for the Switch. Tried the first one out on an emulator for just half an hour, but boy it was good!

Re: Review: Immortal Redneck (Switch eShop)

pinta_vodki

Wow, great review, Chris! Not to bash some other writers on this site, but some recent reviews were really vague and nondescript. Yours, on the other hand, besides being written with wit and humour, gives a clear understanding of all the pros and cons, so the score seems completely justified.

And I gotta say, the game seems pretty good. Kinda like Serious Sam meets Redneck Rampage, and I sure love me some pure arcade shooting fun.

Re: Miitomo, Nintendo's Original Mobile App, Passes Away

pinta_vodki

Gotta weigh in just to offset those negative comments!

So sad to see the Miis go away. Maybe those of you with "true gamer" friends can just play SSB to their heart's content, but for people like me, there was nothing better to introduce video games at a party than Wii Sports, Wii Party or Mario&Sonic at the Olympics, all games with great Mii support. Heck, even creating a Mii was both a great introduction to controls and helluva lot of fun!

I still hope Nintendo releases something like Wii Party on the Switch. Or at least give us Mario Party, please, Nintendo!
