Taiko no Tatsujin: Drum ‘n’ Fun! was finally confirmed to be releasing in the west towards the end of last month, with the game finding its rhythm on a Switch console near you on 2nd November. If you can't wait that long, though, you could always grab yourself a copy from the Japanese Switch eShop, making use of the English language patch which has been released this week.
Yes, by setting up a Japanese eShop account (just use a second email address to create an online account for that region), you can already buy the full release and play the whole thing in English. Current consensus suggests that the western release will keep the same soundtrack as its eastern counterpart, so the game will theoretically be pretty much identical - unless things change between now and release, of course.
If you want to see what the game looks like in action, ContraNetwork has uploaded this early look at the English patch working its magic on the Japanese version of the game. Now we can finally read what the instructions were trying to tell us!
Have you already got a Japanese copy? Are you holding out for the official western release? Let us know you Taiko drumming plans in the comments below.

I've had game since launch. I always enjoy the Taiko Drum games.
But you've all seen my #LengendaryStairs from when it came out that the Kongo Bongos could be used.
Didn't know the patch was out now. Will be grabbing it so finally can know how the fudgins those party games work.
That’s odd. Was the english patch an early decision before they decided to bring the title to western shores or would we be lucky enough to get two versions of the game with the western release to later get a japanese language patch down the track?
@Jawessome the English patch was happening before the western release announced. This was due to the game releasing in Asia this month and games in Asia always come with an English language option.
As for the Japan language options on the international release. I'm sure it will be in the game because it makes sense to have it there.
some straight up japan crazyness right there
Great, I’m looking forward to understanding the menu options I hadn’t quite worked out. Then maybe I’ll switch it back as I like the aesthetic.
I’m more excited for the Ghibli DLC though, I’ve already bought some Japanese E Shop points in anticipation.
@JoeDiddley Wait, there's a Ghibli DLC coming? Man, I definitely have to import it now.
@pinta_vodki I hope so, as reported by Nintendosoup. The game has a couple of Ghibli tracks and the DLC should have another 5
Been doing fine without it but it's neat they still thought about this though.
It's been around 10 years since I last played a Taiko game and I'm pretty excited to start modding my tatakon and make my own bachi sticks.
Um.....
Sorry, i DELIST this Taiko from my shopping list.
I noticed there is ONE song that Ruined my Hype. (Instant Rejection)
Maybe next Taiko again on Switch i might consider.
@Anti-Matter Which song?
@FeverKid
I found from Anime section / Pop section.
I can't tell you specifically because this is my privacy. Something that made me Turned Off.
@GauBan : Not always. Some Asian games only include Chinese/Japanese (such as the recent Closed Nightmare).
@Silly_G but more often than not if a game gets an Asia release it will have English subs.
But also a number of Japanese developers do put English language into their games so that they can claim the tax breaks offered by the Japanese government.
Waiting, waiting, waiting impatiently for my import. I have my drum. I have the patch. Now I just need the game....
I've not tried the patch but it is cool that they did this. More Taiko for everyone!!!
