It wasn't really the format that was the problem so much as buzzing through 30 games in 10 mins and then spending the whole rest of the presentation on Smash 4.5. They're just about the launch they online service, Bayonetta 3 must be finished fairly soon and they somehow gave the impression they don't have a lot going on.
I've already installed Fortnite and Fallout Shelter, then got bored of FS and uninstalled it again.
Man, I am not good at Fortnite. Been a long time since I tried to play a competitive shooter with thumbsticks. I think I'll stick with it for a while, though - at least until the Rabbids DLC gets here.
Yep, I reckon I'll be on this day one. I always loved the way they used an auto-runner plus the predictable beat of the music to make the rhythm-action gameplay fall into place. Seems obvious once you've seen it but I'm not aware of anyone doing it before BIT.TRIP.
@The_Mysteron Oooh, that last one really gets to me. I have to mute the first five seconds on NL videos these days. And apart from anything else, why does he assume we're lovely? I personally am completely reprehensible.
I bought this and am very much enjoying it. Feels like a spiritual successor to Armadillo Run, if anyone remembers that. I guess it appeals to a certain type of person, though. If you don't enjoy spending a long time tinkering with something to get it just right, it's probably not for you.
@koekiemonster I do hope that market gets saturated and/or collapses before too much longer. I don't really fancy paying twice as much for graphics cards for the rest of eternity.
Hmmm, the thing is I want Switch games to work on my Switch. Tablets that will run Linux and have enough power to emulate SNES/GBA/N64/DS games are not a rarity. The un-hacked Switch is the more interesting platform.
Well, the iOS version is $39 so I guess this will be at least that much. That's a bit more than I would pay for the sake of playing around in a distinctly amateurish way. Still, maybe I'll catch it in a sale or something...
Downloaded Pinball FX3. The free table is decent enough but I wish there was some way to link it to my Steam account, where I've already payed for the Portal one plus a job lot of others I got in a Humble Bundle.
The Sexy Brutale would be most likely but honestly I'm still playing Mario. Nearly 50 hours in and I've still got over 100 moons to find. Might even last me until the 2nd Zelda DLC...
I probably will buy the Resi games but before that I need a big MicroSD. And before I get that I want to send my twitchy left joy-con away for a warranty repair. And before I do that I want to get through the 2nd Zelda DLC. And that's not even out yet.
Yeah, this is about whether you want Worms on a portable machine, isn't it? Other than that, if you own any other Worms game, there's never a huge incentive to get the next one.
I saw this being played a fair bit back when it was first released and always thought it seemed a bit dull. Everyone was raving about it at the time so I feel kind of a reassured to see a 7/10 now that it has ceased to be Rockstar's big new thing.
Eeeeenteresting. I'm always up for some turn-based tactics, really hoping the Switch version of Tiny Metal makes it out later this month as the website suggests.
This sounds like a case of Ubisoft just being wrong. The gap between the PS3 and the PS4 release was seven years. The PS4 came out three years ago and is still selling well. The generations are overlapping more and more with each one. The idea that games companies have a window in which to be successful based on how long is has been since their competitors released something is looking like a bit of an anachronism.
I can't see as there's really any downside to ramping up production at this stage. The system has been a big success so far and it's still early in its life cycle. Worst case scenario, they just end up storing a surplus in warehouses and don't have to make as many in years to come.
Bah, I was hoping there would be a review by tonight. I just want someone to confirm that the Switch version isn't unexpectedly broken in some respect...
I bet Mario Odyssey will make it in as a donation incentive as well. Hopefully I'll have had enough fun with it by then to let them show me how to ruin it.
@MarcelRguez Ooh, hadn't seen that. It's definitely contrary to what Bethesda told the press, though. Someone somewhere along the chain has misunderstood. Also, your link was via tradedoubler and was primarily for a merch t-shirt. Do you make money out of your web discussions?
Wow, that sounds like some pretty inefficient data storage. Apparently the DOOM (2016) single player will entirely fit on a 16GB cartridge and this is a 2011 game that's largely about talking to people across a table.
I've got this on PC and while it is good - particularly the Portal table - it is just pinball. Not likely to double-dip for the sake of a game that will always be better played on mechanical hardware.
@helbertpina Yep, I'm another one for the 'one game card, all the rest downloaded' route. That way you save a bit of internal storage and still never have to swap carts. And yes, my one physical game is also Zelda.
More ways to have fun? Does playing games just count as one way? Because I'm pretty happy with that way. I don't need it also function as a Frisbee or something...
@the8thark I only discovered the parrot last night. I think that's the best way to go - the Mario64-esque single sentence description without an 'x marks the spot' to make it too obvious.
I'm trying to avoid even asking toad wherever possible. It's definitely a game that's more fun to explore and investigate what catches your eye naturally. Maybe I'll resort to AssCreed-style "tell me where to go next" completionism if I start to get bored in a month or two and still have a few moons left to go.
@tadek900 Yeah, 'average' kind of loses its meaning when it comes to game reviews. If you added up all the review scores for a given year and divided by the number of games reviewed, my guess is you'd get a result of about 7.5. This leaves us with the conclusion that the average game is better than the average game.
I don't think anything can ever really topple Mario 64 in my mind. Probably to see them both for the first time side-by-side, Odyssey would be objectively better but in context it's just not as mind blowing. To go from playing 2D SNES games (or 3D games looking like Starwing) to the first open-world 3D platformer I'd ever seen that turns out to still hold its own 20 years later seems like something that can't really happen again.
The fact that the pre-load function can distinguish between games bought in the eShop and codes bought elsewhere suggests to me that the database regards the latter as somehow ancillary to the main list of stuff registered to your account. This makes me nervous about whether stuff bought with codes will survive in my account in some future migration years down the line. Definitely nervous enough to spend an extra eight quid, anyway.
Hmmm, looks a bit shovel-ware-y. Still, simple little games like this can sometimes have very enjoyable mechanics, it's just hard to judge from a screenshot. At £4.49, it wouldn't be too hard for it to get above the 'worth it' line.
I fell foul of that blue shell issue for the first time just the other day. Glad they're saving me the effort of swearing mortal revenge on any more cartoon representations of strangers.

Re: A Mysterious Countdown Has Appeared In Fortnite On Switch
My guess would be PvE mode. Seems like that would be pretty easy for them to do now they've got the BR part running nicely.
