Re: Pokémon Emerald ROM Hack Contains Redrawn Sprites From 130 Artists

SpaceboyScreams

@jetsetradion romhacks don't make money and you often have to patch them over the original game file yourself so it's not like procuring the romhack aids you in any way in getting an illegal copy of the game, you can patch your own legit copy. Modding communities are some of the most passionate gamers in the world that consistently make amazing content that reinvigorates people's love of old games and Nintendo at worst will just send a takedown request if they find you're profitting off of their assets or something but that's pretty rare. This isn't like AMSR or similar examples where people completely remade a popular Nintendo game from scratch using many patented assets and potentially stole thunder from Nintendo's own upcoming remake, and even then it was just taken down because that's all Nintendo can do, it's not illegal until you ignore the request. This is all in good fun, celebrating the creative side of the community, and shouldn't be waved away by people who take things too seriously "just because". Nintendo has a very frightening legal team and like a trillion dollars, they don't need you to protect them.

@Aiwen Key word for MM being "proportionately", and we all know about TLOU2's controversies so let's not pretend that's not an outlier. Nobody even talks about TotK anymore, BotW content was popping off even a year after release all over social media meanwhile TotK didn't get GOTY over a tabletop rpg. It's a fun but tired sequel, reusing the same map was a bad mistake and releasing it on old hardware didn't help either. You can wave these things away but it clearly underwhelmed, or a bigger percentage of the people who bought the last game would have bought this one. I personally like it fine, I'm not trying to drag it, but it felt too safe.

I'm so stoked. New real temples for the first time in, what, 11 years since Link Between Worlds? And such a strong focus on puzzle solving even between temples it seems. This should scratch the itch that TotK failed to do in a couple ways for me. And it's friggin C U T E

P.S. please let there be a way for us to echo peoples' furniture to decorate our own house with.

@Bigmanfan That might be some of it but 10 million is such a huge gap. I can't think of another series where that happens to a major sequel unless it really poops the bed. Many Pokemon fans are casuals but those games sell a consistent number. If a Pokemon game sold a whopping 10 million less than the last mainline entry they might actually start listening to the fans, but that ain't gonna happen.

SpaceboyScreams

@Ralizah Wow that's some mega cope for explaining a 10 million difference in sales. What's another series where every direct sequel sells 30% less than its predecessor? lol

When people are new to the Switch they'e probably looking to buy the recent hot ticket item. I doubt many people are buying a Switch this late in its lifespan just for the 7 year old classics.

This just confirms that TotK is likely seen by the general audience as somewhat of an insubstantial DLC compared to BotW. That's a huge gap in sales that will never close, the time between titles is no excuse since BotW continues to outsell it. If a CoD or any other major franchise sold 10 million fewer copies than the prior release there would be a lot of meetings going on to figure out why. I wonder what they're thinking their approach will be for the next game now. 20 million is no slouch but 30+ is insane and with a 6+ year gap between them I doubt they wanted it to only feel like DLC to people, you know they wanted to catch lightning in a bottle again.

Re: Review: The New Denpa Men (Switch) - A Simple, Goofy RPG With The Usual F2P Irritations

@HeadPirate You talk too much. The point is obvious: people are protesting a modern industry practice they believe is destroying the hobby they love by doing the only thing they can: not playing it and hoping the company sees their protest and changes course. It's the same exact thing you're doing by protesting their comments, and equally futile, although I'm not sure what good you actually see coming from your efforts whereas at least their time spent is admirable. I'm sorry you see everything as pointless but the odds of anything existing at all are pretty tiny, take the W and go try to enjoy some fresh air.

Re: Talking Point: Could Ganondorf Ever Be The Star Of A Zelda Game?

SpaceboyScreams

Not an interesting or cool idea at all. There's nothing interesting about him besides the fact that he's a cartooshly bad guy that sometimes turns into a demon pig. His entire purpose is to be defeated. You'd have to change too much to make him an appealing protagonist, at which point you'd have been better off just making a new character. He's one of my mains in Smash, that's good enough for me.

Re: Switch Lite OLED Modder Showcases The Stunning Dinky Screen In Motion

SpaceboyScreams

It would be really cool if they found a way to fit a bigger screen over the bezels. We've still yet to see the late stage final evolution of the Switch ala Game Boy Color, Game Boy Micro, DSi and New 3DS. I imagine it will be something like a Switch Lite with a smaller bezel, OLED screen, TV out, and something software related that makes it stand out (all past gen 'final stages' besides the Micro had this). I passed on the OLED because I felt burned by the 3DS XL when the New XL came out so I hope that something is coming and that it's good, although if the Super Switch is backwards compatible then I won't care too much.

SpaceboyScreams

@larryisaman we've seen enough to know how it will control. Whatever else we'll see will be its gimmick. This was what they decided to show us after 7 years, this was their chance to wow millions of people. I'm glad you're wowed but I highly doubt it will be enough to hook the masses. I'm excited for it as a fan but I'm disappointed that it seems we might have to wait a while for Prime 5 because they played it "safe" yet again.

