Would look a lot better if they could give us dates for Advance Wars and Metroid.
Kirby and Zelda for me. And of course Switch 2.0 which will launch with Zelda.
@dystome metroid is vaporware sadly.
What is Bayonetta, tentative for 2022?
Weird how Nintendo used to backload years to September to November, but now it seems there’s more at the beginning of the year.
If the release date is "TBA/Tentative" it probably shouldn't be on this list. Makes the subheader misleading.
"TBA" is not a date.
"Tentative" is not a date.
@Panopticon It's the physical release of Bayonetta 1 for Switch. This is made available for those who wants to collect all three game physically or for those who prefer to play the first game but had not bought the second one yet. Makes sense too considering all the promo code for the first game via Bayonetta 2 were already expired so buying a brand new copy of Bayonetta 2 today will still come with a Bayonetta 1 download code but you won't be able to redeem it anymore due to the period of redemption already expired.
@Serpenterror & @Dr_Luigi It's already out though. You can order it and have it tomorrow from Best Buy and Amazon. I think that might have been the point @Panopticon was trying to make. Either way, it's out and you can get it right now, at least in the US.
@mercilessrobot I already got mine at GameStop, I think it's only the UK/EU market that had not gotten the physical game yet which is odd considering we in NA had not gotten the physical copy of TMNT: Shredder's Revenge yet but the UK/EU market already got theirs.
I will pick Kirby Return to Dreamland DELUXE as I have never played the Wii version before, also will pick Pokemon Violet.
The following games I plan on buying for sure...
Pokémon Scarlet (& Violet for the wife)
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
Pikmin 4
As far as games we know about, that's not bad for first-party games, plus Metroid Prime 4 is a must-buy for me as well.
Oh, wow. Yep. All eight games in the next year. I plan on playing like half of them, maybe.
We really, really need a new Donkey Kong Country.
The list is small, but we may get a ton of announcing moving into next year. 2023 is going to be 2017 all over again
Mhhh and Fatal Frame Mask of the Lunar Eclipse would count as what?
@koekiemonster There is no way in the world Nintendo would let Metroid Prime 4 become vapourware.
@Ewaldus Another amen to a new DK. Preferably I'd like to see them get a 3D DK done right.
@YoshiF2 Maiden of Black Water rerelease wasn’t published by Nintendo, so I’m only guessing it’ll be the same with this?
@brunojenso it has been five years… without much information. It won’t come to this Switch that’s for sure!
Bayonetta and Pokemon are not first party so they don't count
Due to the last delay, I believe that Breath of the Wild 2 will be announced for the new Nintendo console as well
At this rate I never see Advance Wars coming out. And Metroid Prime 4 yeah I think that's going to be released on the next Nintendo console at this point with how long it's taking. Looking forward to Bayonetta 3, cautiously excited for Fire Emblem Engage and eager to see what Xenoblade Chronicles 3's expansion story will be like. But in terms of 2023 releases so far I'm more excited for third party games like Persona 4 Golden, Like A Dragon Ishin and FF16, and really want to see the Dragon Quest 3 2D-HD remake release this year.
@Ewaldus yes, please.
What I wouldn't give for a new Donkey Kong Country game. It's been eight years since Tropical Freeze was originally released. As great as it is (and it really is a great game), I need/want a new one so badly.
FEE and P4 for me……
@GreenNinja500 Oh, there will be plenty of announcements to come, this only goes up to May.
There's also a new Mario movie coming out, Nintendo would be stupid if they didn't capitalize on it with a Mario game being released as well. Plus at least one Pokémon game has come out every year since the Switch launched, granted some of those have been spin-offs, however, I wouldn't be surprised if Scarlet & Violet have DLC packs similar to Sword & Shield.
Guess I will have a lot of time to save up for tears of the kingdom.
Maybe they will make a surprise announcement kinda like they did with age of calamity.
@koekiemonster I understand the concern and your viewpoint, but I still don't agree. The Switch is not at the end of it's life. I think Metroid Prime 4 will likely be it's swan song, though I think it could still appear late 2023.
There has to be a new mainline Mario game to coincide loosely with the Mario movie. I'm thinking holiday 2023 on that one.
