The amount of people here thinking that the devs are unoriginal and/or trying to steal ideas is shocking. Have you never been a fan of something and wanted to create an experience that lets you live in that world a little more? Even a painting of a character falls into that category. Are artists stealing when they draw Samus, Mario or Link? They're trying to create a nice version of the original source material. Same here with this game. Hope the popularity of this remake will lead to good things for them (jobs in the industry and such).
Just saw that @Steel76 already pretty much wrote down what i'm thinking, well said.
EDIT: How about replacing Samus with Sonic? Boom, First Sonic Metroidvania. Sega likes good fan-made games π
@Leuke Islanders is a puzzle game, kind of like city-building reduced to its fundamentals. Buildings get you a certain score that is increased or decreased by their surroundings (both other buildings as well as nature). Townscaper is more of a little creation sandbox. As it says, there's no goal in that game. But it's really pretty and cute and i absolutely wanna play it, haha. So far i've only played Islanders and (@DegenerateStar) god is it addictive.
@Epo I don't know, sorry. I still have yet to try those games myself and i'm curious to do so π . There's an old Spelunky version with (i think) identical gameplay but pixel graphics available for free, you could try that out on PC if you like, see if it's after your taste.
@Epo Are you getting the terms "Roguelite" and Metroidvania mixed up by any chance? Hollow Knight and Ori both are Metroidvanias. Games like Enter The Gungeon, The Binding Of Isaac, Dead Cells, Hades, Spelunky, those are Roguelites/Roguelikes. Just thought I'd mention it to prevent you from possibly being disappointed.
I want this! Oh my god, is it just me or do the characters just look incredibly lovable? Also the violently shaking seagull got me good π.
God, seriously, this looks amazing. I really wonder if the art style is so great to others or if they somehow just hit my taste in particular. I feel already connected to these characters, they look so lovingly crafted! I hope it'll turn out great!
Ooooh excited for this! Talked to the developers once because i loved their game Hamsterdam so much π. They were so appreciate of the positive feedback and told me about this game. Can't wait to see how it will turn out!
I've been positively addicted to this game for the last few days, my god.
EDIT: A few high points for me
The game is incredibly cute. A real feel-good game. There's also so much to discover and so much to work towards that you're always going to be like "oh let me just do this real quick then i'll stop...well if i've done that, i might as well do that while i'm at it". The last game that gave me this feeling was Minecraft. Also i love how much character the slimes have. They're cute and you wanna care about them but if one of them ravages your carrot field you don't feel too sorry for throwing them into the ocean as punishment. π
Looks nice, definitely interested in it! There's been so little games that actually scratched this very specific itch that The Messenger left (apart from Cyber Shadow which came pretty close), so i'm always on the hunt for more 8/16bit action platformers, haha.
Sometimes i'm not sure if so many new games are inspired by the Fortnite aesthetics or if it's just that with Fortnite being this popular, the comparison is inevitable. Either way, i really dislike the Fortnite-ish look that i personally feel - feel free to disagree. Other than that it looks interesting.
WOW. I love that indie developers come up with such a huge variety of art styles but sometimes i felt like "there can't be anything >really< new coming at this point anymore" - but hey here it is. Sure yeah, there are similar looking games, but the presentation, animation sets this one apart to a point where even i am interested, despite not being into the genre much.
People on the artofrally subreddit are pretty angry about the huge visual downgrade. Hopefully they patch this up, the original aesthetic had me quite interested π
Sooo with a Pokemon Presents...a Direct Mini/Partner Showcase is less likely, isn't it? Usually a Pokemon Presents followed the former, if i remember correctly.
@Kirby_Girl I love these kinds of little personal backstories. I still remember trying to take my cousin's Gameboy when she visited and idk what Kirby game she had but it was a Kirby game π. Funnily enough I only remembered this after watching a retrospective of the Kirby series haha
@GrailUK I feel you, hahahaha. I kinda wanna try Alien: Isolation because it looks great, but i don't know if the 10 minutes i'll last are gonna be worth the money.
@Snatcher Agreed. I too like these but it does feel a little like it's saying "ha, I'm so in on the joke, right guys?" π. Were there other kinds of promo you saw for it that made you feel that way? Just curious, it sounded a little like it to me.
