@BornInNorway81 The Hololens has a camera that can record in full view. The small window is needed to fit your eyes. For others it can record "fullscreen".
Remember, Nintendo is all about driving customers to their main platforms, Switch and 3DS. That's the strategy they quote all the time when speaking about smartphone games. Or the way they saw a bump in 3DS sales after Pokemon Go.
I'm pretty sure they see the "limited edition" appeal the same way. It generates buzz around Nintendo and drives customers to buy a Switch or a 3DS. I think we'll see a SNES Mini, but in that same period Ninty's gonna announce VC for Switch. And boom, all those games that you wanted the Mini consoles for, plus online connectivity and more, are available on Switch! Go buy that!
Which, of course, will be a lot more profitable for the big N in the long run. The Mini costs what, like one Switch game? And a potential buyer is gonna buy at least a Switch plus several games.
Is it that cool though? I'd rather prefer to have a service like OnLive on the Switch, so I could stream games that need a beast of a computer from the cloud. Still dreaming about this all these years after OnLive shut down...
I'm sure if people have gamer rigs powerful enough to play top-tier games, they also have a freaking great display or a TV set up.
As good as classic NES titles are, I'm really getting a bit tired of them. I mean, I've had access to them for almost 10 years on the Wii, and of course before that on the actual NES.
Plus, what's so compelling about online multiplayer on a console promoting local co-op??
I'd gladly pay some bucks more for a collection of best N64/Gamecube/Wii titles or current Switch titles like PS4 does.
This looks amazing. Just the shake-up Mario needs. For all its amazing and bold hardware moves, Nintendo is often quite conservative with its games. This would bring some very welcome craziness to Mario.
Some sketchy language in those presentations, but if this is an internal document made by a French team, that could easily be the case.
Wonder what co-op would be if there's no direct control.
Oh, nice. Living in Russia and not having bought Switch yet, this may be the thing that pushes me to buy one. I was hoping the price might fall a bit due to rouble getting stronger, but that's probably not gonna happen. Gotta save up and get one anyway.
I'm from Russia, and this seems legit since it's on the official store. The only way it's not is if someone hacked the site. I doubt it though since they haven't pulled it in 10 hours.
Oh, and the added cost compared to the non-bundled Switch is nice as well. MK8 is listed as 3699 rubles on its own and 2499 with the bundle. Saving you about 20 bucks!
For some reason I get a feeling it may be limited to certain countries. Well, since I'm in Russia this may be what pushes me into finally buying the Switch.
I'm okay with red, but the fact that the site doesn't auto fit to window width is a huge annoyance. I see that it's optimised to 1280 resolution on my system, but not everyone uses their browser full screen. Horizontal scrolling is NOT good.
Played it regularly until last week when I reached the Peach Cake item. Lots of fun, and I still have black coins to collect.
The only thing I wish for is some more interactivity with unlocked items. You open the bonus game houses pretty early on, and that's it. Why does the Peach Cake only bounce harder? Why doesn't it have a level or a mini game inside? Feels a bit anticlimactic, tbh.
Man, I wish the whole Nintendo Switch presentation was as perfect as that video. Imagine the funny videos like this detailing the OS, online features, JoyCons, games... It would have rocked so much more than it actually did (well, to be hones, it didn't rock at all).
1) Maybe if they invested in building a Switch port of Borderlands, it would boost the switch audience and they'd have more people buying the next release. It's the same chicken-and-egg conundrum we had with the Wii U: fewer people buy it because there are few great games, but developers of great games wait till there are more people buying the console!
2) He treats the Switch solely as a handheld. First, it's not. Nintendo treats it as a home device. And second, even if it is a handheld, why would he assume people don't want to play big games on the go? Just look at the major launch title! Legend of Zelda is not your typical 'pick up and play for 5 minutes' titile!
This attitude just makes me sad, when I think other developers might think the same.
