Re: Tears Of The Kingdom, Mario Wonder & Dave The Diver Compete For Top Prize At BAFTAs

SpaceboyScreams

idk they're still doing Zelda dirty by not having real temples. The sky islands, undergound and caves weren't enough to rejuvenate the sense of exploration for very long after BotW and there wasn't enough to do with your inventions besides waste time messing around. The race tracks should have been way cooler, there should have been more shrine-like puzzles in the overworld, etc. Not to sound too picky, I just had so many little issues that in the end greatly diminished my overall opinion of the game as far a piece of the Zelda canon goes. It was just a fun time waster for me.

Re: Random: New Pokémon Ad Positions 3DS As 'Retro', And The Internet Disagrees

SpaceboyScreams

Retro doesn't mean an item that came before a newer item, it always denotes a quality that makes said item feel like it's from a nostalgic point in history. The most nostalgic/recognizable deference between 2011 and today is that it was pre-Covid and kids hadn't tasted Tide Pods or spun a fidget spinner yet. If you were to shoot a show set in 2011 nobody would really be dressed any different or speak much different (modern slang notwithstanding), you'd just have to make sure there aren't any vapes on set.

As someone who plays their 3DS way more often than their Switch I really don't feel that way about the system most of the time. When it was "modern" it was side by side with the WiiU. The only thing more modern about the Switch next to the WiiU is that it's portable and has recent titles (and is actually successful). It was hardly a graphical leap, and the motion controls on the Switch are worse, so it's not like it has the symptoms of a typical generational leap, meaning aside from the lack of new releases and the soon-to-be cancelled online service the 3DS is still the same supplemental pocketable experience to its home console counterpart that never got replaced and may never be replaced.

Basically, we're retro when I say we're retro.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo's Switch Emulator Fallout Is Shocking Only Because It Took This Long

SpaceboyScreams

Anyone who thinks the emulator is actually dead after this doesn't understand why it was open source from the beginning and how many passionate people will be picking up the project right where it left off. It may have a different name and be updated on a different website but all that's happened from this is that awareness has spiked and it will be more popular than ever.

Re: Best Nintendo Switch DLC & Expansions

SpaceboyScreams

The MK8 DLC cheapened the overall experience for me. It was perfect before, now it has a bunch of lazy ugly levels just sitting there waiting to never be played. It's like if my girlfriend let me start sleeping with her twin, but her twin is fat and never showers. Thanks but no thanks.

Re: Sakurai Acknowledges End Of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Development

SpaceboyScreams

@Coolmusic Yeah I'm certainly not going to try to predict what happens, it's just what makes the most sense to me personally but Nintendo likes to throw curve balls so I'm not holding my breath either. I think Ultimate is almost perfect and it made sooo much money that I doubt they're batting an eye at the idea of having to relicense 3rd party characters especially knowing how those other companies practically beg Nintendo to let their characters be in the games. I don't want a watered down roster, I LOVE this insane celebration of gaming crammed into one game. If they do a stripped back refresh I'm not sure I'll feel like leaving Ultimate behind, I'll end up like Melee fans clinging onto the past.

Re: Sakurai Acknowledges End Of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Development

SpaceboyScreams

@Coolmusic A Mario Kart Deluxe had never been done before. Everything you're saying about Ultimate applies to MK8. The biggest reason is: sales. Ultimate sold like 35 million copies. A completely new game would take 5 years, a remix with 4K HDR RTX, better online, less input lag, more characters, etc. would do insanely well with minimal effort required.

Re: Sakurai Acknowledges End Of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Development

SpaceboyScreams

@Coolmusic Mario Kart 8 Deluxe did very well for itself.
It makes less sense to release a collection when it's pretty well agreed upon that the newest is usually the greatest with the exception of Melee. Nobody wants to play Brawl or 4 anymore and Nintendo will never re-release Melee. 64 is fun for about an hour until the nostalgia wears off and you realize the mechanics are ass. A Smash Deluxe makes way too much sense.

