Re: Nintendo's Mobile Titles Have "Not Reached A Satisfactory Profit Point"

pinta_vodki

I feel like mobile may've been a safety net for the big N in case Switch failed. But now that it's succeeded, maybe it's time to stop? Flops like Pocket Camp are probably doing a pretty poor job at bringing people to buy the mainline hardware.

True, I was pretty excited for Super Mario Run and Fire Emblem. Both are pretty good games. But then I got the Switch and couldn't care less for mobile titles.

Re: You'll Soon Be Able To Edit Your Mii Characters From The Comfort Of A Web Browser

pinta_vodki

Man, Nintendo still sure knows how to disappoint. I thought Miitomo would be a first step to a better Mii future, integrated into Switch, Nintendo accounts and mobile apps. Plus games like Tomodachi Life for the Switch. Yet here we are...

Personally, I feel that abandoning "casual" Miis for the sake of "hardcore gamer Nintendo franchises" (Splatoon, Smash, Zelda, etc.) is just as stupid as PS4/XBone/PC gamers preferring "mature" titles to "childish" Nintendo games. Gotta learn to see past the presentation! Wii Music, Wii Party, Tomodachi Life were all amazing games. Hell, Wii Party in one of the best selling Wii games.

I would love to be proven wrong and see some Mii love at E3 this year.

"silliness that follows in the footsteps of Wii Music and 1-2-Switch."

Man, I'm in desperate need of Switch Music. I've had unbelievable amounts of fun with Wii Music being a "night cap" after a night of beer & gaming. It may be hard to appreciate at first glance, but the effortless nature of choosing a song and just waving your arms around to make some silly music shows the real genius of the game.

(It also helps when most of your friends know how to play real music, so the silly game aspect just adds to the fun.)

Re: Nintendo Switch System Update 5.0.0 Is Now Available

pinta_vodki

Yeah, it's really weird they're going with the big X.0 numbers. All this fabulous stability could've easily fit into 1.5 to date. Then 2.0 would be a major thing with folders and themes and onlines, oh my.

Big numbers help build hype, but it seems like the N doesn't quite get it. A few years from now we'll be on v 27.0 and it won't mean a thing, unfortunately.

Edit: Just tried out the update and it doesn't seem to matter whether you have FB and Twitter linked to you Nintendo ID, it just asks to link it on Switch again? Weird. Super Mario Run worked great there, why not Switch?

Re: Super Smash Bros. For Switch Is Coming This Year, And It's Got Inklings

pinta_vodki

This is DEFINITELY Smash 4.

I haven't played the Wii U one, so I didn't know it was known as "Smash 4", and even so I read the burning cross (and later a thin crossed line in the title) during the Direct as a part of number 4 (the intersection of the lines in 4 makes a cross).

Having never played Wii U, this is gonna be a blast, especially with inklings added.

Re: Random: Nintendo Lands Itself In Hot Water With Norway

pinta_vodki

@MoonKnight7 Okay, for anyone still interested, it's a sculpture in the Vigeland Park. It's a huge park in Oslo with LOTS of bizarre sculptures of naked men, women and children made by sculptor Gustav Vigeland around 1930s.

Gotta see it if you visit Oslo. It's amazing, funny, creepy and awesome at the same time.

Re: Video: Nintendo Labo Is Much More Than Cardboard, You Guys

pinta_vodki

Man, the piano blows my mind. Sampling waveforms! Cutting out rhythm patterns out of cardboard! Directing with a baton! It's like they built a full-feaured synth... with a cardboard controller to boot!

Maybe those who don't make music can't really appreciate how full-featured and fun the piano looks to be. This alone is worth the price of Labo. Wow.

Re: A Hat In Time Developer Confirms The Time Travel Platformer Won't Leap Onto Switch

pinta_vodki

@brunojenso Couldn't have said it better, mate. I've got a 2011 MBP as well, and since I've come to terms that I need a much better laptop to play the game, I was hoping maybe I'd be able to play it on Switch when I get one. Alas!

