Wow, used to sink hours into it in school. The most mind-blowing thing was watching replays of the high-score players. I just couldn't fathom that level of skill or ingenuity.
Wow, for once there are more commenters anticipating the hatred for Brie or just whining about pointless articles than commenters actually hating her! Seems like Brie exposure therapy is starting to pay off, haha, nice move, NL!
Looks super cool, but... is it just that one level? Can't imagine it taking more than a couple hours. Was really hoping this area would be like a hub world with gateways to actual levels.
I'm in lesbians with the movie, so I'm super stoked to finally play the game. When it came out originally I only had a Wii and I was so sad, so very very sad.
Props to Kate for slipping several Scott Pilgrim references in there! Let me take you for a ride in my garbage truck!
Happy New Year, guys! This site has probably one of the best and friendliest communities out there, and it's a joy to come here. Thank you all for that!
Really stoked to finally have some info on the second trilogy for Switch. I even bought Apollo Justice for the iPad, but it's not the same... Hope they roll it out soon, it's been 1.5 years since the original collection!
Definitely excited for the Great Ace Attorney as well, but releasing the second trilogy first would be a logical choice IMO.
Oh wow, random dream destinations! I assumed those would be there from the start and was pretty disappointed when that didn't happen, basically never used the dream feature after that. Now we're cooking with gas!
I remember reading up on some Wii games when I first bought my Wii in early 2009. And then coming back to the WiiWare review website I liked pretty much, only to find out it had merged with some other websites. Been here ever since, almost every day. Rarely in the forums, but always in the comments section. It has become pretty tough not to get lost in the amount of comments, though. Maybe it's time you made nested comments a thing here on NL!
Like others in the comments, I would love a retrospective article. I wonder what Corby (aka 7/10) is doing, as well as that guy who moved to work at Nintendo (sorry, can't remember his name) and other former writers.
Finished it streaming on PS Now to my MacBook. The experience is totally worth it. An absolute gem of a game. (As all Remedy games are, basically.)
I may be in a minority here and this may be harsh, but. Those people who refuse to buy this game because... in 10 years it won't work? Guys, what's more important for you, is playing and enjoying the game and letting it affect/inspire you on a personal level or... owning a box with a cart on the shelf? I just don't get this materialism.
I don't understand people bashing on Sony in the comments.
We have so little info to go on that any assumption we make may be false.
Was it Sony who decided to censor it? Why not the developers? Couldn't the developers have self-censored themselves because they thought it would be seen badly in the west? Could Sony have done it for the sake of some YouTube algorithm or rating system? Could someone have wanted to keep some intrigue before the final release?
The only fact we know is that it will come out uncensored. So what are you all whining about? You can have your opinion on whether that's good or bad, but please don't go on babbling about censorship.
Sorry if that was rude, but I'm just so tired of people jumping to conclusions first and thinking (or not thinking) later.
Wait, that game is from Yuji Naka? They didn't mention that in the direct, did they? Seems weird, he is a pretty well-known name in gaming. Not Miaymoto level famous, but still.
I'm kinda interested now, though the trailer didn't grab me, to be honest. I don't get the fascination Japanese developers have with this carnival & masks vibe. Though that's probably because its exotic European stuff to them, the way Japan is exotic for us.
Well, that was mostly an obviously useless video, but... no Mii Head in Galaxy?? Super bummed. No buy. Booting up the old Wii. SAD!
(Obviously not, but I'm honestly really bummed out that there's such little Mii support in modern titles. I get that Nintendo's trying to distance itself from that super-casual past. But I loved the Miis to death.)
Pretty sure that's because there's plans to add N64 and eventually newer consoles to the Nintendo Switch Online service.
So a hypothetical kid in Sept 2021 will just buy a Switch and subscribe to NSO.
Really though, even if it's just marketing, I have nothing against it. I don't have time to play all the games to death as is. There's plenty of stuff in life that happens just once. It's sad that you only get one high school graduation or something, but that's just how it is. Super Mario 35 could be one of those experiences, and we'll reminisce about it sitting by the fireplace when we're old, playing Super Mario Cyberpunk or something.
Did anyone say it was going to be a limited number of copies? As far as I see, it's just a limited time offer. Chillax, people, sheesh. I'm sure Nintendo will print a boatload of copies, so everyone who wants one gets one.
Even if something crazy happens, and your store runs out of copies, there's always digital.
(Not to mention, I'm like 90% sure the limited time offer is because Nintendo Switch Online will add N64 next year, with other consoles to follow, so there'll always be that.)
Nuclear Throne is one of my favourite games ever. Those two years of active Early Access development were a joy to follow. Super Crate Box is a gem of an arcade platformer.
Totally recommend people spend some time checking them out instead of waisting that time reading the comments here.
I would love the remake of Sands of Time. That game blew my mind when it released.
Although, thinking about it, there was a remake of Karateka (also made by PoP creator Jordan Mechner) some years back. So maybe it actually is a remake of the original game.
yeah, no. I think I've seen the same image in a recent news piece on the Japanese channel about a summer sale. So, it's basically a summer Mario. No more, no less.
What's the difference between this and a game like That Dragon, Cancer? Or This War of Mine? All of them can trigger some nasty feelings, but isn't that the purpose of artistic expression? The fact that it's in a form of a game doesn't degrade it.
@Grot oh man, I've missed the fact that the original Layton games have come out on mobile. Thought it was only the Katrielle one. Gotta certainly give it a go, since I've only played the first one on an emulator. iPhone should be much more comfortable.
Preoderdered via that NSO voucher thing. Played a bit last night. Seems great. Two things come to mind:
1) I think many people miss the fact that it's still a first-party Nintendo game. The level of polish is just incredible, and it compensates for a lot of shortcomings (if there are any). The HD rumble is utilised to the full, love it. The folded-hands motion controls are like the best of the Wii fun, but without overdose. The writing is really funny. Plus, it is beautiful and runs like a charm.
2) Just be a grown-up and accept the change in the series. We may get a Mario RPG in the future, but that will surely be via the M&L RPG series.
P.S. I'm surprised no one made a joke about the battles being TURN-based yet.
@nhSnork it shows that you didn't have the Wii. The left hand nunchuck controller used to plug into the main WiiMote, so they were not wirelessly separate controllers. The weirder thing was plugging a Classic Controller into the WiiMote...
Oh man, you did it, now I suddenly got nostalgic for the Wii and have to dig it up and play a round.

