Re: Blasphemous II Slashes Its Way Onto Switch This Summer

StefanN

@Otoemetry Aah you know, my passive aggressive remark was based on that walk of shame back to every boss that you had to do after losing to them. The Messenger or Blasphemous have checkpoints pretty much right before each boss. Hollow Knight makes you fight a little ways back to them and I found that more and more annoying, the longer I played 😕.

Re: Blasphemous II Slashes Its Way Onto Switch This Summer

StefanN

@Otoemetry Oooooh wow thank you for telling me about this, it looks amazing! Just like Blasphemous indeed 😅. But hey, i'd love if there were more Metroidvanias that actually looked nice and respected your time like Blasphemous, The Messenger, Ori. Not like Axiom Verge or to a big extent Hollow Knight

Re: Blasphemous II Slashes Its Way Onto Switch This Summer

StefanN

@Otoemetry Was that the update for Blasphemous they announced in of those indie worlds alongside Blasphemous II?

On topic: Can not wait. I loved Blasphemous. One of the few Metroidvanias that are actually fun to backtrack in because the combat is so satisfying.

Re: Rumour: 2K Games Is Looking To Take On Mario Kart With 'LEGO 2K Drive'

StefanN

yesyesyesyeswantwantwantwantneedneedneedneedneed

Omgggg you guys have no idea how much I loved the old Lego games that didn't have some popular brand attached that I don't really care about. I was so excited to hear about the rumors in the first place and now they're solidifying in the form of a new Lego Racers?? 🥺 I'm still replaying that old game, man, it's some of my favorite gaming memories! I can not wait for this, this is great!

Re: Pamper And Photograph Pooches In 'Pupperazzi', Snapping Onto Switch In April

StefanN

This looks lovingly done - but i'm a little worried about the fact that the dogs aren't animated and instead just bouncing around. Sure it's fun and goofy and i like such things, but i'm a little afraid it might make the doggos feel somewhat stiff/lifeless?

(The trailer doesn't even show the dogs moving around all that much so i'm wondering if the developer doesn't find it ideal themselves, but of course that's just pure speculation)

Re: Video: Metroid Prime Remastered - Switch Vs. GameCube Comparison

StefanN

Wow, after Nintendo being kinda lazy with their "remasters" this remaster is almost a straight up remake like the Spyro or Crash games. Sure the difference isn't as big but that surely is just because the discrepancy between current graphics and the source material isn't quite as high as with Spyro and Crash. Kudos to Nintendo (or rather whichever one of their studios worked on this) for actually remastering something. This looks great and I'm super excited to finally try this game for the first time!

Re: Video: We've Played SteamWorld Build - Is It Any Good?

StefanN

@HeadPirate I agree. I personally can't imagine anyone seeing this and going "Aaah the Steamworld universe! My favorite universe that i definitely have a clear picture of!" - i liked Dig 2, but i can't imagine perceiving the franchise as a universe that is characteristic and adds a unique flavor to the games. But that's just me. Other people loooove all their games and of course i can see that making the universe much more memorable to them, than it was to me.

Re: Random: Elden Ring Mod Brings Pokémon Scarlet And Violet To The Lands Between

StefanN

@Zeroo Ah, yeah i might be getting things mixed up there, thanks haha. But difficulty as a non-argument? I don't know...sure you can make it harder for yourself but it's a difference whether i'm just stopping to use helpful items for example, or if those helpful items are just much more rare. I still know they're in the world. By taking an aspect out of the game myself, i just leave the rest as it was designed - that being not being a challenging game. So i suppose it just comes down to the feeling of how something is designed. I don't know, i'm trying to think about your point and why i don't feel that way. I know there's people creating challenges for themselves with restrictions or something - might just be that it doesn't work for how i perceive a game, who knows.

@JohnnyMind Dude totally. While writing my comment i was definitely thinking "Arceus is the closest thing to what i'm describing" - the freeroaming, the sense of adventure is quite strong with that one. I honestly stopped playing though because i never felt like it challenges me. It threw so many survival items at me and then never really required me to use them...or maybe it will later on. I've been trying to get myself to continue playing :/.