@koekiemonster Metroid Prime 4 restarted development in late 2018/beginning of 2019. It's only been 3.5 years, which is nothing by AAA standards.
I only care about Zelda of all these games, and it would be nice if there was at least 1 title with Mario, even a 2D simple platform. In almost every N console the last years of its lifespan has no Mario titles at all, most of the time has a Zelda but still..
Once again a very uninspiring lineup. Calling most of these games "big hitters" is laughable. When's the next Mario game? When's DK? when are we getting a release date that isn't TBA on Prime 4? Those are the kinds of "big hitter" announcements we need to be seeing, not these niche franchises that only a handful of dedicated fans care about. We need to start seeing announcements of that caliber again.
@GreenNinja500 We keep hearing "this next year is going to be the new 2017" but it keeps not happening and everyone keeps shifting their hopes for a blowout lineup into the next year (I've seen people saying 2020 would be the new 2017, 2021 would be the new 2017, and 2022 would be the new 2017). At this point I think it's just not happening again anytime soon. I'll believe we have a new 2017-esque lineup when I see it, the last 3 years have come nowhere close.
It's cute you keep Advanced Wars on the list. Guess you guys don't watch the actual news...the little war that got the game withheld is soon going nuclear WW3 sooo don't expect Nintendo to reverse that decision anytime in this decade.
I will collapse and die if a Mario game doesn't come out somewhat soon. In the meantime, I'll try to survive with some Pokemon and Kirby. I'm also tempted by the Fire Emblem game because I've never actually played the series. And I'm sure I'll get Zelda Tears of the Kingdom eventually; the primary Nintendo exclusives are hard to resist.
@Bolt_Strike If you've noticed Nintendo has not announced a single major tentpole title for Switch outside of Zelda...which is WAY out in May.
These are the signs that game development has died down and is in a transitioning period. I'm more convinced than ever that "Switch 2" will have a dual launch with TotK, similar to BOTW launching on both Wii U and Switch
There have been wars been going on well before Ukraine blew up and will be going on long after it finishes. Would be extremely dumb if Advance Wars in postponed indefinitely because if it.
@Bizzyb If there's a new console on the horizon they shouldn't be releasing ANY tentpole titles, they should be saving them for next gen, that's the best time in a console's lifespan for a 2017-esque lineup. The fact that we have Splatoon 3 and TotK around this time makes me question if we're really headed for next gen that soon or if there are other factors going on such as COVID or organizational troubles. Most of the tentpole releases have come from EPD and we've had almost nothing from them since 2019, so is it time to start worrying about what's going on at EPD right now?
given how long Metroid Prime 4 is taking to develop, i expect the game to release on Switch sucessor, hyped to play Bayonetta 3 e Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom on my extended battery Switch.
@Bolt_Strike Splatoon 3 was too far out to hold onto it for "Switch 2", and Pokemon is going to be their 2022 "holiday game".
Meanwhile, Zelda was too close in, so they pushed it farther out, to be ready for launch. I fully expect we will hear major rumblings by January/February of next year
@Bizzyb Highly doubtful TotK is being pushed out for a new console, if they were a new console coming in May 2023, they'd be telling us about it by now (or we'd at the very least be aware of the system under a codename like NX if not a full reveal).
@Bolt_Strike Nah, not while your current system is still selling well.
Wii U was a flop so they had no problem letting people know something better was coming well ahead of time. It's tricky to get the timing right of launching a new product when the current one is still doing well. It's almost always better to hold off the announcement for as long as possible.
Besides, there's been plenty of smoke regarding Switch 2/Switch Pro for the last year or so. It's definitely on the way
@Bizzyb You need at least 4-6 months, maybe even longer, to market the new console, and we're cutting it pretty close already. And you need more than just unverifiable rumors at this point, the company will usually start confirming that the next gen console is in development under a codename at least a year out. And that's regardless of the previous gen's success. With all of that in mind it's a pretty safe assumption that we are not getting a next gen device in the first half of 2023 (second half is still possible, but we can just about rule out first half).
Just Pikmin 4, Zelda and FEE for me. These alone will blow away this year's lackluster release schedule!
@Bolt_Strike new Switch will be confirmed late December or early January so it doesn't affect sales of Switch consoles at Christmas.
