Re: Drag x Drive Is Nintendo's Switch 2 'Mouse Mode' Showcase, Puts The Rocket League Into Wheelchair Basketball

StefanN

@mandlecreed Dude after all the news of Trump cancelling/banning/blocking/whatever DEI efforts, this was such a breath of fresh air. I love the message this game conveys. it says nothing about wanting to be inclusive. It is just a fun game which puts wheelchair basketball on the same level as any other sport. Nowhere is it questioning how it could be any less of a fun activity. I honestly can't even tell if this was ever about inclusivity or if they really just made the game for the sake of it.

Re: This New Hand-Drawn 3D Platformer Might Be Teasing A Switch 2 Release

StefanN

I don't understand what's the news here. Games are going to release on Switch 2, uhm yeah. I thought this article was going to be about the fact that the game might release on multiple Nintendo consoles in June thus hinting at a release time frame for the Switch 2. But I guess that's not what this article is about?! 😅

Re: Nintendo Switch 2 Doesn't Need To Worry About Steam Deck Sales

StefanN

The comparisons of market availability, games (first party vs no first party) and brand recognition are all valid. Still, I will never understand saying that the Switch and Deck have different target groups/are for different markets. Sure, Nintendo is known for consoles, Valve for associating with PCs, so that's another point for people looking for ease of use vs more in-depth possibilities but they're both handheld systems with the main selling point being that they can be used to play games. The target groups are not identical but very close and the discrepancies where they don't overlap again come down to things like brand recognition, ease of use vs complexity, etc. I would say.

That being said, "The Switch doesn't have to be afraid of the Deck" is just downright true. I really just wanted to point out how I can never get behind this one specific argument of supposed different markets/target groups 😄.

Re: Review: Planet Of Lana (Switch) - A Gentle Puzzle-Platformer With Sparkling Presentation

StefanN

@tseliot From my experience, the price you pay for something like Game Pass at least makes it feel more morally sound to play these games compared to copies from the high seas and while not as strong of an effect as "i spent 60$ on this, i wanna get my money's worth" it still does make me feel more compelled to keep playing a game because i still kind of bought it, haha. One could argue that this is the most unbiased way to experience a game. Because coping with 60$ that one might regret, is quite the burden i'd say. So maybe Game Pass offers a less distorted view on games? Anyway, that's not really an answer to your question anymore, was just interesting to think about

Re: Rumour: New Prince Of Persia Game Reportedly Arriving "Later This Year"

StefanN

No freaking way. To think that my favorite childhood game series is coming together with one of my most beloved types of indie games is insane. Not to mention the fact a roguelike Prince Of Persia in itself is absolutely nuts, haha. I'm having a bit of a hard time believing this, because it sounds like such an unusual move. Reviving an old series, turning it into a roguelike and an AAA developer hiring an indie developer for the job? Like, i would understand if they did a roguelike spin-off of one of their series that has more momentum.

But hey, i can see this being part of like an overall bigger plan with The Lost Crown laying the foundation for recognition and thus later interest in following games. If Prince Of Persia never receives another AAA game but instead gets restricted to more niche experiences...i'm okay with that i think? I mean i don't need another franchise where i have to find towers to reveal areas of a map and do 3950239062 sidequests and have just as many pop ups about microtransactions, so why not? More focused games sound like a good thing, especially for a franchise that is so near and dear to my heart!

Re: Palworld Has A Pokémon Mod, Though Video Takedowns Are Already Being Dished Out

StefanN

@Lxlxrxzx Dude totally! The ideas in Legends Arceus were so great. Pokemon was finally fun again (well, for a while until i noticed that it was too easy again which ruined the whole resource gathering survival-ish aspect of it) - but it still felt like an alpha version. An early access Steam game. Like, you could tell that this was a good game, just released a year too early.

Re: Palworld Has A Pokémon Mod, Though Video Takedowns Are Already Being Dished out

StefanN

Man how i wish that all this competition would make GameFreak actually care about their next Pokemon game. People are craving a good Pokemon game, one that doesn't feel like an insult due to how downright lifeless and devoid of love it is. Current Pokemon games to me feel like "lol you'll buy it anyway you idiot". And it saddens me to see something so important to so many people being treated with such little care. Hell, if people are even modding Palworld to have Pokemon, it just goes to show how the answer to "how to make Pokemon better" is right in front of them.

Re: Prince Of Persia: The Lost Crown Switch Frame Rate, Resolution & Accessibility Revealed

StefanN

As someone who grew up on Prince of Persia, i'm so hyped for this. I loved the original DOS game as a kid, playing it on that old computer at my Kindergarten whenever i got a chance, haha. And Warrior Within was my teenager phase! Yeah they're going a pretty different direction overall and i was skeptical at first but now i'm really excited to try this out! I feel like this style of gameplay could work really well with PoP.

Re: Enchanted Portals Conjures Cuphead-Like 2D Platforming On Switch This September

StefanN

I think if Cuphead didn't exist, people might have been quite excited about this game and its artstyle. But as it stands...yeah it looks like a cheaper version of Cuphead. But as someone else said, a lot of work evidently went into creating this. Cuphead is excellent, it's just insanely hard to reach that level of quality.

Sometimes we get angry a little too fast. Is this a blatant copy? Yeah i guess it is. Is everyone on the team that's working on this a horrible person because of it? Surely not. It is very questionable though, why anyone would attempt this, considering the inspiration is so blatant and the only option basically is guaranteed failure, with Cuphead being absolute perfection (not to me, i didn't like it, but according to reviews and the general hype surrounding it).