Re: Soapbox: There Might Be A Bright Side To Mario's March 31st Doomsday, After All
But isn't it about time that Mario died
Dude, wouldn't it be cool if Mario got its moody dark game, like that Logan movie.
Re: Video: Are These The Two Worst Games On Nintendo Switch?
"Depths of the Eshop" truly needs to be a regular series.
Re: Blizzard Arcade Collection Announced For Nintendo Switch, Out Today
Haven't played Rock'n'Roll Racing much, but The Lost Vikings is and amazing game I'd recommend to anyone. Blackthrone is pretty cool, too.
Re: Open World Vaporwave Detective Game, Paradise Killer, Is 30% Off On Switch
I thought the word "vaporware" means a long-awaited game stuck in development hell/cancelled? Or are you coining a new use case, haha.

"Paul W. S. Anderson's commercially successful film series"
I like the way you put it.

Re: Super Mario 3D World Trailer Shows Off Two Minutes Of Bowser's Fury Gameplay
@sanderev Yeah, hopefully this is huge! You can see some structures in the distance there.
I'm definitely getting strong BotW vibes off of this, with the open world and that giant boss fight.

Huh? Did the writer read the article he just linked to? It was Nintendo who convinced the publisher. Not the publisher convincing the developers.

Re: Nintendo Enlists Brie Larson And Awkwafina To Expand Switch's Reach This Christmas
At this point i'm starting to think Nintendo is simply trolling the NL comments section with these ads.
Also, I'm surprised no one mentioned Room, a widely praised 2015 movie starring Brie Larson. Enjoyed it a lot, highly recommended.
Re: Video: Check Out These Hyrule Warriors: Age Of Calamity Ads Now Airing On Japanese TV
@TG16_IS_BAE Should I astonish you with the fact that different people like different games? So what seems shallow to you might me a dream for others.
Re: Mini Review: Mad Rat Dead - A Delightful Mix Of Rhythm Action And Platforming
Nice review. But you should've gone with "Rat Dead Redemption" for the subtitle.

Re: Video: Of Course You Want To Watch Paper Mario: The Origami King's Launch Trailer

Also, King Olly is such a Christo, wrapping that castle.