Re: Random: Elden Ring Mod Brings Pokémon Scarlet And Violet To The Lands Between

StefanN

Uhmmm...this is the Pokemon game i actually want, just saying

"might indicate what Pokémon games might look like several years down the line. We can dream, right..?"

  • Sorry, but nope, you can't😅. No but seriously, of course this mod is probably jank and all but this gives a hint of what Pokemon could, but probably never will be - with monsters that are actually dangerous, giving the word "taming" its meaning back.

In essence - i just want a Pokemon game that looks good, is grand in its presentation and actually challenging.

Re: Video: A Closer Look At The Aya Neo Air, A Powerful Alternative To The Switch

StefanN

No matter how often you say "It's not a Switch alternative" even though it's a portable device with a controller attached that plays games, it doesn't become any less false. Yes it's 800+ quid which means it's not at all an option for people looking for the best value (that would be Switch/Steam Deck imo), but it IS an alternative. It just really depends on what matters to you, what your budget is, what you want out of a gaming device. But seriously, refraining from comparing these devices even though they both do the same thing basically is when you start hindering innovation. Nintendo needs to see what these people are doing. Competition creates better value for the customer. Don't make the Switch a sort of divine untouchable thing - it isn't and it shouldn't be, for your own sake.

Re: Mini Review: Railbound - A Cute Locomotive Puzzler On The Perfect Platform

StefanN

@Robokku Ah alright. I would have pointed it out as "not a game about creativity but about specific puzzle solving" because without the context you assumed (which i can definitely see), it is a little strange to mention it. And still, i wouldn't put it into cons. Sometimes it's hard to tell if a reviewer deducted points for a con, but it's just natural to assume they did - since it's listed under 'cons' 😅

Re: Mini Review: Railbound - A Cute Locomotive Puzzler On The Perfect Platform

StefanN

"no room for novel solutions" really isn't necessarily a con though, is it? I think it really depends on what type of puzzles you're trying to solve. Coming up with something even more genius and puzzle-breaking in a game like Portal is amazing but in something like Railbound i think it indicates that the puzzles are well thought through and want to present a very specific challenge to you.

Re: Random: YouTuber Recreates Pokémon Scarlet & Violet Cutscenes With Full Voice Acting

StefanN

@Nikhogan Right?? I haven't played the game yet so i was like "wait the mouths move...is that the actual cutscenes and some of them are actually voice acted?" But no - the mouths do move but all of this video is these people's work who voiced it. They've done such a great job and...my god, it really makes me want to play it - but only with the voice acting. Idk, it's just so bland reading the text, i can never really connect to the characters. :/

Re: Ubisoft Is Rebooting A Classic RTS Series On Nintendo Switch In 2023

StefanN

@AndyRogan Huh. Wait so is this the reboot of the series that they f***ed up or is this already a new entry after that one? I heard the reboot was so massively mainstreamed that it just wasn't "The Settlers" anymore. Which is even sadder, considering that they nailed it with Anno 1800.

Even funnier, i think The Settlers and Anno used to be developed by the same people, back in the days when they first came about. So it's kinda sad that these RTS-siblings don't get the same love. Personally i gotta say though, Anno is my jam, i love the games incredibly much and having those on Switch would be insane.

Re: Review: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet - An Open-World Poké Playground Full Of Promise (And Tech Issues)

StefanN

Sooo all the fun "achievement" hunting sort of (yk, catching Pokemon while they're eating fruit or something) are gone again and we're back to just standard slow turn-based gameplay?

I'm always hoping that Pokemon will be fun again and Arceus really was (apart from, again, being really easy most of the time) but this is just going one step backwards in my eyes .

Re: Review: Various Daylife - A Simple Yet Repetitive JRPG Best For Bite-Sized Sessions

StefanN

You know, as a non JRPG guy i'm always looking for one that seems interesting enough to me. Something with real-time combat, maybe BOTW sort of graphics (setting doesn't matter though, medieval for example would be nice!) - but sooo many JRPGs always got this PS2 graphics vibe. I guess it's just popular? If it is, great, but to me it always feels like it's sort of just laziness? And yes i can see that this looks better than PS2 but at the same time...not really.

