Re: "New Players Won't Feel Alone" - Square Enix Partners With Google For AI-Powered Dragon Quest Companion

@RupeeClock "Why does an MMO, a genre of game specifically about engaging with other real players, need AI to assist new players like this?"

Because profit margins. Companies only care about things that justify lower costs, which AI does if you can accept the extreme reduction to quality, which these companies clearly are okay with. It's not gonna be long until we see a huge reduction in quality in a lot of the things we enjoy because of greedy companies opting for use of AI.

I don't really see an issue here. Localization is just adaptation of already existing content to a new market. Unless meaning is lost, then it's not an issue if it isn't idiomatic or relevant to the source language, it's the target language and the target market that matters. Yes, you can definitely argue that English is 'simplistic' (to understand grammatically) compared to other languages, but that is not the same as it's simplistic when it comes to localization for the English market. So unless I misread or misunderstood something, I don't think this guy really understands the process of localization for the English market or the English language when it regards to localization.

Edit: Also, how can the guy complain about it ultimately sounding 'simplistic' when DQ7 has like a ton of different accents/dialects.

Love how people base their argument on absolutely no data, regarding the loss of sale.

If Nintendo and other companies want to combat piracy, then stop taking advantage of your consumers and screwing them over every chance you get, and stop with the cynical attempts at getting adults and kids addicted to monetization schemes. These companies aren't defenseless or barely surviving the market. They're fine, and most are thriving despite of piracy. Piracy has just been an excuse for the big companies to implement non-consumer friendly systems that empowers them and screws over the consumer.