Re: Free Update Is Coming To SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake Next Month

StefanN

Calling it "free updates" should not become a trend. Since when have updates ever been paid?
Was it Nintendo that just started the trend by adding missing content in updates and clarifying that the added content won't cost additional money? But if it's just a regular update, just call it an update. If it's a feature update, call it a feature update. If it's DLC, then it needs clarification.

Re: Review: Trine 5: A Clockwork Conspiracy - A Series Best That Proves It Still Has The Magic

StefanN

This is the first game in my life that i'm preordering 😄. Trine 4 was the best Co-Op experience ever with my friend and the Trine series is one of my favorite game series of all time! They're such lovingly crafted feel-good, comforting fairytale games.

And hot take - even Trine 3 was pretty good. It just wasn't as good as the other Trine games but honestly, i still enjoyed it.

I wish Trine 5 as much recognition as i possibly can!

EDIT: "most polished experience" huh? I hope it's not >too< polished. Breaking the physics is half the fun in Trine! 😄

Re: Review: Blasphemous 2 - Bloody, Brutal, And Even More Brilliant Than Its Predecessor

StefanN

Suuuuper hyped to get my hands on this! I was always a little wary of Blasphemous because of the reviews it got - but it seems that it just had a difficult launch. It was perfect when i played it and really one of the best action platformers i've played. It's beautiful, challenging and the metroidvania aspects don't have me ripping my hair out because even backtraveling is fun because of all the currency you collect for meaningful upgrades!

Re: Pokémon Stadium 2 And Pokémon Trading Card Game Available On NSO Today

StefanN

Lol. I loved this game as a kid but it's hilarious how Nintendo is avoiding giving people what they want. Oh you want the original Gameboy games? How about remakes, spin-offs, new games, phone apps, N64 games, the Trading Card Game... but not the actual original Pokemon games? Deal?

I kind of feel like Nintendo might be afraid that the Gameboy games would be cannibalizing sales of the newer iterations.

Re: Sega Cools On Blockchain Games As Executive Calls Them 'Boring'

StefanN

Don't be mistaken though - it's good that Sega went back on this for now but that Executive is not some savior per se. This is still marketing. "A higher up at Sega saying no to Blockchain, wow what a good company after all!" - they know that this is good for their image. It doesn't make any amount of sense to think that the company as a whole decided on NFTs and Blockchain and noone ever asked this guy but now they did and Sega is like "oh nevermind then".
I'm happy about this and maybe there's some genuineness to it but it's still a point I find important.

Re: Soapbox: Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom Straight Up Fails In Just One Respect: Accessibility

StefanN

Yeah, it sucks to see my friend with reduced coordination in his right hand try again and again with games and be disappointed every single time when he's forced to realize, that gaming just doesn't really work for him for the most part. He loves BOTW. He sold his Switch though because it was saddening him that he could never play it properly. He even bought a Switch again now just for TOTK. I'm trying to always keep an eye out for games that might work for him. Strategy games are fine for the most part but he would love to just be able to play Zelda too.

"Oh we're putting the responsibility on the player for button mapping if we give them the option, we wanna get it right ourselves" - yeah why not get it right and then >also< add the option for button remapping. It almost feels like there's a certain pride standing in their way. A feeling of wanting to perfect an experience to a point where that perfection can only be perfect to a certain audience, leaving any deviances from the norm out of the equation.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For LEGO 2K Drive

StefanN

@RainbowGazelle
Couldn't have said it better myself.
I'm playing this game right now and it's pretty cool but I just can't get rid of this "facade"-feeling. Happy little Lego figurines that pretend like they care about me having fun, while all they're after is actually just my money. It goes against what Lego is to me. I mean sure, Lego's business practices have been very questionable for a while already but knowing how badly Microtransactions can influence people and children in particular, it's like creating a drug specifically geared towards children to get them hooked and take their money. I hate it. I absolutely despise how this aspect feels to me and it just does not let me enjoy the game as much as I otherwise would.

Like...man seriously. F you Lego. This makes me extremely sad because it's outright saying "In case anyone was wondering, no we don't actually care about children".

Re: Nintendo's Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom TV Ad Might Be Its Best One Ever

StefanN

Aww come on, seriously? I mean the ad was soooort of sweet if it wasn't absolutely ruined by making the poor guy look like he's never heard of physics before in his life - "hmmm why does that singular round log with a sail attached to it fall over hmmmmmmm", like come on 😅.
It brings across the fact that there are challenges in the game to overcome while at the same time suggesting that they're laughably easy though. I don't know how they thought that that would be a good first impression.

Re: Wowzers! Inspector Gadget - Mad Time Party Go Goes Onto Switch Later This Year

StefanN

Awwww. I feel like they could have done much more interesting things with this show, like a Puzzle Platformer for example. Would fit the detective theme. Just another mini game collection doesn't really get me excited :/.

I recently played Microids Marsupilami game - another game based on a show i used to watch as a kid - except it's incredible. It is everything i could want from a platformer and quickly became one of my favorites. It seriously deserves so much attention.

Re: Blasphemous II Slashes Its Way Onto Switch This Summer

StefanN

@Otoemetry Aah you know, my passive aggressive remark was based on that walk of shame back to every boss that you had to do after losing to them. The Messenger or Blasphemous have checkpoints pretty much right before each boss. Hollow Knight makes you fight a little ways back to them and I found that more and more annoying, the longer I played 😕.

Re: Blasphemous II Slashes Its Way Onto Switch This Summer

StefanN

@Otoemetry Oooooh wow thank you for telling me about this, it looks amazing! Just like Blasphemous indeed 😅. But hey, i'd love if there were more Metroidvanias that actually looked nice and respected your time like Blasphemous, The Messenger, Ori. Not like Axiom Verge or to a big extent Hollow Knight