Glad Psyonix started to see that they need to do more with the game. Not for me personally, i have 2200 hours in it and will gladly double them even if nothing changed, but so many people have been asking for new and interesting stuff. Themed items and 2v2 tournaments being some of them.
Personally incredibly excited for the Steam Deck. Gimme the Sims, Anno, Planet Coaster, Planet Zoo, Battleblock Theater and full-fledged Cities Skylines that i've been sorely missing on my Switch!
@Mips Wait wtf, you criticize this thing and then you reply to your own comment disagreeing with yourself? πππ It's three replies now, so this isn't you forgetting to switch accounts, hahaha. I like your humor
I definitely wanna play this, it looks great and i personally loved Yoshi's Crafted World.! Glad to hear it turned out a good game! I find they managed to really make the clown cute with its sounds and all but it's still baffling how they did not think of the fact that this would reduce the number of potential buyers π
@enoughisenough I am 100% the brainwashed sucker that wants this.
OMG, i love Huntdown so so so so much! I had no idea there was a special edition and THERE'S AN ACTION FIGURE ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Ori and this are the ones that really got me thinking, but a freaking action figure?! I WANT THIS!!
@SeaFishelle Yeah...and i feel i'm one of those people. BOTW made me like Zelda and i always wanted to try Wind Waker because i love the look of it. I'm definitely interested in trying out Skyward Sword but i don't know if a linear adventure will be to my taste, when the visuals (for me personally) aren't a huge plus.
I wonder if a lot of people that bought a Switch and loved BOTW just thought "Hey, that surely is more of that!" and were dissappointed. I mean i hope not, just wondering.
@Flashlink99 That is so incorrect (apart from the touch controls, but i like them) - the Switch version of Minecraft is riddled with bugs, like deleting your world if the save gets too big for example. They fixed it once when everybody complained about how horrible that version was, then it ran great, then became horrible again and it recently got partially fixed again.
Just to be clear - "Minecraft (Switch Version)" was great. But since you're talking about the one that has full parity in terms of content with the other versions, you're talking about the Bedrock version they later changed to and that's the one with all the issues.
"Cutest Puzzle-Fighter ever" feels so out of place as a description. There's small cute animals sure, but it feels like the marketing team (if there is one) had no idea how to advertise the game at all. I mean look at it, it looks pretty damn solid, doesn't it? Pretty great artstyle and looks like it could be fun. Why not emphasize that it's aesthetically pleasing and has a unique gameplay concept, which would describe the whole game instead of singling out one tiny detail of the game and acting like that's what defines it (assumedly because it would sell the game better). I'm interested in the game but whenever one thing of the whole package is so off, it makes me sceptical about the rest of it.
I absolutely want this. It looks pretty ugly though, i gotta admit π . But finally being able to play Sims, Anno and Planet Coaster on the go? And a smoother version of Rocket League? Oh man, this is a dream come true!
Even though, like some others here, i wasn't the biggest fan of the sound of the singer, i took it as "well it's supposed to be that over-the-top" and i started really enjoying it. The underwater part also killed me, hahaha. Definitely want to play this!
Oh wow. The game was already pretty damn great, but 120 more levels? That's really commendable. All of the levels so far were really unique and incorporated some great ideas!
@RupeeClock Well and today i learned from you that Kohlrabi is a german thing and not something you're gonna get everywhere, haha. But yeah again, Kohlrabi is pretty good haha
Sorry but Cooking Simulator is a great game on PC, not on Switch (unless they heavily patched it). I was really excited for this but mix 1 part choppy framerates with 2 parts non-adjustable controls and no gyro aim and 1 part massively downgraded visuals and you got a whole mess. Selecting a knife that's a couple of pixels wide is a pain when the controls just don't allow for tiny movements. I can see people having fun with it if they have a high frustration threshold. Again, great game, just not a good port, unless it has been patched up.

Re: Video: New Tails Of Iron Trailer Shows Off The RPG's "Punishingly Brutal" Combat
I love the art style! Although it's a little strange how stern the presentation is despite the characters being more cute. I mean...it still works, but it almost doesn't. Maybe i'm missing an acknowledgement that they're mice? Maybe that's even the point, weak little mice and evil toads (which have the clichΓ© of being somewhat nasty) but then it's not being incorporated into the presentation and story. Anyway, that's just a minor point in an overall really interesting looking package, definitely wanna play this!
EDIT: rats, not mice. Still cute π