Re: Soapbox: I Hated Metroid: Zero Mission At First, Until I Loved It

SpaceboyScreams

I think I got into Metroid too late in life. I've played most of them, currently playing Samus Returns actually, and I think they're fine, but they feel so archaic compared to modern Metroidvanias with many many moments of frustrating design. They are much less tedious once you've gotten several upgrades, but even the upgrade system feels very random and unceremonious. You rarely get them from beating a boss, instead finding them in a random empty room when the game decides it's convenient. I'm sick of the tiny sweet spot on bosses where it feels more like luck when your missiles hit than any actual skill. It's really tiring having to morph bomb several blocks in a row just to move a few feet, but oh you fell through the floor and oh, the blocks are back, so you have to spend 5 more seconds blowing them up again, and oh now the enemies are back, blah blah blah. I'm never sad I spent my time beating them but I can never find it in me to praise them either. I hope they make Prime 4 feel like a real evolution into modern times, I thought Dread felt like much of the same and overall very sterile and not particularly memorable besides the fluid controls and the ending.

Hollow Knight has my heart where Metroidvanias are concerned, it's going to be hard to top that one.

Re: Video: Digital Foundry Talks 8-Inch 'Switch 2' Screen, Joy-Con Compatibility

SpaceboyScreams

I predict Nintendo will take a little adventure into VR and having more advanced joycons would be a necessity for that unless they want everyone to buy a separate expensive set of VR controllers. I hate the joycons because as versatile as they are on paper, every different method of holding/using them sucks, especially on their side. If they're not afraid of going big with an 8 inch screen then I don't think they're afraid of a bulkier, more comfortable, more practical and advanced form of the joycon.

Re: Pokémon Scarlet And Violet Version 3.0.1 Is Now Live, Here Are The Full Patch Notes

SpaceboyScreams

@DreamlandGem Respectfully I feel like you're just throwing words around. My intention wasn't to "bait", it's an honest feeling that just happened to be potentially upsetting to some people I guess (I haven't read the comments) even though what I currently chose to play in my free time shouldn't upset a soul considering it's legal and non-violent. What does "unconstructive" even mean? 99% of comments are unconstructive, will you allow me to post the comment again if I somehow include a remark that makes it more "constructive" to the author or developers or you or whoever you feel needs that? To think I'm responsible for derailing anything for playfully mirroring a very common public sentiment at the moment is absurd, it's in the air with or without me here.

Re: Round Table: Let's Talk About Palworld - Comparisons, Controversy, 'Copying'

SpaceboyScreams

Actually can we just talk about how fun it is instead? I know it's not on Switch but here's hoping it comes to Super Switch soon after that launches!

@UltimateOtaku91 Game Freak gets big props when they release good content that took actual effort to make, see Legends Arceus in many online top 5 Greatest Pokemon lists/polls. It's only when they insult the consumer that they get some well deserved backlash.

Re: Nintendo Switch Menu Mockups Found On Prototype Console

SpaceboyScreams

Sometimes I forget how sad a Switch without Homebrew looks. I have full sized box art for each game, a beautiful background for the menu and a different one for each sub menu and really nice looking UI buttons/placement. I'm a big nerd for aesthetics, I hope they bring back the old charm for the Super Switch (even though I'll mod that too anyways).

Re: Soapbox: Game Freak Could Actually Learn A Thing Or Two From Palworld

SpaceboyScreams

I agree this game has no right being so good, I thought it was a shameless clone but how can any clone be 50x better than the most recent outing from the richest media company in the world? Game Freak needs to stick to the Arceus formula, it wasn't perfect but it's my favorite Pokemon game to date and if they dump all their resources into it instead of splitting attention between it and Gen 10 then it could really become something special.

Re: Best Super Smash Bros. Games Of All Time

SpaceboyScreams

@-wc- if by "balanced" you mean half the roster is viable then sure technically. 13 isn't bad for a fighting game, but half isn't amazing, there are wayyyy more viable options in Ultimate.

"Tightest", yes, correct.

Most essential roster, wtf? Do you know how many amazing characters it's missing? No Mega Man, Sonic, Banjo, Cloud, Sora etc etc even if some are low tier it's still amazing that we have them at all and they're all fun to play.

