We hope you like the Atelier series, because Koei Temco has just confirmed that the latest entry - the snappily-titled Atelier Lulua: The Scion of Arland - is getting localised for release in the west.
The company has just put the Japanese and international websites for the game live, with the latter confirmed for a Spring 2019 release.
Because Japan always gets all the cool stuff, it has also been confirmed that there will be two special editions of the game in that region. The Premium Box comes with the game, an exclusive in-game costume, a music CD, a pair of character charms and a fancy art book. It will cost 10800 Yen.
The Special Collection Box offers all of the same stuff, but also comes with a cloth poster and a Lulua crystal paperweight. This will set you back 19800 Yen.
Will you be picking this one up?

Can't wait!
Will be picking it up... when the inevitable 3-games pack comes that has the upgraded "DX" versions.
Tecmo Koei always re-releases the Atelier games with extra content and all DLC included at later dates so best to be patient ^^
I'll probably skip out. I got Lydie & Suelle back when it came out, and it's the one physical Switch game I've gotten that I'm overall meh on. It's not a bad game, but the more laid back, cute girls doing cute things, angle could only carry it so far IMO, and while the story did pick up in places, overall I was more than ready for it to be over when I finished it around the 65 hour mark (and I still got the "bad" ending!).
Glad I tried it, but there's just so many RPG offerings on the system now, I don't really have to gamble on something I may not like.
The latest Atelier entries have done a good job with the character design and costumes, making them cute/elaborate/sexy, without having to resort to showing copious amounts of skin. Very nice!
The games themselves are an interesting, niche, a lot of questing, and specializing in the collecting of materials then some unique crafting/alchemy system. The crafting is great and fun to experiment with, character design is good and the graphics look great and colorful, being a detailed cel shaded look. They can get pretty repetitive, within the own game, and particularly if you try many of the Atelier games at once, as they tend to use the same formula and release a lot of their games pretty often (annual-ish?).
I personally tried all but Rorona of the first 6 games (Rorona to Shallie), of them I'd say Totori (good chars, but it's not very refined, it helps if you already know the formula as some important Quality of Life item descriptions are unclear, unsure if they improved or made an enhanced version) and Ayesha are the best of the first 6 games. Meruru and 'Escha and Logy' are good half step enhancements, but I like the overall game / cast of chars better in Totori/Ayesha.
Mana Khemia, if they ever release it on Nintendo, is the best of their genre of collect/alchemy game I've seen them make so far, great story, setting, voice acting, and cast of characters.
I should give this series a try... what do you guys think are the best qualities of the games?
The missus will probably like this one. On the long list!
@Eef don't believe this website with their little 6 score for the Atelier game last time on Switch. That review was bad and that Atelier should've gotten at least a 7. It's a long game and if you enjoy grinding then it's your game. With quests to do and so many items to collect. The game was reviewed by someone who doesn't like the atelier games obviously. Saw indie games got even higher scores for a game that's so much smaller and offers less. YOu should give it a try!
@Alucard83 I see that Lydie & Suelle is the third game in the trilogy. Would you say playing the previous two is a prerequisite to enjoy the story of this one?
As long as I can play the game, like all other ateliers, purely with Japanese dub with the Western release, I'm good. Passing if I have to go through English dub hell.
