Okay, help a non-native speaker out here: "tweeness" is artificially attractive/too perfect according to Cambridge Dictionary. How am i meant to understand that in the context of this game? As in "it's trying too hard to be likeable"? "It's too obvious that it's going for a certain appeal"? I'm just curious, would appreciate if someone could help me out a little here!
Wow the screenshots did not at all give off the same vibe as the actual trailer. Gotta say, i'm not big on games that are mostly storytelling but this is pretty interesting. Plus - i was surprised how quickly the impression of this being a wacky stupid game as the screenshots suggested to me made way for something serious and intriguing. And it doesn't even conflict with the graphics somehow.
@Kalmaro "It feels like I don't have enough data to take a real position on this yet." That's exactly how i felt, you put it perfectly. I was somewhat missing the grounds i could base this on to feel like the game was truly hindered by what it presents as the reasons.
@Dant3Sama No, that's false. 1. Going online with any sort of modifications to your console will get the device permabanned. 2. There's regular firmware updates 3. They released a Switch V2 - yes, also for longer battery life but it also fixed the main exploit that was used to hack the console.
@GrailUK Ah okay, so i think i got it right then, with your point being the fact that they profit off of someone's idea basically? As an artist myself i feel like there's always art in creation as well. Depends on the medium somewhat though. A whole game is more work than copying a piece of music. Either way, as you said, if they innovate, that's great, if they're just in it for the money, yeah that's kinda ***** (even though in game development i always like to think there's some higher ups that take the decisions and the people being told to work on it, actually put their passion into it regardless).
Man it's cool to think about this "is it art, is it copying, is it exploitation" thing, just an interesting topic.
@GrailUK Interesting point. I see where you're coming from, saying the idea was already created and it's somebody else just regurgitating it. But yeah, personally i think it's being too harsh. It makes me think of fan mods. Mods that overhaul or lengthen a game by a considerable amount. Isn't this kind of the same? A labour of love? One might argue (i guess that might also be part of your point) that they're using it to make money off of it. But i still think, after using the idea, you still have to nail the gameplay, feel, graphics, sound. And while i don't know how similar this looks or plays compared to the original (never played it), often what starts out as mostly a copy still ends up with a fresh vibe. And i think all the original work does indeed deserve a price tag to play it (if it turns out good and wasn't made with the intention to exploit people's nostalgia). But again, i don't wanna present all this as facts, was just interesting for me to think about your thoughts on this.
Hell yeah! I can see "Dusk" (that oldschool-ish but modern Quake-like shooter) being either given a release date or a shadow drop, since it recently (finally) passed a...thing (i forgot) at Nintendo Of America.
@xmkbest Was looking for this comment haha. And to think somebody on Reddit recently spray painted his in this very specific GBA indigo - he probably would have liked this, but i don't know >how< close it actually is to the GBA's classic color.
While i think the Switch is the perfect time to bring back some beloved series, i do love that Nintendo also always wants to try out new things. Arms was a great example of trying something innovative and it was fun, even if it didn't rise to fame like other IPs.
It really feels like the 2d sprite would make it harder to nail landings. Just...because it's a little disconnected from the world. But maybe that's not the case when actually playing. I'm definitely very interested in this one!
@ZeldaFanboy78 Haha i too thought it looked strange. After i saw your comment i watched that part a couple more times and yeah.... that's definitely a scalpel. Love how the doctor puts the bird back on the table like "yep, good as new" after doing whatever he did there 😅
Yay glad this turned out great! I don't usually like these Point&Click/Story games, but this one looked so charming, that i just couldn't help but get really excited about it!
I don't like Point&Clicks. But i saw this and was instantly intrigued. I don't know, that's really surprising to me, but this game just has such an incredibly cute vibe to it and i'm all about games that are cute and feel-good. I'm convinced i'll love this 😄
New Switch Pro with a larger screen, but not with joy-cons that don't drift, because we wouldn't want to take away the experience the consumers came to love.
@Yanina "Chaos in a good way" sounds great and "ps1 vibes" sounds like it might indeed give me that Monster Truck Madness feeling haha. And yeah i suck at those too, games like Burnout are far more enjoyable to me. A buddy told me he would want to play Forza because it's his favorite arcade racer, but his PC is too weak, so i was like "oooh Arcade you say?" and then i tried it out and the cars felt like actual cars and i was really dissappointed 😅
@Yanina How does it feel? Arcade-y? I've sometimes been thinking, hey i liked Monster Truck Madness as a kid, so maybe i should try a Monstertruck game.
What is everybody on about, this looks AMAZING! And i think i don't primarily like that artstyle because of the artstyle, but maybe because it's a clear indication that this could be a different experience than Sword and Shield. A good one perhaps! And also, idk, maybe it's the nostalgia playing a part as well. I really really like how this looks and it feels more like what i think of when i think "Pokemon". Can't wait for this!
Oooh, has some Ghostrunner vibes, except it's published by Devolver Digital so i have renewed hopes for a good version of that game on Switch 😅. Ghostrunner is probably really fun on PC though, i don't wanna talk trash or anything.
I was thinking just yesterday, at this point Switch shouldn't ever be a stretch goal anymore, but a priority next to Steam. This handheld is the indie machine the Vita could have been.
I've been playing Breath of The Wild for over a year and kind of just don't want it to stop. Just like one of the writers on this page (Kate i think it was) said and i feel the same way. I hope they'll give us BOTW2 soon, so i can finish the first one and get onto not finishing the second one
Why is the concept of "standing by your opinion, but apologizing for the unconstructive manner you expressed it in" so foreign to many here? I see so many saying "oh he's backpedaling/retracting his statement/apologizing for what he said" and he's not. He's just apologizing for how he said it, which i think is necessary and mature.
New games from the makers of The Messenger and Spiritfarer? Yes please! I was just wondering yesterday what the developers of The Messenger might be up to!
Okay wow, if they put in such effort for the music, this makes me feel good about how the actual game is going to turn out. I was already pretty excited for this, but now i'm quite a bit more.
Great article! First soapbox article I actually read all the way through because it sounded a lot like you were gonna describe the same situation that i am in and you did 😅. I just don't want it to end. And also I find it quite amusing to remember Zelda saying things like "Link, hurry!" "There's not much time left!" and then I just go swiping the ground to collect rice for 1 hour.
EDIT - wow there's a lot of unpleasant people in this comments section. Don't let that get you down, I loved this article!
@Ryu_Niiyama Sure, Sims 3 is the better game but i definitely want a proper Sims on Switch and that would probably be 4. Just give me The Sims . Also where is that animation in the profile pic of yours from, it looks cool!
@Ryu_Niiyama @Kirby_Girl Sorry for hijacking the conversation but you talking about the gay community and how you're expected to like certain things because that's what the community likes? I'm just curious is all
Okay so i looked at the screenshots first, thought it looked great. But the trailer...eh. Not what i expected. The visual and audio feedback from getting kills seems to be super unsatisfying. That's what makes Doom (or seeing how you're killing enormous amounts of enemies here i also thought of Risk Of Rain 2) so satisfying and fun. You gotta feel like you're doing damage. Maybe the trailer isn't selling it well, but the bats really just go "pop" and that seems to be it.