Re: Nintendo Survey Asks Fans What Pokémon Games & Spin-Offs They Want

StefanN

Lol, that choice for scarlet/violet is so specific already. It's like they're just asking "please tell us you're alright with the way we're doing this 😬" instead of asking if we preferred the mechanics of Arceus. It's still not clear yet (which i think might be on purpose) but if the challenge system from Arceus is gone, the whole reason I finally enjoyed Pokemon again would be gone .

Re: Oh No! Ark's Ultimate Survivor Edition For Switch Has Been Delayed

StefanN

@johnvboy I think the comments section does represent the general sentiment. But hey, maybe it's just a vocal minority.

And i agree with you, if the port is still going to be bad, it's bad. I'm just surprised how little people are willing to give this second attempt a chance despite the development build looking lightyears better already (apart from the framerate lol and i do care about that)

Re: Oh No! Ark's Ultimate Survivor Edition For Switch Has Been Delayed

StefanN

God why is everyone so dismissive about this new Ark port?

No Man's Sky gets fixed - yayy redemption story!!
Ark gets fixed - ah who cares, the first version is bad

Where's all the praise for a developer completely rebuilding their game in a different engine to make it run nicely on Switch? I get that you all are sceptical. And i am too, yeah (the framerate still looks somewhat choppy - it's a dev build though in the video). But they're putting in an effort to make it right and i find it unfair that it's being completely dismissed by so many.

Re: Shovel Knight Dig Launches On Switch In September

StefanN

@Kimyonaakuma Right? I mean i do like The Completionist somewhat but i did always find their humor a little cringeworthy. This though turns it up to 11, my god 😅. Well, glad if they had fun and they're surely hyped to be a part of an official trailer for a Shovel Knight game - and i'm excited for the game itself!

Re: Pixel Art Metroidvania '9 Years Of Shadows' Delayed Until 2023 On Switch

StefanN

@Lyricana Actually, you're making me realize another thing - i pretty much felt the same way as the person i had this conversation with just now, about Battle Royale games. Even up to the point of lamenting their existence because i too thought that we would otherwise be getting more creative games. But nope, Battle Royale is what seems to bring in the people/money thus everybody does it. And i never played Battle Royales except like three for a short period of time 😅. But yeah, i still feel variety is booming and there's so much creative stuff going on right now. And as time goes on, the ideas just get crazier and more outlandish, more people get inspired by all these crazy concepts to make games themselves.

Re: Pixel Art Metroidvania '9 Years Of Shadows' Delayed Until 2023 On Switch

StefanN

@Axelay71 Well i mean, you're not wrong. I do like those genres. While writing my last comment i was thinking that my perceived variety is definitely greater since I'm happy getting all those genres a lot. Well i think you're right now that i thought about it some more. I still think there's incredible variety but I'm not gonna say anymore that there isn't a noticeable tendency towards particular genres.

Oh and open world games is a good example. That's something I can relate to more easily since that bothers me too. I'm playing Neon White on Switch right now and god, i love it. It is level based, completely linear (well unless you're speedrunning levels) and this kind of game just wouldn't be possible without linear design. So yeah.

And yeah i hope you'll get some cool stuff on PSVR2!

Re: Pixel Art Metroidvania '9 Years Of Shadows' Delayed Until 2023 On Switch

StefanN

@Axelay71 Hm, well i see what you mean. I feel completely different about it. Personally i feel there's such an incredible variety of styles of games at any point in time nowadays that it really doesn't matter that a few genres are particularly popular to be made. Welp, hoping for some rail shooters for you my man! 😄

Re: Pixel Art Metroidvania '9 Years Of Shadows' Delayed Until 2023 On Switch

StefanN

@Axelay71 Yeah sometimes i just feel like it's pointless to dismiss games for the genre as much as it's happening here. Because if a game turns out great, everybody's just gonna love it. Simple as that, good games are good. Not saying all this to correct/convince you specifically or something! I just feel like people might be missing out. Personally I don't like most of the Metroidvanias on switch, which is sad because i love a good one 😅.

Rail shooters are underrepresented as hell for sure!
