Great game this, but it's not especially performance-dependent. I doubt a smoother frame rate and/or resolution bump is going to drag me back for another play-through.
Really intrigued as to whether this will actually be good. The big, empty desert just added to my sense that it was one of those cursed software projects that can never be made right. Still holding out hope that I was mistaken.
Part of this is that the increase in the power of home consoles was really rapid in the 90s. Also, once you get past roughly Gamecube-ish levels of graphics, the effect drawing things with more and more polygons gets into diminishing returns.
I've been soured on this series by the fact that Campus still crashes frequently after all this time, even on Switch 2. Shame, as the gameplay when it works is very much My Sort of Thing.
This was the only thing that excited me from today's Direct, other than actually getting an MP4 date.
Good to be getting third party games day-and-date with other consoles again.
Well, it doesn't have anything corresponding to ZL and the right "thumbstick" isn't analogue, so I guess it couldn't not have issues. Still, if they map the rest of them sensibly, it should work well for a lot of stuff.
Ha! That's very Nintendo to just confirm to the world that Silksong is still happening with three seconds in the middle of a sizzle reel. I wonder if they even know what they did.
Tetris Effect is cool, but the campaign is too easy, IMHO. I wouldn't blame anyone for putting GB Tetris top, but Tetris 99 is the right answer if you ask me
The code is such utter gibberish. The functions don't have meaningful names, the decompiler just names them with hex values. Do modders really work on it like that or is there some subsequent effort to name stuff after what it actually does?
We used to criticise companies for only wanting profits. At least that made some sense. The modern quest for growth at the expense of all else leads to some utterly bizarre behaviour.
I thought the demo was a bit ungenerous, really. I have since gathered from other coverage that the combat system is pretty extensive and feels great when you get it right. I got all the way to the end of the demo without having to learn that. Just felt like running to the right swiping at things for ten minutes.
I hope one of the enhancements is proper mid-level saves. The worst thing about this game the first time around was how it would just delete them when you quit out.
I might just buy that. I definitely had fun with the first one on PC eighty-five years ago. My main concern would be things looking hopelessly tiny on the Switch screen...
Stewart Lee said the last taboo in comedy is trying to do something sincerely and well. You've claimed a fair bit of poetic licence there, though in your defence, perhaps the real last taboo in comedy is shamelessly misquoting Stewart Lee.
Ah, so in conclusion, Nintendo will release a new console of some description, at some point, probably.
Assuming the Tegra 239 rumours are well founded, I reckon that gives us roughly XBox Series S level performance. I can believe that would play BotW at native 4k, though I doubt ports of more recent games will reliably make it above 1080p.
Then again, if DLSS is good enough, maybe that doesn't matter as much. I've yet to see it in action...
Starlink is underrated, Subnautica is overrated. Also, is The Outer Wilds still coming at any point? Or is it now just some poor developer saying "this definitely won't work on Switch", followed by their manager saying, "Well it has to" over and over until one of them dies?
It's a great game and I've played it a great deal. I can't keep going back every time they add something though. They do it so often and there are so many games I've bought but not finished.
I just finished this other night. Did anyone else think it was odd that MASSIVE SPOILERS Link has his normal hand back in the post-credits scene but they never show how it happened? Seems like they should have thought of that...
@Uncle_Franklin I really liked the first game, so when this one got decent reviews, I bought gold edition (or whatever they call it) on release. It's not quite as good. This DLC is pretty enjoyable though. Much better than then the last one, which generated short, randomised strings of samey levels.
Somehow I'm finding this quite tempting despite the fact that (a) I don't need a phone stand and (b) buying a physical copy would violate my policy of BotW living my game card slot for all time.
I actually only played DX for the first time when it appeared on Switch recently. I also bought and finished the remake but I played through the original so many times as a kid, I can't help seeing that as the 'real' one.
The question is, when runners inevitably find some technique that's 'broken' to the extent that if you know about then there's no point using anything else, will Nintendo fix it with patches?
The one thing for which I'd dock it a point is the friends-only online multiplayer. If they'd just set up a server to connect you to whoever else fancies a game I'd call it a 10.
It won't really come out, of course. In the beginning, I had hope. How many other games have been released in this time? About war and tanks and shooting? It's inconceivable to me now. I don't get to play it. Something will happen.
I never went to one but I still feel a bit sad to see it die. But yeah, it's hard to see how it remains relevant when publishers can so easily hand their preview videos to the whole global audience in one fell swoop.
I would have thought the release of Metroid Prime Remastered would guarantee that's all I'd be playing for some time. As it turns out, I'm so busy with the Gameboy/GBA games that I haven't even bought it yet.
Changing the subject slightly, has anyone found a way to map the controls to something more like a modern FPS? It would be nice to get better at this without rendering myself useless at Overwatch 2...
Even without considering the level editor, this is still the sort of thing I'd always rather have on PC. Old-school FPSes demand a mouse and keyboard. Looks good though!
I'm not a big party game person (if I've got friends physically nearby I'd rather just go to the pub) but it's always good to get more decent games on the N64 app.

Re: A New Tomb Raider Entry Has Leaked Ahead Of The Game Awards
Judging by the screenshots attached to that second tweet, I reckon they've added in a new section where Lara takes a week off to top up her tan.

Re: 68 Switch 1 & 2 Games You Should Check Out In The 'Screaming Deals' eShop Sale (North America)
I bought Cyberpunk in the equivalent European sale. Good to get such a big discount so quickly after the Switch 2 release! Runs nice and smooth too

My right thumb still hasn't recovered from the last one.

Re: UK Charts: Switch 2 Anticipation Creates A Quiet Week For Nintendo
It's not that I've lost interest in Switch 1 games - more that I've spent my whole games budget (and more) on the pre-order...
Re: Amazon UK's Switch 2 Pre-Orders Won't Be Invite-Only For Long
Just put a successful pre-order through on Argos, in case anyone was wondering whether that was possible yet...

Re: The Force Is Strong With Nintendo Switch Online's Next Free Game Trial (Europe)
I never played this, which is a glaring hole in my gaming history. Might have to see if I can slay me a sacred cow, coming to it in 2024.
Re: Outer Wilds Gets Another Update On Switch, Here Are The Patch Notes
Haven't bought it yet but I'm even more likely to now that they've fixed it up a bit.

Re: Five More Classic Rareware Games Come To Nintendo Switch Online Today
Really good choices, these. This and World of Goo 2 were the best things today, IMHO.

68.7 billion. Does the number even matter to them? I think they're maybe in a position to buy anyone and everyone who's prepared to sell.

Definitely still more Zelda, but also the new rabbids DLC and probably the GBA Fire Emblem if there's time between bouts of drinking.
