Ugh they really want me to double dip don't they. I just can't imagine playing it without my 200+ mods. Frickin tempting though, even just to experience what the little machine is capable of.
This website is famous for fanboy cope in the comments (not the actual journalists, to be clear) but this is ridiculous even by your standards. I can't believe none of you dare ask for better from this shameful company. Arceus had nowhere near this level of marketing push and to still see this at 40% less on launch followed by what I imagine will be a steep decline as everyone who isn't in the day1 club will resemble the common internet energy currently looming over this sad excuse for a game is a beautiful thing to see. I'm glad you like the new battling mechanic they stole from an indie dev after shutting their game down with a cease and desist but somewhere deep down your souls have to know you're being fed slop and that this harsh lesson can only be a good thing for everyone including you.
@graviton Well the tv show kinda has to have it. For the games they're looking at every penny they don't have to spend very carefully. They never spent a dime on VA for the mainline games before and never had an issue with sales so I don't see them being charitable to the fans who simply kinda want it but will still buy it without it anyways.
@topsekret Oh my. I had to switch to German for BotW and TotK even though I don't speak a lick of it, it was the only language where I could stomach their voices.
I'm actually not sure I experienced any performance issues in Arceus. I replayed it recently and found myself constantly remarking how much more well put together it was than ScarVi.
@ElRoberico you borderline have a sensitivity issue if you think I'm shaming the disabled. there are obviously dozens of disabilities that make gaming harder for people and jumping down a developers throat for not catering to every single one is wild, nobody is going to invest in a team of voice actors for thousands of lines of dialog just to help the hard of reading when there are free apps on your phone that read text out loud. Any 6 year old can work their way through a Pokemon game without asking their parents too many questions anyways. If we want to yell at them about accessibility let's start with the price.
@ElRoberico if anything is going to motivate a kid that struggles to read it's going to be them feeling left out because all the other kids are obsessed with something that requires reading. Accessibility doesn't mean coddling, the highest earning franchise in the world obviously isn't struggling in the accessibility department. Motivate the illiterate.
Well, you've read their dialog, you've seen their graphics and their "coding". Do you trust them to get voice actors that won't make your ears cringe blood? I feel like it would just end up being two or three old underpaid Indian men that barely speak English getting one chance to nail each line for every character. Or Ai, but like mid-90's "Ai" from those crappy computer toys that read out each letter as your kid types them. It's up to y'all though, I'm officially done with the series.
@ShadLink "the areas are really detailed" do you mind expanding what you mean by that? I've not seen many details that aren't low resolution jpegs painted on the side of a cube.
Is anyone else embarrassed to be playing this after a few hours? These side missions are just so cringe, and what even is the story? Are the loan shark really the good guys? Wtf?
They need to create a single-player story mode with a little hub world, gym leaders, rewards etc. kinda like the GBC game. I enjoy the game well enough for what it is but there's not much there to keep me going much longer. Some type of campaign would be huge. The monthly missions are easy to beat in about an hour and the rewards are kinda crummy.
The fact that even Smash Bros has 3D assets for the buildings in the Lumios stage when you pause and zoom in is hilarious. There's 0% chance we ended up with stickers due to performance, but since it's one of the main reasons I'm not buying this game I'd be very interested to hear what valid reason they went with. I could care less about this happening to GameFreak of all companies, they're so cheap and predatory, nothing about this slop is worth $100.
I loved Daima, in fact I personally like Super and DB more than a lot of Z after rewatching it all back to back last year as an adult - the atmosphere, comedy and lighthearted nature is more my vibe and the voice acting is more consistent. Any more characters from those eras for this awesome game would get me sucked right back in.
@PharoneTheGnome Could also be that reviewers actually played it for more than a couple hours? You're reviewing something you got YESTERDAY darling, who do you think is going to take you seriously? There are many entire worlds where smashing stuff is hardly the point, where clever platforming and beautiful music shine bright for hours. At LEAST get to the Egg Shell Hotel Annex level before feeling like you've seen enough to judge it. Or don't. Whatever. Coming from a guy with DKC tattoos (yes multiple).
And don't say you're not my darling. You are and will forever be my darling 😘
You can steal the corpse but you can't steal the soul, none of these blatant AC rip-offs will ever live up to what they're trying so desperately to emulate. Nintendo, however, can apparently sue for your soul.
@LazyDaisy It's still the cheaper option for people to get their kids the new Mario and Pokemon this Christmas, and it's still selling a consistent million every quarter. It would have to really drop off to not take #1 in 3 years at that rate, and the real ones know it already outsold the official PS numbers, no matter what the ex president said in an interview.
