Re: Nintendo Is Open To Dropping The 'Direct' Approach At Future E3 Events

dystome

It wasn't really the format that was the problem so much as buzzing through 30 games in 10 mins and then spending the whole rest of the presentation on Smash 4.5. They're just about the launch they online service, Bayonetta 3 must be finished fairly soon and they somehow gave the impression they don't have a lot going on.

Re: Nintendo Download: 14th June (Europe)

I've already installed Fortnite and Fallout Shelter, then got bored of FS and uninstalled it again.

Man, I am not good at Fortnite. Been a long time since I tried to play a competitive shooter with thumbsticks. I think I'll stick with it for a while, though - at least until the Rabbids DLC gets here.

Re: Review: Runner3 (Switch)

dystome

Yep, I reckon I'll be on this day one. I always loved the way they used an auto-runner plus the predictable beat of the music to make the rhythm-action gameplay fall into place. Seems obvious once you've seen it but I'm not aware of anyone doing it before BIT.TRIP.

Re: Review: Bridge Constructor Portal (Switch eShop)

I bought this and am very much enjoying it. Feels like a spiritual successor to Armadillo Run, if anyone remembers that.
I guess it appeals to a certain type of person, though. If you don't enjoy spending a long time tinkering with something to get it just right, it's probably not for you.

Downloaded Pinball FX3. The free table is decent enough but I wish there was some way to link it to my Steam account, where I've already payed for the Portal one plus a job lot of others I got in a Humble Bundle.

I probably will buy the Resi games but before that I need a big MicroSD. And before I get that I want to send my twitchy left joy-con away for a warranty repair. And before I do that I want to get through the 2nd Zelda DLC. And that's not even out yet.

Man, life is hard.

Re: Review: L.A. Noire (Switch)

dystome

I saw this being played a fair bit back when it was first released and always thought it seemed a bit dull. Everyone was raving about it at the time so I feel kind of a reassured to see a 7/10 now that it has ceased to be Rockstar's big new thing.

Re: Ubisoft Thinks The Next Console Cycle Isn't Far Away, So Where Does That Leave Switch?

dystome

This sounds like a case of Ubisoft just being wrong. The gap between the PS3 and the PS4 release was seven years. The PS4 came out three years ago and is still selling well.
The generations are overlapping more and more with each one. The idea that games companies have a window in which to be successful based on how long is has been since their competitors released something is looking like a bit of an anachronism.

Re: Review: Zombie Gold Rush (Switch eShop)

@tadek900 Yeah, 'average' kind of loses its meaning when it comes to game reviews. If you added up all the review scores for a given year and divided by the number of games reviewed, my guess is you'd get a result of about 7.5.
This leaves us with the conclusion that the average game is better than the average game.

Re: Super Mario Odyssey Is The Best Rated Game Of All Time

dystome

I don't think anything can ever really topple Mario 64 in my mind. Probably to see them both for the first time side-by-side, Odyssey would be objectively better but in context it's just not as mind blowing.
To go from playing 2D SNES games (or 3D games looking like Starwing) to the first open-world 3D platformer I'd ever seen that turns out to still hold its own 20 years later seems like something that can't really happen again.

Re: You Can Now Pre-Load Super Mario Odyssey From The Switch eShop

dystome

The fact that the pre-load function can distinguish between games bought in the eShop and codes bought elsewhere suggests to me that the database regards the latter as somehow ancillary to the main list of stuff registered to your account. This makes me nervous about whether stuff bought with codes will survive in my account in some future migration years down the line. Definitely nervous enough to spend an extra eight quid, anyway.