Level selection, no. One option for flat, Final Destination, means by default it's got way fewer competitive options off the bat. We are missing Pokefloats though, I'll give you that.

Items, uh, sure? I thought we were speaking about the competitive nature. If you just have more fun playing party mode in Melee I won't argue that with anyone.

Re: Sakurai Breaks Down How To Make Game Customisation Fun

SpaceboyScreams

Not exactly related but I have about 500 custom skin mods in Smash Ultimate and have even made a few mods myself including giving K. Rool his classic SNES sounds when he's hit, it's too bad Sakurai can't talk about that community because it really extends the life of the game and shows the love and passion creative people have for the series.

Re: 3DS Emulator Citra Is Coming To Meta Quest Next Week

SpaceboyScreams

@jco83 So don't steal. Rip your own copies that you purchased. lol. Do you think anyone who shops at a store is doing something morally wrong because the possibility of slipping a bag of M&Ms in their pocket exists? Or are you just mad that they can buy the bag legally then go home and put the candy in a magical duplicating machine and eat as many as they want, hurting nobody (except their waistline)?

Re: Review: Pocket Auto Catch Light - Petit Pokémon GO Companion Packs A Punch

SpaceboyScreams

So many people missing the point here, I'm assuming people that haven't played the game. This doesn't keep you from playing, it amplifies your experience when you do play and keeps you from having to stay on your phone 24/7 because you feel like you're always missing out on a good catch around every corner. Now when you do feel like playing, which will still be very often because it's a legitimately fun game, you'll have several new critters to go through, check their stats, hope for a shiny, etc. and then you can level them up, battle, do raids, blah blah blah aka the meat and potatoes of the game.
Is it worth it to me? Nah, I don't mind tossing hundreds of balls a day because I'm unemployed and have terrible ADHD so it's quite soothing for me as a distraction. Plus the price seems a bit much. But the appeal is undeniable.

Re: The Pokémon Company Donates 50 Million Yen To Aid Japan's Earthquake Victims

SpaceboyScreams

Obviously every little bit helps and they didn't have to give anything at all, plus there are so many different things to donate to, but I did the math and for a company that makes 4 billion dollars a year this amount comes out to about 1/6th of what they earn in one business hour or $100k less than what they earn in a single hour if you assume 24/7 income. So it's the equivalent of me donating $2.20. I donate an average of $300 a year to various charities. That's an equivalent of them donating $47,740,000 or 7,000,000,000 yen. Nintendo owns 32% so we're not sure what the exact net income is for the Pokemon Company, I just thought it was interesting math.

Re: Nintendo Hacker Gary Bowser Says He's "Not Involved" With New Switch Flash Cart

SpaceboyScreams

@tseliot The punishment against him doesn't match the crime. They can never prove how much money he's responsible for losing them because if everyone wants a modded Switch they're not going to have any difficulty with or without his chip. He didn't personally profit the amount they sued him for, nowhere close; he'll never make enough cash in his life to pay them so every paycheck from now until the end of his life will be severely reduced. That's a lifetime of reduced well-being for one stupid thing that had no real impact on an indescribably wealthy company.

Re: Soapbox: Cassette Beasts Is The Monster-Catching RPG For A Disillusioned Pokémon Fan

SpaceboyScreams

@BrazillianCara Dialog not written for 6 year olds, landscapes and towns that are built and designed with competence, battles that require strategy, and yeah the sneaking/catching/battle mechanics in Arceus were actually perfect. Some people can't see how it could ever be improved until GameFreak actually wakes up and improved it but the rest of us with imaginations can't tolerate the slop they're feeding us.

Re: Round Up: The Reviews Are In For Pokémon Scarlet & Violet: The Indigo Disk DLC

SpaceboyScreams

@johnvboy TotK is still selling the same pace that BotW was at around the same time so the comparison doesn't work. ScarVi fell off HARD and will never make up 3 million copies, heck even the DLC couldn't move the needle. Tell investors that it isn't an exact science lol this was Game Freak's first huge open world title and they butchered it, you're the only one shrugging it off.