Miis are invaluable for party games. Me and my friends got a lot of laughs from their expressions in Wii Party. Or in greatly under-appreciated Wii Music. Or just things like "Hey, look who's watching you play!" in Wii Sports, when you spot a familiar Mii in the audience, and having two completely ridiculously looking Miis made it even funnier.
I actually hope Nintendo would integrate the Switch with Miitomo somehow. Like, if my friend has Miitomo on his smartphone, he could import his Mii quickly into my Switch.
Spot on article. I'm still planning to get a Switch, but Nintendo has largely disappointed me in their presentation.
Playing it safe doesn't cut it anymore. They could've gone all in, cutting the price to 250, having a pack-in title, announcing awesome Virtual Console and a lucrative paid online service. People would rush to buy the console. The profits would've come later with a larger install base and consequently more games sold.
Darn it, Nintendo. I'm simply sad my favourite company is screwing up that much.
They would have earned a lot more in the long run by driving the sales of the console (and, consequently, other games) by packing it in rather than selling it at a ridiculous $50 price.
Plus, considering you have no pack-in game, the console basically costs $350 anyways since you have to buy something to play.
But will it at least tie the Nintendo Account to Miitomo? To show your avatar in games and stuff like that?
And how does the release of Miitomo figure in with seeming disappearance of the Miis? I hope it's just that they weren't used in the titles shown. I'd very much like Switch Party or something like that. Wii Party was played to death by me & my friends, and Miis and their expressions played a huge role in its appeal.
That's fine by me. What's more interesting is whether it will support Wii Remotes. If not for the cursor (I don't expect there to be a port for a sensor bar in the Switch), but at least as extra controllers.
I hope there's support for up to 8 controllers like the Wii U, so it would be extremely helpful for lots of people if they supported Wii Remotes.
I hardly see Apple allowing Nintendo to use the NFC chip in iPhones as is is only used for Apple Pay. But seeing their new found friendship, it would be really awesome if it happened.
Hm, but Google was the only option when I signed up! Did you guys have other options? I would have gladly created a game-specific account, but there was no such choice. =(
Enjoying it in Russia! Two PokeStops nearby and a Gym, though I'm yet to reach lvl 5. Surprisingly, most PokeStops in my town are graffiti art or memorial plaques on buildings. Is it like this everywhere?

I would like to join the gentlemen above: Episode I: Racer was great and I played it to death on PC. With so much love for FAST Racing Neo going on around here, you really have to try Racer now, it was a great futuristic racer.
Alex is on fire! Awesome video. Box, not so much. I mean, "Thank you for playing" and there's not a single game in there? Ugh, Nintendo! Hat is cool tho.
This is kinda weird. Shouldn't the service costs be covered by the hardware/software sales? Imagine if we had ads inside the Wii U or 3DS home screens. Feels like sort of the same thing.
If the development is done mainly in house, I'm confident Nintendo won't screw it up. They are one of the best developers out there, and the don't ride on Minamoto alone. Just look at how awesome Splatoon is, made by a young team of devs.
Oh, and I am so waiting for this since I skipped the Wii U and haven't gotten a 3DS yet. Gonna be awesome.
Wow, the comments here... Comments on The Verge are like 80% positive and 20% cautious. Nintendo Life commenters are like that cat that says no no no no no no no
God, stop whining, look at Apple. The majority of games still work on four year old iPhone 4, they just have simpler graphics/less effects. I'm sure it will be the same with New 3DS.
Yes, except this time it's Nintendo, not Sega who released earlier, and unlike Genesis Wii U really isn't on par with the competition. So, Wii U (I hope not all of Nintendo) seems indeed doomed.

Re: Poll: What Did You Think of Nintendo's Big Switch and 3DS Reveals at E3 on Day One?
Guys, why so little excitement for Rocket League??
I think Rocket League should be considered the main announcement, because:
1) It shows Nintendo/Psyonix listened to the audience demand and made it happen.
2) It's a third party AAA title that's on all major platforms. If RL can make the jump, so can others.
3) Its AWESOME. I you just gotta try it. For all my dislike of all things football, just adding cars to it makes it so freaking cool.
