Re: More Rumours Add Weight to Talk of a SNES Classic Mini

pinta_vodki

Remember, Nintendo is all about driving customers to their main platforms, Switch and 3DS. That's the strategy they quote all the time when speaking about smartphone games. Or the way they saw a bump in 3DS sales after Pokemon Go.

I'm pretty sure they see the "limited edition" appeal the same way. It generates buzz around Nintendo and drives customers to buy a Switch or a 3DS. I think we'll see a SNES Mini, but in that same period Ninty's gonna announce VC for Switch. And boom, all those games that you wanted the Mini consoles for, plus online connectivity and more, are available on Switch! Go buy that!

Which, of course, will be a lot more profitable for the big N in the long run. The Mini costs what, like one Switch game? And a potential buyer is gonna buy at least a Switch plus several games.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's Big Switch and 3DS Reveals at E3 on Day One?

pinta_vodki

Guys, why so little excitement for Rocket League??

I think Rocket League should be considered the main announcement, because:

1) It shows Nintendo/Psyonix listened to the audience demand and made it happen.

2) It's a third party AAA title that's on all major platforms. If RL can make the jump, so can others.

3) Its AWESOME. I you just gotta try it. For all my dislike of all things football, just adding cars to it makes it so freaking cool.

Re: Nintendo's Online Service For Switch Will Offer "Ongoing Access" To Classic Games

pinta_vodki

As good as classic NES titles are, I'm really getting a bit tired of them. I mean, I've had access to them for almost 10 years on the Wii, and of course before that on the actual NES.

Plus, what's so compelling about online multiplayer on a console promoting local co-op??

I'd gladly pay some bucks more for a collection of best N64/Gamecube/Wii titles or current Switch titles like PS4 does.

Re: Rumour: Artwork for Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle Posted Online

pinta_vodki

This looks amazing. Just the shake-up Mario needs. For all its amazing and bold hardware moves, Nintendo is often quite conservative with its games. This would bring some very welcome craziness to Mario.

Some sketchy language in those presentations, but if this is an internal document made by a French team, that could easily be the case.

Wonder what co-op would be if there's no direct control.

Re: Rumour: Russian Nintendo Store Leaks Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Bundle

pinta_vodki

I'm from Russia, and this seems legit since it's on the official store. The only way it's not is if someone hacked the site. I doubt it though since they haven't pulled it in 10 hours.

Oh, and the added cost compared to the non-bundled Switch is nice as well. MK8 is listed as 3699 rubles on its own and 2499 with the bundle. Saving you about 20 bucks!

For some reason I get a feeling it may be limited to certain countries. Well, since I'm in Russia this may be what pushes me into finally buying the Switch.

Re: Super Mario Run Kicks Off February With Gold Goombas Mega Event

pinta_vodki

Played it regularly until last week when I reached the Peach Cake item. Lots of fun, and I still have black coins to collect.

The only thing I wish for is some more interactivity with unlocked items. You open the bonus game houses pretty early on, and that's it. Why does the Peach Cake only bounce harder? Why doesn't it have a level or a mini game inside? Feels a bit anticlimactic, tbh.

Re: Switch Will Succeed By Offering Something You Can't Get On PlayStation Or Xbox, Says Randy Pitchford

pinta_vodki

Man, I disagree on several levels...

1) Maybe if they invested in building a Switch port of Borderlands, it would boost the switch audience and they'd have more people buying the next release. It's the same chicken-and-egg conundrum we had with the Wii U: fewer people buy it because there are few great games, but developers of great games wait till there are more people buying the console!

2) He treats the Switch solely as a handheld. First, it's not. Nintendo treats it as a home device. And second, even if it is a handheld, why would he assume people don't want to play big games on the go? Just look at the major launch title! Legend of Zelda is not your typical 'pick up and play for 5 minutes' titile!

This attitude just makes me sad, when I think other developers might think the same.

Re: Miis Are Still Part Of Nintendo's Future, But They're No Longer Compulsory

pinta_vodki

Miis are invaluable for party games. Me and my friends got a lot of laughs from their expressions in Wii Party. Or in greatly under-appreciated Wii Music. Or just things like "Hey, look who's watching you play!" in Wii Sports, when you spot a familiar Mii in the audience, and having two completely ridiculously looking Miis made it even funnier.

I actually hope Nintendo would integrate the Switch with Miitomo somehow. Like, if my friend has Miitomo on his smartphone, he could import his Mii quickly into my Switch.

Re: Editorial: Pricing Blunders Have Distorted The Narrative Around Nintendo Switch

pinta_vodki

Spot on article. I'm still planning to get a Switch, but Nintendo has largely disappointed me in their presentation.

Playing it safe doesn't cut it anymore. They could've gone all in, cutting the price to 250, having a pack-in title, announcing awesome Virtual Console and a lucrative paid online service. People would rush to buy the console. The profits would've come later with a larger install base and consequently more games sold.

Darn it, Nintendo. I'm simply sad my favourite company is screwing up that much.

Re: Nintendo Switch Won't Have Miiverse Or StreetPass

pinta_vodki

But will it at least tie the Nintendo Account to Miitomo? To show your avatar in games and stuff like that?

And how does the release of Miitomo figure in with seeming disappearance of the Miis? I hope it's just that they weren't used in the titles shown. I'd very much like Switch Party or something like that. Wii Party was played to death by me & my friends, and Miis and their expressions played a huge role in its appeal.

Re: Nintendo Switch Will Be a Single-Screen Experience

pinta_vodki

That's fine by me. What's more interesting is whether it will support Wii Remotes. If not for the cursor (I don't expect there to be a port for a sensor bar in the Switch), but at least as extra controllers.

I hope there's support for up to 8 controllers like the Wii U, so it would be extremely helpful for lots of people if they supported Wii Remotes.

Re: Site News: Happy "Nintendo Life" Anniversary!

pinta_vodki

Wow, congrats!

Four years ago was when I bought my Wii, and then I found this awesome website about Nintendo. Actually I don't remember which one, but I guess it was VC Reveiews. And then — whoa! — when I visited it again it was something completely different called Nintendo Life. Been in love ever since, you guys have the best writers and the best community ever.