I get it that the dev is free to choose any platform they support or don't support, but man, they listed Wii U and Mac as viable platforms during Kickstarter, didn't they? Now one is nowhere to be seen and the second one is basically unplayable. That's not the way to treat your fanbase.

Still, since they've made some money on this game, maybe they'll turn around and hire some third party to optimise and port it to the Switch? (Or, you know, find a publisher?) The sales on the Switch would undoubtedly cover all possible expenses.

Re: Feature: Nintendo Is Finally Taking One Of The World's Biggest Countries Seriously

pinta_vodki

@ibis_87 It's not a Mercedes Benz, but still outside Moscow and St. Petersburg in a smaller town like mine it's a month's salary for good 50% of the people. And 1/5th of the salary for one game. Ninty really needs to aim for lower prices. You've mentioned Steam; another great example may be Apple. Apple Music is 169 rubles, which is about 3 bucks compared to 10 in the USA. Those guys get regional approach.

I've got a stack of a hundred or more pirated PC games from late 90s-2000s, but can't remember the time I bought the last one. Starting with budget jewel cases in early aughts and then great digital deals, PC piracy is basically gone (at least among my friends). That shows there's a way if publishers are willing to work. Let's hope Nintendo works something out, I would love to see it succeed here in Russia.

Re: Anniversary: It's Been 10 Years Since Super Mario Galaxy Landed On The Wii

pinta_vodki

Like many other here, I think Galaxy is the best Mario game ever. For all the nostalgia of SM64, Galaxy remains unbelievably cool. Plus, the gravity mechanic ties in with **every** aspect of the game, tying the game together amazingly well.

Didn't have a chance to play Galaxy 2 until recently, and I was amazed at how something that could be easily described as "just some more Galaxy levels" doesn't drop the bar one bit, at times surpassing the original with its wild imagination and never-ending surprises.

I don't own a Switch yet, so can't comment. But I believe you, NL, that it's good.

Re: Oh Yes, Resident Evil Revelations Will Have Joy-Con Pointing and Waggling on Switch

pinta_vodki

Wow, actually amazed at the comment section!

I was gonna come and say something like "Please stop pandering to the commenters with those headlines, especially after this very site repeatedly called RE4 on Wii the best and ultimate control scheme. Why can't you remind people of that instead of repeating the tired old 'motion is waggle is bad' trope". But not all is lost, lots of love for motion controls in the comments!

Re: Review: Miitopia (3DS)

pinta_vodki

I wish they released a beefed-up version on Switch.

Partly because I still wish to see some prof that Miis are not completely abandoned on Switch. I love them. This with some local co-op (friends playing as themselves in battles!) would be a hoot. Or maybe even adding something like timer-based turns so that friends could all battle & help each other at the same time.

P.S. Fingers still crossed for a "Switch Party" game with Miis.

Re: Nintendo Records Best Q1 Sales Since 2011 in Profitable Start to the Year

pinta_vodki

@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nintendo would be wise to save extra consoles for Splatoon's launch. But that in no way proves the artificial demand theory. If they released those 75k into the wild the weeks before the Splatoon launch, they wouldn't have enough to satisfy demand around launch.

It's like, the fact I spend more money around Christmas doesn't mean I have it in abundance all the year round.

Re: A Lost Super Mario Anime Has Been Found and Shown Off in Japan

pinta_vodki

Wow, what an amazing find. To be honest, I miss it a bit, those times when something could be lost and then found by someone. Now the Internet has memory of everything and nothing is rare.

Well, on the other hand if not for the Internet, we wouldn't have seen those anyway, so I guess cheers for progress after all. But what a time to be alive. Finding those hidden gems is so thrilling. There's just this small window of opportunity when the Internet exists and old film or VHS have not degraded completely that gives us precious moments like this one. Soon we'll have either everything preserved on the Internet or lost forever.
