In the upcoming competition, I recommend you all do the opposite of everything these guys said. Also, trying playing with one hand. Or upside-down. Maybe both.
From what I've seen, each character seems to have a few drawn-out (5-10 second) animations that happen in most fights. I hope I've somehow got the wrong impression there because I reckon I'd get bored of those pretty quickly.
Enjoying Trials on Switch. I was a bit bothered by the little hitch in frame rate that happens when big events load in but it turns out that happens on other consoles too.
I wonder whether they'll tone down any of the moves for the Switch version. I know we have 18-rated games already but it's still seen as the more family-friendly platform and some of those finishers are just brutal.
Still slightly in awe of the feel of this game. The world is full of roguelike action platformers but I'm not aware of another one that makes smiting your enemies quite so satisfying.
@TheMadPolarBear Yeah, you're probably right. Having now played it though, it's actually not bad.
The frame rate sometimes drops for a fraction of a second but not very often, and as a few others have said, that odd brown dust effect is only in the first level.
Did they make the end boss easier? I can't see anything about it but I played for a month solid when this came out and couldn't beat it. First run after the update and I slaughtered him. Just random luck, I guess...
Well on the one hand it's Valentine's Day and I said I'd make dinner for my girlfriend. Then again, there's a new multiplayer Tetris game out that I've basically already paid for... Hmmm.
Keen to see what 'battle royale' really means with regard to a Tetris game. Because if it means that you keep playing another one of the 99 until only one person hasn't lost a match, isn't that just a playoff tournament?
I played a lot of the old Dizzy games on ZX Spectrum but I'm pretty sure a 'new' one isn't going to hold up these days. Sometimes nostalgia needs to stay as nostalgia.
I've been feeling the JRPG itch lately and this would be the perfect solution. I'd want a western release, though. I know the dual account trick is easy enough but localisation makes a huge difference to a game like this.
SML2 was one of the games I played to completion again and again as a kid, along with Link's Awakening. I watched a speedrun of it last SGQD (I think) and still remembered pretty much all of it 25+ years later.
@Kidfunkadelic83 Well, this reply is much too late, then. I like it but in retrospect it wasn't worth full price. I guess your decision has been made by now anyway.
How long before games media relents to talking about something other than RDR2, do we think? I've already watched about five hours of footage and I wasn't even that interested...
Pleased to hear this. Rechargeable batteries don't last forever so if I'm going to need a new one at some point it'll be nice to get some better hardware into the bargain.
I strongly recommend Bastion to people who've never played it, although I've already got it on PC and I'm not one to double-dip. Nothing for me this week.
@big_bad_bob Yep, this has very much been my experience. Maybe once every twenty minutes it slows down for about three seconds. Easily worth it to be able to play on handheld.
I have the Anker 20100 in the way cheaper non-Switch branded variety. It's good! Just the right capacity to keep two moderately used smartphones alive for the duration of a music festival.
Yep, I really enjoyed this. Also worth noting that some harder challenges open up after you finish the story bit, which further adds to the value for money.
Meh, I've given Fortnite a week's worth of evenings and I don't think it's going to become a major passion of mine. I like that you can pick it up for 20 mins and then just drop it again and I like that the world's biggest F2P game has no pay to win aspect. Still, good but not great.
You know, more and more and just prefer to communicate using preset, in-game speech. Wearing a headset just means you can hear 13 year-olds having temper tantrums and I think I'd rather do without.
Yeah, it's going to backfire on them. They know they've got the biggest platform so they think they can stop people going elsewhere by being obstinate. It just makes them look bad, though. Being helpful to your customers is good for business and one by one games companies are going to catch on to that.

Re: Block-Bustin' Tetris Pros Share Their Top Tips For Tetris 99
Got my win! For the record, I've been mostly ignoring the right stick and just concentrating on the Tetris.

@Starvald Alright thanks.
Re: Tetris 99 Grand Prix Event Hits Europe This Weekend, £10 eShop Credit Up For Grabs
So if I get more than one 1st, do I increase my chances of winning the prize? Or is it equal weighting for anyone who won at least one match?

Re: Reminder: Register Your Switch Launch Games Before They Expire This Weekend (Europe)
Huh, I didn't know about this. Zelda's still the only game I've bought physically but that should be good for a few quid off something or other...

Re: Trials Rising On Switch Doesn't Rise Up To The Challenge Of Its Rivals
Gah, that's annoying. Still, it's only a beta, so I guess there's still hope for the release version...?
Re: Hard West, A Gunspinning XCOM-Alike Is Coming To Switch Very Soon
Hmmm, it's a Kickstarter game that has a 73 on metacritic. I'm a fan of the genre but actual XCOM would make me much happier.
Actually, I bet Enemy Within would run fairly well on Switch and we got Civ 6 so Firaxis must have experience with the platform. I wonder...
Re: Soapbox: My Love Affair With Tetris, Probably The Best Video Game Ever Created
I have won three of my twenty-ish games of Tetris 99 and am really far too pleased with myself.
Anyway, it may be best game premise ever but best game implies best individual game and I don't think any one Tetris game lives up to that.

Re: Feature: The Big Nintendo Direct Summary - 13th February
This was a pretty amazing Direct. I gave up trying to vote in the poll because I couldn't narrow it down to just three.

@Heavyarms55 Perhaps is does overall, I meant specifically looking at those two screenshots of the same map design in this article.
Re: Warframe's Fortuna Expansion Arrives On Nintendo Switch Today For Free
@brunojenso If you don't want to pay, you have to grind like fsck just to get off the first planet.
Re: Wargroove Players Are Recreating Advance Wars And Fire Emblem Maps In-Game
I think it's worth noting that side by side, 18 years after it came out, the Advance Wars visuals still have more charm. That's quite something.

Re: X-Morph: Defense Is A Top-Down Shooter, Tower Defence Hybrid Blasting Onto Switch Next Month
Well I thought I was going to get Defense Grid 2 but I probably don't really want to buy two TD games in the same month.
Looks like I'll be waiting on the reviews...

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (January 19th)
Mario u deluxe, smash and civ 6.
Re: V-Rally 4 Drifts Onto Switch Next Month In Europe, North America Will Have To Wait
Gah, we wait ages for a serious racing game and they give us the least interesting one going. Would have snapped up Dirt 4 day one.

Done with Starlink, halfway through Inside, considering Civ VI.

Good work on the article subtitle.
Re: Japanese Job Listings Suggest A New 3D Fighter Is In Development For Switch
If we're just fantasising, I'd love an HD remaster of Soul Caliber 2, which featured Link, hence the Nintendo tie-in.
I would probably buy a DOA though, or any other competent 3D fighter, assuming they didn't make a mess of the Switch port.
Re: Review: MotoGP 18 (Switch)
Still we lack a properly good, non-cartoony racing game. It's the N64 all over again.

Maybe.

Re: Nintendo Is Banning Switch Game Cards To Combat Piracy, Potentially Killing The Second-Hand Market