Loved the first two games. Hated the demo besides the atmosphere. So often there were no clues or indication about what to do or where to go, which can be done right mind you when trying to be intentionally mysterious or something, but here it's instances more like "oh, you just have to crouch and walk into this wall because there's actually a hole here you just can't see" after spending 20 minutes hopping and shooting your arrows all over the place feeling like an idiot. It's just bad design, with way too many missed jumps to your death due to terrible depth perception - no shadows under your feet etc - and sluggish controls. Maybe it's better on other systems. I'll be waiting for ReAnima.
No HDR, no 10-bit to eliminate banding, no new models, the textures are just upscaled or swapped with less artistic versions, light banding issues on almost every planet in MG2, no mouse mode for 1p or right stick to replace the awkward Pro Controller motion for those who would prefer it, honestly how low is your bar if you consider this a lot of effort? Upscaling to 4K doesn't require any work at all, the lazy texture swaps and a few new pages in the dumb book are all you are really spending $70 on if you already own these elsewhere.
@michellelynn0976 It literally (and I don't use that word lightly) looks like the city level in Sonic Adventure 2 for the Gamecube with far less polygons, colors and building variety. There is no soul to the environment at all, it's a rushed grey cardboard city. What about it actually looks good to you? The copy/paste window, patio and plant stickers adorning every structure? Did you know if you pause the Lumios stage in Smash Bros and zoom in that they actually took the time to make 3D patios? To some people that's embarrassing. You don't have to agree but to defend it so adamantly is a little strange, it was obviously lazy.
No HDR is such a shame. I know it's a bit of work but it would help justify the price, as it stands the far superior texture packs for Dolphin and ability to use a sensor bar on PC makes this one a no go for me.
I think it's probably nice for a girlfriend who likes to watch you play and wants to feel involved, or a certain type of kid who doesn't have ADHD and is easily entertained, but I don't see it being more than a one time experiment.
Wow this sucks. He's been such a delight to have in the videos. Things definitely won't feel the same. I hope someone will share any of his future YouTube endeavors here.
She seems pretty cool, I like her smile and that she's been with the company for so long. I'm not entirely sure what all that role entails but I know Reggie's era felt a lot more fun than Bowser's simply because Reggie was Reggie so here's hoping it's a positive change for the company.
Bonus points if she can put the boot down on Japan's office with ideas like including Wii Sports for free with the Wii, etc. Bonus bonus points if she talks them into bringing themes and music to the Switch homescreen.
Bonus bonus bonus points if she can get all of the game announcement trailers to stop talking to me like I'm 5.
@theberrage You're rewarded with being better at the game from overcoming the challenge, perfecting the 25 second runback, learning that hitting your cocoon later in the battle to restore your silk instead of at the beginning is a better strategy, and also just the satisfaction of knowing that you beat a tricky boss. No it's not Zelda where every boss and mini-boss just happens to possess a valuable object that you rob off of their corpse but it's actually fine.
150 times is abnormal, I'm not sure if you're exaggerating but something was definitely amiss there. Maybe you didn't equip a crest that really vibed with your playstyle? Did you try Wanderer? Or did you try equipping the pollup pouch? She was tricky but extremely fun, certainly not "just to be difficult", don't be ashamed to watch someone on YouTube beat her to see if maybe you've been doing something wrong. Tons of people have gotten her, arguably hundreds of thousands by now if not over a million including my girlfriend who has only ever played Smash Bros Ultimate and Hollow Knight as her other 2 challenging video games since she got into gaming a few years ago, I believe in you.
@larryisaman The devs have no interest, passion, or time to dedicate towards an entire balancing act that caters to a group of people that don't care enough about the game to rise up to the challenge. Plus you could easily and accurately argue that the games are so popular in the first place because they demand the same performance from everyone, not just those that choose it. If it were optional it would be forgettable, plus how would one even go about making the platforming easier? Just teleporting the player to every place they need to be before letting them whack at a spiritless boss like a pinata? The soul would be gone immediately, the challenge IS the game. I understand it looks and sounds pretty so a lot of people who don't typically love this much of a challenge will feel left out but there's YouTube playthroughs for them, or, just not being afraid of dying a lot until they get better and realize they haven't felt a game quite this rewarding of their efforts before (not saying there aren't others, but this would be their first, thanks in large part to how cute it is)
@BrokenCiv Especially in a game that's seemed blatantly incomplete in the many many months they've been showing it off. Just ugly and empty, and $100 + a subscription fee to experience it all. It's really pathetic.
