@PessitheMystic Was thinking the same, but you have to remember that -especially- this being a Nintendo console, a lot of people that preorder aren't necessarily consumers who read video game news or stay up to date on what's going on in the game industry or anything related to video games.

Great! But must say that the newest rumour (if true) really have ruined any hope or expectation for this new console. Supposedly the console needs Internet activation to actually work (at least for Switch 1 games).

Most likely they don't mention it for the update specifically, because the Switch 2's functionality of BC improves on performance "naturally" without the need of the update. Remains to be seen, but that's my guess.

Well there you have it. I am already settled for Switch 2 being my last Nintendo console, this is just the "possible" nail in the coffin for it. I might get the next console and just homebrew it as soon as possible and then piracy.

Shame though, rather give my money to Nintendo, but they are starting to make it impossible.

@Skunkfish Not happening unless they find a way to make it fair for the consumer. I have no interest in buying products that I absolutely have no agency or ownership over and that they can dismiss at any point if they want. I am not a mindless bot that just gives in because it's "convenient", I guess I just have principles.

I guess I will have to prepare myself for emulation and piracy in the future. Guess that's what Nintendo wants now.

@Jeronan Not what I was referring to or talking about. Digital Foundry has said things and made assumptions that were clearly lazy and incorrect, outright lying because they couldn't bother to do proper research on it. They've been really bad at covering the NS2 and none of it has to do with Nintendo.

@WiltonRoots After I saw SuperMetalDave64 covering them, I just stopped subscribing. I cannot believe they had the gall to be THAT lazy and arrogant about the NS2 coverage, was enough for me to completely boycott them. They outright lie because they didn't bother doing the proper research, and they're supposed to be "experts".

I can't take digital foundry seriously anymore after their half-assed coverage of Switch 2. They seriously don't strike me as experts anymore, that's how bad their coverage has been. Gonna wait for another channel to cover this.

Care... emulation is king, especially if they keep leaning on less support for physical games media which they seem to be now.

Just another reason for why I won't use it. I'm fine with that, it's extremely gross and predatory of them to do this, but I was never their target audience for this anyway, as I will just always opt for Discord or something else that is miles ahead of whatever Nintendo can offer in terms of communication service.

@Medic_alert They're charging £65 for the base game, including the major overhaul they did AND the Expansion on top of that. That's a helluvah good deal.

This battle between physical and digital will be the thing that defines whether I keep buying consoles or not. If the next Nintendo console is just fully digital, then I will just start pirating and do emulation. I am not spending that much money on something, only to not be able to play it whenever I want and have access to it whenever I want, screw that.

Gonna wait until there is a full physical release.

Ubisoft mostly do "code in a box" so I don't get this at all. That being said, game key cards are a absolute disaster and I definitely will be avoiding them at all cost.

Only thing I feel sorry for them for is the fact that people lost their job, and that's never an easy situation to be in, so for that, they have my empathy, but other than that, meh...

@Medic_alert There's a huge flaw in your logic, if you get your Switch 2 stolen or lose it, then you lose all your games, compared to having a game stolen.

Absolutely not. Will just emulate the rest, this console will probably be the first console that I end up hacking.

Definitely gonna support this studio on the Switch 2. Newman is a complete tool, that's not an argument for not having a fully "physical" edition of a game.

If it isn't gonna be physical then it's a no go for me.

One thing I've been wondering is; what's really the point of the two extra buttons when the joy-cons don't have them. I can't really see games being released using them, but then not be supported in handheld mode because of the lack of two extra buttons.

This is insane, Nintendo need to step up here and find a way to entice these publishers to just go fully physical. This is getting close to be the most embarrassing launch of a console I've seen.

Edit: Let me rephrase it, will it still require Internet to have access to most of the game's functionality. Remember on PC it was so limited if you weren't connected to the servers.

Damn, seems like we're approaching the end of my gaming days now if this doesn't change. This is just insane, and to think Nintendo is pushing for this is just the ultimate betrayal.

"Stay tuned" has no proper meaning here other than "please keep watch because we want your eyes on our products", it could easily be 3 years wait. Unless there's a direct right before Switch 2, I really don't see the point of withholding a mainline Mario game from the official direct that is supposed to kick off all the hype for this next console in their line, so in other words, I highly doubt they have anything ready for this year or following years.

@JaxonH But this is actually newsworthy. It's information for the consumers who are considering this purchase, and the consumers that are considering upgrading to Switch 2. Stop acting like a fanboy, and start acting like a consumer, this is just laughable.

This is such a non issue. There gonna be a select few people that actually wanted this to be optimal. Me personally, I don't care, there are so many things to be critical of Switch 2, and this is just trivial. Only thing I will say is that with the current price, I kind of wish they didn't do this whole Gamechat thing at all inc. the camera.

This is shocking and all, but that aside, is it even legal for them to do this? They are literally marketing and branding (Switch 2 logo on the cover) as a Switch 2 product, when in fact the content inside is actually for a entirely different product. Seems odd to me this would pass as legal, especially in some EU countries like Norway where marketing laws and such are really strict.

I'm a bit worried about this actually. At first I wanted this, but now I realize that there's no vehicle customization (stat based at least) and I don't see any indication that the characters have anything special beside cosmetics, which makes me wonder if this will just be a really stripped down version of previous MK games except that it'll be "bigger".

The console price for me is fine, it's the software price that is laughable. I love that some people even seem to justify it by saying "inflation". But the fact is, we only see a adjustment in price when it is an increase and never a reduction, even when justified. When more and more games went digital, there definitely was a strong argument for a price reduction, but we never saw that, so clearly it's just pure greed and people should put pressure on it. Probably become the best argument for emulation, if this doesn't stop.

I'll take it. But come on, this is basically Bloodborne 2, just call it that unless it would infringe some contract with Sony.