Re: Soapbox: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Won't Be The Franchise's 'BOTW Moment', And That's Okay

SpaceboyScreams

@larryisaman Yeah you and the other checks notes less than 2 million people that buy Metroid games on average (two have broken 2 million, none have broken 3 million except Dread and only barely). Fans probably want the series to get more frequent love from Nintendo which would require sales in the 10s of millions like their other big hitters which isn't remotely possible with checks trailer more of the exact same.

Re: Soapbox: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Won't Be The Franchise's 'BOTW Moment', And That's Okay

SpaceboyScreams

I didn't need it to revolutionize anything but they could have at least brought it up to modern standards a bit in terms of movement. The walking and shooting still looks as slow and floaty as the already sluggish feeling original trilogy. There's still little to no enemy knockback or reaction when they're shot. Again I don't need modern ragdoll physics or something like Dead Space but an enemy simply flashing or acting dizzy when they're hit by an energy blast as the only means of knowing you hit your mark is so unrewarding. It's not necessarily how it looked visually that disappointed me it's just that I wasn't itching to be the one controlling Samus from the footage even though I know I'll enjoy the exploration aspect as usual. The series has never sold very well and this was their chance to change that but I don't think they have. I'm worried kids used to modern shooters won't see anything to jump over to and it will take Nintendo another 20 years to try again.

Re: Feature: 20 Great Gaming Accounts You Should Follow On Bluesky

SpaceboyScreams

@Eel The blatantly obvious recent trend of of every tech/blog site trying to get people to think Twitter is failing, in a push to make Twitter fail, only came about after big bad Elon's purchase and 90% of the time they try to blame it on his "incompetence" even if this blog only said "in case X dies someday". It's just funny to me is all, the power these people think they have to sway public opinion against people they hate, like JK Rowling and the like.

Re: Discord Reportedly Removing Servers And Creator Accounts For Switch Emulators

SpaceboyScreams

Thinking Nintendo can ever actually hope to stop piracy is adorably naive.

@RupeeClock Yuzu will live on and thrive, even if it changes its name a dozen times and even if it's only ever uploaded to torrent trackers. All that work that was already done is easily accessible and nobody can make it disappear even if places like Discord or Github won't personally allow it. Telegram groups alone will keep it alive.

Re: As Switch Approaches The PS2's Lifetime Sales, Sony Moves The Goalposts

SpaceboyScreams

lol at everyone pretending they don't know why people care about sales numbers. You all play games, you have a competitive nature in you, you totally get it. If you're a Nintendo fanboy you want Nintendo to be able to say they have the best selling console of all time, just like I want my favorite athletes to have the most trophies, because winning kicks ass.

Re: Nintendo Of America Restructuring Testing Department, Over 100 Contractor Jobs Reportedly Eliminated

SpaceboyScreams

@BTB20 It's a long list, top item being the culture we're all sick of hearing about in other companies by now; my girlfriend and I quit when nothing was done about something that was happening to her, blatantly, on full display for weeks, and we weren't even the first people to report it. The sanitation was horrific, there were weird stains and very bad smells everywhere from the carpet to the chairs as if a janitor hadn't been in the area for years. The 3DS units we had to work with were disgusting and falling apart and the keyboards were even worse. It was such a sad little office and they put up mangled old posters of Mario characters that were probably an attempt to make you feel cool about working there but ultimately just made the atmosphere more of a joke, I sat next to two crumpled halves of a Toad poster put together crudely with a crooked strip of tape. Management would play their political podcasts on high volume while everyone worked and if you asked them to turn it down they had all sorts of idiotic responses like "work your way up to management and you can play whatever you'd like" or "you should be paying attention to this". They shut and locked the doors the second the clock hit 8am and anyone who was literally even a second late for any reason missed the whole day and got a strike, three of which would get you fired, and other penalties included "referencing other games or series that you're not working on" even if you said something like "nice Zelda shirt" to someone in the break room which would result in getting called into a meeting with a manager and having a 15 minute conversation about how you're putting their security in jeapordy.
It was cool during lunch walking over to the main Nintendo building's cafeteria next door but the contrast in quality made going back to your cubicle all the more sad. The nicer building had big statues, happy employees, clean everything. It was like we didn't belong there.
I could go on.

Re: Talking Point: Should 'Third' Pokémon Games Make A Comeback?

SpaceboyScreams

USUM were an insult. The Sw/Sh DLC was abhorrent. The SarVi base game was the worst game I've ever played in my life, I'd rather cut off my thumbs than purchase the DLC that fixed nothing. This is not the discussion we should be having right now, we should be talking about how we can rescue the beloved series from incompetent developers hellbent on destroying all of the good will they built for 20 years. I say give the keys to the Legends team, quadruple their budget and double their development time. Nintendo should let them borrow some of the devs from Splatoon/Animal Crossing for the graphics and animations.
